minutes away from that forecast. >> hi, everybody. we'll start by taking a look at live doppler 7. you look at the lack of clouds can you think, wow, a cool start this morning. we don't have that deck of clouds keeping our temperatures up. you realize, you step outside and like what happened. the humidity came in. that's why we're in the mid 50s to mid 60s in most neighborhoods at 7:00. even 70s around antioch and brentwood. my 12-hour planner, we're already at our average highs by noon. and by the afternoon hours, yep, warmer than average with 62 at the coast, but 82 to 94 around the bay and inland, and 74 to 84, pretty defietful if not a little warm evening is on the way. we'll look at the accuweather seven-day forecast coming up. >> we're doing okay on the roads so far this morning. we had just past state route 237, vehicle fire on the right shoulder, the fire department is there, and chp is there blocking the two right lanes.

that's starting to cause a bit of a delay south of state route 237. i'm keeping a close eye on that one. san rafael, southbound 101, still looking really light here so far today. no brake lights and really the entire north bay commute is looking good if you're headed south towards the san francisco area. we'll look at decent drive times coming up next. >> now, breaking news from the abc 7 live desk. >> the breaking news out of thailand. a rescue operation we have been following for days, and it's now over. navy s.e.a.l.s say all 12 boys and their soccer coach are now out of a flooded cave. they're doing fine. divers used the buddy system to escort each boy out underwater. a lead diver was tethered to a boy, carrying an oxygen tank for that child, and a rear diver helped them navigate through the tight passages. the soccer team is now recovering the hospital. two may have blood infections. but overall, they are doing

okay. and we just sent a push alert about this. stay on top of updates like this by downloading our abc 7 news app and enabling push alerts. >> a 27-year-old san francisco woman was shot and killed on a trip to mexico. her husband, just a few steps ahead of her when this all happened. tatiana and her husband were celebrating their one-year wedding anniversary at a restaurant on saturday. mexican authorities say gunmen on a motorcycle were aiming at a bouncer at a nearby bar when a stray bullet struck her in the head. her family spoke to abc 7 news from chicago where she grew up. >> a year ago, we were selecting flowers for the wedding. today, we were looking at flowers for the funeral. >> she would give 200%. you know, as a mother, you know, we always say things, but she inspired me to be better. i'd give me life if she could

just come back. >> her body is going to return to the u.s. today. she'll be flown to chicago and that's where she's going to be buried on saturday. >> president trump's pick for the next supreme court justice will begin meeting with the republican party leaders today. brett kavanaugh was once a former clerk to the retiring justice anthony kennedy. now, the tough confirmation battle awaits. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell has said the senate will vote on the president's nominee this fall, but republicans hold a thin majority. several democrats have already announced they will oppose cavanaugh's nomination. >> i have people going through each one of the opinions and most importantly his dissents where he disagreed with the majority on the key issues like abortion, religious liberty, guns, executive power. so we're going to know an enormous amountlrbo whudgeavanaugh if and when he's confirmed to the court.

>> three red state democratic senators will be the ones to watch. they're from north dakota, west virgin virginia, and indiana. those are states president trump won in the 2016 election. speaking about judge kavanaugh's stance on things. one big concern for organizations like planned parenthood is his stance on women's reproductive rights. >> the scotus nominee has not expressed outright opposition to roe v. wade, but he dissented in a case that involved a teen in detention who sought an abortion last year. >> since this president has come into office, he has gone after our organization, our services. so it's very clear that this now sets up a court that is in favor of his policies. >> constitutional lawyer steve mayer briefly worked with kavanaugh at former san francisco law firm howard rice. he said kavanaugh would fit comfortably in a conservative majority on the supreme court. >> hard to say how he would vote. my guess would be that roe v.

the u.s. or canada can bypass the reservation process. tesla opened up the model 3 online configuration. they offered them to place an order for all configurations except for the standard battery pack which is not planned to enter production until the end of the year. starting today, electric says the model 3 design studio should be available to everybody, but tesla is still going to prioritize orders for reservation holders. >> thank you. new developments in the effort to extent b.a.r.t. service to san jose. according to the mercury news, a second lawsuit has been filed over a parking lot impacted near s.a.p. center. the lawsuit alleges vta which managed the projects, failed to adequately plan for lost parking and construction impacts near the venue. prevus a 13ceng garage pe i the final plan. the vta did not respond to comment about the new lawsuit.

