inland 76 at noon to 85 at 4:00. back down to a nice 79 by 7:00. heat is on the way. i will talk about it coming up. >> now breaking news from the abc 7 live still tracking breaking news in oakland. an early morning fire at a home. there were people trapped inside at one point. i do want to get our first look at the scene throughout and check in with abc 7 news reporter katie utehs. katie, i can see the home behind you it looks destroyed. >> reporter: it is, jessica. i spoke with a woman who first saw this fire who lives in this home. she said she spotted it outside of the home and quickly went to alert her partner and her neighbors. you can see firefighters overhauling this now destroyed home. she says that the -- they had a party in the neighborhood last night but at this point firefighters are not sure what the cause of the fire is. now one woman was taken to the hospital with burns to her face and smoke inhalation. that's a 21-year-old woman. but the rest of the residents

got out unscathed. the fire started around 4:30 at the home on hayes street near seminary avenue. now resident told me again there was a neighborhood block party to celebrate the fourth of july but at this point firefighters do not know if firefighters were the cause. they a on scene investigating. now battalion chief described the victims' injuries for us. >> one 21-year-old female transported to highland with some superficial burns to her face and inhalation issues as well. >> reporter: now back out live, firefighters are trying to pull what they can out of this home to give to the victims. we have found them -- finding shoes and some clothing that was saved for the victims, displaced, red cross has been called for the six people. firefighters had a busy night in oakland and at the same time responding to this fire another fire a few blocks away. so fourth of july always a busy holiday for them. they will be on scene for some time. hayes street is blocked. at this point seminary avenue is

237. firefighters called for a tier 1 response for the wildfire. looked like it burned about an acre before firefighters put it out. look at the fireworks going off behind the fire, explosion after explosion. then what appears to be a police helicopter with a spotlight shining down. i looked at all the calls to the san jose fire department that came in after 9:30 last night. 28 different calls reporting fires between then and now. what a wild and busy night for firefighters. no word on what caused the fire by 237 but a lot of fireworks shot off in the area. live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thank you so much. san bruno police arrested more than two dozen people. >> officers arrested 25 for illegal fireworks and seized 300 pounds of illegal fireworks. the department says in total responded to more than 170 fireworks related calls. the i.c.e. building in the financial district will reopen

following a fourth of july protest. this is video showing tents lining the sidewalk. protesters demanding i.c.e. be abolished. the protests are in response to migrant families detained along the u.s./mexico border. some groups are calling for the elimination of all borders. >> what if we create areas of mutual aid where people can come together and build communities and kind of like sustain the damages that capitalism have done to our communities. >> activists believe the protest is preventing the court from functioning. the presence of protesters outside doesn't stop it. we have a lot of protesters, but we continue operating normally. >> the protesters started camping out monday. the building was closed yesterday for the holiday. president trump is not the only top official who has been meeting with potential nominees for the supreme court. it turns out vice president mike pence has been too. the associated press says pence has met with some of the candidates in recent days, but did not confirm who he met with. president trump says he will

choose from a list of 25 candidates and announce his decision monday. his choice has the potential to remake the high court for a generation. new this morning, a shortage of crisis workers to help san francisco police according to a report by the examiner. citing a civil grand jury report only three of the five positions have been filled since the team was created. the crisis intervention specialist team was introduced in 2016 to help police avoid shooting a person who is in crisis. it is the department of public health that's supposed to be doing the hiring. a dph spokeswoman told the examiner that four of the five positions have been hired and a fifth will be filled by september. a beloved restaurant in the east bay is closing its doors for good. not before it helps the community one last time. >> a spectacular sight in the sky postponed. the problem operators are watching out for tonight. >> you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. check out the bay this morning.

