7:00. let you know how long this is going to hang around coming up. let's get alexis in here for a look at the commute. >> looking pretty good. looking at a little stack-up starting to build in the cash lanes for the bay bridge toll plaza, but that's it. if you're using fast track, no delays and no metering lights. 20, 25 minutes to go before that happens. really, cash lane back up there not too bad, and you can head to the right side of the toll plaza if you want to avoid that completely. the rest of the bridges looking great, too. westbound 580, you're in the green at seven minutes. a 13 minute drive across the san mateo bridge, and the dumbarton bridge also looking great. one new minor issue in for the south bay. we'll check on that next. >> now, breaking news from the abc 7 live desk. >> we want to get back to the breaking news out of thailand. as you heard in an abc news special report, all 12 kids and their soccer coach have been rescued. they're out of the flooded cave in thailand, and divers were using the buddy system to escort each boy out of the cave.

a lead diver was tethered to a boy. they carried an oxygen tank while a rear diver helped them navigate through the underwater passages. it was quite an operation. the whole world was watching. the soccer team is now recovering in the hospital. doctors say two of the boys have pneumonia, two have blood infections, buotherwise, they're okay physically, so that's good news as well. and we just sent out a push alert alerting you of this breaking news. the developments that have been going on throughout the night. you can stay on top of updates like this by simply downloading the abc 7 news app and enabling push alerts. >> such a wonderful story, and unfortunately, this awful story out of mexico. a 27-year-old san francisco woman shot and killed on a trip there. her husband, just a few steps ahead of her when this all happened. they were celebrating their wedding anniversary when she got hit by a stray bullet. the couple had just left a taco

restaurant in an upscale neighborhood in mexico city. abc 7 news reporter lilian kim has that story. >> 27-year-old tatiana married one year ago, and to celebrate, she and her husband james left tuesday for mexico city. the young couple from san francisco was on a quest to dine in as many michelin star restaurants as they could. but as they were leaving a restaurant on saturday, she was shot by a stray bullet. mexican authorities say gunmen on a motorcycle were aiming at a bouncer at a nearby bar when one of their bullets struck her in the head. >> she was telling me how wonderful a time, how safe it was. >> how safe it was. >> her family spoke to us from chicago where she grew up. >> a year ago, july 1st. >> we were selecting flowers for the wedding. today, we're looking at flowers for the funeral. >> her coworkers in san francisco's mission bay are grieving too. she worked as a senior investor relations analyst at nectar

kavanaugh's nomination. >> i have people going through each one of the opinions and most importantly his dissents where he disagreed with the majority on the key issues like abortion, religious liberty, guns, executive power. so we're going to know an enormous amount already about what judge kavanaugh thinks and would do when -- if and when he's confirmed to the court. >> three red state democratic senators will be the ones to watch. they're from north dakota, west virginia, and indiana. states president trump won in the 2016 election. one other big concern is for organizations like planned parenthood. judge kavanaugh stands on women's reproductive rights is a concern for those groups. >> the scotus nominee has not expressed outright opposition to roe v. wade, but he dissented in a case with a teen in detention who sought an abortion last

year. >> since this president came into office, he has gone after our organization, our services, so it's very clear that this now sets up a court that is in favor of his policies. >> cr ste mayor briefly worked with kavanaugh at former san francisco law firm howard rice. he said he would fit comfortably in a conservative majority on the supreme court. >> hard to say how he would vote. my guess would be that roe v. wade will die the death of 1,000 cuts. rather than an outright overruling, at least at first. >> he says if kavanaugh is confirmed, there will likely be more anti-environmental law rulings and kavanaugh would likely vote in favor of presidential power. >> no more reservations. tesla says if you want a model 3, you just order one. >> and fork over $3500. nonrefundable, and you should probably be pretty patient. abc 7 news reporter matt ke e san jose. matt. >> hi, jessica and reggie.

who needs a reservation? all you need is some money and a computer, and you can place your order for a model 3. you can see one here in the showroom. we all remember the lines for the original reservations in march 2016. those people paid a $1,000 deposit for the chance to own a model 3, the least expensive tesla starting at $35,000. here we are more than two years later can according to the website electric, anyone in the u.s. or canada can bypass the reservation process. they say tesla opened up the online configureerator with new pricing and options last month. they also invited all reservation holders to place an order for all configurations except for the standard battery pack which is not planned to enter production until the end of the year. the model 3 design studio should be available to everyone, but they're still going to prioritize orders from reservation holders. stores will get the performance model 3 vehicles by the end of this month. matt keller, abc 7 news.

