wedding guest. police say she stabbed brandon watkins with a steak knife. detectives thought that the army vet was having an affair and wanted to invite that woman to their wedding. investigators say she's given different stories about how watson died, including saying he might have stabbed himself. the attorney for brock turner is making an unusual argument to appeal his sex assault conviction. he was found guilty of assaulting an unconscious and intoxicated woman three years ago. now the attorney is arguing that the conviction should be overturned because his client was fully clothed and wanted only outercourse from the victim, not intercourse. turner was convicted of assault with intent to commit rape and penetration, but his lawyer says since turner was caught during the act fully clothed, the accusations fell short. on a lighter note, just when

containment. the fire is burning the community of idyllwild. flames broke out about noon and spread to 5,000 acres by sunset. mandatory evacuations have been ordered for the small community. and police have arrested the man who they believe started it deliberately. >> and yosemite has been closed. disappointed travelers have checked out of their cabins. some had planned visits months in advance. >> on the other side of the country, flash flooding is the problem. >> in pennsylvania, rivers and streams are flooding. forcing people to leave their homes. david kerley reports from hard hit pennsylvania. >> reporter: this gives you an example of what these citizens are having to deal with. the mailbox is nearly submerged.

but take a look over my older shoulder, and that is the duke street bridge. you can see trees that have been snapped, a dumpster in there, all kinds of debris have created a dam and closed not just duke street and its bridge but the roads around it as well. this is part of the problem here throughout central pennsylvania. and it's another day of flash flood watches that are on. we've seen rain already. more is expected, but they hope it isn't as much that floods and adds to this kind of problem. i'm david kerley in pennsylvania. >> let's head over to meteorologist paul williams. good morning, paul. >> good morning, kendis, diane. we'll still have a slice of rain for new york, boston and new england. we'll have a healthy helping of

showers for st. louis, into denver and rapid city. watching out for more thunderstorms for florida, myrtle beach and raleigh. sizzling once again, dallas, houston, san antonio, 120 degrees, dangerous heat and dry for the desert southwest, exacerbating the fire conditions and problems. arson is suspected in the devastating fires in greece. at least 80 people have died in those fires. hundreds have been injured. authorities suspect the fires were deliberately set. multiple fires seemed to start at once in different areas. breaking news right now. there are reports of an explosion outside the u.s. embassy in beijing. >> video shows smoke coming from the building. chinese reports say a woman was detained after spraying herself with gasoline in an apparent

attempt to set herself on fire. the embassy was not damaged. president trump and the european union have worked out a trade agreement. they will hold off on new tariffs and try to hammer out differences over u.s. tariffs on steel and aluminum. the eu has agreed to buy a lot of soybeans and import more of america's liquid natural gas. mike pompeo faced a barrage of questions about the summit in helsinki. lawmakers have serious doubts about how the white house is conducting foreign policy. in a contentious exchange, bob menendez demanded details on the private meeting between president trump and vladimir putin. >> has the president told you what he and president putin discussed in their two-hour, closed-door meeting in helsinki? >> president has a prerogative to choose who is in a meeting or not. >> i asked a simple question.

did he tell you whether or not what happened in those two hours? >> the predicate of your question implies that there was something improper with a one-on-one meeting. i completely disagree. >> the white house announced plans for the second summit would be postponed until next year. the kremlin had been cool to an idea of a visit but john bolton blamed the delay on, quote, russia witch hunt. the government is proposing new rules that would make it harder for students defrauded by their schools to get relief from their federal loans. betsy devos is replacing more lenient obama rules that she never implemented. students have an obligation to do research before picking schools. many critics say it encourages predatory for-profit institutions. a milwaukee police officer has died in the line of duty.

police were searching for a man wanted for gun and drug violations. when they found the suspect, he fired on officers. the suspect was arrested, not injured. the officer was a 17-year veteran of the force and a member of the special investigations division. an appeals court has ordered the release of surveillance video of the police response to the shooting in parkland. 17 people, including 14 students died in that shooting at that school on valentine's day. there is news on fighting alzheimer's. a new drug slowed the disease's progress by 30%. there are many scientists who say more testing is needed. there are also concerns about how the data was analyzed in the first place. alzheimer's affects 44 million people worldwide.

and facebook is looking for a bounce back day after a rough one. the company's stock fell 18%. officials blame privacy issues for slowing revenue growth in the second quarter and they're also expecting slower growth as they roll out new futures. kit kat's fight with the european union is shaping up to be a losing battle. >> nestle has been trying to trademark the four-finger look in europe. a european court ruled against nestle and said kit kat's shape is not recognized in all of the eu's 28 countries. >> the decision allows a norwegian candy maker whose product looks just like kit kat to continue selling their product. >> i'm sure like in montenegro they can recognize it. >> kit kat!

ch check out this mini tornado in action at a music festival in germany. this was in a camping area north of dusseldorf. festival goers scrambled to gather belongings before they were sucked into the sky. the triple crown winner, justify, is calling it a career. the colt is retiring, a bad ankle contributing to the decision. he became the 13th horse to win the triple crown and the first unbeaten winner since seattle slew in 1977. he will still keep making money for his owners. his breeding rights were sold for reportedly $60 million. wow.
