commute. here's a look at the exploratorium, you can see the low clouds. we really have cloud this morning. 56 to about 60. by noon, 60 at the coast but 70s and 80s around the bay, to 80s and 90s at 4:00, and still 70s and 80s at 7:00. typical summer day. >> good morning. we're looking at some typical conditions for golden gate bridge. in fact, not looking too bad at the moment but we have a dense fog advisory issued by chp for golden gate this morning. so slow down. we could have some areas with pretty low visibility there this morning. so far, though, that north bay drive is very light. as are most of them at this early hour. westbound 580, tracy to castro valley in the yellow at 54 minutes. northbound 101, 11 minutes, and northbound 280, highway 1 to san francisco, wide open at ten minutes. >> new this morning, one person is dead following a violent traffic collision in campbell. a minivan rear ended a car near hamilton avenue last night. both vehicles caught fire.

firefighters tried to get a person out of one of the minivans but couldn't. three other people were hurt, one seriously. a southbound stretch of highway 17 was closed for more than an hour. an explosion shook a san jose neighborhood after a car erupted in flames. happened last night at stockton avenue and west taylor street. firefighters had to douse the vehicle with water for several minutes to knock down the intense flames. no one was hurt. police now trying to figure out how this fire started. happening today, the san francisco board of supervisors will vote whether to ban marijuana shops in chinatown. the land use and transportation committee voted in favor of the proposed ban last week. since the legalization of recreational marijuana at the beginning of this year, chinatown residents have been opposed to a dispensary opening in the neighborhood. the examiner reports there are no pending applications for dispensaries in chinatown, but there are some in walking

distance. this morning, the white house is threatening to strip the security clearances of former top security officials who have been critical of president trump. we have details. >> an unprecedented threat is under way as president trump considers revoking the security clearances of multiple former national security officials. >> not only is the president looking to take away brennan's security clearance. he's also looking into the clearances of comey, clapper, hayden, rice, and mccabe. >> these six members of the obama and bush administrations all critics of the current president, including former cia director john brennan, who on msnbc blasted the president's summit with vladimir putin. >> i used the term this is nothing short of treasonous because it is a betrayal of the nation. >> they politicized and in some cases monetized their public service and their security clearances, and making baseless accusations of improper contact with russia or being influenced by russia against the president

is extremely inappropriate. >> their free speech he doesn't like, and he wants to punish them for it. >> i think you are creating your own story. >> two people on that list, former fbi director james comey and his former deputy, andrew mccabe, lost their clearance after they were fired. on cnn, former intelligence chief james clapper reacted to the president's threat. >> this is real abuse of the clearance system. just to use it to attack political opponents or people who have been critical of the president. >> some legal experts say the president has the authority to revoke those security clearances based on supreme court precedent and other federal law. but there's a question of whether he should use that authority to go after his critics. abc news, washington. >> happening now, fire crews battling an aggressive new wildfire here in northern california. it's the car fire. it's burning near redding and shasta county. it's charred 2500 acres of land

since it began yesterday and it's only 5% contained. structures in the town of french gulch are threatened and the entire town is under a mandatory evacuation order. a stretch of highway 299 is now closed. meanwhile, near yosemite, the ferguson fire has grown to nearly 34,000 acres and is just 13% contained. fire crews are now racing to get more of the fire contained as temperatures rise. they're not only battling the heat but also the steep terrain. mandatory evacuation orders still in place. so far, no buildings have been damaged or destroyed. and due to high temperatures throughout the state this week, cal iso has issued a flex alert in order to conserve energy. consumers are urged not to use electricity from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 tonight and again tomorrow during those times. officials say that's when air conditioners are at its peak use, and some tips to conserve energy include turning off any unnecessarily lights, not using

major appliances during the alert, and setting air conditioners to 78 degrees or higher. so mike, some good advice for folks trying to help everyone out. >> absolutely. we know what the brown outs are like, especially when it's this out. we don't want the rolling brown outs, especially during the heat of the day. do what we can. it will probably be another one tomorrow and another thursday because these are our three hottest days across the state. i'll take a look at that forecast in less than seven minutes. let's focus on san francisco. mid to upper 50s, from 55 to 58 degrees. but it's a very comfortable start to the morning until you get to places like tracy where it's 71 degrees right now. that's where all the heat is coming in from the east and south towards us. walnut creek right now, about 60 degrees under clear sky. driving today, watch out for foggy spots. gusty north of the bay bridge, and mass transit cool, but possibly hot this afternoon. here's a look at the south bay. 66 at 8:00. 80 at noon. hanging out in the mid tuper 80s

