around the bay near 80 and at the coast, low 60s keeping things cool with the sea breeze. it will be a gorgeous night with sunset at 8:27 and i'll have your accuweather seven-day forecast. >> frances, thanks. developing news out of missouri where there are questions about the deadly duck boat accident that killed 17 people and one of the questions, how much warning did the crew have about the dangerous weather conditions? abc news reporter ariel rashov has the details. >> new details about the fateful evening in table rock lake in branson, missouri. >> reporter: authorities now investigating whether the operators of this duck boat tour had enough time to turn that vessel around and get all 29 passengers to safety. 11:20 a.m. the national weather service issuing a severe thunderstorm watch for portions of western and central missouri until 9:00 p.m., highlighting potential for damaging winds and large hail. 6:30 p.m., a severe thunderstorm warning for the area. this time specifically including

tablerock lake. just take a look right there in the center. you can see in the thick red line, branson caught right in the middle. the rough and rocky conditions on the water seen here just hours before the tragic accident. >> be advised, we have strong thunderstorms moving through right now. intense winds and rain in branson. >> 7:00 p.m., those severe thunderstorms turning deadly for passengers as the boat was tossed around the lake by 63 mile per hour wind gusts, crushed by six-foot waves before capsizing. in a phone interview with cbs this morning, the president of the company that owned that duck boat saying no one was expecting the storm. of those 29 passengers and two crew members onboard, 17 did not survive, including the boat's driver, robert williams. six more taken to the hospital. two still in critical condition. the victims' ages ranging from 1 to 76. >> the status of the personal flotation devices onboard, whether they were worn will definitely be a focus of the

investigation. >> ariel rashev, abc news, new york. the ntsb says it will be on scene for at least ten days gathering information. the investigation is likely to take up to a year to complete, but the initial findings could be released in the coming months. all right. time now 8:03. happening today, a plaque will be dedicated in memory of the six student ws who died in uc berkeley. seven other people were hurt in the 2015 collapse. five of the students killed were irish exchange students. the ceremony is scheduled for 11:00 this morning in the intersection of alton and and ad inking junior way. this morning the search is on for the person who killed a mother of four who was found dead in her richmond apartment. coworkers went looking for 38-year-old kishana harley after she didn't show up for work. abc 7 news reporter katie utehs has more. >> she was a really good person.

>> reporter: he wants to give a voice to his friend and former coworker kishana harley. >> whatever the reason was, she didn't deserve to die. >> reporter: he used to work with harley at the social security administration building in richmond. coworkers say she left for lunch with a man earlier this week and failed to return. eventually they went to her apartment on brook avenue in richmond. >> when they got there the door was kind of ajar like you may have already heard and there was blood on the outside, blood all -- you know, blood everywhere. >> reporter: richmond police are investigating and releasing few details of the crime. they confirm that at 9:45 thursday they did a welfare check and found the victim deceased with traumatic injuries. >> the police officer said that they needed to evacuate because there was a gas leak. so i rushed back and when i got here i found out that apparently she was actually killed in her house, but someone left the gas open. >> harly described herself on linkedin as someone who has overcome homelessness and

domestic violence. she wanted to advocate for change. neighbors wonder who would kill a mother of four. >> if it was somebody who was just walking around, you know, and saw her coming into her home and just attacked her. >> reporter: if you have any information contact the richmond police. in richmond, katie utehs, abc 7 news. a suspected serial bank robber who targeted five bay area banks may be dead. the faux badge bandit was connected -- the faux badge bandit was wanted in connection with two robberies in the east bay and three in cupertino along with robberies in southern california and the sacramento valley. yesterday the fbi said a robber matching his description was found dead in santa barbara county. deputies say the man had just robbed a bank and then locked himself in a nail salon bathroom. when they finally got in, he was shot. he was dead of a single gunshot wound. a surprising find in local wine. the new study says there are