the bay starts at 11:00, goes through 9:00. we'll have west winds, so at least they're not running perpendicular to the san mateo, but a little choppy on the water. let's turn it over to alexis and see what's going on for our east bay commuters. >> if you're traveling across the bay bridge, we're back at full volumes after the holiday week last week. we knew that yesterday, but looking pretty typical, back into the maze this morning and those metering lights on at 5:31 today. no further issues as you get past the metering lights the rest of the way to san francisco. walnut creek to dublin looking good. southbound santa rosa to san francisco, under an hour for you, and highway 17, also in the green at 22 minutes. we do have a vehicle fire in milpitas. >> thank you. >> a new report shows the number of hate crimes in california is up. the state attorney general and the state's department of justice just released their findings and showed that hate crimes rose more than 17% last

year. from the year in 2016. more than 1,000 hate crimes reported in the year 2017 comparing that to just 982 in 2016. officials say they jumped in every single major category including race, religion, and sexual orientation. >> voters just approved a toll hike on bay area bridges but now there's a new legal challenge to stop the increase. >> plus, a dangling dare devil recording as he hangs over a pit of molten lava. and now for the rings. all news all morning. >> welcome back. police in georgia have released surveillance video showing a man lurking outside a home where a 71-year-old grandmother was murdered. officials say an intruder stabbed her in neck nearly two weeks ago in the suburb of sandy springs near atlanta. a family friend made the discovery and called 911. police have increased the award for information leading to an arrest to $100,000. >> not your unusual package thief. look at this here. an amazon deliveryman in ohio, he was caught on camera swiping a package that he had just delivered. look at this. a customer in cleveland says that he got a notification saying his package was delivered on saturday, but when he got home, the package wasn't there.

he checked his home security camera and saw this. he discovered the person who dropped off the package confirmed the delivery then picked the package right back up again. >> it might have been a little heavy, but it was just a kitchen timer. a $10 kitchen timer. if he did steal it, hopefully he loses his job. >> amazon says the driver is no longer delivering for amazon. company policy requires delivery service partners to conduct background checks of their drivers. >> that's the wildest thing. >> a $3 toll increase on bay area bridges may not happen if one group gets its way. the taxpayers association is suing the bay area toll authority over the measure 55% of voters approved last month. they're arguing the toll increase is not a fee but is instead a tax. and that's important because if it is a tax, it would require two thirds voter approval to pass. the measure increases bridge tolls by $1 next year, then again in 2022, and then again in 2025.

to mid 70s in downtown and san francisco. low to mid 90s through the north bay valleys. we'll have temperatures in to low to mid 80s. 96 to 99, hot degrees in our east bay valleys. my accuweather seven-day forecast, you can see the cooling trend hitting for wednesday, thursday, and our coolest days will be friday and saturday. here's alexis. >> hey, mike. really the only trouble spot we have been talking about for the last hour or so has been in mill meets, northbound 680, we had a vehicle fire, but looks like that has cleared. the actual fire was off on the right shoulder, but when the emergency crews arrived, they took up the two right lanes. that's cleared from the board, according to chp. hopefully that line of red you're seeing approaching the scene will thin out quickly. we also have a little bit of heavy traffic on northbound 101 from san jose to just south of the 880 merge, but not terrible. you're stop and go at about 39 miles per hour. here you go, this is what things

you are never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. we take a look at the exploratorium, showing you the lack of clouds and all the sunshine you can handle, and temperatures anywhere from 6 to 9 degrees warmer than average. >> thanks. >> police are on the lookout for four men who went on a robbery spree at an apple store in fresno. the store was packed when the men rushed in. they ripped out iphones and laptops. police say they took 26 ite worth $27,000 in 20 seconds. they believe the robbery could be connected to other thefts. not sure why they do that because they have kill switches on those devices and once they leave they're dead.

