lunchtime and this afternoon, hot temperatures expected inland, up to the mid-90s for the warmest locations. around the bay, we'll see 70s. at the coast, the sea breeze and on shore flow keeps things cool and in the 50s throughout the day. sunset is at 8:20. i'll let you know if there are changes to the forecast. >> thank you. developing news this morning, cal fire estimates there are more than 300 fires burning across california this morning. crews in northern california are focused on four fires right now, the carr fire in and around redding, the river and ranch fires in lake county and the steele fire in napa county. governor brown declared states of emergency in counties. fires have destroyed homes. this is video of homes near lake berryessa where 158 acres burned. the fire is 10% contained.

our reporter spoke with evacuees. >> reporter: as firefighters began making progress on the steele fire, the nature of the inferno is taking its toll. >> i have never seen it like this before. here we go again. >> reporter: evacuation orders are nothing new for stewbend pr neighborhood up in flames is upsetting, to say the laes. >> this is a small community. we know one another. it's very devastating, very sad. >> a total of eight homes damaged or destroyed. the fire started around 4:30. it was attacked by ground and air. >> we were able to get enough in here quickly to hold it to that number. one structure is too many. >> reporter: 100 residents forced to evacuate. >> just the pets, nothing else. didn't care about anything else.

it was close. i don't know if my house is there. >> reporter: the cause unknown, fwu dry brush and heat helped fuel conditions. >> we are accustomed to it. it is normal, but growing up here, this is what you get. >> boaters had to pack up and leave. >> it's a bummer. i feel sorry for the people who lost homes more than anything. >> reporter: napa county, abc 7 news. a growing wildfire changed residents in lake county out of their homes. the river fire and ranch fire started as separate wildfires friday. they combined to become the complex fire. new evacuation orders were issued yesterday. the southern lakeside hospital is in the evacuation zone and has been evacuated. patients there have been transported to other hospitals nearby. the red cross opened a new shelter at twin pine casino.

look at this video from lake port, a community under evacuation advisory. it shows the enormity of the fire and what firefighters are up against. we have updated evacuation information on our website, abc7news.com. let's check in with our meteorologist frances dinglasan, tracking the conditions on the fire lines. >> we'll start with the steele fire and the berryessa area. these are the coolest temperatures we will see. relative humidity will drop. gusts 11 miles per hour. the ranch and river fires, winds, right now, coming from the north at 13 miles per hour. the winds will pick up again this afternoon. temperatures will rise. this is going to also affect air quality for portions of the north bay. in addition, there is a heat advisory in that area where we

will see triple digit heat this afternoon. so, not great news for firefighters. hot temperatures, low relative humidity and some afternoon gupss. carolyn? >> thank you. a desperate situation in shasta county as the carr fire burnses out of control. it's burned 84,000 acres, more than twice the size of redding itself. more than 500 buildings have been destroyed, 5,000 more are threatened. it's 5% contained. the death toll stands at five after a great grandmother and two children died in the fire. abc 7 news reporter, dionne has the latest. >> they found her with the children, from what i have been told. you know, that shows she did everything she could until the end. >> reporter: a close family friend of melanie and her two great grandchildren recalls how much joy the children brought to

the world. >> james wanted to be his great granddaddy. his sister just glowed. >> the horror of the death at the hands of the carr fire. >> it happened so fast. >> reporter: before the flames reached the home, her husband of 30 years, ed, had gone out to buy supplies and help others whose homes were threatened by flames. >> in doing that, in that self-less act, he lost everything he cared about. >> reporter: a neighbor recalls how swift and strong the flames were, coming out of nowhere. >> we could see the flames and our fear was we were going to get trapped. >> reporter: it was too late. a gas line burst into flames. what remain now are memories and helping a widower get back on his feet. >> a lot has been happening. he's a stoic man. he won't break in front of others. even now, he's trying to be that

