live, this is abc 7 news you could hear it. the winds whipping the flames after several large wildfires burn right now across california leaving a trail of charred destruction in their wake. i'm eric thomas. >> and i'm dion limb. developing news on the wildfires. three of the largest and most destructive are burning in san diego county, siskiyou county and santa barbara county. >> here is a better idea of the

severity. this google map shows 12 # wildfires burning today in the state. >> now the fires combined have charred 199 square miles of land. the only one burning in the bay area is the county fire burning in napa and yolo county. >> wildfires burning have destroyed 85 buildings, including several homes and one person died in the klamathon fire near the oregon border. firefighters are making progress on the massive county fire in napa and yolo county and containment is up to 48% but cal fire is worried the weather could cause some problems this weekend. the flames have scorched about 138 square miles and destroyed ten buildings, about a hundred other structures remain threatened and there is still a few mandatory evacuations in place. firefighters expect to have the fire fully contained by thursday. the pawnee fire in lake county is nearly fully contained. cal fire made progress and containment is at 95%. the fire started two weeks ago and has destroyed 22 buildings

and some homes and it has charred 24 square miles. we're posting updates on abc7news.com and the abc 7 news app. you could sign up for push alerts to get immediate updates on your mobile device. in other news, investigators are sifting through the rubble of a former restaurant in the south bay trying to determine what caused a fire that gutted the building. witnesses shared video from the scene with abc 7 news. the fire broke out at the former by the bucket restaurant on stevens creek boulevard in santa clara. firefighters were able to get the flames under control just after 1:30 this morning. they continued to put out smoldering spots in the fire throughout the day. the popular restaurant has been vacant since last year after being in business for nearly 60 years. the clubhouse at the golden gate park golf course is set to be demolished after a fire destroyed the building on monday. the golf course is closed for now. sf rec and park said the course will reopen after the crews demolish the clubhouse and

remove the debris. it is unclear what ignited the fire. the clubhouse has been around for more than 60 years. on the heels of eight people reportedly being shot overnight in oakland, an east bay mother is calling for change after losing her son this year to gun violence. abc 7 news was at 34th and chestnut in oakland where a rally took place. her son patrick scott junior was shot to death in february. she said the rally is to show support for the other parents who have lost children. >> it is not about my son. it is about all kids and all murders and all lives. it is time to make a change and the time is now. i'm tired. i'm fed up and i can't take it no more. enough is enough. all this gun violence. >> ferguson is the founder of the moore foundation and anti-violence advocacy group. the search is on for aman accused of exposing himself in fremont and pleasanton. this is a photo of the suspect.

home security cameras captured video on thursday night. he has a band tattoo on the upper right arm and may be driving a newer model white four door cross over vehicle and the incidented happened between june 15th and july 5th. rescue crews are working to get a soccer team and the coach out of a cave in thailand. elon musk is offering his services and indicated in a tweet this morning that he has a team working on an escape pod that would work like a mini submarine. rescuers are look at another scenario involving getting them out one by one. maggie ruly said the boys appear to be in good spirits despite the dire situation. >> reporter: thai authorities are calling it a war against the water. divers working around the clock trying to rescue the boys before heavy rains hit again. according to an internal u.s. government report obtained by abc news, the mission to get all 12 boys and their soccer coach out of the cave could begin any

hour now. each of the boys will go on what is being called a buddy dive. a haul by divers through tunnels sometimes only as wide as man hole covers. >> i could guarantee someone will have their hands on the boys every step of the way coming out of the cave. >> reporter: over days the divers have been teaching them how to dive. some are learning the basics of swimming for the very first time. >> we said the best plan is if we can bring them out and the risk is minimum maybe we'll try. >> reporter: from above authorities have drilled over 100 holes into the mountain. both to find an alternate route and to create a second outflow of water in the three mile long cave. as the world waits for their escape, we're hearing more from the boys. in letters to parents, they asked for fried chicken and barbecue pork and others ask they not get too much homework

back to developing news on the california wildfires. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard joining us live. tell us, bay area crews, they are helping fight the fire tonight, too. >> that is right. fire crews from the north and south bay providing aid to help fight the monster fires. so far red flag conditions making for very little containment. in siskiyou county, the fire fight continues. major fire fight on and the klamathon fire burning more than 33 square miles across state lines into oregon. the santa clara county fire department is on the front lines along with resources from marin

county. assisting a thousand fire crews. cal fire said one resident still unidentified was killed in the town of homebrook and the body found in charred ruins of a home and hundreds have been told to evacuate. to the south now? n santa barbara, a fierce fire on friday night. the holiday fire has burned 20 structures including homes, forcing more than a thousand evacuations in the town of goleta. fire started at a home and spread to nearby brush. and in san diego county, five homes have burned in the foothill community of alpine. homeowners there have been told to leave. >> the events that we've seen and you've heard the term the new normal, the number of size and frequency of fires over the years have become -- i won't say the new normal, it is just become normal. >> we tried to get what we could and get out. we had dogs and tortoises and we

were able to get out -- like i said, the important things. >> now cal fire said the klamathon and holiday fires are 5% contain and and evacuation orders are still in place i'm cornell bernard. abc 7 news. >> so widespread. thank you. now many of oakland's unique flavors, sights and sounds and crafts took center stage today. abc 7 news was at jesus christ london square for the kickoff to the taste of oakland. the event featured local tastes and merchandise that captured the character of oakland and the bay area. the taste of oakland made the debut last year. in case you missed it today, it returns on august 4th and september 1st. and an unexpected customer surprised workers at a tennessee dairy queen. a otter woundered in from a nearby creek in brownsville. workers say he was healthy but hot and hungry and quickly became popular with customers. >> i looked up and sure enough it is an otter.

place. 65 in san francisco. but contrast that to concord, 92 in inland and 92 in brentwood and 83 # for san jose. so it is warm in the south bay. equally as warm in the north bay. 89 in santa rosa and cloverdale 91. and southern california getting the brunt of the most intense heat. 98 the current temperature in l.a. 115 in palm springs. even 102 in fresno. and that intense heat will stay there the next couple of days. the reason why high pressure is firmly in control over the four corners. that will continue to keep us rather breezy and rather cool along our coastline. but inland we'll be warm to hot. and the next couple of days we'll have the marine layer snlt going to be there. limited fog in the morning however that continues to keep the highest temperatures and the highest fire danger in southern california. so sunday you could see numerous excessive heat warnings around los angeles. even red flag warnings.

heat advisories reaching as far so it is warm t our south the next 24 hours. overnight a mild night. 50s to mid-60s. the name of the game the next 12 hours. 56 the low in san francisco. 57 in oakland. 62 in san jose. 63 in concord and napa. dropping about 51 degrees with plenty of stars out there. so tomorrow kind of a cash on copy forecast to today. so if you like today, you'll love tomorrow. high sundays in the south bay starting with 87 in san jose. 85 the high in cupertino and the coast is breezy and much cooler in the mid to low 60s. but you see mountain view 80 degrees and 78 the high in redwood city. downtown san francisco will hit 71 tomorrow. breezy and cooler in daly city about 62. in the north bay, breezy in napa, going to 90 degrees. sauce leta cooler along the water but into the east bay. 74 in oakland. sunshine is breezy.