>> mark desolnar toure toure toe immigrant holding center. he said the facility has an industrial kitchen, dining areas as well as classrooms. he and two other congressmen observed two classes in session. one teaching english, the other math. dozens of immigrant children will be released from detention centers and reunited with their parents today. he said the fact that congress can't pass an immigration reform bill is just a demonstration of how dysfunctional and split the country is right now. it's a political crisis that's been manufactured for political purposes. >> looking to make a few extra $100 a month? all you have to do is move to stockton. it was once bankrupt. now it's giving 100 residents $500 a month for 18 months. it's a concept called universal basic income. and it's the first time a u.s. city has done it. san francisco has looked into that program. the goal is to create an income

pittsburg, discovery bay, you're in low to mid 70s. temperatures by noon under total sunshine, even at the coast, and our average highs, and we still have the rest of the afternoon to go. that's why it's going to be so much warmer than average by 4:00 and back to our average high temperatures as we head through the evening hours. warmer than average here. what's going on with the roads? >> we're starting to ramp up here this morning. and we do have an issue if you're traveling through the oakland area. we have a house fire that has caused international boulevard to be shut down there at 52nd avenue. sound like they're going to need another hour before they wrap that up. plan on delays there. you have to take a detour, and transit routes are detoured through the area as well. not able to make stops in that stretch of international. so keep that in mind this morning. also bay bridge toll plaza, nice and busy here. back into the maze, the lete metering light on at 5:31 this morning. we have a crash reported along the sunol grade. >> and developing news now. cleanup and an investigation

under way right now after a bar in san francisco's north beach neighborhood caught on fire overnight. >> amy hollyfield is in front of fiddler's green with a look at the damage. hi, amy. >> hi, reggie. they have red tagged the building, and it is an old one. look at this one. according to the website, the fiddler's green website, this was built in 1901. it survived the '06 earthquake. now it has been red tagged and it's not just the building impacted. there were two people who lived upstairs above the bar. they have now lost their homes, and people on either side of the bar have been displaced. here's a look at the fire here at columbus and beach street in the north beach neighborhood. firefighters say it appeared to be coming from the walls. they had to rip out the walls to get to it. they got the call just before midnight last night, around 11:50, they say, when they were dispatched here. the bar was open. people were inside. the bartender described for us what happened.

>> i was bar tending downstairs and people were outside. they came in screaming there was a fire. i came outside and looked at the building. the building was on fire from the side and smoke coming out the top, and just got everybody out of the building. and stood there and watched it burn. >> he not only works here. he live s above the bar. he's headed to a friend's house for a place to stay. a total of nine people have been displaced by the fire, including five tourists staying in an airbnb that has smoke damage. no one was hurt except for one firefighter who suffered a cut to his hand. he was taken to the hospital. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you. investigators are looking into what started a two-alarm fire in berkeley. it happened around 10:15 last night at the old ace hardware building at university avenue and walnut street. surrounding buildings got

evacuated. no reports of injuries there. >> now, breaking news from the abc 7 live desk. >> breaking news we have been following all morning. the rescue operation in thailand is now officially over. less than two hours ago, we learned all 12 boys and their coach have made it out alive. i want to show you a live look here at the hospital in thailand where the team is recovering. doctors say two boys have pneumonia, two have possible blood infections, but the good news is they say they're athletes, they're strong, and will be okay. the soccer team was exploring the cave on june 23rd when monsoon rains flooded the entrance. navy s.e.a.l.s dove through narrow winding passages to escort the boys and their coach one by one out of the cave. abc's matt gutman sblexplains t big challenge is the boys didn't know how to swim. >> they taught them how to swim, they taught them how to dive, and today, finally success for the hundreds and thousands of support staff in the mountain behind me at the mouth of the cave who have been camping out there for so long.