radioactive particles from the fukushima nuclear disaster in some of the bottles. according to the chronicle french researchers detected trace amounts of cesium 137, a radioactive isotope in 18 bottles of red wine from napa. the wineries were not named. the researchers believe the particles came from the fukushima daiichi nuclear power plant devastated by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. the golden gate park golf course is open for business and this comes three weeks after this fire destroyed the clubhouse that was originally built in 1951. crews removed it and now there's a temporary one in its place. it's not clear what started the fire. happening today. residents in contra costa county can learn basic safety training skills at the la miranda safety fair. you can meet first responders, attend demonstrations and learn how to prepare for the next emergency or disaster. there will also be a police

motorcycle competition with officers from across the united states and canada demonstrating their skills. it starts in st. mary's college in moraga. >> it's the second day of the rugby world cup sevens in san francisco. it's an international event. 40 teams are representing 28 nations during the tournament. the competitors include both men's and women's squads. all matches are being played at at&t park. >> this is my first time immigrant rugby supporter and my first time at a sevens and i'm looking forward to it and i am hoping the island will do well. >> you can learn the rules of the game in less than 30 seconds by watching this video. we've posted it on our website, abc 7 news.com. nearly a half billion dollars is on the line in the next mega millions drawing and nobody picked up the $433 million jackpot so it rolls over again. the estimated jackpot for tuesday's drawing is now $493 million. that's $296 million if you take

will get throughout the bay coming up in her full accuweather forecast. >> the end of an era for a san francisco business. after nearly 70 years, a famous mexican bakery in the mission is set to close next month. abc 7 news reporter kate larson explains. >> reporter: la victoria has been a fix our 24th street in the mission for 67 years. >> we have puercos over here that are gingerbread pigs. >> danny handles the bakery famous for their pan dullesy cce last week he was told he needed to leave so the building can be sold. >> there's still so much uncertainy and that's part of the stress of trying to figure out all of the different possible plans of what might happen. >> it's not just la victoria that relies on this building. there are half a dozen businesses that lease space in this kitchen to cook and bake their food, not to mention about 30 employees who are wondering if they'll have a job next month. >> we're not going have a kitchen to work out of anymore.

time now is 8:13. transportation officials want your help fixing the bay area's bad commute. so the ntc is now out with a new campaign asking for your ideas. abc 7 news reporter melanie woodrow has the story. >> bay area natives know getting around the bay can be challenging and sometimes seem impossible. >> you have 580 which is a disaster and you've got 101 which is horrible. and you have the 680 corridor going through san ramon and that completely sucks. >> the projects that had already been approved include a bart extension to downtown san jose and the electrification of cal trans and residents have a chance to suggest their next great solution. the metropolitan transportation commission and the association of bay area governments wants your idea. they're looking for a way to improve mobility across the bay area. campaign organizers will consider ideas from individuals, companies, public agencies and non-governmental organization. >> be big. be bold.

green light on on tuesday and it will begin metering on the 31st. abc 7 news is at crissy field avenue in san francisco as it closed down permanently to vehicles. crews are turning it into a trail for pedestrians and bicyclists. cyclists will only be able to go uphill for a few months while changes are being made. >> residents and tourists are celebrating a reopening of the portion of a scenic highway. yesterday's ceremony comes more than a year after a mudslide overtook highway 1 at big sur. last may about 6 million cubic yards of debris. it created 2400 feet of new shoreline and 15 acres of new land. workers who did the repairs are happy the program is finally finished. >> this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of something really big, and like i said, like the golden gate

bridge or something of that sort, you know? something that you can say i worked on that project. >> the repair project cost $54 million. the portion at mud creek opened two months ahead of schedule. >> the royals may be planning a trip to the bay area. meghan markle and prince harry are said to be making plans to travel to california with a stop here early next year. leann melendez has the details. >> reporter: it was "us weekly" which reported on the upcoming visit on "good morning america," the day of the royal visit, some time in early 2019. >> we know that they want to meet with ceos and especially female tech entrepreneurs out in silicon valley to raise awareness to the royal foundation and see if they can really start working more closely with them. >> it's not clear who will orchestrate the visit, but we know meghan markle is good friends with tennis star serena williams whose husband is co-founder of reddit and both attended the royal wedding. >> i would be surprised if they