>> thank you. take a look at your screen. alameda county firefighters worked quickly to put out this brush fire. started after a car caught on fire at northbound 880 at the marina exit around 7:00 last night. crews knocked down the car fire and then put out the flames that spread to the brush. good news, no one was hurt. we have been pretty lucky lately that our winds have calmed down a lot, even though that's allowed it to get really warm. it's also keeping the fires from spreading as rapidly as they could be. never more than seven minutes away from my forecast. look at the 60s throughout the san ramon valley, out towards livermore, and then the 70s. the mid 70s, the tougher sleeping weather in places like pittsburg, antioch and brentwood. 57 in san francisco, the cool spot. pacifically, 52. 54 in novato. 63 in hayward, and san jose, 64. in the hills around los gatos,

73 right now. check out the lack of clouds from the exploratorium camera, as we have it pointed to the west, back towards downtown. yard work, you know, really, you can wait another day when it's not going to be quite as warm and as humid as this afternoon. exercising is going to be warm to hot this afternoon. and we have that small craft advisory on the bay, south of the bay bridge. all the way down across the san mateo bridge and the dumbarton bridge. it starts 11:00 this morning through 9:00 with a west wind gusting up to possibly 30 miles per hour. let's talk about the east bay. we start at 64 at 8:00. wall to wall sunshine. other than maybe a passing high cloud late this afternoon and evening, we're already 70 at 10:00. mid to upper 70s from noon to 4:00. down to a comfortable 65 by 8:00. and for san francisco, most of the day is going to be in the upper 60s. then we'll drop down into the low 60s at 8:00. and 59 at 10:00. now, if you're closer to the bay, get ready for low 70s,

places like the embarcadero center and sales force tower. let's find out about the commute. >> good morning, not many hot spots to talk about so far today. we have one new just very minor issue in san jose. two-car crash on mckee road on ramp to northbound 101. that is not blocking the main line. they did send an ambulance to the scene, but no injuries involved. also looking live at our golden gate bridge camera. pretty start to the day. you can see first light there, but no delays. southbound 101 from the north bay, from marin county, very light volumes as usual for this time of day. we'll look at drive times coming up next. >> thank you. a new report shows the number of hate crimes in california is up. the state attorney general and the state's department of justice just released some of their findings. they show that hate crimes rose more than 17% last year from the year 2016. more than 1,000 hate crimes reported in 2017

in 2016. officials say they jumped in every category including race, religion, and sexual orientation. it comes a month after state authors say california is underreporting hate crimes because they lack adequate policies and training. >> protests expected outside google's annual marketing conference. demonstrators plan to show up. the concern is the new campus will lead to evictions and homelessness. google was not immediately available for comment and did not respond to a previous request for comment about a similar protest. >> one city in northern california is trying to close its wage gap by giving some people $500 a month. >> you're not going to believe this. a new warning when it comes to amazon package thefts. after video shows a delivery driver stealing the package he just dropped off. >> and if you're looking for an

time of year. that's going to make it feel worse. talk about a cooling trend coming up. >> thanks. >> not your usual package thief. an amazon delivery driver in ohio was caught on camera swiping the package he had just delivered. a customer in cleveland says he got a notification saying his package was delivered on saturday, but when he got home, it wasn't there. and then he checked his home security camera, as you see here, and discovered the person who had dropped off the package, confirmed the delivery, then picked the package back up again. >> it might have been a little heavy, but it was a kitchen timer. that's a $10 kitchen timer. if it ends up he did steal it, hopefully he loses his job. >> amazon said the driver is no longer delivering for amazon. company policy requires delivery service partners to conduct background checks of their drivers. >> police on the lookout for four men who wn on a robbery spree at an apple store in fresno. the store was packed when the men wearing hoodies rushed in,

ripped out iphones and laptops. they took 26 items worth 27,000 in just 20 seconds. they believe the robbery could be connected to other store thefts. >> new developments. east bay congressman toured a pleasant hill shelter hosting 25 children who were separated from their parents at the border. according to our media partner, he says the facility has an industrial kitchen, dining areas and classrooms. he and two other congressmen observed two classes in session. one teaching english, the other math. dozens of immigrant children will be released from detention centers and reunited with their parents today. the man said the fact that congress can't pass an immigration reform bill is just a demonstration of how dysfunctional and split the country is right now. it's a political crisis that's been manufactured for political purposes. >> a $3 toll increase on bay area bridges may not happen if one group gets its way. the howard jarvis taxpayers

association is suing the bay area toll authority over the measure 55% of voters approved t toll increase is technically not a fee but a tax, which requires two thirds voter approval to pass. the measure increases bridge tolls by $1 next year, and then again in '22, and then in '25 to pay for transportation projects. >> looking to make a few hundred extra dollars a month? all you have to do is move to stockton. it was once bankrupt. now it's giving 100 residents $500 a month for 18 months. it's a concept called universal basic income and the first time a u.s. city has done this. san francisco, by the way, has also looked into the program. the goal is to create an income floor that no one will fall beneath, possibly reducing poverty. details have not been released about how the city will pick its residents. >> you could see the dockless scooters return to san francisco by the end of the month. 12 companies applied for a city permit under a new law that took