they turned the metering lights on about 20 minutes ago we were hoping for a holiday light rest the week off. that's not the case right now as you can see, traffic is filling in due to the metering lights on. very slow conditions on the upper span and they have temporary closed the two right lanes. apparently as a hit and run with injuries involved. i suggest bart and we'll follow this and have an update in a couple minutes. thank you. happening today, community members are hosting a closing party for a beloved richmond restaurant owner. >> she will be officially closing her restaurant salu saluta avita tomorrow. it is known for its charitable activities. it is shutting down after a number of hardships including a landlord/tenant dispute. the owner will offer free meals in exchange for donations. the money will benefit the 40 employees who are left without a job.

never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. we're looking at san jose, 280 at 17, cloudy in the south bay, contrast that with a little less cloud cover in walnut creek in the east bay valleys. we're going to have the warmest weather here with our mostly sunny day unfolds. dangerous surf. heading to the coast to get away from the heat don't turn your bck on the water. back to average next week. let's start with san francisco, or start off cloudy this morning, 56. we'll see sunshine, little breezy this afternoon. from near 60 at the coast to near 70 on the bayside. now along the eastbound shore, a little more homogenized temperatures, start cloudy and end up sunny with mid to upper 70s. for the peninsula, cloudy this morning also, 57 degrees. i just checked sfo no flight or arrival delays. that's good news. temperatures in the 70s throughout the afternoon hours with high clouds at 7:00. could reach 80 in redwood city for the warm spot. low to mid 60s along the coast. 57 at 7:00, down in the south bay, by noon we're seeing

sunshine and during the afternoon hours we're hitting the upper 70s in milpitas and sunnyvale. north bay, cudy at 53, jumping mid 80s this afternoon and our last stop getting close to air conditioning weather in our inland neighborhoods. 56 this morning but look at the mid 80s to low 90s this afternoon. my accuweather seven-day forecast shows after lows in the low 50s to nearly mid 60s by antioch, we're going to have highs tomorrow two to four degrees warmer, couple degrees warmer saturday and sunday and monday, still warmer than average and tuesday and wednesday back in the 60s, 70s, 80s. >> good morning. we have better news for the bay bridge that traffic alert has just been lifted. you can see they turned the metering lights on. they had this accident westbound temporarily blocking the two right lanes. chp has said they've cleared that off to the other side of the span. you can see as we zoom in we still have some slow traffic on the upper deck and behind the tolls as well. and coming off of the bay bridge

want to give you more information on the hazards that are lurking at the beach. it started at 5:00 this morning and goes through 5:00 saturday evening. especially the south facing beaches of marine and santa cruz counties. that's where you'll find rip currents and sneaker waves. incredible video from houston where a lot of the streets were flooded, but the wheels kept turning on a public bus, despite a street being covered in water. you can even see water getting in through the door but judging by the video people were still expecting the bus to pick them up regardless of what the weather was like. the bus stopped as you can see there and picked up a passenger.

low 60s at the coast. we'll go from 70 to 57 around the bay, that's close to average, and 70s this evening away from the coast where we will be in the 50s. sue, tell us more. >> well, the good news is there was an earlier accident on the bay bridge. they issued a sig alert that's been cleared, sig alert lifted, all lanes lifted. traffic is filled in. they had to turn the metering lights on which was much later this morning at about 6:50 -- pardon me, 5:51 this morning and the traffic is stacked up behind the toll plaza. take a look at our road sensors improving on the span but still very slow on the upper deck until you reach treasure island and traffic flows nicely into san francisco. you're looking at a 10 to 15 minute delay on the span itself and see the sensors flipping from red to yellow there. improving as we watch. take bart just to avoid this and we will check back in a few.

