>> good morning, bay area. let's get up and get going. >> this is abc 7 mornings. it's saturday, july 7th. good morning and thanks so much for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with our first look at the forecast. here's frances dinglasan. >> it will be a warm day and hot inland. here's the satellite image and there are clouds off to the coast, but we're seeing a lot of blue skies over parts of the bay area as we look live towards the bay, here's the 12-hour day planner and limited coastal fog in the next couple of hours and inland temperatures will be in the 70s around the bay and mid-60s and up the coast, we'll be warming things up quickly for lunchtime and by this afternoon mild to hot. temperatures inland will be in the mid-90s around the bay, t-shirt and shorts weather, mid-80s and at the coast the sea breeze will keep things mild and mid-60s there. sun sets at 8:34 this evening

and it will be clear and mild, as well and i'll let you know how long the hot days will stay with us. >> thanks. >> new overnight investigators are working to determine the cause of a three-alarm fire. the santa clara fire department shared these photos on twitter. the fire broke out at the former by the bucket restaurant on stephens creek boulevard. it's been vacant since last year. firefighters were able to get the flames under control just after 1:30 this morning. thankfully no one was hurt. >> thousands of people are out of their homes as a fast-moving fire burns in santa barbara county. skymap 7 from our sister station in los angeles shows the area before the holiday fire and then as it burns in a neighborhood. the fire has already destroyed at least 20 homes since it started last night in goleta. more than 2200 people are evacuated. the fire started in a home and then spread to nearby brush. officials say it has burned 50 to 80 acres so far. the cause is under investigation. governor jerry brown has

declared a state of emergency for a fire that broke out yesterday morning near san diego. that one is called the west fire and it has burned 400 acres in alpine. 18 structures have been destroyed including a 130-year-old historic ranch. containment is up to 30%. >> i'm a little scared and a little worried, but we're holding up. it's just one of those things that's been said, you know, you pay the price for living here in beautiful california, you know? of course, wildfires are one of the down side of it. >> several roads in the area remain closed this morning. hundreds of residents have been evacuated. >> in siskiyou county evacuation orders remain in effect as crews battle the klamathon fire. there's also damage to two cemeteries. we've learned one person has died. the fire has burned more than 21,000 acres. containment remains at 5%. >> in the town of guinda, fire officials will hold a community

meeting later today about the county fire. the fire itself has now burned more than 88,000 acres in napa and yolo counties and is now 48% contained. ten structures have been destroyed and more than 100 are threatened this morning. firefighters are concerned that this weekend may be hotter and dryer with stronger winds. today's meeting starts at 4:00 at guinda grange hall. >> technology could help speed up the response to wildfires across northern california. sonoma county is considering the installation of fire watch cameras. abc 7 news reporter katie utehs has more. >> reporter: you're watching the county fire in yolo county fire spread atop bald mountain. similar cameras could soon be installed in sonoma county. >> it is so critical. graham kent says the cameras help locate fire in second, not minutes. >> we have lightning-based

fires. >> time is critical for mike mohler. >> we can see an early start on a fire and start pushing resources that direction. >> reporter: one of the fiocio ithe hills behind me outside santa rosa. we took drone view 7 to pepperwood preserve so you could get a vantage point. >> the burn scars from last year's firestorm are visible from here. if approved, the cameras could be installed ahead of the one-year anniversary of the fire. >> we had success with them and still do in southern california. so absolutely it's something that we would definitely use. >> reporter: the cameras would be installed on existing towers with the first batch put up around lake sonoma. it's a vital reservoir supplying more than 600,000 people in the north bay with drinking water. the project is estimated to cost around $475,000. county supervisors will consider the proposal on august 7th. in santa rosa, katie utehs, abc 7 news. >> and you can find the latest

fire information on our website abc 7 news.com and the abc 7 news app. make sure to sign up for push alerts to get updates as soon as they become available. developing in thailand the race to rescue 1an their soccer coach from a cave. right now, authorities are waiting for volunteer divers to arrive so they can start ef national m out. correspondent matt gutman has the update. >> the mission to extract the boys could begin within 24 hours according to an internal u.s. government report obtained by abc news. if they swim up, each of the now emaciated boys could be shepherded out in what's called a buddy dive. essentially hauled by divers through tunnels sometimes only as wide as a manhole cover. >> it is the best plan so we can bring them out and the risk is minimal. >> reporter: over the past several day, divers and rescuers

