burned dangerously close to the freeway. >> you are looking at video here from the alameda county fire department showing heavy smoke alongside the freeway. the fire burning on both sides of the road. the chp shut down the westbound lanes for four hours and eastbound lanes for six hours. it has burned 600 acres and is 40% contained. cars whizzed by as smoke drifted over the road. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. right now, the most destruct destructive fire is 25% contained. flames have killed one person and burned 72 buildings. 810 structures are still threatened this morning. calfire says the is also threatening two power plants, water systems and endangered

species habitats. >> let's see what the firefighters are facing today. a look at the winds. near livermore they are relatively calm right now, 3 miles per hour. they're blowing straight west to east. they pick up speed jumping into the altamonte pass up to about 10 miles per hour. thankfully nothing too gusty right now that the firefighters couldn't deal with. 15 right now, not a strong sea breeze. because of that, we start off clear this morning and comfortable. temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. look how quickly we hit the 70s and 80s by noon away from the coast, 80s and 90s by 4:00. at 7:00 back into the 70s and 80s. the winds pick up this afternoon. we'll talk about that next, alexis. i have an yupt update in th

tri-valley. dublin. eastbound 580 in hopyard. all lanes are back open. things are looking great. so no worries with that situation. i want to head back to the central valley, though. 32 and 15 miles an hour as jessica and reggie said, we have all lanes back open on 580 following the fire yesterday that happened last night. looks like folks are slowing down out of the tracy stretch. on to developing news. the vta train service in san jose could be impacted this morning after a deadly crash. >> two people died yesterday after police say a car tried to go around the crossing gates. abc7 news reporter matt keller is live in san jose. matt. >> reporter: good morning, reggie and jessica. lincoln avenue is april to traff -- open to traffic but crews have to repair the power lines and track. security video shows the violent

crash on lincoln avenue. the car, a gold buick regal, was mangled while the train ran off its rails. the male driver of the buick and male passenger died at the scene. witnesses say they may have been living out of their car. the train operator and passengers suffered no injuries. one passenger is recovering from a sore hand. >> you see the walls coming down. you don't know what to expect. i didn't know if it was a bomb or what it was. i didn't know it was a car until after. >> reporter: san jose police say the crossing arms were down and functioning but the man behind the wheel tried to droive aroun them. there will be a detour until repairs are completed this morning. matt keller, abc7 news. a fifth boy has been rescued from the thailand cave this morning.

divers restarted the operation to save them after four boys were evacuated yesterday. we want to show you live images coming in right now from thailand of what's happening just outside the cave. rescuers planned to take a ten to 20-hour break to replenish oxygenn the cave but started up a few hours earlier than scheduled. more than a dozen divers including thai navy s.e.a.l.s are guiding the boys out. >> the restricted environment makes it challenging for even those most experienced divers, much less the kids. >> officials say the four boys pulled from the cave yesterday are in good health but are not allowed close contact with relatives due to fear of infections. rescuers hope the operation will be complete before monsoon rain intensify. for the very latest on the rescue efforts, download the

abc7 news app and enable push alerts. today president trump is set to announce his supreme court nominee to fill the seat of retiring justice anthony kennedy. he'll reveal the choice in a prime time televised address. here are the frontrunners under consideration. >> reporter: this is the president's second u.s. supreme court justice pick less than two years into his presidency. we know whomever he picks will likely be conservative, but what democrats are most concerned about is how far to the right this potential justice could take the court. president trump is taking a page out of his reality show days, announcing during prime time his pick for the vacant supreme court seat. >> let's say it's the four people. but they're excellent, everyo >> reporter: most democrats disagree. the top were picked out of a group of 25 by a group of conservative lawyers called the

him with terminal cancer. he worked as a school grounds keeper for the school district and regularly handled roundup. this is the first of nearly 4,000 claims to go to trial. a number of families trying to get spots at some of the city's best public schools is on the rise. it's called residency fraud. according to the examiner there were 53 cases in the past school year, up from 48 the previous year and 34 the year before that. the district's educational placement center has flagged 17 cases for potential fraud for the upcoming school year. let's talk temperatures. you are never more than 7 minutes away from my accuweather forecast. heading in, 53, on the cool side. 57 in the financial. castro and mission, 54 along with glen park. ocean beach, bay view, about 55. elsewhere, yep, this is kind of