in san francisco, it has climbed up to 60 degrees and san jose is at 68 and half moon bay cooler at 59 degrees and check out the blue skies over san rafael right now. in santa rosa, it's 60. 66 in novato, fairfield and concord and livermore already to 67, but as we head back to the golden gate bridge, we'll find the fog and some mist this morning. foggy and misty especially along the coast this morning and then we see typical summer weather this weekend which means a wide range of temperatures from 60s at the coast to 90s inland. here's our forecast animation of how the day plays out. at 9:00 this morning we'll be under clouds especially along the coast and by 2:00 this afternoon when we typically see some of the warmest temperatures, we'll see plenty of sunshine around the bay and even the clouds pulling back from the coast and this evening the clouds move in again overnight for a foggy morning tomorrow. highs today will range from 60s

at the coast with the sea breeze to keep things cool. half moon bay, 63. oakland, 74 and san jose, 84 degrees and our warmest spots will be in the low 90s through antioch and livermore and look for a comfortable 82 and napa, 82 as well. if you're headed to the rugby world cup sevens be prepared for traffic. you might need a light jacket and we'll be mostly sunny this afternoon near 70 degrees and breezy, as well and dropping down into the mid-60s and low 60s by 10:00 tonight and also the bay bridge series, if you're headed to the game you'll need lots of sunscreen. 6:00, the game starts, 6:05 and sun sets at 8:27 and drops down into the mid-60s by the time the game ends and lots of events going on around the bay area for the menlo summerfest will be perfect, mild and sunny weather. t-shirt and shorts and sunglasses and sunscreen and upper 70s both days with low 60s

a warning now if you're planning to cool off in a lake or river this weekend. avoid contact with blue green algae in humboldt, mendocino and lake counties as well as discovery bay. the algae can grow into dangerous toxic blooms. testing last month shows that some of the algae is already toxic. it can cause rashes, vomiting and fever. children and pets should avoid water with the algae. new this morning, women who earn more than their husbands may be shy about sharing that information. researchers looked at census data and found both husbands and wives in these relationships will say the husband's paychecks

mostly in the 60s. at the coast, upper 50s and mostly sunny by noon as the fog dissipates and mixes out and things warm up and it will be mild to warm this afternoon. inland near 90 and around the bay, and at the coast near 60s and a pleasant inland and around the bay with mild temperatures in the 70s. i will have your tahoe travel forecast and the threat of thunderstorms coming up. chris? >> frances, thanks. >> developing news out of missouri. survivors of the deadly duck boat tragedy are talking about the terror of being thrown into the water during a violent storm. 31 people were onboard when it happened. 17 died. they ranged in age from 9 to 70. passengers on another duck boat rushed in to try to help the victims. >> and i was yelling and i was screaming, and finally i said, lord, just let me die. let me die. i said i can't -- i can't keep drowning.

>> investigators are looking into why the boat was even on the water with the severe thunderstorm watch issued just 30 minutes before the boat capsized and sank. the president of the company that owns the duck boats said the operator has a good safety record. now to a tragic story out of southern california. a grandfather has been arrested after a 4-year-old got a hold of his gun and fatally shot the man's 2-year-old's granddaughter. it happened yesterday morning in the city of san bernardino county. the shooting was accidental. they also say the 53-year-old grandfather left the gun in a place that was accessible to the children. the toddlers were cousins. >> she had a patch on her chest and we thought she got shot in her chest. . it's crazy how you can leave a gun anywhere and anyone can just grab it. if he knows there are children around and they're awake and playing this early, why would he leave a gun where they can reach