have amassed hundreds of air tanks along the route. british divers have been teaching boys how to dive and some of the basics of swimming. authorities have drilled over n the boys and to create a second outflow of water in the three-mile long cave. and this morning for the first time letters emerging from three miles deep, the boyins writing home. >> the boys asked for fried chicken and barbecue pork and others asked they not get too much homework when they get out. >> 13-year-old dom said i'm fine, but it's a little bit cold. don't worry and don't forget my birthday. >> some say they want to go home now and heartbreakingly, the 14-year-old said mom and dad, don't worry that i'm missing for two weeks. i will help you at the shop soon. their coach also writing, sending love for his family and apologies to the families of the

boys writing, and i promise i will take care of the kids. thank you for your support. i would like to say that i am really sorry to you all. >> so this here say practice field that the team used to play on. in fact, it's the place they set out from to go to that cave. now it's a landing pad for rescue helicopters, and it was in that field overnight that we met the team's head coach who told us it was never informed that his assistant coach known as coach a had ever taken the kids to that cave. the head coach told me he didn't know that his assistant went inside that cave with the kids. >> i just spoke with the inte interior minister here that he himself has tested out a large, inflatable tube through which the boys could crawl out without having to swim or learn how to scuba dive and very similar to what elon musk has floated and he's sending engineers to have alternate ways to get the boys

out. >> happening now, anti-violence protesters are gathering to march in chicago. many are holding signs and demanding common-sense gun laws and demanding better resource, schools and economic development. demonstrators are getting ready to march on the busy dan ryan expressway. we are taking a live look right now where you can see the cars are already backed up. many chicago police officers as well as officias with the illinois state police are on hand to ensure the safety of the crowd. we'll continue to monitor this story. time now is 8:08. today marks one year since an arsonist destroyed an apartment building. now they're trying to find the person responsible. a suspicious fire burned a seven-story building on valdez and broadway. this monday the city of oakland will launch a tip line to report and aounce a new reward to help track down those responsible. >> a warning if you're headed to the beach today. hricane

>> three teenagers in the east bay are credited with saving a woman who was drowning in a pool. the near-death experience happened tuesday night in alameda. abc 7 news reporter carlos salcedo talked to the teens who jumped into action. >> the summer hou apartments in alameda are home to three young heroes. that's the reputation, jessica,

kristine and george have earned for their actions tuesday night. the friends were exercising near the pool when they heard a man call for help. >> there was this woman on the bottom of the pool. >> the woman was deep in 8 1/2 feet of water and it was difficult for anyone to get to her. >> i dived into the pool, but it was so hard because she was, like, all of the way under the pool. >> so the teens decided to team up and create a human chain. >> we all held hands and we pulled her together. >> all three of us, we helped her go on the side of the pool. >> once the woman was out of the cool she was given cpr, but inhaled too much water and had to be taken to alameda hospital. >> that's when the teens went to visit their new friend. 24-year-old zulaa amgalam as she recovered. >> we bought her flowers. it was emotional. >> zulaa finally came home today saying she's grateful through an interpreter. >> translator: she is thankful

they hit the target of 5,000 model 3s a week at the production plant in fremont. >> now an accuweather update. >> from abc 7 mornings. >> i'm frances >> notice the clouds are off the coast, but clear around many parts of the bay area and check out this fog that's seeping past the golden gate bridge. it's a thin marine layer and it will dissipate pretty quickly. in san francisco it's 58 oakland, 63 and gilroy already at 70 degrees right now. here is another live shot and we're looking at the down tun san jose area and santa rosa now in the 60s and napa, 63. low 70s through fairfield and concord right now. look at this beautiful shot. this is the santa cruz beach. it will be a great day there with temperatures warming up to near 80 degrees. we have mild conditions at the coast and hot temperatures inland and be careful if you are

heading to the beaches and the beach hazard statement in effect until 3:00 this afternoon and if you want cooler temperatures, they're coming, but not until the end of next week. highs today will range from mid-60s at the coach and up to 20 miles per hour so it will be mild. it will tobacco 70 degrees and look for 78 in oakland and san jose, 89 and the hot temperatures inland and the mid-90s and you'll find them in fairfield and out to antioch and low 90s through santa rosa and napa and san rafael. on the cool side a bit and mid-60s through half moon bay and santa cruz up to 80 degrees and it will be sunny and dangerous surf conditions and especially for south facing beaches there will be three to seven feet, current wave heights

