serious crash in the fremont area, southbound 880, this is just right around stevenson boulevard. initially sounded like a three-car crash in the left lane and then we had four more vehicles unfortunately become involved as well. seven total. it does sound like someone has some pretty serious injuries, although we have not confirmed that. the two left lanes blocked and that is starting to stack up fairly quickly. if you want to use some surface streets to get around that and reconnect with southbound 880 via auto mall parkway that will save you time. everybody else fairly quiet. bay bridge toll plaza metering lights around 5:32 this morning. next traffic update around 6:10. san jose police investigating a shooting after the victim was dropped off at a hospital. police say the 21-year-old man was initially taken to o'connor hospital before valley medical center with life-threatening injuries. investigators are interviewing family members who showed up with the victim overnight. they believe the shooting happened somewhere off julian

street north of san jose. police are asking for anyone who may have seen what happened to give them a call. six uc berkley police are expected to fight back for lying what they did on the job. >> they got fired for reportedly sleeping and hanging out instead of working. amy hollyfield live with more on this case. amy? >> hi, good morning, reggie. the decision to fire them was upheld, but this isn't over with yet. according to our media partner "the bay area news group" the six officers will now take this to arbitration. the police chief decided to fire them after accusing them of hanging out and sleeping in the math library during their midnight shift after saying they were checking on buildings. the news group reports there was a hearing and her decision was upheld. the officers have not been identified and the lawyer did not return a call from the reporter neither did the police chief. this is a large termination for

a small department. six officers being fired from a department of 40. live in berkley, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you. new developments involving a man accused of a violent purse snatching now being charged with murder. prosecutors filed the charge against 29-year-old oto hallafi and police say he knocked 93-year-old ann peterson to the ground during a robbery in may. she died last month. he's charged with elder abuse resulting in death. a look here at your screens, looking at video of a salvation army semi truck filled with donations that went up in flames in oakland. the truck caught on fire in the back loading area of the salvation army warehouse at seventh and franklin streets. the top floor of the warehouse is the halfway home. residents were forced out for a short time due to the fire alarm. but the good news is no one was hurt. san francisco police want to

find the two masked men who tied up and robbed two neighbors. this happened early yesterday morning at their apartment building on baker street. that's at the edge of laurel and pacific height. abc 7 spoke to one of the victims and he said ten minutes into the robbery the gunman heard his neighbor come home when they tied her up too. # >> they ran down and grabbed her at the gate and duct taped her feet, hands and mouth. they just said tell us where any valuables are in the house or we're going to shoot her. >> wow. the robbers stole the man's wallet, car keys, phone and watches before they ran off. the two victims were not seriously hurt. happening today, the state supreme court will discuss a proposal to split california into three different states. prop 9 qualified for the november ballot last month. opponents sued arguing the poposal abolishes the state constitution which cannot be done in a ballot initiative. voter in alameda will decide

whether to raise the local sales tax by half a percent up to 9.75%. they will vote on that in november. our media partner the east bay times reports it would offset a deficit in the city's budget over the next five years and if passed, the increased sales tax would take effect in april of next year. san francisco's new mayor working to tackle homelessness. london breed london breed brought police and other city leaders to get a firsthand look at an encampment yesterday. workers helped relocate more than a dozen who once called this home. the mayor says her goal is to make sure the encampments don't exist anywhere in the city. >> our goal is to help people one at a time every situation is unique. >> really gives me hope and let mess know there is still people out there who do care about the homeless and things we're going through. >> a quarter of the bay area's homeless stay in thty that's an estimated 7500 people. happening today, a stretch

temperature wise, mid 50s to low 60s. a cool start out there but it will be a warm day away from the coast. in fact, today, is the hottest day we have all week. inland we're going into the 90s, mid and upper 90s, 87 that high in san jose, about 71 in san francisco, 77 oakland, some afternoon sunshine in napa going up to about 89 degrees. that's weather. a check of the roads with alexis. good morning. >> good morning, drew. i want to take you back to our most serious incident right now, also probably the biggest backup we have a crash in the fremont area, southbound 880 near stevenson boulevard. few details from chp, down to just the far left lane blocked. initially they were saying seven vehicles involved. i think a few people just stopped to help out. they're saying only four vehicles now were involved in the crash but one does have major injuries and that is backed up just about state route 84. not a lot of great alternates. use surface streets and connect at auto mall parkway.