>> breaking news from the abc 7 live desk. >> breaking news in oakland after a house went up in flames overnight. several people had to be rescued from inside and abc 7 news reporter katie utehs is there. she's been talking to those victims and katie, how are they doing? >> jessica, they are shaken and eager to visit the 21-year-old woman taken to the hospital. she suffered some burns to her face and from smoke inhalation, but they say she is expected to be okay. i want to show you the scene where firefighters are now doing an intense overhaul of this badly damaged home. they've pulled out a few items, shoes, clothing for the victims, but there are six people displaced. i spoke with a woman who lives in the home and she first saw the fire and says it started in front of the house. she woke up her partner and everyone in the duplex so that they could get out. the fire started around 4:30s this morning at the home that is on hayes street near seminary.

it is a duplex. we asked battalion chief about the cause of the fire. >> i mean, it was the fourth of july so we won't rule anything out. like i said the investigation unit is here and they're going to interview everybody that was in the house, try to narrow it down and see if we can find a cause. >> reporter: residents who i spoke with said there was a fourth of july celebration, but she's unsure what caused the fire. the red cross has been called in to help the victims that are displaced. i spoke with one woman and she's not sure where she's going to stay at this point. hayes is blocked off and seminary has also been blocked at different points. a lot of fire apparatus in the area, fire trucks, so if you need to commute take that into consideration. firefighters will likely be on scene for some time cleaning up. live in oakland, katie utehs, abc 7 news. thank you, katie. now to walnut creek where crews overnight responded to a house fire there. you can see flames shooting out of the house on first avenue near hall lane. at the time of the fire,

witnesses heard fireworks in the area, but we don't know what caused this fire. there are no reports of any injuries ahts tell us that home is abandoned. even with warnings about police cracking down on illegal fireworks take a look, people still shot them off for hours. this view is from our tower camera showing you what happened in san francisco's mission district right after sunset. you can see these aren't just small sparklers or bottle rockets. they're almost professional grade pyrotechnics. >> to the county fire in napa and yolo counties, rugged terrain is making it difficult for firefighters to get a handle on it. the charred area in red. cal fire says it's spreading into the north into places crews can't get to. the yolo county sheriff's office has lifted some evacuations, though a stretch of highway 121 is still closed. as of this morning the fire is up to 86,000 acres, cup tainment now at 27%. firefighters remain confident they will have it fully contained by tuesday. the pawnee fire in lake

county is now 90% contained. so far the fire has burned 15,000 acres and destroyed 22 structures. officials are expecting that to be contained this weekend. the rash of summer fires is taking its toll on firefighters in marin county and there may be a second round ahead. >> senior fire captain bill says the sporadic rains we had late into the season helped fuel the growth of grass. that is acting as a fast fire starter. he says the threat could change in the fall depending on our weather. >> grasses are your light flashing fuels. we have to worry about later in the season is when the chaparral and the trees or the larger fuels dry out. >> marin county fire is recommendi recommending homeowners take the opportunity to cut back grass and shrubbery. maybe last night here, one of the tens of thousands who came out to see the fireworks along the embarcadero.

>> this year the fog actually stayed away and, of course, spectators loved that. they probably didn't love finding a parking space if they drove down. as you can see police closed the embarcadero near pier 39 as a security measure and those large city trucks created a road block to prevent anyone from getting past. some drivers circled around for an hour and trying to leave was a problem with traffic backed up from the embarcadero to the bay bridge. the homeless man charged in connection with 17 brush fires in the north bay will be in court today. the fires happened over a two-day period last month. this is along the santa rosa creek trail and west county trail in grayton. police arrested domingo bautista-bautista on monday. a man from san leandro faces charges following a discovery by bart police. they released this photo showing a gun. officers say they found it on him yesterday. a .9 mill meet weapon with an illegal high capacity mass zone and police say he is barred from

possessing any firearm due to his criminal history. the sister of a security guard shot and killed in san francisco is thanking police for arresting a suspect less than 24 hours after the crime. security guard rolando romero was face timing his wife in the philippines at his job at fitzgerald avenue and walker drive. this was monday morning. suddenly he realized he had been shot. romero died at the hospital. on tuesday officers took 24-year-old cardell coleman into custody and booked him on homicide. >> these who does these things? i hope he do have a conscience. you know, to think that he -- no one he killed is a person not to have that kind of death. he doesn't deserve that. >> lynn romero cruz is thanking officers for their quick work. new this morning, rents keep rising in the bay area, but there may be an end in sight.

