smears against michael cohen from the trump camp primarily by mayor giuliani inventing words in a transcript that didn't ever get spoken as you just heard. the word is cash. everybody should listen to the tape and see whether i'm right or not, just listen. >> i do want to get to that. how do you respond to mr. giuliani's claim that it's outrageous that a lawyer was taping his client? >> well, it changes the topic. why did giuliani lie about michael cohen saying that he's the one who said cash just as he lied when he said that donald trump, in fact, didn't say -- >> may be changing the topic but what's the answer, why was he taped? >> michael cohen has an answer as to why he taped conversations and i think he'll have to give that answer himself. i can't reveal that but i will say michael cohen has turned a corner in had is life and he's now dedicated to telling the truth to everyone and we'll see what happens. >> let's get into some specifics

right there. you say he said cash. that seemed to be what i heard as well but it is a little bit garbled. rudy giuliani says he was saying don't pay cash. what if it was cash, what's the significance there? >> it's about lies and truth. giuliani can't make up the words don't pay. i say to everybody who voted for donald trump don't believe me, i'm a democrat. listen to the tape. the words don't pay are not heard. the word cash. so it's not about cash versus not cash. it's about truth, and the power of the truth is what michael cohen now has. no matter what giuliani invents or mayor giuliani invents for a president who's been known to lie, don't believe me, listen to the tape the way john dean had a tape that did in richard nixon. >> you say john dean had a tape that did in richard nixon, the watergate tapes but this deal wasn't consummated. so is there any criminal activity there? >> no, it's about truth. if mr. trump lied about would versus would not in what he said

to putin and he lied about knowing about the mcdougal issue when we know from the tape he did know and lied almost about everything including the message as to what happened in the trump tower meeting which giuliani ultimately had to admit. this is about truth versus lying and ultimately donald trump is going to be done in by the truth. >> i want to play another portion of the tape that i think has some significance that has not been focused on yet. this is the tape of michael cohen speaking with donald trump. >> i need to open up a company for the transfer of all of that info regarding our friend, david. >> i was struck by the phrase, all of that info. i mean, we know that david pecker, ami, had paid for karen mcdougal's story but michael cohen is talking about all of that info. so is that information beyond karen mcdougal? >> so i don't know the answer to that other than what i've heard from mr. cohen is under our privilege as an attorney but i will say that it completely disputes the lie that donald trump didn't know about karen mcdougal before this conversation. listen to the tape.

ant. we all know how strong you are, demi. lovato was scheduled to perform this friday in atlantic city but that concert has now been canceled. her representative also says that some of the information being reported is incorrect and that the family is asking for privacy, not speculation. they say her health and recovery is most important right now. robin. >> it truly is. all right, linsey, thank you very much. joining us now is dr. drew pinsky, of course, an addiction expert and host of "dr. drew midday live" on knbc radio. always good to see you. >> good morning, robin. >> looking for your perspective on this. what did you think when you first heard? >> interesting to hear the family say the speculation is probably inaccurate. the first thing i thought there was a report of heroin and i thought that did not make sense to me. she's not had that history with heroin. she has had opiates, but not heroin. i didn't buy that, number one. we know she was unconscious, given narcan which is what the fire department does when they come upon an unconscious person. she is an addict and i thought the second thought i had was what a lovely person.

i mean, we all have known her. she is this unbelievably dear person and she, indeed, needs our prayers and respect and then my next thought was, this is drug addiction. it's a chronic illness marked by relapses. this happens. nothing wrong with this. this is just part of the course of her illness and it's chronic and she'll get better. she will get well again. this idea, robin, that people have that it's something sort of one and done, you go and get treated for 30 days like a car wash and magically get well, nothing further could be from the truth. >> not uncommon six years sober and as i was saying when we took the break i've had cancer, i get cancer again. no one blames me or looks at me and points if you relapse with cancer but with this, there's finger-pointing. >> it's weird. as though it's a volitional thing or it's a weakness or something which is absolutely bizarre and deadly disease just like cancer. people have to remember that. if you have an opiate addiction you're more likely to die from that than most cancers. it's a serious illness, but on average it takes multiple years and multiple treatments to get one year of sobriety.

just to get one year. so the fact that she had six years, she has been doing -- she is way ahead of the curve already. i am certain she'll get back into the game. she'll get back into her sobriety and she will be fine. there may be other relapses ahead. that doesn't mean anything. that means she has addiction. and by the way she has multiple psychiatric conditions, right? >> bipolar. >> eating disorder that makes it more complicated. the other thing that her case sort of points out, even once you treat the addiction, then you have got to deal with some of the underlying stuff there. she has trauma, mood disorder and can't deal with any of that until your sobriety is well established. >> what do you say not only to demi and her family but others who go through relapse, what do they need to do to regain that sobriety? >> bottom line, get back into the program, everybody, family in al-anon, back to the mutual aid societies and team of mental health professionals and get it going again. don't back off. don't cave. people we lose are the ones that drift away from their treatment team and get deeply into their drug addiction. just get back into the process. this is just how it goes.