are seven feet so this could make for strong rip currents and sneaker waves. this is all due to post-tropical fabio, we saw more humidity and the surf will continue through this afternoon, but it's already started to weaken. overnight lows will be mainly in the 50s and still mild inland and not cooling down. antioch, with a 65 overnight and lots of mid-50s. still breezy as well and we'll see some fog mainly confined to the beaches. we have hot conditions especially in southern california where they broke quite a few records yesterday and for u we'll see hot inland temperatures today, tomorrow still sunny and warm and even monday and tuesday. very little change. wednesday, things start to cool down a little bit and we'll see more of a summer spread and the fog returns and we'll be more in

are. good morning east bay. let's get up and get going. >> this is abc 7 mornings. it's half past the hour on this saturday morning. thanks so much for being with us. i'm chris nguyen. we're off to a mild start across the bay area. here's frances dinglasan. >> good morning. clouds right now mainly confined to the coast. they are starting to spill in through parts of the north bay as you can see here with live doppler 7 and the satellite image and you see the low clouds there just peeking up over the hills behind san francisco. here's your 12-hour day planner and limited coastal fog with temperatures in the 70s in the inland areas and in the next hour around the bay and 60s to near 70 and off the coast in the

50s and things will be warming quickly for lunchtime and by this afternoon it will be mild to hot. inland numbers in the mid-90s and head to the pool, t-shirts and shorts weather mid-80s at the coast and the sea breeze keeps things mild so mid-60s there. a clear night tonight after sunset at 8:34 and i'll let you know how long this hot weather will stick around coming up, chris? >> we'll see you soon, frances, thank you. >> thousands of people in santa barbara county are out of their homes after a fast-moving fire. this video from the santa barbara fire department shows a stru structure destroyed by flames. at least 20 structures have been destroyed and more than 2200 people are under a mandatory evacuation order. the fire is 5% contained. approximately 2,000 people are without power this morning. right now there are at least ten major wildfires burning from the oregon border down to southern california. a state of emergency has been declared for a fire that broke

out yesterday morning in san diego county. the largest by far is still the county fire in napa and yolo counties and that fire has burned more than 88,000 acres and is 48% contained. officials will hold a community meeting at 4:00 this afternoon in guinda to provide updates for residents. ten structures have been destroyed and more than a hundred are threatened. firefighters expect full containment by thursday. >> the thai governor in charge of rescuing 12 boys and their soccer coach from a cave says the weather conditions are good for extraction. a proposed plan to have the boys buddy dive out of the cave with the rescuers could be launched this weekend. in a letter, the coach apologized to the boys' parents. the boys say they're doing well, but they miss their families. two big groups of volunteer divers are expected to arrive today to help with the extraction. while the primary rescue plan moves forward there are backup plans still in the works including some involving help from bay area tech leader elon

musk. engineers from his company's spacex and the boring company are on their way to help. abc 7 news reporter melanie woodrow has more on the details of the underground conditions faced by the rescue team. >> reporter: elon musk joining the conversation on how to safely rescue the 12 boys and their coach. musk tweeting he's sending employees from his company spacex and boring to see if they can help. also suggesting inflatable tubes and pods to create an air tunnel passageway under water. >> if elon says it will work hopefully it will. >> mauricious has extensive cave diving experience. >> it's extremely challenging to train somebody in those conditions to dive, let alone cave dive. >> reporter: divers have been teaching the boys diving and breathing techniques in preparation for this weekend's possible buddy dive plan. the accelerated time line would take advantage of the boys still having high oxygen levels.

thai officials say the boys are in relatively good health, but cave diving presents unique challenges. >> by virtue of the fact that you have an overhead above you which means that you cannot ascend straight up if you need to exit the cave. you have to go back the way that you entered. >> reporter: this map shows the narrow, flooded passages the boys and their coach would have to get through. the first phase which involves staging equipment and clearing obstacles in the cave could be completed by 6:00 p.m. local time saturday. the success phase which includes the buddy diving could start as early as sunday morning local time. >> and the plan is to bring the boys and their coach out of the cave the same way that they initially entered two weeks ago. in the newsroom, melanie woodrow, abc 7 news. anti-violee rc chicago we first told you about at the top of the show.us dan ryan expressway. this is a live look. officials closed some of the lanes earlier to make sure there is a barrier between the marchers and the traffic. now if you're familiar with this