wednesday. it was a busy night for san jose firefighters. they responded to dozens of calls last night. >> one of the fires they put out burned along the guadeloupe river near 237. that's while fireworks were going off overhead. reporter matt keller is live for us. matt? >> good morning. reggie and natasha, since i last saw you 45 minutes ago i received word from the san jose police department a spokesperson told me that they had not heard of any major incidents overnight but they are checking to see how many calls and arrests they made and they will get back with me. i want to show you what's taking place here. look at this, all the discarded fireworks, used fireworks, dozens of them, here and i want to show you where we're at because it shows you how dangerous and just how dry the conditions are here. look at this. this grass, just ready to go up in flames if any flame would get in contact with that. very dangerous area. nearby, that's exactly what happened here in san jose. check out this video from near here. you can see the hillside of 237

and the guadeloupe river was burning. firefighters called for a tier 1 response. looked like it burned about an acre before firefighters put it out. this video is incredible. look at the fireworks going off behind the fire. explosion after explosion. what appears to be a police helicopter with the spotlight shining down. i looked at the calls from san jose fire that came in after 9:30, 28 calls reporting fires between then and now. no word on what caused the fire here but, obviously, a lot of fireworks going off in the area. reporting live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thank you. president trump is lashing out at opec this morning blaming the oil cartel for rising gas prices and demanding they come down. prices are high. especially in the bay area. san francisco drivers pay an average of $3.81 a gallon. across california the average is $3.66 a gallon. 80 krenz higher than the national average. the president tweeted opec is doing little to help rises gas prices and reminded the cartel

the u.s. is defending many members and said it must be a two-way street. officials say president trump was only thinking out loud when he questioned advisors about the possibility of invading venezuela. a senior administration official says the president suggested a, quote, military option to remove president maduro from power last august. advisors told mr. trump an invasion could back fire. corruption, and human rights abuses are rampant in venezuela. a protest who climbed the base of the statute of liberty during the fourth of july celebrations will appear before a federal judge this morning. >> police were quick to respond yesterday afternoon. >> unauthorized person climbing the statute of liberty at this time. >> the nypd closed liberty island to deal with the demonstrators protesting president trump's immigration policies. it took more than two hours to get her down. a group that dropped a banner that said abolish i.c.e. acknowledges she was with them but say her actions were not part of the planned protests.

we've been tracking throughout the morning, the oakland fire department is on scene of a fire. a live look at the cleanup under way. a woman has burns to her face but she is expected to be okay. we also unfortunately just got word a dog died in the fire. meanwhile the red cross is helping the six people displaced. number two, a busy fourth of july for san jose firefighters. this grass fire was near the guadeloupe river and highway 237. you can see the fireworks going off in the background. firefighters received more than two dozen calls of fires. number three, plenty of illegal fireworks set off last night. our tower camera catching a few in san francisco's mission district. just one of many instances throughout the bay area. in san bruno police made 25 arrests for illegal fireworks. number four, firefighters in walnut creek went to work putting out this fire overnight that destroyed a vacant home. you can see flames shooting out of the house on first avenue near hall lane. no one was hurt and no word on a

cause. number five, following your morning commute this ad an accident earlier on the bay bridge. that has since been cleared. now you can see the backup to the crossings and your drive time from highway 4, hercules into the city. number six, talk about the clouds that are out there this morning, temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. faster sunshine and the return back to average temperatures. low 60s at the coast. mid 70s around the bay. mid 80s inland. warmer weather coming tomorrow. and number seven, travis air force base plans to put on its fourth of july drone show tonight. it was meant to replace an actual fireworks show but high winds forced officials to postpone it last night. the public can't actually get on to the base but we're told the drones can be seen up to three miles away. seems like this is the future. >> yeah. >> that's cool. >> no fire danger. yeah, exactly. it's beautiful. >> and no loud noises that keep up the morning crew all night long. i can buy into that.
