a rare shark scare on long island. two attacks played out very close to each other. here is linsey davis. >> reporter: some terrifying moments off the coast of fire island, new york where two children are recovering from shark bites. >> i felt pain and looked and saw a fin. >> reporter: her dad says she was up to her waist in water when all of a sudden she started to panic. >> couldn't tell what it was. she came running out of the water, pretty deep lacerations on her leg. >> reporter: these pictures tell the harrowing story, teeth marks on her leg. only one hour later, this 13 year old boy seen limping toward the ambulance emerged from the

good thursday morning. i'm kendis gibson. >> i'm diane macedo. here are some of the top stories we're following on "world news now." two children were injured in new york with what appears to be shark attacks. they were not seriously hurt. we'll hear from them ahead. the fbi director, christopher wray, says russia is still trying to sew discord in the u.s. robert mueller's investigation is not a witch hunt, he says and he dismissed vladimir putin's offer to aid in the russia investigation. and alex ovechkin was named best male athlete at last night's espy awards. chloe kim won three espys, including best female athlete, and we'll have a lot more from the espys coming up.

tomorrow's megamillion jackpot is the seventh time it has topped $400 million. no one had the ticket with all the winning numbers, but there were a few people who won million dollar prizes because they had a few similar numbers. >> i'll take those two. from abc news, this is "world news now." >> wouldn't you like to have a . so we know like, it's possibly dangerous to go to some of the beaches off the coast of florida, in california, places like that. >> australia. >> yes, yes. so, you know, it's a good time to go to long island, right? >> apparently not. >> no. apparently, there were a couple of shark attacks of children no less. >> so the 13 year old boy, 12 year old girl playing in the water off fire island, the first incident involving the girl. the second attack was about an hour later on the 13 year old boy.

they were only miles apart from each other. rescuers extracted a tooth from the leg of the boy. our new york station has more. >> it was a shark, it was like a shock. it was really quick. like one second, it went like that, and then it just let go immediately. >> reporter: 13 year old matthew donaldson was boogie boarding off fire island when it happened. this is his leg after being apparently bitten by a shark, and this is the tooth the emts pulled out of it. >> it was small, so i guess it was a baby shark or something like that. and it was a shark tooth. it was actually a shark. >> reporter: he was able to walk himself to an ambulance, but he needed help getting ashore from lifeguard bella cohen. >> it's incredible. there's never been a shark attack on fire island. all the older guys have never this. >> reporter: less than an hour earlier, half a mile away, 12 year old lola, with deep gashes

in her leg. >> i was in shock almost. because like it pulled and i kind of looked at it and was like oh, my gosh. so it didn't -- it was like this. >> i seen her in the water like struggling. her head kind of up. and there was this commotion in the water next to her. >> of course there's reason to be concerned. >> the fire chief was there when the tooth was yanked out of donaldson's leg. this shark was pulled out of the water and officials are testing to see if this tooth belongs to this shark. >> the fact that there were three incidents within a five-hour period, to me, that's strange. >> experts say the shark or sharks were likely feeling for food, no reason for alarm. >> they get a lot of tactile information from their mouth. so their mouth is seeing if it's

questions. he said he misspoke when he apparently took vladimir putin's words over intelligence officials. here's tom llamas. >> reporter: they were behind closed doors, face-to-face for more than two hours, and now, days after the summit, it's unclear exactly what was said. but president trump told cbs news he warned putin not to meddle in american elections. >> we can't have meddling, we can't have any of that. i let him know, we can't have this, we're not going to have it, and that's the way it's going to be. >> reporter: the only people who would have heard that, putin, his interpreter and president trump's own interpreter, marina gross. senate democrats, including

jeanne shaheen calling on gross to turn over any notes about that meeting. >> we need the president to share with us what happened at that meeting. if he won't do it, the interpreter should come and we should make sure we know what happened. >> reporter: the republican chairman of the foreign relations committee saying he'd consider it. >> we're checking to see if it's appropriate. >> reporter: the white house says if congress wants this, talk to the state department. the state department is still waiting on an official request for their interpreter. >> we always seek to work with congress. >> reporter: it's highly unlikely, the state department said. they don't know if there's precedent for this, and the president could invoke executive privilege, arguing he needs discretion to negotiate more effectively. tom i can't makes tom llamas, abc news, new york. the white house says it's considering vladimir putin's offer to allow access to the 12

russians accused of hacking democrats. but the state department has denounced the idea as absurd. michael mcfaul, is facing corruptions by moscow. he says if the white house doesn't condemn the request, it's creating a moral equivalency. mark zuckerberg says he finds holocaust denial deeply offensive but he says material isn't removed from facebook unless it will result in harm to someone. later he said if something is spreading and found to be false by fact checkers it would likely be removed. the anti-defam facebook has the obligation not to allow the dissemination of the anti-holocaust information.

california supreme court has ordered that a measure to divide california into three separate states be removed from the november ballot. justices say major questions have been raised about the validity of the proposition, but it could appear on a future ballot. backers of the bill say california's government is too big to serve the people properly. critics say splitting the state would dismantle the world's fifth largest economy without solving any problems. and spain is considering new law. the yes means yes law requires both partners to give vocal concept for sex. if a woman doesn't say yes explicitly, everything else is a no. it's modeled after similar laws in european countries and follows widespread protest in spain after men were charged on lesser charges in the rape of a woman. and a nfl player is going on record saying he will continue