this afternoon, but a comfortable 75 by 8:00. in the north bay, we start at 58. we jump up to 77 by noon. hang out in the 80s during the afternoon hours, back to a nice 71 by 8:00, and some of our hottest temperatures where the air conditioners will be running the most will be in the 90s for the better part of the afternoon hours. still 80 at 8:00 in the inland east bay valleys. at least you're starting off in the 60s. let's talk about what's going on on the roads. any hot spots? >> no, not really. looking good so far this morning. no major incidents to talk about, and some nice light volumes to enjoy. here's a look at the san mateo bridge. ended up being a tough commute for you yesterday, about midmorning with a disabled vehicle. nothing like that today to report. at least so far, anyway, so folks leaving hayward looking good heading over to the foster city area. and mass transit off to a great start, too. no issues. b.a.r.t., 26 trains in service, no delays. ace went out on time this morning and no delays for golden

this is abc 7 mornings. >> here's a look at the reason why we're under a flex alert. 5 million to 8 million of us under a heat advisory or excessive heat warning not only today but tomorrow and thursday. here's a look at some of the temperatures. 120 in palm springs. 84 in san diego. 92 in l.a. that's nothing compared to fresno and chico, 100. nearly 100 in sacramento. and about 95 in yosemite. here's a look at what's going to happen in tahoe where temperatures will be above average. thunderstorms possible today, to a lesser extent thursday, and near 90 for highs all the way through the weekend. >> thank you. san francisco police have released body camera video from an encounter between a black business owner and officers. officers arrived at gormonade last tuesday as the owner was opening up his gourmet lemonade stand. someone called police, reporting he was a burglar. >> somebody called saying you're

ion knowwe h tiguret out. >> sves oohe owned the business. he says he is not upset at san francisco police but instead with whomever called 911. stevenson says their action might have been rooted in racism. >> looters who target homeowners forced to evacuate their homes because of natural disasters are going to face harsher penalties. governor brown has signed a bill into law which expands the crime of looting to include times when people are evacuated due to emergency. it increased penalties to include more jail time and fines. you may remember some looters have been found posing as firefighters and other emergency workers. >> a major change coming to the santa clara city council. a judge has ordered the city be divided into six districts for future elections. and supporters argue the at-large election system suppressed the minority vote and led to an all-white council.

>> i would think so. very proud. let's look at what's going on outside. hi, everybody. both of our teams, yeah, taking a break. at least away from us. 4:47, and here's a look at san jose at 87. you can see some clouds trying to roll on in. temperature in the low 60s in the south bay right now. we have more inland warming today, but it will still be cool at the coast. warmest today through thursday and the hot temperatures expire through the weekend. the cloud cover doesn't get to all of our neighborhoods. that means faster sunshine inland, and by noon, most of the clouds to the coast and that's where they're going to stay. by 7:00, you can see the sea breeze that never goes away and keeps the coast and the bay from getting too hot comes back during the evening hours tonight and does the same thing for you tomorrow. we have low to mid 80s throw most of the south bay, and then you get to los gatos, morgan hills and 90s. most of us in the upper 70s to

low 80s. the coast, keeping you in the 60s. warmer up in north bay today. we'll be in the upper 80s to low 90s in most neighborhoods, but yeah, the 100s really stick out around ukiah and lakeport, and then mid tuper 70s for most of the east bay, and then 80s, and then inland, mid to upper 90s this afternoon. going to be a hot one there. temperatures in the mid 50s to mid 60s, about like what we had this morning. my accuweather seven-day forecast, hotter tomorrow and then the heat slowly eases. it's not going to be an abrupt change, but by the time we get to the weekend, we're back to average. >> good morning. yeah, pretty average for the morning commute here as well. we're looking at the bay bridge toll plaza. no metering lights yet and not too bad for the stackp in the cash lanes. just a few if that's the way you're heading through the toll plaza. we have road work, eastbound 580, scheduled to go until 11:00

through 11:00 p.m. thursday. so you have a long time of very hot temperatures. back here at home, we're going to have quite a spread, from 68 in san francisco, just 2 degrees above average, to 95 in concord, which is about 7 degrees above average. you can see the farther you are away from water, the hotter you're going to be compared to average today. let's get another check of the commute. >> good morning. we're looking live at the richmond side of the richmond/san rafael bridge where you're not going to have a lot of company at this early hour. so far, looking good. that was the toughest spot late in the morning yesterday. i had a delay approaching the toll plaza a moment ago and we have roadwork scheduled on westbound 580 between castro and the toll plaza until about 6:00 this morning. i will keep an eye on that. doesn't look like much of a backup at the moment. we'll look at drive times add while mo1 years e by eo isd associated degree.
