>> a young san francisco couple's mexico trip turns tragic. the husband watches as his wife was killed by a stray bullet. just horrifying. good evening, i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm kristen sze. alma daetz has the night off. 27-year-old tatiana of san francisco was traveling with her husband celebrating their wedding anniversary when she was shot. >> abc7 news reporter lilian kim is here now with more on the story. lilian? >> reporter: dan and kristen, they had been to mexico many times since childhood. this trip included three other couples and her husband who was a few steps ahead of her when she was shot. they just left a taco restaurant in an upscale neighborhood of mexico city. she married one year ago, and to celebrate she and her husband james left for mexico city. the young couple from san francisco was on a quest to dine at as many michellin restaurants as they could. she was shot by a stray bullet.

mexican authorities say a gunman was aiming at a bouncer at a nearby bar when one of their bullets struck her in the head. >> she was telling me how wonnerful time -- how safe it was. >> reporter: her family spoke to us from chicago where she grew up. >> a year ago we were selecting flowers for the wedding. today we were looking at flowers for the funeral. >> reporter: her coworkers in san francisco's mission bay are grieving, too. she worked as a senior investor relations analyst at nektar therapeutics where she was described as a bright and passionate rising star with an incredibly strong work ethic. she also made her mark at clemson university where she played division one volleyball. >> she would give 200%, you know. as a mother we always say thing, but she inspired me to be better. i'll give my life if she could just come back. >> reporter: her body will be

number of california's sanctuary state laws. a second judge rejected white house efforts to detain immigrant families in long-term facilities. while the trump administration was granted more time beyond tomorrow's deadline to reunite the youngest migrant children with their families, and they will submit a proposed time line tomorrow. >> divers and rescue workers in thailand have begun what could be the final push to free those four boys and their soccer coach trapped in the cave. the third operation is now underway. two rescue missions down and the eight boys saved so far are safe and sound. the hospital spokesman says the first four boys taken from the cave are eating normal foods now, though nothing spicy. all of the boys are in an isolation unit away from germs. two of the boys have lung infections. >> they were in that cave for a long timex posed to human waste and unsanitary conditions.

>> the hospital staff dedicated an entire floor to care for them. they call the buddy system successful. divers completed the rescue in nine hours on monday, some two hours faster than the day before. officials say weather permitting, it is possible all four remaining boys and their soccer coach could be rescued in one mission. wouldn't that b fantastic? fingers crossed obviously. the governor of the region is confident all five will be brought out on tuesday. let's hope so. >> tesla ceo elon musk was in the caves today. he tweeted images from inside. he brought i mini sub to thailand. he said it's ready if needed. he named it wild boar after the name of the kids' soccer team. here's video from this weekend showing what it looks like. musk will leave it behind in thailand for any future use. >> abc7 news will air a special edition of 2020 tomorrow night at 9:00 on the thailand rescue. you can always find the latest on the rescue efforts.

>> new at 11:00, a santa clara mother is desperate to get her possessions back after someone stole the family's u-haul truck. inside mementos and her children's artwork. you can't replace that obviously. abc7 news katie udis spoke with the victim and has more on how you can help. >> reporter: santa clara resident denise hall said she didn't know where to turn so she called abc7. >> i have never been so devastated and so disappointed in humanity. >> reporter: last week her family loaded this u-haul because they're updating the flooring in their home. they have to move temporarily. >> we finished loading at 10:00 in the evening and by that time my husband and i and also our neighbors, we were exhausted so we locked up the u-haul. >> reporter: on friday, she says, someone stole the truck. >> but what was especially heart breaking was my children's personal objects, like their childhood stuffed animals. >> reporter: denise purchased the insurance offered by u-haul.

it protects the truck itself and not her items inside. the truck has arizona plates ad 47205. she's filed a police report. >> i think the likelihood of the vehicle being recovered is good. someone is going to notice that a u-haul van has been parked at a specific location for far too long. >> reporter: the family had a file cabinet with paperwork in it. >> we believe that the thieves used that to steal our identity. >> reporter: denise said they made fraudulent purchases in campbell. she knows it was a mistake to leave the loaded u-haul. she hopes her story warns others and that someone spots the stolen truck. in santa clara, katie udis, abc7 news. >> a mother accused of abandoning her child in los angeles has been identified as a walnut creek woman. police say dava webster left her young son at a train station on july 4th. officers found him that night, but he just wouldn't talk. webster was arrested when she returned to the station one day

later. she's being held on a $100,000 bond and charged with felony child endangerment. neighbors say she was recently evicted from her walnut creek apartment. >> i wouldn't think she would do this to her son. she would come outside and play with him. i didn't see any problem with her. she was a good mom to him. >> well, webster's son is now safe with a relative. >> all right. are you looking to make a few extra hundred dollars a month perhaps? you might want to move to stockton. that city which recently came out of bankruptcy will give 100 residents $500 a month for 18 months. it's a concept called universal basic income. the goal is to create economic stability, possibly reducing poverty. silicon valley giants including mark zuckerberg endorse this unique concept. >> all right. see if it works. >> yeah, right. >> in the meantime it's been nice and hot in the daytime, but at night right now it's just perfect. >> it is perfect. didn't get cold in the city tonight. meteorologist sandhya patel is here with the forecast.

sandhya? >> yeah, if you stepped out tonight, dan and kristen, you know it's pleasant out there, still holding on to some of the warm weather. want to show you the sunset 8:34 from our east bay hills camera as the sun was setting. absolutely crystal clear skies. we check out live doppler 7 tonight. there is no fog to speak of. by morning we may see a few patches along the coast line, but it will quickly clear. live doppler 7 tracking the summer monsoon in the desert southwest, some of ma moisture has been spilling over into southern california. over the next few days we'll start to see an inkries in some of the moisture here in the bay area, but that will just add to the stickiness factor. so just in the form of clouds. we're not expecting rain here locally. here's a look at the temperatures. i double-checked these. yes, it's in the 80s from concord to brentwood to vacaville. still some 70s showing up around clear lake and clover dale. yeah, it is still warm out there, a typical summer night where it is definitely warm outside, holding onto the heat from earlier in the day. now, we are in this pattern where it has been breezy. the wind gusts will continue to

remain on the high side, summertime typical pattern 20, 30 miles an hour. but that does bring some concern when the vegetation is so dry. here's a look at one of our concerns. fire danger highest threat between noon and 8:00 p.m. with the dry vegetation. definitely fuel for the fire. wind gusts 10 to 30 miles an hour. any fires that do develop will spread rapidly so want to be aware of your surroundings in the next couple of days. sales force tower downtown san francisco, visibility is good. dry breezy pattern persists. fire concerns remain elevated and gradual cooling into the weekend. tomorrow not going to cool a whoa lot. 60s inland, mainly on the bay 50s. not one of those mornings where you'll need the jacket or sweater. quite comfortable. mid 60s, coast side, breezy tomorrow. 70s right around the bay. we'll get you into the low 90s inland.
