drink. supervisors say they are working on putting an exception into the proposed legislation. here is the picture that inspired this movement. a sea turtle was seen with a straw stuck in its nose and now there is a push around the world for biodegradable or reusable strauss or in san francisco to just flat out ban plastic straws. they do think -- we did talk to people about what they think of this and they think that people will adjust. >> when they first change it you're like i don't like it but once you get used to the change everyone will fall into it and just be fine knowing that it's helping the environment. >> reporter: if this passes in san francisco, the ban would go into effect next year. today, at noon, environmental advocates will hold a rally here to support this ordinance. they will be here on the steps of city hall. that again will be today at noon. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news.

the bar passenger seen on video smoking what appears to be meth on the train is now in jail, but it's not for drug use. bart police identified the man as 42-year-old tracy daniels of oakland. many riders complained of being exposed to dangerous secondhand smoke. officers arrested daniels for an outstanding warrant and found him after getting a call from an oakland resident who reported daniels harassing merchants near the bart station me was wanted for being an accessory to a crime, which is a felony. it's unclear how long he will be in jail. a peninsula man accused of posing as a ride share driver to rape women is held on $4 million bail. 37-year-old orlando latzo was arrested in san mateo. san francisco police say that latzo raped four women over five years and allegedly intercepted random women as they left night clubs and bars in sonoma mistaking his car for the one that they had ordered and the first assault was back in 2013.

the most recent was last month. lyft says latzo did drive for them but the company deactivated him. >> al alameda firefighter is expected to have to undergo more surgeries after a dog attacked him at the scene of a fire. a pit bull bit john whiting in the face on saturday. he had helped reses cue two people and 18 dogs from a house fire in unincorporated san leandro. he was talking to one of the victims when her dog bit him. witnesses shared video of the pit bull before the incident. whiting underwent the first of several surgeries yesterday. the sheriff's office is investigating possible animal neglect and cruelty and charges involving that attack. fire crews will try again today to recover the body of a firefighter killed while battling a wildfire near yosemite national park. they think his bulldozer stumbled down a canyon while he

was cutting away vegetation on saturday. officials say varney's body is in steep terrain and conditions are too dangerous for crews to get close. the fire is burning on the park's western edge, scorched six square miles of forest. some rural communities are affected. the chp rescued a hiker. the agency shared this facebook video from a helicopter near the blue ridge trail in napa. another hiker called for help after seeing a woman in severe distress. that person helped paramedics carry the woman to the helicopter, which then transported her to a nearby resort to get treatment. the chp reminding hikers to bring plenty of water and to hydrate before you leave. good morning. time now 4:36 a.m. live doppler 7 and satellite showing you a summer morning at hand on this monday. a lot of cloud cover overhead for the majority of the region. temperature wise widespread 50s

>> yeah. >> the manager called 191 after tensions escalated and chicago police arrived and ultimately asked hudson to leave the store. in addition to the apology cvs has reassigned the employees involved while the company investigates. a cave diver who helped rescue 12 young soccer players says he may sue elon musk for smearing him. musk had offered a mini sub to help rescue the soccer team that was trapped in a cave and one of the divers called musk's sub a pr stunt and wouldn't have made musk replied on twitter he never saw the diver at the rescue site and then musk referred to him as a pedo, short for pedophile. the diver said he was astonished and angry at the attack. musk has deleted the tweets. california democratic party leaders met in oakland over the weekend and sent a message to dianne feinstein, your services are no longer needed. the party passed up endorsing dianne feinstein in her quest

for a fifth term in theep u.s.o implications. >> reporter: months away from the november elections and the race for u.s. senate is heating up. the california democratic party opted to endorse kevin deleon over dianne feinstein. >> the vast majority of californian without question know the senior senator because she's been the incumbent over a quarter of a century. we have a real opportunity to contrast our values, our accomplishments and vision for the state of california. >> reporter: the board ended up backing deleon with 65% of the vote after meeting saturday in oakland. >> we want someone who is going to be in the united states senate standing up for immigrants, standing up for the lbgt community, standing up for people of color. very strident and forceful way. >> reporter: both candidates failed to secure the party's backing ahead of the primary by not capturing the 60% of votes needed. deleon faces an uphill battle to unseat feinstein. the statement by the feinstein

good morning. 4:52 a.m. your 12-hour planner later today. clouds around the coast and bay, we'll have clearing skies. by 4:00 it will be a warm afternoon. most spots away from the coast in the 80s and in the 90s. jessica? >> drew, thanks. celebrations turned violent in paris as some fans threw flairs at police after france took home its second world cup title. thousands partied in the street after games yesterday and dozens of police officers showed up in riot gear. polices even used water cannons on fans. it is unclear if there were any arrests or it was a lot different earlier in the afternoon, though, as the roar of excited soccer fans filled the streets of paris as the sun set, the arc was lit up in french colors.

the crowd roared as fireworks filled the skies and images of the player were projected on les.r eap the escape happened saturday at the auto bon zoo. a 3-year-old jaguar went on a deadly rampage. five alpaca, two foxes and one emu were killed. and an injured fox continues to be monitored. it's unclear how the jaguar escaped. zoo officials say inspections found the roof was compromised but human error was not a factor. speaking about animals, a whale swimming free after getting snagged in shark netting off australia's gold coast. i want to show you this, video of the harrowing ordeal as marine animal release teams tried to set the animal free. they say the whale broke through and swam about a quarter of a mile before it got tangled and could no longer swim. you can see it here in the video turning over and over again trying to break free.
