sunnier skies by the afternoon and warm inland by 4:00. we'll take a closer look at the accuweather forecast in a few minutes. >> thanks. the chp has re-opened all eastbound lanes of interstate 80 in berkeley after a shooting that left three people hurt. you can see chp officers walking in the middle of the freeway looking for evidence. this happened early this morning near gilman street. the chp tells us the three victims were able to drive themselves to the hospital for now it is unclear what condition they're in. no word on any suspects. the woman last heard from when she was in half moon bay has been found alive. 23-year-old portland resident angela hernandez was found late last night with injuries in monterey county. pictures show her on the rocks r the rescuers around her. a couple found her wheat jeep on the beach near the campground. it had gone over a cliff along % highway 1 south of big sur. a chp helicopter flew hernandez

to a hospital in monterey county with a possible shoulder injury. she told her rescuers that she had been stranded on the cliffside since last friday. rescuers say she used the radiator hose from her car to divert water from the stream to stay hydrated. >> she used that to get water into her system. it goes to show how resilient she was and she was a trooper the whole time and never complained and was just extremely grateful to be alive. hernandez's family is now on their way to the hospital. they tell abc 7 news they are elated that she has been found and is okay. we sent out the alert about the breaking news through the abc 7 news mobile app at 8:28 last night. you can stay on top of news updates through the app and it is free to download. just be sure to enable push alert. california state controller betty ye is recovering after being involved in an accident that shut the posey tube from alameda to oakland. ye, her husband and chp

bodyguard have non-life-threatening injuries from yesterday afternoon. they were rear ended by a man suspected to be under the influence of marijuana. another car was also hit. george suffered major injuries. the chp says the suspect will face dui charges once he's discharged from the hospital. now to new details. a peninsula man posing as a ride share driver to rape women is now under arrest. we are also hearing from a ride share company that says the suspect once drove for them. abc 7 news reporter quinnel bernard spoke to neighbors who kaerpt believe the news. >> they went in there and the next thing we knew, he came out in handcuffs. >> sarah siesta and her husband watched the arrest of orlando vilchez lazo that happened at this apartment house right across from their home in san mateo. lazo raped four women over the past five years while posing as a ride share driver.

>> i knew something was up, but never in a million years i would have thought a four-time rapist would have been right across the street. >> lazo intercepted random women as they left nightclubs and bars in soma mistaking his car for one they ordered. the first assault was in 2013, the last, just this past june. >> these assaults were violent rapes committed by a serial rapist, a sexual deviant predator who was not going to stop until he was caught. >> police say dna evidence linked lazo to the assaults. ride sharing companies reacted quickly, lyft revealing in a statement we have confirmed this person did drive for lyft, but as soon as we were made aware of these horrific and deeply disturbing allegations, we immediately deactivated him. lyft adds it doesn't believe any of the assaults occurred on their platform. uber saying the suspect is not an uber driver and never was. >> someone inside the apartment where lazo was arrested asked us to leave. neighbors now breathing a

collective sigh. >> bad it happened, but good he's off the streets. >> police believe lazo may have sexually assaulted more victims and they ask any survivors or witnesses to come forward and he is being held on $4 million bail. cornell bernard, abc 7 news. uber is now running continuous background checks on its drivers. the company announced it's using a new service that tracks the criminal records of drivers in real time. 25 people have been banned from driving since it began last month. the move comes after a cnn investigation found 103 uber drivers have been accused of sexually assaulting or abusing passengers. new developments with the wildfire in napa and yolo counties. cal fire officials tell us the county fire is 97% contained and barring the unforeseen they expect to have full containment tomorrow. the massive wildfire started two weeks ago and has scorched more than 90,000 acres. it has destroyed 20 structures.

investigators say it was started by an improperly installed electric fence for livestock. time now is 8:05. with aids walk san francisco coming sunday, we're taking a look at bay area organizations who have had a positive impact on the fight against hiv and aids. one local hospital helps people by testing for hiv in the emergency room. abc 7 news anchor eric thomas explains why more doctors would like to see this become routine at every hospital and it's a story you will see only on abc 7 news. >> when allen marker came to alta bay summit, it was to find out why he felt weak and out of breath. the findings from a simple blood test would change his life. >> they told me that i have walking pneumonia. that's why i was there and also on top of that you're hiv-positive. >> reporter: dfor more than a decade the centers for disease control and prevention have recommended that they test for aids in emergency rooms and most do not, and most patients don't seek testing themselves because of the stigma. >> it has driven people away