demi lovato is recovering this morning, hospitalized after an apparent overdose. drug overdoses are becoming an increasing problem here in the u.s. claiming the lives of more than 63,000 people in 2016 and, jen, this is just -- it's not uncommon. >> that's right. and this is on our national radar, medically, socially, because it is so common, but we have to remember that relapse is really not the exception. it's so common it's almost the rule. we know that people battling addiction, living with addiction about 40% to 60% of them will have at least one relapse and i think the key here is that we need to think of this like what it is, a medical condition. if we have a patient with diabetes and their blood sugar is well controlled for a long time and then all of a sudden becomes poorly controlled we don't kick them out of the office and say forget it. you're doomed. that's what we do in medicine. this is a marathon, not a sprint. when you hear about things like a relapse, yes, it's sad. yes, it's scary, but it doesn't mean that successful treatment long-term is not possible.

>> what do we know medically about addiction? >> we don't know a lot. we do know some things like many things in medicine there is a genetic or familial predisposition. if you have it in your family you're more likely to be affected by it. it's not your destiny, but it can be more common, and we know a fair amount about the changes that go on in the brain in people who battle addiction whether it's a substance or whether it's a behavior. there's a reward center in the brain that releases these chemicals when exposed to that substance. people who become dependent and addicted need more and more of that substance to trigger the same feeling and that's when you can get into trouble with a lethal overdose, whether it's accidental or intentional. your brain just needs more and more of the same thing. >> remind us of the treatment options. >> more treatment options than ever and that has to be the message when we hear tragic or scary stories whether outpatient therapy or impatient more intensive rehab, psychotherapy,

medication. there are complimentary therapies. it'sot o size fits all. it's about finding what works for the individual and sticking it out long-term. this is something that people have to deal with every single day like having brown eyes. >> can we reaffirm that because or reconfirm that because there's so many people when -- if it's any other illness as you said, you used diabetes as an example, that it's not them not having willpower. >> no. >> or anything like that. >> i have not met any patient battling addiction in my medical career, and every doctor will see them, not just addiction specialists, who wants to be addicted. so this is something that has nothing to do with commitment, dedication, willpower, a drive to recover or heal. this is something that is medically inside them. it's no different than cancer, diabetes, so they need our medical support. they need our social support. >> all right. jen, thanks so much. cecilia. thanks, robin. we turn to serena williams. she's blasting the u.s. anti-doping agency. the 23-time grand slam winner

tweeting that she was being drug tested yet again and she's accusing the agency of discrimination. abc's diane macedo is here with more. good morning. >> reporter: cecilia, good morning. serena williams has had more than enough, apparently. after it was revealed she's been drug tested more than any other american tennis player williams posted on twitter that she's been randomly tested again. now she's questioning just how random these tests really are. she's one of the top tennis players in the world. and this morning, serena williams is taking aim at the u.s. anti-doping agency, accusing officials of discrimination. williams writes on twitter, and it's that time of day to get randomly drug tested and only test serena. out of all the players it's been proven i'm the one getting tested the most. discrimination? i think so. at least i'll be keeping the sport clean. #staypositive. the 23-time grand slam champion has been at odds with tennis' regulating body over the last few months speaking out at wimbledon over the number of times she's asked to give a sample for drug testing.

>> i do know i'm always tested and i'm always getting tested. all the time. i didn't realize it was such a discrepancy with me as well as against the other players that they listed. it would be impossible for me not to feel some kind of way about that. >> reporter: just last month she says a doping control officer showed up to her florida home 12 hours before a scheduled appointment. when she wasn't there, it was designated a missed test. >> i was like, well, i'm totally not in the area because my hour actually a long time from now so completely so far away. >> reporter: williams says she's having ongoing conversations with the usada on the matter, including the ratio of the tests including her and other players on the tour. so far this year, she has been tested twice as many times as any other player, despite never having tested positive for a banned substance. >> i have played over 20 years, and i have always been extremely honest, and that's one thing i take pride on, especially having a daughter and having a kid. i'm never going to be able to look my kid in the eye and say

mom cheated or mom did something like that. that is totally irresponsible. if you're going to beat me, you're going to beat me and i'll congratulate you but i'm never ever going to take advantage and try to have an advantage over someone else. that's not who i am and it'll never be who i am. >> reporter: overnight williams posted again on twitter writing she's ready to do whatever it takes to have a clean sport. we did reach out to the anti-doping agency and women's tennis association for comment but we haven't heard back yet, cecilia. >> she really is a great role model. >> her big thing isn't the number of tests but wants everybody to be treated equally. >> thanks, diane. let's go to ginger now who is under water at the georgia aquarium in atlanta, georgia. i just realized i was smiling, but you can't see me. this is usually the time of the show where we do your "gma" moment and your "gma" moment actually comes from right here at the georgia aquarium. the 6.3 million gallon tank that i'm in with these huge beasts. look at that guy.

