>> developing news, fire crews in the south bay kept very busy this afternoon battling two fast-moving fires. good evening, i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm kristen sze. alma daetz has the night off. the first fire broke out just before 2:00 p.m. in morgan hill, burning 40 acres. then about an hour later, another one broke out just south of san jose. >> that's where abc7 news reporter amanda del castillo is live tonight. amanda? >> reporter: dan, kristen, the main road into the santa teresa park is still shut down at this hour. i was told by a cal fire representative just a few moments ago that crews are expected to be here all night long pushing for full containment. at last check the san jose fire department says that the curry fire is 85% contained after it burned 70 acres. >>eporr:ri del favezozens who w fast moving fire scorch the

hillside behind their san jose homes. the curry fire started around 3:00 tuesday afternoon. hours before, he said he had ridden his bike through the county park. he said conditions were fit for a fire. >> i was up there at dry, windy, hot. >> reporter: at least 120 fire personnel responded. assistants and full air support from cal fire also helped stop this tier 2 fire from spreading. a few miles south, sky map 7 shows you where the hail fire burned in morgan hill in the area bordered by live oak avenue and blossom court. that fire destroying three out buildings and killing at least four horses. >> that's my compressor. >> reporter: victor silva estimates he lost thousands of dollars in machinery marred by the fire. he says his loss pales in comparison to the family who lost animals. silva says he watched as the flames tore through this dry

field. he says he took precautions early on, knowing fire could always be a possibility. >> just a week or two weeks ago i just finished clearing it all out. that's why there was no fire over there where my tractors are at. >> reporter: just one practice captain says is necessary to keep the threat of wildfire as low as humanly possible this hot dry summer. >> it's going to be a very dangerous high volume fire season unfortunately. >> reporter: we're back live at the scene of the curry fire. good news here, there were no structures damaged and no reports of any injuries. i'm live outside of the santa teresa county park tonight, amanda del castillo, abc7 news. >> amanda, thank you. the morgan hill brush fire burned so hot it was picked up on the fire temperature satellite. let's get to abc7 meteorologist sandhya patel with a look at conditions. sandhya? >> kristen, conditions are favorable tonight.

joins us live from the embarcadero with the story. kate? >> reporter: well, kristen, kevin manning was thrown from his bike and then he hit his head on the pavement here at the embarcadero on sampson street. of course his friends, his family and coworkers are mourning his loss right now. but they are also seeking justice and improved safety for bike lanes here in the city. pedi cabs were noticeably absent along san francisco's embarconadlyer ao tue fsdeway c shuttling families down the busy bike path. one driver told us many of them took the night off after learning kevin manning passed away after his family took him off life support. >> we obviously never expected it would turnout this way. we were holding out a lot of hope. >> reporter: she is part owner of cab rio taxi. she was on scene after a hit and run driver crashed into kevin's pedi cab on june 27 while he was transporting a family. >> he always had a smile for me.

he had a granddaughter, which would talk about his granddaughter. yeah, he's a really wonderful person, we are really devastated. >> reporter: s.f.p.d. suspects this driver in the honda civic is responsible for the hit and run. >> it looks like the su sperkt went to that lane of traffic and umtly took off. >> kevin's death is preventible. >> reporter: he worked at cab rio taxi and hopes drivers will be more mindful of cyclists and pedi cabs. >> if you're out there in your car, be patient. at the end of the day, you getting wherever you're going, 30 seconds faster, isn't worth somebody else's life. >> reporter: i spoke to supervisor aaron peskin tonight who said his office is working together to get a reward for information on the suspected hit and run driver. he said he's working to get more funding dedicate today transportation and bike lane safety throughout san francisco. but particularly right here along the embarcadero. live in san francisco, i'm kate

trump ended this spring will now return. today i.c.e. officials announced parents with children under the age of 5 will be given ankle bracelet monitors and released from custody in the u.s. it's a program called catch and release. now, president trump has just criticized it saying it allows immigrants to commit crimes. he ended it as part of his zero-tolerance policy. an estimated 80,000 immigrants currently wear the monitors. >> 18 long days after becoming trapped in a flooded cave in thailand, a young soccer team and their coach are free and safe. tonight we are learning more about how this could have all ended in such disaster if not for the quick and heroic work of those daring rescue divers. abc news reporter elizabeth hur has more. >> reporter: an incredible ending to a mission that seemed imssible just days ago. all 12 boys and soccer coach rescued by a team of elite divers guided through this

narrow passage way. now in a hospital isolation unit. their road to recovery beginning as new details emerge about just hockw luhey tey alive. abc news learning the group got out just in the nick of time. abc's matt gut man reports from thailand. >> reporter: after those navy seals and other rescuers got those four boys, coach, and four thai navy seals out of the cave, other rescuers at 80 or 90 thai navy seals were in there picking up all their equipment when suddenly that main pump that had been taking out hundreds of millions of gallons over the past 2 1/2 weeks gave way. and the seals and the other rescuers had to flee for their lives. >> announcer: disaster averted with thailand and the world now rooting for these boy's speedy recovery. as for the coach, he has both been criticized for taking the boys into the cave and praised for keeping them alive. turns out while they were still trapped inside, the boys' parents wrote minimum a letter

a woman who says a passenger sexually assaulted her on a united flight from hong kong to san francisco is suing the airline. court documents say in 2016 the man allegedly groped her several times while she tried to sleep and then touched himself inappropriately. she claims the flight attendant resisted her request to change seats even after she described what happened. the man was acquitted of criminal charges last year. united's response to abc7 news says it doesn't comment on pending litigation.