from conventional testing in some cases because they don't want to be associated with what a positive result means. that's why the emergency room testng program is so important. >> whenever an ambulance brings somebody to alta bay summit medical center and blood is drawn, it is routinely tested for hiv, unless the patient ops out. >> patients can say no. most do not. over the past year, 6300 patients have been tested, more than two dozen found out they were hiv positive who may not have found out otherwise. >> testing a patient takes a serious 30 seconds and it doesn't add time to the nursing work flow. >> patients can be transferred seamlessly into what used to be known as the hospital's east bay aids center for treatment, but the system has been so successful, alta bay summit has changed the name to east bay advanced care because they're broadening the mission to include hepatitis b and c. they've also managed to keep costs down. >> we really do hope to help make this a standard at other

we are now hearing from the 12 thai boys and their soccer coach for the first time since they were rescued earlier this week. hospital officials are also giving updates on the condition of the boys. abc 7 news reporter adrian banker has the story. >> reporter: this morning new images of the 12 boys and their coach in the hospital as we hear from them for the first time since being rescued. >> now i am very fine. i am very thank you for help me. thank you so much. >> 14-year-old adul, the only one who speaks in english, grateful for those who saved them. the team is still seen wearing masks, but in good spirits and drawing and owriting letters an one holds up the victory sign. i asked thailand's public health minister what happens next. >> what kind of treatment are you going to focus on in the 30 days while they're at home recovering? i think that everything is going to be fine. no need to have antibiotics or

something like that. >> what kinds of things psychologically would you be fearful or concerned about? >> the question that is in their mind, why i do something wrong or something like that. >> doctors say they specifically don't want the coach to feel any guilt or shame. back at the cave site this morning, 4,000 volunteers returned for a massive cleanup on the mountain. >> reporter: and we are hearing from the relatives of one of the boys from inside that cave, that they said they had to crawl and actually dig holes to get to safety when the waters rose due to quick-moving rain showers there. we'll hear more stories, i'm sure, but back to the video. the boys were talking about one of their favorite foods that they're looking forward to eating. one child saying he wants steak. another craving one of his favorite thai dishes and another saying he wants the colonel's favorite, kfc,ed adrienne banke.

you typically go to the mechanic or the dealer when you have a problem with your vehicle, but can you get your car repaired without having to go to the repair shop? 7 on your side's michael finney has the answer. >> reporter: look under the hood of many new cars and it's clear that current car technology is based more on computers than combustion. and add to that around 70% of car brands now offer some kind of wireless data connection. many of them are able to send over the air or ota updates for things like adding satellite radio channels or updating

navigation maps. >> tesla's recent over the air update made an improvement to the car's braking system. although the way this adjustment was made was unique, many vehicles today need repairs especially when they're involved in a safety recall. every year automakers and the federal government issue hundreds of recalls and because one in four recalled vehicles on the road has not been fixed, there are likely millions of car owners who may not even realize their vehicles need repairs. so could over the air updates be the future of car repair? >> although cars are becoming computers on wheels, there's still a lot of hardware and those things can be updated over the air, but when it comes to hardware stuff, think about it, suspension, springs, transmissions. a lot of that hardware you will still have to bring back to the dollar when you need an update. >> reporter: consumer reports says the prospect of this technology could be pretty

great. being able to receive an over the air update that would not require you to bring your car into a dealership could save owners time and automakers money. so how far off is this scenario? >> several automakers already have this capability and more are on the way, but there are risks because while they can update your car to make it better, they can also potentially have a mistake. they need to clearly communicate these changes to the drivers because if something changes in the way you use your car and you need to understand that. >> i'm michael finney, 7 on your side. >> you can check to see if your car has had recalls online by using consumer reports recall tracker tool into your vehicle's year, make and model and get information on how to get your car fixed for free. we put a link on our website, abc 7 news.com. time now 8:16. let's talk about one of the coolest things you can do this summer. kids and adults are going to the library to learn how to design and print 3d objects. as you're about to see the librarians themselves have

become some tech-savvy teachers. abc 7 news reporter david louie shows us what the buzz is all about. >> reporter: that's a familiar sound these days at the 12 libraries in the san mateo library network. it's a 3d printer creating objects created out of biodegradeable plastic. youngsters are riveted as they watch projects take place layer by layer. they're teaching digital literacy. the librarian finds herself teaching technology to patrons of all ages. >> it will start printing in a second. >> reporter: each of the libraries has two 3d printers available for free. 12-year-old luke diago wants to make something. >> probably some -- something i like like little figures to put on my desk. >> reporter: people can produce a wide range of objects. >> the kids pick this stuff up really quickly, and -- luke's like, yes, we do, but to have that sort of bridge, right?