part of chicago, you can see there the l train tracks are parallel to this part of the expressway as people make their way through that overpass there. many protesters are holding signs demanding common-sense gun laws and community resource, community schools, jobs and economic development. time now is 8:34. a judge has refused to extend a deadline that forces the trump administration to reunite young some specific cases may be extended giving the administration more time to match dna. the order says 101 children under the age of 5 must be reunited with their parents by tuesday. about 2,000 older children must be reunited by july 26th, specific cases that could be extended beyond tuesday include 16 children who have not been matched to their parents, 19 children whose parents are no longer in custody and cannot be reached and several cases in which the children have non-biological parents. some parents have been reunited

including two families thursday, one from guatemala and one from mexico. this weekend the two sides will try to determine which of the children can be excused from the deadline. new this morning pleasanton police are asking for your help to identify this man who they say engaged in lewd conduct. home security cameras caught video of the man thursday night. fremont police say it's possible the same man is connected to similar crimes in their city. they say he may be associated with a newer model white four-door crossover vehicle. if you have any information about this man you are asked to contact pleasanton police. a muni street car and fedex car collide in downtown san francisco. this is video from the scene at 8th and market. you can see the cab of the big rig ended up in front of the muni f line street car as it headed towards the embarcadero. four people were hurt, but all are expected to be okay. happening now, eat to your heart's content at the taste of

>> new this morning we've learned what's left of the clubhouse at the golden gate park golf course will soon be demolished. fire destroyed the building early monday. the golf course is closed for now. it will re-open after the crews clean everything up. so far it's unclear what sparked the fire. the clubhouse has been around for more than 60 years. the port of oak laland will wele a brightly colored ship on monday. the vessel is more than 1,000 feet long and it is a cherry blossom colored containership. it's a part of japan's recently consolidated shipping lines. the ship is scheduled to arrive at the marine terminal monday morning at 7:00 and it will leave tuesday morning for hong kong. time now is 8:41. frances dinglasan has been tracking the accuweather forecast and earlier we saw the view from walnut creek. we are used to that section of the bay area looking pretty sunny and what not, but there are clouds out there.

have a good weekend. good morning, i'm meteorologist frances dinglasan, and the satellite image and the clouds are quickly dissipating. here's a look at some of the clouds they have into parts of the north bay and along the coast, the peninsula coast, and that's it. we have clear skies over parts of the bay and in fact, you can see it here and there's a live shot, and we saw the low clouds already starting to dissipate and retreat in san francisco and it's currently 58 degrees and oakland, 63. san jose, 68 degrees and check out gilroy, 73 degrees and things will warm up. as we head into the south bay, you can see downtown san jose, there are high clouds in the distance and that's not going to slow things up for the warm-up we're expecting today. in santa ross a napa 61, fairfield and concord, low 70s right now. santa cruz, because a lot of folks will be heading to the beaches today to beat the hot

weather. we will see mild temperatures at the coast because of the sea breeze. hot inland and mid-90s expected and beach hazards in effect until 3:00 this afternoon and issue extra careful if you are headed to the coast and cooler temperatures don't come our way until the end of next week. highs today will range from mid-60s to mid-90s and breezy at the coast. 70 for san francisco, for the giants game and oakland and san mateo, 78 degrees and look for san jose to hit near 90 and the warmest spot will be farther inland so at fairfield and antioch headed to 95 and low 90 exor santa rosa and napa, comfortable at 84 degrees and we'll see 60s with the exception of the santa cruz warming up and dangerous surf conditions so be extra careful and never turn your back in the ocean especially for south-facing beaches because

there is a southerly swell. so three to seven-foot southerly swell and the current waves are 7 feet bodega bay and monterey bay. also around state look for triple digit heat in the southern part of our state where we saw many records broken yesterday. san luis obispo 100, los angeles 101 and as we head to las vegas, and nevada and arizona and it will be very hot and phoenix getting up to 112 and that's because we have high pressure building over the four corners and this is also bringing us some high fire danger and there is a red flag warning in effect for nevada and parts of southern california and this is all due to low humidity and gusty winds and high heat expected. now for us, here's a look at the week ahead. for example in antioch. our high today will be 95. notice how we will stay in the 90s through tuesday and even wednesday we come down a little bit, but more moderate temperatures by the end of the workweek. so here's the accuweather