it's a tremendous moment here in thailand. hard to understate. >> yeah, really. a tremendous moment. and really good news this morning. it will be at least about a week before the team is released from the hospital. and abc news will air a special edition of "20/20" tonight at 9:00 on the thailand cave rescues and you can find the latest on the efforts. download the app and enable push alerts. there the contra costa county sheriff's office is going to stop detained undocumented immigrants at its jail in richmond. the east bay times says the department will announce today it is canceling a federal contract with i.c.e. the government paid the sheriff's office $82 per detainee per day. more than 200 immigrants are at the west county detention facility right now. protesters have held rallies at that jail over the past few weeks. >> this could be our next supreme court justice. president trump announcing federal judge brett kavanaugh as his pick to replace retiring justice anthony kennedy.

afternoon. mass transit, yeah, pretty comfortable right now. but it's going to be warm to hot at your stations or stops later on today. here's a look at the east bay. this is along the shore. we're waking up to total sunshine. 63 at 8:00. already 71 at 10:00, and then upper 70s to near 80 from about noon all the way through 4:00. a comfortable 66, though, at 8:00. san francisco, these temperatures are about the coastal half, if you will, with the upper 60s. we'll have low to mid 70s on the bay half, and we have one more area to look at, and that would be temperatures in the 80s in the south bay today. in fact, mid 80s by noon, and mid to upper 80s in the afternoon hours. down to about 73 by 8:00. and look at that, wall to wall sunshine. also, as promised, here's alexis. brought you in, busier this week. >> yes, a lot busier. if you're one of the few commuting last week, boy, you were treated to some very light commutes. but no, we're back at full volume here, and i expect that to last the entire week.

we have a new issue in the sunol area. southbound 680, a tough spot to have anything brocking before you get to andrade road. it sounds minor as far as no injuries but two vehicles involved in a crash here. as far as i know, right now, just one lane blocked. one of those vehicles is not able to move on its own, so it sounds like we'll have to get a tow truck, and already that's starting to back up toward 580 if you're leaving the dublin pleasanton area. let's look at a few drive times including that one. westbound 580, tracy to dublin, 1:03. dublin to mission boulevard, that's now in the yellow at 31 mintes. wouldn't be surprised if that changes to red in a few more. northbound 85 between 101 and cupertino, still looking good, in the green at 21 minutes. >> thanks, alexis. >> thieves steal a u-haul packed with a south bay family's possessions, and that was the beginning of their nightmare. >> plus, george clooney rushed to a hospital overnight after a motorcycle accident. the this morning.

it's a bear missing all of her fur. she was found in a trash bin in butte county. now she's well on her way to recovery. we told her she was eve, which she was found six months ago on christmas eve, and she lost all that hair because of mange. she got emergency medical care in lake tahoe, then she got taken to the fund for animals wildlife center in san diego county. that's where they removed the dead crusty skin so the new skin could grow. the team is now assessing when and if she can be released. they would love to put her back in the wild, but she hasongoing issues so they're going to evaluate that. >> who leaves a bear in a trash can. >> i don't know what happened. i'm really glad she was found. >> i'm hoping maybe she was in there trying to heat. >> that's what i thought, but i don't know. who knows. >> good ending, though. >> yeah. >> let's talk about what's going on weather wise. you may have noticed when you step out this morning that it's a little milder. temperatures in the mid 50s to mid 60s. even with a lack of cloud cover

all the way out to the coast this morning, temperatures are running warmer. and that will spring board us to a warm to hot afternoon. tonight will be cloudy can cooler as the sea breeze comes back tha goi t start a moderation of the heat during the afternoon hours through the extended forecast. all right, san francisco, look at this. wall to wall sunshine today. mid 60s on the coast side. low to mid 70s on the bay side. so even san francisco is going to have microclimates. if you're going to the game tonight, same time, same place, hopefully same result because the giants won. 7:15, the first pitch at 67. dropping down to 61. a little breezy by the evening hours. along the east bay, sunshine all day today. look at these temperatures. low to mid 80s in most neighborhoods. now we go over towards the peninsula, and again, wall to wall sunshine. but a little breezy this afternoon. we'll hit 80 in redwood city. that's the exception. most in the mid 70s to low 80s. at the coast, we'll have mid 60s. let's go to south bay where we'll have a wide range of temperatures and all that sunshine.
