oakland police announce a $5,000 reward to find the gunman who opened fire on the street last night. a 3-year-old boy is in the hospital, hit in the head by bullet fragments. thanks for joining us. police are asking witnesses to come forward while tom officials are personally visiting the young shooting victim today. amy hollyfield live with the latest on the investigation. amy? >> reporter: kristen, no arrests have been made, no motives have been given. the deputy chief was here to

offer comfort. he's also asking for help. deputy police chief armstrong brought a teddy bear to the latest victim of oakland violence, a 3-year-old who's recovering at children's hospital. he said he wanted to let the family know his team is working hard to find the person who did this. he also asked anyone with the information about the shooting to work with them. >> we're asking for community members to come forward. children are the most vulnerable part of our community. >> reporter: he said the boy's parents were attending a memorial service when shots were fired. >> we don't believe that the shooting was necessarily connected to the memorial at this time. >> reporter: this shooting the latest to an up tick in violence in oakland. >> the oakland police department has responded to this incident

as well as other violence that has occurred in the last several da days. by increasing our staffing in these areas and we've also redirected resources throughout the city to the areas that have been impacted. >> reporter: we did ask if all of this violence could possibly be gang wars or gang related. he said it's all under investigation. he did say a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for any information that could lead to the arrest of the person who fired that gunshot, that bullet that hit this toddler. breaking news right now in palo alto. sky map 7 shows us the scene over an apparent construction accident. that has left one person dead. you can see the mapping technology pinpoints it's on middlefield road at oregon expressway. it's involving a bobcat vehicle. you can see where this happened in a parking lot at love and

potential for a thunderstorm or two tonight. and from 10:00 to about 2:00 in the morning they get even stronger. you see the yellows, developing? so we've got a chance of thunderstorms with the rain evaporating. that means the lightening hits the ground and they could start a fire and spread rather rapidly. new this morning richmond mayor tom is touring the detention facility. just this week contra costa county announced its ending its partnership with i.c.e. the trump administration said today all eligible small children separated from their families at the u.s.-mexico border have been reunited. 46 children under the age of 5 burr not because of safety concerns. the administration has until july 26th to reunite about 2,000 older children. now to capitol hill and the

tense testimony this morning from the fbi agent who sent text messages critical of president trump. peter struck is on the hot seat or in the hot seat. he came under scrutiny after the justice department inspector general discovered thousands of text messages that he exchanged with an fbi lawyer. republicans claim struck is biased when it comes to the ongoing russia investigation. >> the suggestion that i in some dark chamber of the fbi would somehow cast aside all these procedures, all of these safe guards and somehow be able to do this is astounding to me. and the proposition that is going on, that it might occur in the fbi deeply corrodes what the fbi is in american society, the effectiveness of their mission, and it is deeply destructive. >> struck says he deeply regrets his text messages but that they are nothing more than private political believes.

happening today, london breed's first full day as mayor of san francisco. we know 2:00 this afternoon she's expected to attend an emergency preparedness briefing for first responders. she was sworn in yesterday as the 45th mayor of san francisco and the first african-american female of the city. mayor breed says she's ready to tackle the cities issues such as homelessness and affordable housing. this morning bart's board of directors discussed retrofitting. beginning in february bart will start running trains at 5:00 a.m., an hour later than usual. according to the examiner that's so crews can work on retrofitting. customers we spoke to this morning said traffic is bad enough. they want their bart trains. >> traffic is bad as it is and

president trump and the first lady arrived in london this morning amid protests and fall out from the contentious nato summit. the question now is what headlines will he make on his first official visit to the u.k. as president. more on the controversy he's brewing across europe. >> reporter: wheels down in london and the protesters are already out. president trump choppered staying off the roads, the same roads that protesters are lining tonight.

tomorrow in london authorities expect to see the biggest protest in years. but the president will be conveniently in the countryside. he left brussels with a bang of a free wheeling unscheduled press conference. >> it all came together at the end. >> reporter: first he announced that nato allies were going to commit billions more, $33 billion to be exact. he said nato countries would hit that defense target of 2% of gdp, but he gave no specific time frame. french president emmanuel macron denied anyone is increasing their commitment. he said trump isn't announcing anything new. a statement published yesterday confirms the nato nations confirming that 2% of gdp defense spending by 2024 and that's still the plan. also this morning president trump was asked if he would leave nato. >> i think i probably can, but that's unnecessary and people have stepped up. >> reporter: later he reportedly said if america's demands

weren't meant by 2019 he'd go it alone. >> he may deny it, it's one of the those things. >> reporter: trump's rhetoric nowhere near as aggressive of the russian president as he's been with america's closest allies. just days before his bilateral summit with putin in helsinki. and president trump was asked about the protest, and he said it would be fine if people were looking forward to his visit. but the truth is he'd be out with prime minister theresa may and he p . more into the investigation of ema till. till uzwith a black teen brutally killed in mississippi after he was accused of grabbing a woman in a store. two white men were acquitted in his death but later confessed. the woman who accused till later admitted she lied.

the justice department now says they have new information about the murder, but they won't reveal what that information is. the founder of papa john's has resigned as chairman of the board after apologizing for using a racial slur. forbes reported that john used the n-word during a conference collin may. the board accepted his resignation after he admitted that was true. he formed it 1994 and was the chairman of the company. he stepped down as ceo last year after blaming slow sales growth as the outcry involving football players kneeling during the national anthem. new details about the arrest of the adult star stormy daniels as a strip club in ohio. daniels lawyer says all charges against the porn actress have now been dismissed. police reports say daniels touch

did you see that? you could definitely hear it. a colorado man captured some incredible video. look as we slowed it down, you can see the lightening strike the top of the stree and ark all the way down to the trunk and then it went into the ground and probably branched off from there. tens of thousands of degrees and exploded going flying everywhere. thankfully no one was hurt besides unfortunately the tree. let's take a look at what was going on. until then temperatures running at 69 in half moon bay, and 70s inland already. and look at clear lake. 90 in ucaya and 80. we'll get up to some pretty warm levels. first let's talk about what's going to happen with my

accuweather highlights. high clouds and sunshine and a touch of humidity out there. that'll help bring a sight chance of thunderstorms and trier air will return through the afternoon and into the weekend. 90s there, and 87 in san jose to about 78 and on the peninsula today how about upper 70s to low 80s. and along the coast not quite as breezy. mid-60s for you, and upper 60s in downtown south san francisco. as you head up the north bay coast you can see the cloud cover there. we've got the low to mid-80s across most of the north bay. along the east bay shore quite a spread mere from 70 in richmond, and huercules at 84. as you move to the east bay valleys the only 80 there is about 87 in san ramon. the rest of us i

paying once again to keep that air conditioner running. as we head throughout my 12-hour planner here you can see the increase in clouds. if you wake up tonight to a clap of thunder make sure you have our accuweather app loaded and you can look at live doppler 7 to see where the storm is. it is going to be through the overnight hours we have our best chance. and with a slight bit of mugginess out there it's going to be our warmest also. we're looking at temperatures possibly in the 70s. we've got at the golden gate park this morning aids walk, and we'll see a bit of sunshine break through the clouds. in case you weren't with us at the top of the show, here's a time frame of what's going to happen. and you can see those storms developing all the way southeast of fresno working their way