smiling through all that. we turn to our new series ready to launch. tomorrow is national intern day and we have tips to help you break into the industry of your dreams. our chief business correspondent rebecca jarvis back with all that. you went to lincoln headquarters. >> reporter: you know all about this, george. it's all about getting your foot in the door, but how do you make it into the room where it happens when you don't know anyone inside? we have the answers. it's the age old question, how do break into an industry when you don't have experience or connections. >> how difficult is it to find an internship? >> oh, it's absolutely miserable. >> i think intimidating is the

best word. it's really intimidating. >> reporter: meet isabel and miranda hoping to land their dream internships. you want to break into an entirely new industry. >> i spent most of my time previously interning for law firms or doing things in a sector that now i have no interest in so it kind of left me with a question of how do i enter film if i don't know anyone in film? >> it's very hard for me to break into several industries that i'm trying to break into. >> why is it difficult to break into those industries? >> i don't have any connections and then since i don't have prior experience within those fields, i can't put that on my resume as well. >> reporter: so we brought in linkedin career expert, blair decembrele. she's going to give them a profile makeover and some much needed advice. >> i think a lot of people look at internships like who do my parents know, who do my friends' parents know. what do you do if you're not connected? >> find ways to make those connections. one, tap your career center at your college or university.

reach out to people that have the type of roles that you might be interested in one day and just do an informational interview with them. >> reporter: miranda is looking for an internship in the film industry but potential employers might not know that. >> you need to take advantage of the headline and the summary. the headline is prime real estate. it's an opportunity for you to demonstrate what you're looking for. additionally, your summary, think about that as your elevator pitch. >> reporter: linkedin recommends a summary having at least 40 words to attract hiring managers. >> it's a great way to demonstrate and summarize who you are as a professional and who you want to be and what experience you have. >> reporter: now for isabel's profile. she's missing a few key details. >> you have incredible experience. but what you need to do is tell people what you did at these roles. demonstrate what experience that you have because likely it is relevant to the other roles. >> reporter: and one more very valuable tip from linkedin.

adding a picture to your profile, a photo of yourself, gets you about nine times more connection requests, so it really does pay to add that picture. >> good to know. we'll bring in our audience. you have your clickers. right? we'll start out with a true/false question. most internships lead to a job offer. true or false? >> what do we think, guys? okay, true. i'm impressed. they are right. they have faith and they do, yes. 59% of the time an internship leads to a full-time job offer, but there are some really important things you can do while you're on that job over the summer or whenever you're doing your internship, george. to really set yourself apart now. nobody expects you to know when you come into a job to know everything. but what they would like is a strong work ethic, proactive, eager, how can i help you? that's a big component and second of all, really taking advantage of once you're in the building, getting to know lots of people inside, sending those informal e-mail requests, can we have a chat? can we have a coffee? getting to know as many people. >> learn from everyone around you. >> exactly. >> second question. people rarely find a job through networking. is that true or false?

premiere and we were building season five but coming off season four and all the drama and, of course, the loss of a daughter, right. the thematic template of the show that courtney and curtis put together is that of family, the nucleus, the epicenter of the show and when you have a character or characters lose a daughter if you're talking about joseph, he's losing a niece and then obviously naturi and i are losing a daughter so i think season four was obviously that of i guess reform and him being in jail and trying to figure his life out. >> right. >> come to grips with all this bull crap even though he acts like he's the anti-hero hero. sometimes he's just the anti-hero but season five had to be a little bit more real and more authentic to what happens to a parent when they lose their kid and this guy is unraveling before our own eyes and so it's really interesting to play all the colors of him and to add

more colors even more colors this year in season five. >> i know. when you thought you saw her after she passed -- i don't want to give away too much. you want to see a little bit of "power" so we understand what we are tea talking about? here it is. take a look there at ginger zee underwater swimming with those massive sharks at the georgia aquarium in atlanta. that is a 6 million gallon tank.

four whale sharks are in there. the biggest fish on the planet. ginger, how is it going? >> oh, it's going great, george. look at this beautiful world around me. i'm really a part of their world and the largest whale shark that's ever recorded was 60 feet. so you know these guys are giants. each of their beautiful skins has those spotted beauty. they're different. like human fingerprints. so much to learn about whale sharks but guess what, i'm not the only one that got to learn or be in the tank. mr. wonderful did too from "shark tank." the sharks from "shark tank" are taking the plunge. in a new special for discovery, each business shark is vying for a $50,000 denation for the shark preservation group that they're representing. may the best shark win. kevin o'leary, aka mr. wonderful is all boardroom business, even in an underwater tank at the georgia aquarium. donning a custom wet suit and tie. >> all right.