it? >> the grandfather faces two charges including child endangerment. more people have been forced out of their homes because of the ferguson fire near yosemite. the new evacuations include the small towns of foresta and old el portal as well as the yosemite view lodge, which was a popular hotel there. highway 140 is closed this morning and the park remains open. if you're headed to yosemite you'll need to find a different route. >> it was spread to the stanislaus national forest. this was time lapse video hours before it crossed. this morning the fire closed 27,000 acres and is just 7% contained. >> now to the fallout from president trump's former personal attorney michael cohen. sources tell abc news investigators wo raid investigators who raided cohen's office and hotel, here's abchere

news reporter david wright with the update. >> it doesn't get much more tawdry than this. apparent confirmation that in the closing days of the 2016 campaign, donald trump approved a plan to buy the silence of former playboy playmate karen mcdougal about an alleged affair. >> thank you very much. >> are you lying about the affair? >> the president has always denied extra marital relationships and any knowledge of hush money paid to mcdougal or adult film star stormy daniels, but the brief audio recording made secretly by trump's lawyer michael cohen undercuts that. it was among items seized in an fbi raid of cohen's home office and hotel according to sources who say cohen outlines a scheme to reimburse the publishers of the national enquirer $150,000 for the rights to her story in order to bury it, a practice

known as catch and kill. sources familiar with the tape which abc sources have not heard says trump tells cohen to make sure any payment is properly documented. sources say the reimbursement never happened. the enquirer never ran the story and earlier this year mcdougal filed suit against the publisher seeking to invalidate the nondisclosure agreement she signed. she also spoke with cnn's anderson cooper. >> did donald trump ever say to you that he loved you? >> all the time. >> sources say the recordings came as a surprise to the president. his longtime fixer has previously pledged his undying loyalty to trump. >> i'll do anything to protect mr. trump. >> but the pressures of a federal investigation may be taking their toll as cohen recently told george stephanopoulos, my wife, my daughter and my son have my first loyalty and always will. i put family and country first. >> fired fbi director james

supposed to go to his daughter and he typed the wrong e-mail on zelle could rick please send his money back? rick thought it was a scam. >> they send you money and you're supposed to send the money somewhere else and the money disappears. zelle had no button for that and he ctacted his bank, wells fargo. they didn't know what to do. they'd never heard of this issue. wells fargo suggested rick send $100 to the stranger and that didn't seem safe. couldn't wells fargo simply reverse the transaction? >> it will take five to seven business days. instead, rick got a big scare. i was told my accounts were locked. immediately my alarm bells were ringing that someone had hacked my accounts. >> and then the real culprit. are aware of a $100 zelle transaction. it treated it as a case of fraud and he couldn't access any of his money. >> it was an unbelievable experience. as for the $100, it came out of rick's account and then it

skies and some of those low clouds and fog especially at the coast. foggy and misty areas this morning especially the closer you are to the beaches. i would use my wipers a few times in san francisco and we'll see typical summer weather this weekend which means a wide range of temperatures from 60s at the coast to 90s inland and there's something for everyone today. the sea breeze keeps things cool in half moon bay. 63 there and 69 in san francisco and oakland, 74 and the low 80s through san rafael, napa and low 90s and some of the warmest inland spots like antioch and livermore. now that monsoonal moisture has moved east which brings the threat of thunderstorms to the sierra area, south lake tahoe. there could be lightning and heavy rain at times. the threat continues through the weekend with about a 30% to 40% chance of thunderstorms. highs will be in the low 80s and then it will drop down to the low 50s evernight.

so be aware of that if you're heading up there. also, there's still an air quality alert due to the ferguson fires and this is for much of the central part of the state. fresno, visalia, especially yosemite village. we have a live shot of yosemite. you can see this is actually the half dome. visibility has improved, but it is still pretty smoky out there. if you are traveling through that area, do try to stay indoors if you can. for us, we just have another gorgeous day in the bay area. so a typical summertime pattern means inland numbers in the low 90s around the bay, near 80 degrees and at the coast, low 60s. little change. we are on cruise control for the next seven days, near average. temperatures midweek will warm up slightly. so we will get up into the mid-90s for the inland areas, near 80 around bay and possible mid-60s again at the coast, but things will be cool at the coast
