live where you live, this is abc 7 news. >> he stood there like a little wet noodle, like a little fan boy. i mean -- >> not mincing words, the former republican governor of california, arnold schwarzenegger among members of the gop slamming president trump tonight. good evening, i'm dan ashley, and i'm ama daetz. he has joined a chorus of republicans and democrats openly criticizing the helsinki summit with russian president vladimir putin. >> lilian kim is here with the story. lilian? >> dan and ama, many are still trying to make sense of the words uttered by the president today. during the 45-minute news conference, mr. trump questioned his own intelligence officials and praised vladimir putin. president trump is back in the united states after an eventful trip to helsinki, where he apparently sided with russian president vladimir putin over russian interference in the u.s.

presidential election. >> so i have great confidence in my intelligence people, but i will tell you that president putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today. >> san francisco resident and trump donor scott robertson wasn't fazed by the president's remarks. he said he liked what the president had to say. >> russia is not our enemy. we're not at war with russia. why wouldn't we want to get along with russia? >> but the overwhelming response was outrage. the criticism came from solid trump allies like newt gingrich to even the president's favorite news channel. >> that's what made his performance disgusting. i'm sorry, that's the way i feel. it's not a right or left thing, it's just wrong. >> i think the murmurs from neil cav vu cavutos and folks at fox news is interesting. if those murmurs become loud shout, you could see this being this watershed moment that takes down the presidency.

>> the fact that this t president's statements are at odds with the rest of his administration brought up the question many have long been wondering, does russia have something on mr. trump. >> i had heard that we allegedly collected compromising materials on mr. trump when he came to moscow. respected colleagues, when mr. trump came to moscow, i didn't even know he was there. >> the president was reportedly in a foul mood on air force one during the flight back home as it became clear that the criticism over his statements was mounting. ama? >> lilian, thank you so much. new details tonight. a man accused of posing as a ride share driver and raping women in san francisco was in the u.s. illegally. that's according to i.c.e. federal immigration officials say orlando vilchez lazo came to the bay area from peru. san francisco police say lazo raped four women over the past five years. he is accused of intercepting women who mistook his car for one they ordered. lazo did at one time drive for lyft. he is set to be arraigned tomorrow. have been new reports of

shots fired at a southern california park where a father was killed while camping with his two daughters. the los angeles county sheriff says they have responded to two reports of shots fired near malibu creek state park in the last week or so. in june, tristan beaudette was fatally shot in the head inside his tent while he was camping with his 2 and 4-year-old daughters. he had been planning to move his family to the bay area. an alameda county battalion chief is still recovering from a pit bull mauling over the weekend. chief john whiting was responding to a house fire when the dog attacked him. carlos salcedo has the latest on the investigation. >> kato the pit bull remains under quarantine while officials determine what to do with the pet now that they've shifted the case to a vicious dog investigation. >> that ultimately determines what course of action we'll take with the dog, whether we will return the dog to the owner or whether the dog will ultimately can lead up to euthanasia.

>> kato viciously attacked alameda county fire battalion chief john whiting saturday morning after he had responded to a house fire in unincorporated san leandro. there were 20 dogs inside at the time telephone fire, two of them lost in the blaze. whiting was about to interview a 15-year-old fire victim who had been rescued when the leashed pit bull bit him in the face, causing severe injuries. whiting's family and some colleagues at his bedside at stanford hospital. >> it made me feel better actually hearing him speak, seeing that his pain level was down. >> the road to recovery will be a long one. flow is the question of what to do with the remaining 17 dogs. the fire victims were in violation of a county ordinance that allows residents to have only two dogs. >> any time you have a lot of dogs and you're not complying within the law, you open yourself up to extra scrutiny. >> the residents could face a citation, but everyone agrees the focus right now should be on whiting. in alameda county, carlos salcedo, abc news.

deadly wildfire burning near yourself yosemite national park doubled in size last night. cal fire reports the ferguson fire is just over 9,000 acres and only 2% contained. the main entry to yosemite at highway 140 is still closed. so far no structures have been destroyed, but more than 100 are threatened. one firefighter, braden varney, was killed on saturday when his bulldoze r rolled over. firefighters and others came out to show their respect. he was 36 years old, married with two children. it's an amazing story of survival. a 23-year-old woman drove off a 250-foot cliff near big sur after she swerved to avoid hitting an animal. she spent the next seven days stranded. you can see just how steep and rocky that shoreline is. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo has more on this

miraculous story. >> 23-year-old angela hernandez is finally sharing her story about being sent over a california cliff. these pictures posted to her public facebook page show her injuries. angela was on the way to southern california when she went missing on friday, july 6th. surveillance video later recovered shows her in monterey county that morning. the sheriff's office was contacted after a cell phone ping put angela near the carmel highlands area, but deputies say an early search didn't show any obvious signs of struggle. >> if you're driving, you're not going to see. you would have to get out and physically look down there. and even then, it's really hard to find, to see something like that. >> on facebook, angela described being stranded so close to safety. she said i could see cars driving across the cliff and felt like if i could yell just loud enough, that one could hear or see me, that's all it would take to make it back to my family. just one person noticing me. >> i think she just got it into

