bnb. one firefighter suffered a cut and was taken to the hospital. at this point, they say the cause of this fire is still under investigation. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thanks, amy. investigators are looking into what started a two-alarm fire in berkeley around 10:15 last night at the old ace hardware building at university avenue and walnut street. surrounding buildings have been evacuated and no reports of anybody getting hurt. >> now, a live desk update. >> nine down, four more to go. what could be the final rescue mission at a cave in thailand is under way right now. and this morning, divers rescued the ninth boy. three more boys and their soccer coach are still in the cave. we do want to show you a live look at the hospital in thailand where the rest of the team is recovering. doctors say two boys have pneumonia, two have possible blood infections but the good news is they say the athletes are strong and will recover. >> the governor says a medic and

a lot of low 60s elsewhere until you get to concord and out to brentwood, los gatos, where we're already in the low to mid 70s. some people's air conditioners kept working through the overnight hours. we have a hot forecast coming up. let's see what alexis is watching. >> not a whole lot so far, which is a good thing. you would hope it would be nice and light, just after 4:30 in the morning. some days you would be surprised. jus one vehicle coming our way on westbound 580 on the richmond side of the richmond san rafael bridge. no delays approaching the toll plaza and light volumes on just about all of our drive times. westbound 80 across the bay bridge, just eight, and southbound 101, you're looking great in the green at nine minutes. we'll look at mass transit coming up next. >> thanks. >> president trump announced d.c. federal judge brett kavanaugh as his pick to replace tiring justice anthony kennedy on the supreme court. >> the president is calling kavanaugh a judge's judge.

stephanie ramos live for us outside the supreme court. hi, stephanie. >> hey there, reggie and cres caw. after more than a week of il t . the president did announce his supreme court justice nominee who may have an uphill battle trying to get confirmed. >> president trump in a primetime television event announced judge brett kavanaugh as his second u.s. supreme court nominee. >> mr. president, i am grateful to you and humbled by your confidence in me. >> kavanaugh, a conservative choice, serving key positions in the bush white house. and the independent counsel on ken starr's team. investigating bill clinton. later having second thoughts about whether presidents should be subjected to prosecution and investigations. a stance that could be a big deal if the supreme court ever has to rule on any actions resulting from the russia

investigation. but a major question still lingers. the future of roe v. wade. legalized abortion. kavanaugh highlighting the achievements of the women in his life while also trying to clear up any misconceptions about what he may do to current law. >> a judge must interpret statutes as written and a judge must interpret the constitution as written, informed by history and tradition and precedent. >> activists protesting his nomination on the court steps. >> democratic senators also there. >> president trump did exactly what he said he was going to do. he has appointed someone who will not protect a woman's right to make decisions about her life, her health care, her reproductive freedom. >> kavanaugh is set to meet with senators today. he'll be escorted by vice president mike pence. kavanaugh is already trying to

more than 200 immigrants are at the facility now. protesters have held rallies at the jail over the past few weeks. >> a mother accused of abandoning her child in los angeles has been identified as a walnut creek woman. police say the woman left her young son at a train station on july 4th. officers found him that night, but he wouldn't talk. police arrested webster when she returned to the station the next day. she's now charged with felony child endangerment. neighbors say she was recently evected from her apartment. >> i wouldn't think she would do this to her son. she would come outside and play with him. i didn't see any trouble with her. she was a good mom to him. >> webster's son is safe with a relative. webster is being held on $100,000 bail. >> an effort to name the terminal sfo in honor of ed lee is going to move forward. the airport commission will discuss establishing a committee that will consider the name e was san francisco's first

asian american mayor. the chinese chamber of commerce says lee opened a pathway for business and tourism to asian countries. >> firefighters say they are starting to make some progress on the deadly fire near the oregon border. the fire has killed one person. it's burned over 35,000 acres. and also wiped out dozens of buildings including houses in sisque county. containment is at 30%, but calfire says with the current conditions, crews are up against it. >> so they have a lot of challenges. some erratic winds and the fuels are very ripe to burn. very dry down in the lower elevations. >> meanwhile, the county fire in napa and yolo counties is the largest wildfire in california. it's burned more than 90,000 acres. while firefighters are optimistic they'll have it fully contained by thursday, containment now at 73%, there are still some mandatory evacuations for yolo county and about 100 buildings remain

threatened by the flames. >> you're never more than seven minutes away from my forecast. so let's talk a little more about the temperatures. 60 if you're coming through the ferry building. a little more coolness found around the sunset and sunnyside at 53. most of us about 55 to 57 in san francisco. here's a look at some of the traffic coming across the western span of the bay bridge. if you're driving today, clear conditions and dry conditions. so soon as the sun pops up this morning, going to need to grab the sunglasses. if you're on the ferry, especially south of the bay bridge, that's where the small craft advisory is and where the fastest winds will be, and mass transit, mild this morning to hot this afternoon. places like the east bay valleys where by noon, we're already at 87, and 70 at 8:00 in the morning, and then the mid 90s for most of the afternoon hours, and still about 77 at 8:00. let's head down to the south bay where we start off at 66 in the morning. by 10:00, we're 74. look at that. wall to wall sunshine. pushes us into the mid and upper