warm in some spots. tracy, 71. pittsburgh at 69. a lot more comfort around places like palo alto, 56. petaluma, daily city, 51 to 52. the commute. western side of the bay bridge. driving today it will be another hot day. hopefully the air-conditioner works well. not only there but also on the mass transit. as it will be cool this morning but it will be hot in a lot of areas this afternoon and breezy. here is a look at the east bay valleys. heading into the 90s as we head from, oh, about 1:00 through 6:00. back down into the mid 80s. still kind of warm during the evening. the last stop will be in the south bay. hanging out in the mid 80s in the afternoon and about 75 degrees. a little more comfort towards 8:00. pretty hot weekend. hopefully everybody found a way to enjoy the last couple days of their vacation. >> i know.

>> a lot of people coming back to work today. how is it looking? >> crickets last week, basically. nobody was working except us it felt like anyway. starting off with the crickets on the richmond side of the richmond san rafael bridge. in another hour or so we'll see the volumes increase. a light drive if you're traveling westbound 580 toward marin county this morning. no collisions to report, no major blocking issues. highway 4 to walnut creek, 6 minutes. walnut creek to highway 13, 8 minutes. tracy to dublin, not terrible but in the yellow at 47 minutes. we have a new minor issue in the south bay. we'll check it out next. >rati rcue captured at a bay area beach. a surfer with a big thank you for the coast guard. >> harvey weinstein back in court today. the new charge he is answering to.

close to it in sacramento, chico. 109 in palm springs, 80s and 90s, pretty warm around san diego and los angeles. yosemite, 87 today. tahoe, 85. one of our quieter days moving forward as we have got a chance of thunderstorms as we head towards wednesday, thursday, and friday. reggie. a surfer is doing just fine this morning thanks to the u.s. coast guard. one of its helicopters came to his rescue after he became stranded on the rocks yesterday. an offduty life guard helped the man swim into the ocean where he could be rescued. rick lindberg shared the video. you see the surfer being lifted in the helicopter. he was lowered onto the beach before the coast guard. the surfer gives him a big hug. oakland are cracking down on the misuse of disabled parking placards.

officials are increasing enforcement on placards that belong to someone else or are fake or expired. sting operations include random audits. the city says in the past similar stings resulted in more than 1,000 citations issued in one year. the fine for misuse or abuse of a placard is $513. movies shot and set in oakland had a successful limited release this weekend and is getting rave reviews. >> "sorry to bother you." let's look at what the cinematic par trail means for oakland. >> reporter: sorry to bother you tells a story of a telemarketer trying to survive in an alternate present day version of oakland. it has received positive reviews. here he is at the film's premiere. >> the inspiration is just to make a movie that you can't guess what's going on. >> reporter: oakland residents are embracing the film.

really wasn't worth it to try to make it to the airport. >> the government has since rescinded the price increases, but the situation is still described as chaotic. the united states tried to shove down a world health organization resolution to promote breast feeding but it failed. the "new york times" reports that at a conference in may ecuador planned to introduce a resolution saying mother's milk is healthiest for children. and countries should limit the misleading marketing of breast milk substitutes. when the u.s. delegation failed to water the resolution down, officials threatened to punish ecuador with trade measures and block military aid. ecuador backed down but russia introduced the resolution, and it was approved. an eye-catching art exhibit in the heart of san francisco civic center plaza. 40 sculptures. each six and a half foot statue

'sre t get in for san francisco residents. otherwise, entrance costs $8. the festival ends on july 16. a man in alberta, canada, became a little too focused on taking video of a family of bears. that situation quickly turned from awe-inspiring to terrifying. here it is. momma bear caught on that zachary brown was taking video of her family. after a few seconds of staring she made her intentions pretty clear. stop taking the video. brown was obviously scared but wasn't hurt. >> i don't know if momma bears have an awareness of video cameras but they have an awareness of someone being there they don't like. new at 5:00. why the former san francisco ma mayor is calling for someone to run unopposed. the rescue
