beautiful and lively and the people hospitable and gracious. larry and ama. >> kristen, so sad and random. san mateo county called off the search for a missing oregon woman last seen in half moon bay. 23-year-old angela hernandez last texted her sister when she stopped to sleep in the parking lot of the half moon bay safeway friday night. officials in san mateo said today they're following up on a lead. they decided to cancel the search but they want anybody with pictures to come forward. officials say at this point they have no reason to suspect foul play. four people were hurt in a three-car accident in san francisco. it happened just after 11:00 at polk and vallejo. that's in the russian hill neighborhood. you can see the crash involved a porsche, lexus and minivan. not clear how it happened. four people were taken to san francisco general hospital. all are expected to be okay. the atf could be releasing more information about a somewhat secretive police operation that took place in san

we're getting our first look today at the 12 boys and their soccer coach recovering in a hospital in thailand. they were rescued yesterday after 18 days inside a flooded cave. now, we're learning new details about that rescue. abc news reporter, linda lopez has the story. >> reporter: the boys waiting and giving peace signs. their parents, wiping away tears. able to be no closer than six feet away as their sons remained

quarantined. three of the boys have lung infections but all are showing improvement. new video emerging today of the first glimpse of the boys inside the cave during the rescue mission. as divers helped them complete the journey out. rescue teams working their way through dark muddy waters, placing the boys on stretchers to help them emerge from the cave. rescuers positioned a doctor in each of the nine chambers the boys had to travel through. the coach, the last to come out. many calling him a hero for sharing his rations with the team. and keeping them calm through meditation. we learned the mission could have had a very different ending. the main pump which pumped out hundreds of millions of gallons of water failed right after the last member was rescued. the last diver left in the cave. hundreds of air tanks inside. if they waited any longer, instead of swimming along the length of half a football field, the boys would have had to go a

>> vendors are now being turned away. leslie? >> reporter: what a mess out here. this place was supposed to be abuzz with carnival rides going up. concert stages for big name performers. but the xo music festival was x'd out this morning. the xo festival website still has the clock counting down to the three-day music extravaganza scheduled for friday, saturday and sunday. big names like ludacris and vanilla ice coming to perform. the park said they contracted with worldla entertainment and the promoter in december and were paid over $27,000 for the venue. the ceo, joe brink will said it was a go until the promoter failed to provide proof of liability insurance for all of the contractors at the event. they pulled the plug on things this morning out of safety concerns.

and the next round is looking more promising than ever before. in lodi, kurt rivera, abc 7 news. i like that not giving up. >> definitely. now to a big change in medicare. >> michael finney here with a look at exactly what is changing, michael? >> a lot. new medicare cards that are different from any that have ever come before them are being sent to recipients. here to explain the change is the chief medical officer for region 9 of the u.s. centers for medicare and medicaid services, dr. ashley wolf. doctor, i appreciate you joining me here today. >> thank you. >> why do we need a new card? >> according to a law passed in 2015, the medicare access and chip reauthorization ak, cms, the agency that governs medicare is required to remove the social security numbers from existing medicare cards and replace it with a unique and randomly generated number in order to protect our seniors' identity from identity theft.

>> i fought for this for years and years. you're having to live with my wants. show us an example of the card. what looks different and what looks the same? >> just like the old medicare cards, this new card is red, white and blue. you will see the person's name at the top like the old card. you'll see down here when the medicare coverage started and what their coverage includes. all that is the same. what's different is this number right here. it's an alpha numeric number and it replaces the social security number. >> okay. now i've got to ask. my social security number, i can rattle it right off. am i going to have to remember that? >> you don't have to remember this number. we are asking folks that when they receive this card in the mail, they protect it like a credit card. don't show it to anyone or reveal the number to anyone. keep this card with you and bring it to your doctors' appointments. your doctor and maybe the hospital, they will need in new

number in order to process your claim. >> they'll copy it down like an insurance card. >> correct, exactly. >> what do i do with the old card. it's very important. the old card has your social security number. you can't throw it away into the garbage. you need to shred it or cut it up as if it were an old credit card. >> they're coming in the mail. there's nothing anyone needs to do to get the new card. when you receive it in that same mailing will be instructions about how to use this new card and what to do with your old one. >> you talk about you don't need to do anything. that brings up the scam. you can put that down if you want. scammers are calling up saying you want the new card, it cost 50 bucks. >> unfortunately, you're right, michael. we've heard specific issues with people being called where the caller is asking for anywhere from $5 to $50 in order to send out the new card. >> please. >> that's not true. these cards are free.

year. this is a protected natural area that they feel safe and >> fighting to get fed by mom can get aggressive and vocal. >> some of the chicks are newly hatched and others getting ready to leave the nest. it depends on the bird. most of the great egret chicks are already leaving the nest, where some of the snowy egret chicks are a few days old. >> the audubon society started studying the nests in 2005. they convinced the city to close the start during nesting season and not trimming the trees when the shore birds are in residence. three days this month docents are on hand to learn about the birds. the area attracted night heron and other birds to nest here too. 8-year-old gabriella was fascinated by the chicks. >> they were fighting over some food, i think. >> the>> uh-huh.