earlier it's foggy and not really on the bay bridge, fog has settled in for the bay bridge commute and still have the dense fog advisory for golden gate.depart is investiga whether an officer was justified in shooting at suspects from his vehicle during a high-speed chase. >> the story making national headlines and two murder suspects were shooting at officer william umana as he tried to stop them. officials say they fired at the officers 34 times forcing him to return fire through his own windshield. the suspects crashed their car. the officers shot and killed the driver. the other suspect ran to a nearby elementary school where he was caught and arrested. this morning, on "good morning america" former fbi special agent and abc news security consultant steve gomez goes frame by frame over the video. >> he knows his life is in danger, which means he is authorized to use deadly force but is it advisable. >> you don't know how you're going to react until there in the thick of it making decisions

abc 7 mornings. >> back at 6:15. santa rosa is going after pg&e. it want compensation for damage following the north bay wildfires. now the official cause of the tubs fire which is the one that devastated santa rosa isn't out yet, but cal fire determined the utility company's power equipment caused a dozen fires across northern california in october. santa rosa officials released a statement that says we must take action to seek fair compensation and reimbursement from the responsible parties so that our community can move forward to a full recovery and secure the future safety of our citizens. sonoma, lake, mendocino and napa counties are suing over the fires. an infant in san bernardino county is the first child to die from hooping cough

health officials made the announcement yesterday. california experienced a epidemic in 2014 with 11,000 cases statewide. health officials expect the next outbreak next year in 2019. the california department of public health recommends immunization for children as early as six weeks old. the mab who svi into a cement mixer in union city is talking about the ordeal. >> what an ordeal it was. jose canela told the i-team he was working at u.s. pipe and foundry when he lost his footing over a silo that feeds a mixer. a co-worker turned off the machine but canela was stuck. >> it was like quick sand or water. >> struggling. >> i'm just trying to stay on top of it. >> crews freed canela after a little more than two hours. he did suffer burns. canela says he's grateful to his co-workers and rescue crews for their help. a development involving a

plan to build massive tunnels to divert water from the sacramento river to southern california. backers of the delta tunnels project are ready to ask the trump administration for a $1.6 billion federal loan. the report says water users will ultimately have to repay the loan through increases if their water bills. state officials are expected to start that application process tomorrow. now a new breakfast food, it looks like scrambled eggs but we're going to let you in a secret, take a look. these didn't come from a chicken. they were created by a company called just. it's a san francisco food research start-up and the company isolated the protein from beans found and resembled egg protein. after trial and error they created something that resembled and tastes like real eggs. >> we don't manipulate the bean, we don't practice genetic modification it. we grow it, mill it, take the protein out, throw it in the pan

we gain some cloud cover tomorrow and also turn more humid by friday until cooler air moves in over the weekend. that's weather. a check of the roads with alexis. good morning. >> good morning, drew. we have one situation here that we've been following for about de but certainly want to tell you to avoid south bay 880 just past stevenson boulevard. we have a four car crash, one person with major injuries. sounds like a flatbed tow truck on the scene to take two vehicles away but that backup is solid to state route 84 at this point. want to zoom in and show you the speeds in comparison to 880 there, just crawling along at 7 miles an hour. the surface streets much better. 31 miles an hour if you're just passing through the area, fremont boulevard is an alternate option. also san mateo bridge, westbound 92 not good. word of a four-car crash before the high rise and that is blocking at least one lane. i'll have an update on that coming up at 6:30. a lot of sunshine into the afternoon. today is the warmest day all week we have inland. we're approaching near 100 degrees around the bay, in the 80s. dloeds the accuweather app and track the temperature hour by hour. a traffic alert on the san mateo bridge. >> this is turning into a pretty big head ache trying to travel westbound across the bridge. traffic not moving there, trying to get out of the hayward area. we did confirm with chp, one lane open. this is a four-car crash around the high rise. for a few minutes we had all lanes blocked and we also have the far left lane blocked on th side of the bridge. i can show you where it is on our traffic maps. you have a good idea there, that is backed up to the toll plaza as you can see. i'm sure that will keep going on to 880 if that is there for long. southbound near stevenson, a multicar crash in the fremont area that is blocking one lane and that backup continues to grow as well up to 6 miles there. tough in both of these spots.