they can show the grown-ups a thing or two and it's special, too. >> they caught of eye of pauline and she collects penguins after getting design help. >> the library is all about lifelong learning and i am really a proponent of that and it's anything to get the kids and the community involved in new technology and new learning and a new concept, you know? it's great. >> her design was put on an sd card to get started and now it's a waiting game. one hour for the printer to do its work. >> all of this is very high tech until you get to the very last step. to remuch yoove your finished p you need an old-fashioned spatula. the result was worth it. pauline needs to paint some eyes. in san carlos, david louie, abc 7 news. complicated projects might have to be spread out over several days to let others share printers and there are 12 libraries in san mateo county. now your accuweather with

drew tuma. >> we have a lot of cloud cover early on on our saturday. live doppler 7 along with the satellite and you see the gray shading on your screen and that is the low cloud cov to start out the weekend. we do have a couple of issues in terms of visibility. the good news, the visibility is improving in the north bay and petaluma and along the coast, half moon bay, and the fog is dense right now and the visibility is down to a mile. we'll take you to the south bay right now. good morning, san jose, and we have a canopy of cloud cover right overhead. this is a similar picture across the north bay and across san francisco at this hour, as well. >> temperature, wise where we have the cloud cover, we're holding in the 50s and 56 with the current number and away from the coast inland and brentwood at 72 degrees and they're at 61 right now at fremont. winds, not a huge issue at the moment and really light across the region and probably the only exception through the delta and you see it gusting to 23 and we do anticipate these winds to increase through the coming hours. future tracker wind gusts as it

gets you into 4:00 or 5:00 in the evening and we'll likely see those winds gusting 10 to 20 miles an hour into the afternoon. the bigger picture and live doppler 7 along with satellite and it's a calm, quiet picture across california and you can see a few showers moving, and high pressure is moving in and what that will do today and tomorrow afternoon will give us sunshine and pretty comfortable temperatureses. later today we'll see sunshine away from the coast and we'll call it a blend of sun and clouds and 56 the high in san francisco. clouds in oakland and we'll get sunshine in the afternoon and up to 72. 82, the high in san jossy and 82 in santa rosa. inland will warm and not as high as we were last week and upper 80s and that breeze will pick up in the afternoon and 10 to 20 miles an hour. hitting the beach, we have a lot of cloud cover and the great start and we get sunshine in the afternoon and it will be breezy along the coast and the uv index is running high. don't forget the sunscreen, 58 the current ocean temperature so

dare to dip your toes in there. the bay bridge series. 61 degrees and grab the hoodie and grab the jacket. it will be cool and breezy. fairly cloudy skies and the temperature cooling off to 58 degrees in san francisco. the aids walk san francisco tomorrow, a very popular-looking sky for people who will be out and about walking early on in the morning. a lot of cloud cover. it will be cool. 56 degrees. by 10:00 we'll see the temperature up to 58. we should see more in the way of sunshine and by 2:00 it's breezy and 61 degrees. the accuweather forecas will show you today it's fog to sun out there. we'll do it again on sunday and maybe turn the temperature up a degree or two inland. some minor warming here on monday and then we'll have the typical summer spread tuesday and into wednesday and of course, thursday and friday we'll really warm up inland and you can track the temperatures through the weekend and pretty comfortable today and tomorrow. >> a pleasant weekend and not

we're off to a cool start on this saturday morning. here's meteorologist drew tuma. >> hi, chris. we're seeing improving conditions at this hour in terms of the fog. visibility is on the rise. half moon bay was down to a mile and up to three miles right now. the folg it is lifting this morning. right now in the 50s and 60s around the bay shoreline. our warmest spot is at 72 for brentwood. outside we go, you can see alcatraz draped in cloud cover, and we will see the 12-hour day planner with coastal drizzle and sunnier skies do prevail with the warmest skies going into the 90s and how the second half of your weekend is shaking up in a few minutes. >> drew, thanks. president trump is two days away from his historic sitdown with vladimir putin. mr. trump says he will not cancel that summit even after yesterday's indictment of 12 russian intelligence officers. abc news chief justice correspondent pierre thomas has the details.