80s through the afternoon hours. but a comfortable 72 by the time we get back to 8:00. so i'm watching more humidity, a slight chance of sprinkles, and hopefully keep your fingers crossed, a cooler weekend if you're tired of the heat. we'll turn it over to alexis now. what should people expect? >> pretty quiet roadways. that's obviously a good thing this morning. even the bay bridge toll plaza still looking light, and not much of a stack-up in the cash lanes. we tend to see that happen before they get more of the booths open. maybe a little wait on the left-hand side. right side looks good. and no delays if you're coming up through the middle using fast track lanes. we expect the meetering lights to come on around 5:25 for a normal weekday commute. bart, no delays there. ace one on time today, and normal service, no delays if you're planning on taking san francisco bay ferry. let's check out the central valley if you're driving out of there next. >> thieves steal a u-haul packed

>> this is abc 7 mornings. >> and we're coming up on 4:43 on this tuesday. look at the heat down around palm springs. add insult, they're even more humid than we're going to be. look at the thachance of thunderstorms in the high desert. we'll feel 102 in fresno. 101 in chico. you may see a few high clouds from these thunderstorms come our way, but for the most part, the best chance is going to be there, and then it's going to shift into the high country tomorrow, all the way through about saturday. >> mike, thank you. the fbi making a renewed effort to close two local cold case murders. the bureau and oakland police have released a public service announcement to help solve the murder of brian bole, walking home from a bar early april 10th, 2016, when someone shot him to death. it happened near interstate 580. there's a $30,000 reward for information leading to his

killer. the fbi offering $25,000 reward in the june 2013 murder of aya nakano. his car was hit by another vehicle at the corner of stanford avenue. when he got out to look at the damage, someone in the other car shot and killed him. his family also offering an additional $100,000 reward. >> a santa clara mother is desperate to get her possessions back after someone stole the family's u-haul truck. inside, mementos and her children's artwork. abc 7 news reporter spoke with the woman and has more on how you can help. >> santa clara resident denise hall said she didn't know where to turn, so she called abc 7. >> i have never been so devastated and so disappointed in humanity. >> last week, her family loaded this u-haul because they're updating the flooring in their home. they have to move temporarily. >> we finished loading at 10:00 in the evening, and by that time, my husband and i and also our neighbors were just exhausted. so we locked up the u-haul.

>> on friday, she says, someone stole the truck. >> but what was especially heartbreaking was my children's personal objects like their childhood stuffed animals. >> denise purchased the extra optional insurance offered by u-haul, but that only protects the truck itself and not her items inside. the truck has arizona plates, license number ad-47205. she's filed a police report. >> i think the likelihood of the vehicle being recovered is good. someone is going to notice that a u-haul van has been parked at a specific location for far too long. >> the family had a file cabinet with paperwork in it. >> we believe that the thieves used that to steal our identity. >> they made fraudulent purchases in campbell. she knows it was a mistake to leave the loaded u-haul. she hopes her story warns others and someone spots the loaded

truck. >> san francisco could soon get much more money to tackle its homeless crisis. a new measure appeared to be headed for the november ballot, and they're confident they have more than enough signatures. the measure would raise $300 million a year. the money would come from a half percent gross receipt tax on businesses with more than $50 million a year in revenue. the chamber of commerce is opposed, saying the city already collects $600 million. >> so now you're going to raise another $300 million. on the $600 million that's already paid. but that's only going to be paid by a handful of san francisco taxpayers. you know, people make decisions about where they're going to keep their businesses. >> there are some business organizations that support the measure, b amr of vigousig against it. >> applying for college scholarships can be stressful, but there's a new website started here that's making the application process easier,

faster, is helping student score more money. the founder and ceo says his own frustrating search for scholarship money and mounting student loans inspired the website. >> like 53 different scholars p scholarships but there was no one place to apply for all of them. in all this madness, gave up on scholarships and i'm still in student debt today. >> i received enough to cover my tuition the first year, which would be $14,000. >> since the website's inception, more than $1 million in scholarships have been awarded. the app is going to be launched this fall. >> it's so difficult to pay for college these days, so expensive. >> yeah. mike, you have a couple in college, right? one. one's done and one still in school. >> the other is going, too. >> okay. >> he's going to stay in school past four years. >> oh, no. >> check that out. >> can i borrow some money?