next update around 6:40. new this morning, for the first time we're hearing from the youth soccer team and their coach who spent two weeks trapped in the cave in thailand. >> just overnight all were released from the hospital and they spoke out in a news conference. we want to show you this video of t entering. they were wearing their soccer uniforms. doctors say the boys are healthy, strong and their mental state is good. they did want to set the record straight about one thing, though, despite earlier reports the boys say they all knew how to swim. one of the biggest lessons they learned is to be more careful. with the ordeal behind them the boys are looking ahead to the future. >> translator: i would like to follow my dream which is still to be a football player. and another career i would like to have i would like to be a navy s.e.a.l. >> that's inspiring. at the news conference the boys honor the thai navy s.e.a.l. who died during the rescue mission and shared a picture they drew

safely while the people transition to permanent housing. officials admit the one year pilot program has its challenges. >> assign case managers to each of the families so they'll have someone to help them navigate to that road to self-sufficiency. >> there have been concerns from residents that live nearby about the potential impacts of this program. >> reporter: those concerns include security and sanitary issues, hygiene units will be made available. once the site opens in november the area will only be able to accommodate about 20 rvs. matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thank you. new this morning, a massive fire breaks out at a storage facility in martinez. this is video from the scene on howell road at a property where pyramid movers is located. crews were called around 12:30 this morning. contra costa fire says some storage boxes caught fire and that spread to some brush. firefighters were able to get it under control before it damaged any buildings. it's not clear how the fire

started or how many of those boxes got damaged. president trump in damage control mode trying to clarify comments he made during a summit with vladimir putin. >> yeah. the president appeared to agree with putin that russia did not meddle in the 2016 elections and now he says he misspoke. >> i said the word would instead of wouldn't. the sentence should have been, i don't see any reason why it wouldn't be be russia. >> the russians need to know there are a lot of us who fully understand what happened in 2016. >> democrats are demanding top administration officials and even the u.s. translator into the trump/putin meeting testify before congress about what the two leaders discussed in their one-on-one meeting. an east bay state assemblyman who proposed a bill that would benefit pg&e has a son who works for pg&e. the chronicle reports pg&e and democrat bill quirks office

confirms his son ian works for the company. assemblyman quirk's bill would allow pg&e to issue state authorized bonds to pay settlements stemming from last october's fire. state investigators have blamed pg&e for starting 16 of the fires. pg&e's customers would then repay those bonds over time. both pg&e and quirk's office say the personal connection has nothing to do with the bill. speaking of pg&e, it says it is taking steps to keep you safe from wildfires. the company is adding dozens of new weather stations and those stations help track the temperature, wind and humidity levels. this information should help better predict future wildfires. the goal is for crews to be able to respond quicker and take preventative steps to keep us safe. pg&e says it has added 50 new weather stations this year and hopes to have 200 by the end of the year. the fbi and oakland police have issued a $30,000 reward for information to help solve a murder case.

27-year-old patrick scott was shot to death february 3rd at a bus stop at 62nd and market streets on the berkley/oakland border. he was taking a bus to his grandmother's house when he was shot and scott's mother said she heard nine shots and then found her son bleeding as he tried to make it home. she says right before her son died he told her who shot him. that is information she says she's not allowed to disclose right now. >> do the right thing. turn yourself in. i'm going to do all i can to save the next child and the child after that. i'm not going to stop. >> police say this was not a random shooting, but they have not released a possible motive yet. firefighters on the front lines of a fire burning outside of yosemite are trying to make crucial progress before the high winds come in today. the ferguson fire west of the park has burned more than 13,000 acres. it is 5% contained.

eastbound. traveling westbound, the backup beyond the toll plaza, over to 880. unfortunately 880 is a mess as well. south bay 880 near stevenson boulevard, multicar crash blocking the far left lane and chp confirming details this morning, unfortunately a person was involved in a crash, stepped out of their vehicle and then was hit by another vehicle. so some major injuries to that person. we are not sure about the condition but they are working on that investigation and totally clearing that. bay bridge toll plaza looking okay. those metering lights are on, but we don't have major issues there. if you are coming from the eastboueast bay heading into san francisco. next traffic update in ten minutes. new this morning, google facing a $5 billion fine. eu regulators say it is for breaking anti-trust laws. google accused of taking advantage of its android dominance to promote its apps and services like google search. the european commission wants the company to stop this, quote, illegal conduct in the next 90

good morning. >> good morning, drew. two major issues going still and here's one of them looking at the san mateo bridge. looks like our camera is frozen on the right-hand side, but it's not. trust me traffic not moving. we have a multicar crash east of the high rise still blocking all lanes of westbound 92 on the san mateo bridge and blocking the far left lane on the eastbound side. so traffic is still able to get by just a slight backup eastbound but major delays on the westbound side. southbound 880 near stevenson boulevard, tracking this over an hour, major injuries, a person exited their vehicle and hit by another car unfortunately. they're doing an investigation. cleanup under way does sound like it's close to clearing. the left lane blocked. check out the backup, 11 miles, jammed back up to state route 92 into the hayward area. i'll have the latest on both of these in a few minutes. >> yikes. thanks. ebay is eliminating nearly 300 jobs at sites around the bay area. our media partner "the mercury