>> just days before the president is set to meet with vladimir putin. 12 members of russian intelligence indicted for meddling during the last presidential campaign, an operation u.s. intelligence officials say was authorized by putin himself. the new indictment claims the russian intelligence officers hacked the clinton campaign. the dnc and e-mails to the clinton campaign chairman john podesta. >> there was one unit that engaged in active cyber operations by stealing information, and a different unit that was responsible for disseminating the stolen information. >> russian command unit 26165 in charge of stealing information, headquartered in this building in moscow, and 18 miles away, here was unit 74455, allegedly weaponized the information, posting online including through wikileaks, damaging information on hillary clinton and democrats just three days before the democratic national convention.

one example in the indictment suggesting they appeared to step up their attacks on clinton on the same day as this appeal from candidate trump. >> russia, if you're listening, i hope you are able to find the 30,000 e-mails that are missing. >> reporter: that very day, according to the indict, the russian con spspirators attempt to hack an e-mail account used by clinton's personal office. guccifer 2.0 was close to someone in the trump campaign believed to be roger stone writing, do you find anything interesting in the docs i posted and then, please, tell me if i can help you anyhow. >> stone himself was not indicted. he told abc news that he is the person mentioned in the indictment, but he insists he's done nothing wrong. any objective person who will read that exchange will see that it's benign and it's innocuous.

pierre thomas, abc news, washington. this morning president trump is spending the weekend at his golf club in scotland, but yesterday a protester managed to somehow parachute above the hotel just minutes after the president arrived. the person was carrying a banner and circled several times before flying off. he is said to be with the environmental group greenpeace. president trump announced last year he was pulling the united states out of the landmark paris climate change agreement. are you still hoping oprah will run for president? a choir overseas had something to sing about. ♪ ♪ ♪ happy day ♪ o, happy day ♪ o, happy day >> the group wheeled around a large figure of the media mogul in a box that says oprah for president. at the bottom of the box it says, quote, in case of emergency break glass. the stunt was organized by an online gambling site. the site says a recent survey

reveals 71% of brits want to see oprah run for president in 2020 against president trump. it's been a summer bummer for lots of families in downtown san jose. the popular fountains at plaza of cesar chavez are turned off. >> the usual sounds and sights of kids splashing through the large surges of water have been replaced by silence. >> when it's hot out here and you want to come out and hang out in the park it's somewhat unwelcoming without the fountains. >> the fountains malfunctioned and the shutdown happened last winter. >> we waited for residents and visitors to be able to enjoy the holidays in downtown and once we were able to get into the vault we then had to procure all of our equipment. >> evan mandel said the city has had plenty of time to get the fountains flowing. >> it should have been done a month ago. i don't know why they couldn't test it at the end of the winter

even and say okay, summer's coming, we need to prepare for this. >> the city said testing should come soon so visitors can come back to playing in the fountains before summer's up. >> can you please turn on the fountains? >> they said it's waiting on pg&e workers to re-energize the volts here and once that happens the city says it's hoping to bring back the fun and the fountains flowing in san jose. abc 7 news. the proposal to split california into three states has ignited a legal battle. proposition 9 which would divide california has qualified for the november ballot, but a group led by the planning and conservation league is suing to get it yanked. court documents believe there will be a big legal battle. supporters of the measure think citizens should vote first and then fight it out in court. opponent, however, believe the court fight should come before a possible vote. the state supreme court is

expected to take up the measure next week. team now 8:35. a bizarre road rage incident in los angeles was caught on camera. take a look. you can see the driver of an suv take off the door of a toyota prius. witnesses say the drivers were in some sort of argument and things escalated rather quickly. >> i heard a bunch of cars honking and screeching. i step outside, and i look over there and there's a car driving off with another car's door stuck to it and some guy chasing it and kicking and punching the car. >> no one was hurt during the confrontation. police are investigating and it is not clear what led up to the drivers getting into the argument. wells fargo says it has found even more customers that it overcharged. the san francisco-based bank announced it is setting aside another $285 million in refunds. that money will be going to a foreign exchange and wealth management client. the bank has been under pressure because of multiple consumer

scandals. two years ago it was revealed that the company had faked accounts to meet sales targets. happening today in san francisco, leaders are expected to announce when non-citizens can register to vote in the upcoming school board elections. voters approved a measure last month to allow non-citizen residents to vote for members of the board of education. residents must live in the city and be at least 18 years old and be the parent or legal guardian of a child in the san francisco unified school district. san francisco is the first city in california to allow non-citizens to vote in local