>> sorry, mike. >> thanks. well, if we could harvest that sunshine, we'd all be rich today. if you solar panels,ia can do a little today. san jose, looking at 87 where it's pretty clear and temperatures in the 60s this morning. that mild of a morning will lead to a warm to hot afternoon. becoming cloudy and cooler tonight, and going to try to moderate the heat as we head through the accuweather seven-day forecast. san francisco today, temperatures under total sunshine. mid 60s along the coast, but low to mid 70s as you get towards the bay side. let's head to the east bay. look at these temperatures getting up into the 80. 80 to about 84 degrees. arinda, 86. hercul hercules, 87. widespread 80s in the afternoon hours especially from san mateo southward. redwood city could reach 88. you're always about four degrees warmer than everything else.

as we head to the south bay, a lot of 80s during the day, but we'll spike to near 90 in san jose, and near 100 in morgan hill and gilroy. up in the north bay, we start off at 58, but we're going to end up with temperatures in the low to mid 90s everywhere except for the coast. bodega bay, 65. about a 30-degree microclimate in the north bay today. and our inland east bay neighborhoods, look at this, everybody pushing the mid to upper 90s. so happy to have air conditioning this time of the year. here's a look at what's going on. we'll try to moderate the temperatures, not quite as hot tomorrow, as warm tomorrow morning. we'll be back in the 50s. highs will be back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s for friday and saturday. alexis. >> all right, sounds good. and so far so good for the commute, too. we're looking at relatively light volumes here. this is the south bay. 101 and 880. traffic coming toward us, the inbound side. that typically fills in much faster than the southbound side across the bay area.

no major blocking issues. the only red showing up on our traffic maps, you guessed it, getting out of tracy. westbound 205, 13 miles per hour up to 15 miles per hour once you make it to 5 yathd, and overnight repair work on 580 has wrapped. all lanes are back open. that's the typical crawl getting out of the central valley. >> thank you. microsoft rolling out a new tablet with a cheaper price tag. >> and uber teaming up with electric scooter company lime. >> in today's tech bites, microsoft's new tablet. >> the surface go has a ten-inch screen, windows 10, and 64 gigs of storage. starts at $400, about half the price of microsoft's larger more powerful surface pro. >> snapchat may team up with amazon. there's a hidden code for camera assisted shopping in the latest android app for snapchat. all you have to do is point a camera at the object and get a link to the item on amazon. neither company is talking about it now. uber is getting into the electric scooter business.

been so hap to see boys brought out in ambulances. but that's the way it is here. you can see the enormous relieve among the troops and soldiers behind me. we're still awaiting the 12th ambulance and 13th ambulance carrying the last boy and coach, but the fact is from the thai navy s.e.a.l.s they report they're out of the cave and out of harm's way. nobody thought it was possible. for the first ten days of the search, nobody thought they would even find them. they had lost hope. so many did. and then they found them, but they couldn't figure out a way to get them out because you had 12 boys in there who were weak, emaceinated and didn't know how to swim, and the only way out of the mile and a half long labyrinth cave was through underground passages. they caught them how to swim, how to dive, and today, finally success for the hundreds and thousands of support staff in that mountain right behind me at the mouth of the cave who have been camping out there for so long. it's a tremendous moment here in

thailand. hard to understate. the the whole country coming behind them right now. from what we know, the boys in pretty good shape? >> yeah, they seem to be in pretty good shape. from what we hear from health officials here. the first eight who have been brought out and arrived at the hospital are doing fine. two are suffering from pneumonia, but that's pretty easily treatable. and then we have to see the state of the last four boys who came out plus the coach, george. >> but for now, very good news. all 12 boys plus their coach have been rescued from the cave in thailand. we'll be back on gma in a bit. also tonight, a special edition of "20/20" at 9:00 eastern. have a good day. >> this has been a special report from abc news. >> such good news. >> seems like such a outcome given the odds stacked against these boys. they had been in the cave for 18 days. all of them are now out, including the coach who was with them, who i think is in his mid

that breaking news, moments ago, we got word that every single boy in that thai soccer team has been rescued along with their coach. they are finally out of the cave after being trapped since june 23rd. a total of 18 days. really a remarkable and happy story this morning. >> it came down to the past three days as these divers have gone in and taken these boys