nice suit. nice suit. >> all right. i'm ready to go. >> reporter: getting up close with the biggest fish on the planet. >> it's totally peaceful and very quiet. so you see the size of it. >> reporter: the whale shark. as long as 40 feet and weighing in up to 41,000 pounds, this endangered species makes a victoria white look like a guppy and mr. wonderful, well, fish food. >> how are you, buddy? shark meets shark. >> there you go. >> full throttle. >> reporter: real estate mogul barbara corcoran is cruising and competing along the florida coast tagging nurse sharks with scientists from the university of miami. >> well, he's going but he's a lot better looking. >> reporter: the critical data from these sensors will help researchers learn more about the habitats of the underwater predators. >> they're measuring them and taking samples of their blood to see how healthy they are. >> reporter: and maverick shark mark cuban taking it up a notch

saying aloha to galapagos sharks as he dives in 600 foot waters while learns about the dangers they face with commercial fishing called finning when poachers hunt shark fins for profit. meanwhile, daymond john diving in in the bahamas. >> go big or go home. >> reporter: coming face-to-face with tiger, nurse and lemon sharks. >> the tiger shark reminded me of myself, of course. >> it's about time to go feed some sharks. >> reporter: back to the most exotic location of them all downtown atlanta. mr. wonderful getting a chance to feed and snorkel with the whale shark, the biggest in ocean waters with the most teeth. all 3,000 of them. oh, we just had one of the big whale sharks pass over us. there's so many other species in here. it is such a cool place to be but i have to tell you, "shark discovery, one thing i've earn learned is these guys were

rescued from a taiwanese fish market so don't think they went and got them to bring them here. they live in this tank so that we can learn about them. they are mysterious beasts in general. there's so much about these to learn, not just about their size, but how they mate, where they mate and we've learned so far, we'll be sharing it with you all throughout the morning. here comes another huge one, guys. all that brought t-mobile. cecilia, back to you. you cooler and drier this summer. our becky worley tried t >> reporter: summertime, working out, it's hot so i love the idea of shirts that promise to keep you cool and comfortable, accelerate the removal of moisture from the skin and keep you cool even in the most hot and humid conditions. but these shirts can be price. we picked three. $13, $30 and $70. so let's get sweating. >> come in, ladies. >> oh, my, it is hot. >> it is hot. >> reporter: barry drewit designs a pressure cooker of sim wlags. >> why don't i start on this crazy gizmo? ready? >> yep. >> let's go. >> reporter: cassie, megan and i will work out in this room where the temperature is set to 100 degrees and 32ol we'll first in a regular cotton t-shirt. bike. >> you can do it. >> reporter: cross training and bike again. after 21 minutes the sweat

collected in our cotton shirts is weighed as a baseline then we cool down and change into the performance shirts. >> what we want to see is how much sweat these shirts team. >> reporter: these should wick away more sweat for evaporation but -- do i feel cooler? not really. i feel hot and sweaty. >> same for my workout partners. >> do you feel dramatically cooler? >> no. >> reporter: get this, i had a little more sweat in the cooling shirt, about 8% more and then megan and cassie's shirts had double the amount of sweat than their cotton shirts. >> did you feel cooler? >> in the beginning i did but then when i got on to the abs and lunges, i felt like i got warmer. >> same for me. i felt a lot bert than the first shirt but i didn't feel that cooling aspect at all. >> reporter: if the performance shirts are supposed to evacuate vap wait moisture better how come they all collected more sweat? we reached out to the parl

manufacturers. they told "gma" the shirts did what they're designed to do, move the sweat away from the skin and to the outerlaer. lian cotton shirts ric is and w moisture garment f eporaonth t t zo.n't humid room. so to take this into the real world, i work out in t heat. tracy, california, temperature, 85 degrees. with a little breeze the performance shirts do much better than the cotton shirt. this is the least expensive shirt and while i'm not sure i'm any cooler, it's doing a great job of evaporating the sweat. some push-up, lots of brisk walking and i'm definitely sweating. but it seems like it's evaporating really fast. see while stifling humidity may be tough for any shirt to overcome, lighter breathable fabrics can help in the dry heat to keep you from turning into a sweaty mess.

a huge issue around these technical shirts is price. will you be cooler if you buy something that costs more? well, that wasn't generally our experience but as with all clothing, you're paying for a lot of thing, comfort, style, durability, most of those are subjective and up to the buyer to determine what it's worth so, technical shirt because it's light, comfy, cute and maybe even no pit stains. >> that's a plus, becky. thanks a lot. coming up, max frost performs live.