her mind i am not going to die out here. and i think she had a little help from god. i think somebody was with her. >> sheriff steve bernall says that same higher power put angela's rescuers in the right place at the right time. an area without cell service. beyond that, he says the couple who found her initially had plans to go surfing, but settled for a hike on the beach. angela described that moment on facebook. when i sat up, i saw a woman walking across the shore. i thought she was a dream. i had a few just like this during the past few days. i screamed. among other injuries, angela says that she suffered a brain hemorrhage, a collapsed lung, fractures to her ribs as well as some intense sunburns. in salinas, i'm amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. >> and angela hernandez's sister isabel set up a gofundme page to support her sister's recovery. you can find a link at abc7news.com. a mother and her son had to be airlifted out of mix canyon in a remote area of solano

county this afternoon. the chp says the pair had been stranded since 8:00 a.m. the woman called 911 when she found an area. they were both taken to the hospital for heat-related symptoms. a roaming mountain lion forced officers to put a neighborhood in san mateo on lockdown for about six hours today. it happened near virginia avenue and jackson street. people living in 800 homes were ordered to stay inside. neighbors say the mountain lion didn't act aggressively, but all that effort was launched to find it and relocate it. >> we were sitting in our car, and officers were coming, you know, across the street, guns drawn. and it was really pretty amazing to see that. >> officers founder able to tra this young female safely. it was relocated to a more rural spot in the area. >> everybody a little more comfortable. >> yeah. stay with us. going beyond growing, one east bay city has okayed a new way of

new video shows the moment a lava bomb struck a tour boat off the coast of hawaii's big island. that is scary. nearly two dozen people viewing the kilauea lava flow were hurt when flying chunks of molten rocks hit their tour boat. a lava bomb punched a hole through the roof. 13 passengers were taken to the hospital by ambulance. one suffered a broken leg. the other suffered minor injuries, including steam burns. passengers on another boat watched it all happen. >> it just exploded straight out at the boat. we could hear the rocks hit the boat and the people yelling. >> we saw where a bunch of steam and the rocks and stuff flying. and a lot of it landed inside the boat, and some large pieces landed on top of the boat. >> hawaii's kilauea volcano erupted in early may, and as of sunday, eruptions were still happening.

a big night for the east bay city of pittsburg. for the first time that. >> approved a commercial cannabis permit. as abc 7 reporter kate larsen explains, the next marijuana-based lotion or possession could be made legally and local. >> in this nondescript warehouse in an industrial park in the heart of pittsburg, manufacturers will begin manufacturing a wide array of can nice-based products this fall. >> it's basically topical creams and ointments and lotions and some ingestible products that would be categorized as dietary supplements. >> this is the ceo of biozone that has manufactured this same type of flocks pittsburg without cannabis since 1992. he is also the ceo of canyon laboratories which won its permit with the majority vote at city council. >> there is one nay and four yeah. this item moves forward. >> the city was very opposed to doing this. there was a misconception on what type of business we were running. >> but canyon laboratories will

be processing cannabis oils, not actual plants or buds. then canyon will distribute the products outside of pittsburgh to various dispensaries. >> i think it's an excellent first step for any city to consider. >> this is the chancellor of a cannabis college. she says the city of pittsburg stands to gain a lot through canyon laboratories. >> we have an opportunity to really expand on the ability to regulate and tax those activities. >> pittsburg negotiated a sliding tax scale. if canyon laboratories grosses $1 million, for example, the city would get half a million. kate larsen, abc 7 news. santa clara voters will ask voters rather this november to decide whether to tax recreational cannabis. the city council voted unanimously late today to put the cannabis business tax on the ballot. the tax could generate more than two million in revenue annually for the city. recreational cannabis is not yet legal in santa clara, but the city is working to have rules in place when that day comes. san francisco could soon ban

plastic straws. abc 7 news was at san francisco city hall where a rally was held today in support of that measure. supervisors are considering a ban that also includes other plastic products like coffee stirrers and toxic chemicals in food containers. people have been voting throughout the day here on abc 7. should san francisco ban plastic straws? well, here are the results on your screen. 80% say yes. amazon prime day may have been a little too popular. the app and website crashed at kickoff for some customers today. instead of deals, many people saw dogs. the tech giant posts photos of the animals with its error messages. amazon says high demand caused the outage, and they have since been fixed. the made-up holiday is meant to lure customers to the site with discounts. it ends tomorrow night at midnight. the dogs are cute, though. on to the weather forecast. it's going to steam up a bit. >> spencer is here with the latest on that. >> it is going to steam up,

the bay bridge. we will have some fog at the coast and bay during the overnight hours. very warm pattern will be with us this week for the remainder of the week. and it's going to turn muggy inland and hot thursday and friday as we have a couple days of elevated humidity. here the forecast animation starting at midnight. notice during the overnight hours, we'll see the fog pushing out locally across the bay. it probably will not push very far inland. it will burn back to the coastline. we'll have sunny skies tomorrow for most of the bay over the bay and inland with some areas of fog lingering at the coastline. and overnight, it will be fairly mild, low temperatures mainly mid- to upper 50s. tomorrow is going to be a very warm day in many locations. down the south bay, we'll see mainly upper 80s to mid-90s. about 88 at san jose to 94 at morgan hill. on the peninsula, it will be warm as well with highs in the low to mid-80s. around 86 at redwood city. 38 palt 83 at palo alto. downtown san francisco, we'll have a high of about 72 degrees tomorrow. up in the north bay, a wide