hours, but you can see by 7:00, it starts marching towards the coast. that's what's going to bring us the cooler night. let's talk about this afternoon. widespread in the south bay, once again. a breeze coming off the bay will keep milpitas at 81. 89 in san jose and nearly 100 in morgan hill. even though it will be breezy on the peninsula, 76 in millbrae. 88 in redwood city. most of us in the low to mid 80s. in the 60s along the coast with our fastest breezes. look at this, low to mid 70s in downtown and south san francisco and sausalito. we'll have low to mid 90s through most of our north bay valleys. along the east bay shore, 80s going to be very common, from 80 in oakland to nearly 87 in hercules, and as you move to the east bay valleys, mid to upper 90s. look at the cloud cover coming back, and look at the temperatures back in the mid to upper 50. except for out around antioch in the low to mid 60s. a slight cooling trend, not quite as humid. still a small chance we'll see

one lane taken away on the main line as well. a two-car crash, pretty minor, no injuries, and chp is there, but you're stop and go from the 280/680 merge. sounds like they're getting close to clearing that. the north bay commute starting to fill in. southbound 101 through san rafael looking good in that direction. >> now, breaking news from the abc 7 live desk. >> breaking news we have been following all morning long. the rescue operation in thailand is over. and just half an hour ago, we learned all 12 boys and their coach made it out alive. here's a live look at the hospital in thailand, i believe, where the team is recovering. doctors say two boys have pneumonia, two have possible blood infections but the good news is they say they are athletes, they are strong, and will be okay. the soccer team was exploring the cave on june 23rd when monsoon rains flooded the entrance. navy s.e.a.l.s dove through

narrow winding passages to rescue the boys and their coach one by one. and it will be at least a week before the team is released from the hospital. reggie. >> sadly, not everyone made it out alive. you may remember on friday, a former thai navy s.e.a.l. diver died while trying to save the soccer team. he volunteered to help in the operation. he was in the process of placing air tanks along a possible escape route when he ran out of oxygen. abc news will air a special edition of 20/20 tonight at 9:00 on the thailand cave rescues. >> developing news now. cleanup and an investigtion under way right now after a bar in san francisco's north beach neighborhood caught on fire overnight. >> abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live for us in front of the fiddler's green with a look at the damage there. amy. >> hi, reggie. the building has been red tagged. look behind me. this building has a long history here in san francisco. according to the b.a.r.t. website, this building has been

here since 1901. it survived the 1906 earthquake. here's a look at the fire that didn't burn it to the ground but did do significant damage. firefighters got the call last night just before midnight that the fiddler's green here on columbus at beach here in the north beach neighborhood was on fire. they found that the fire was in between buildings, which is hard to imagine because these buildings ks look like they're touching each other. they found the fire was difficult to get to. >> a lot of the truck companies were in there with axes and ceiling hooks and saws and opening up the walls and ceilings to reveal the fire, then the engine companies would put water on it. >> this building became the fiddler's green in 1991. two people also lived above the bar. they no longer have a home. the fire captain says a total of nine people were displaced. the others were from the buildings on either side of the

morning. that's starting to back up into the maze as well. next traffic update at 5:50. >> the contra costa sheriff's office will stop detaining undocumented immigrants at its jail in richmond. our media partner the east bay times says the department will announce today it's canceling a federal contract with i.c.e. the government pays the sheriff's office $82 per detainee per day. more than 200 immigrants are at the west county detention facility right now. protesters have held rallies at the jail. >> fiefrs are starting to make progress on the deadly fire near the oregon border. the fire has killed one person. it's burned over 35,000 acres and wiped out dozens of buildings including houses in sisque county. containment at 30%, but with the current conditions, crews are up against it. >> so they have a lot of challenges. some erratic winds and the fuels are very ripe to burn.

murder of aya nakano. his car was hit in oakland. when he got out to look at the damage, someone in the other car shot and killed him. his family also offering an additional $100,000 reward. >> believe it or not, this is a bear. i know it doesn't look like one because it's missing all of its fur. it was in such bad shape, was found in a trash bin in butte county. now, many months later, she's well on her way to recovery. first told you about this bear named eve because she was found on christmas eve. so six months ago. she lost all that fur because of mange. eve got emergency medical care in lake tahoe and then she was taken to the fun for animals wildlife center in san diego county. vets removed the dead crusty skin and the new fur is now growing back again. the team still has to decide whether or even if she can be released because apparently she has some skin issues that could last for a long time, but she's looking a lot more bear like now. happy to see her again.

south bay, we're starting in the mid 60s this morning. that warmer start means warmer temperatures this afternoon, from 89 in san jose to about 99 in morgan hill. we have a breeze coming off the bay, so milpitas and sunnyvale only in the low to mid 80s. in the north bay, no breeze to keep you cool today. you start off in the 50s. you end up in the low to mid 90s. one of our biggest spreads today from low to high. bodega bay, only 65 at the coast. inland, we'll start in the 60s, even a few 70s near antioch and brentwood. that's why you're threatening 100 while the rest of us in the mid 90s. tonight's temperatures, better sleeping weather with mid to upper 50s. my seven-day forecast. temperatures will slowly cool through friday and saturday. then sunday and monday, we're pretty close to average. today, one of our warmest days. alexis. >> so far, we haven't had any major issues. just a couple smaller trouble spots in the south bay. let's take you to the fremont area. it does look like the trouble spot is on the northbound side