strong man and get everyone through it. >> the family set up a gofundme campaign, the only verified one online. we have a link to it on our website, abc7news.com. there is a hot line to report people who are missing. it's 530-225-4277. so far, about a dozen people have been reported missing or unaccounted for. the sheriff is asking anyone who evacuated to check in with friends and family. this morning, we are getting a closer look at the destruction around redding. the fire destroyed hundreds of homes and is not just the flames causing the damage. abc 7 news reporter, laura anthony has more from redding. >> reporter: a couple blocks from where dozens of homes have burned. we can show you a demonstration of what the winds did. more than 70 miles per hour that took these trees down, toppled them, as the fire was raging a

couple blocks away. in this case, this tree actually hit the house. it's an inferno that doubled in size, the kind that destroys nearly everything in its path. so far, the carr fire shows no signs of letting up. near iko, fire crews focus on protecting lives and property like this home on a hill, where the residents evacuated in northwest redding and appears all but a few homes are destroyed along swayze drive, leaving remnants of life here before the fire. the scramble to save animals continued. in this case, a horse named good boy.or he help? >> very grateful. i want to see what's going to come out of it. >> i had a house in '97 and lost everything. i have been wanting to pay back. this is the way i have been able to pay back. >> we are out here doing our

business. >> reporter: this volunteer says he helped save dozens of animals and one man. >> i went into the neighborhood. every house was on fire. got him pulled out. protected him with a garden hose until an engine come come by. they took over there. got his american flag and gave it to his wife. i promised that to her. >> reporter: here is a look at some of the damage left behind. they will return to their homes grateful they didn't burn, but surprised by what the winds left behind. near redding, laura anthony, abc 7 news. yosemite national park is normally filled with tourists. this year, they are closed as firefighters keep the ferguson fire at bay. it's burned 40,000 acres on the edge of yosemite. full containment of the blaze is not expected until mid august.

welcome back, everyone. 5:13 on this sunday morning. a cool start to the morning in san francisco. there was briz l this morning as i headed into work. what does the rest of the day look like for the city and where you live? francis will be along shortly with the full accuweather forecast. we expect to learn more, soon, about the death of a woman at a bart station. bart police responded to the dublin-pleasanton station to reports of an unresponsive woman. she was just released from jail and declared dead at the scene. bart officials say the woman had a bump on her head. they did not see other signs of

foul play. this follows, as you know, the death of an 18-year-old stabbed at the mcarthur bart station one week ago. we are hearing from the family of a man killed at a daly city construction site. a 34-year-old husband and father. abc 7 news reporter, amanda has the story. >> reporter: the death of a construction worker is being felt far beyond the job si he was a dedicated father of four, devoted husband and devout family man. >> right now, everyone is in shock. no one believes it. >> reporter: that is the victim's niece. her uncle worked construction for nearly a year. friday was the first time he reported to martin street in daly city. they were working on a 24-inch concrete storm drainpipe for a

housing development when a trench gave way. he didn't make it out. working to recover his body went on 12 hours. after combing through the dirt and debris, they were finally able to locate and recover his body. you can see the aftermath of the recovery effort in the trench in the distance. the site is deemed dangerous. work is prohibited. for now, cal osha is looking into it and the family is planning the funeral. >> the goal would be to hopefully get enough funds to send him to mexico to be buried next to his dad. [ inaudible ] >> reporter: a new, heart breaking reality for his young children, who instead of celebrating dad's 35th birthday, wednesday, are preparing to say good-bye. >> the oldest, she's 13, 5, 3 5 and 1. >> reporter: in daily city, nbc

7 news. a migrant family reunification took stage over the weekend. abc 7 news was in burling game to take a stand yesterday. lemonade stands raised money to raise awareness of the 700 children separated from their parents. >> moms of america, over 17,000 of us took it on. lemonade stands across the nation. we have confirmed stands in 35 states. people are posting pictures online. their kids are involved. a wonderful, family event. >> the money will go to project that organizes lawyers for free legal services to immigrant families. well, nearly 28,000 runners will hit the streets of san francisco this morning. it's the 41st annual san francisco marathon and kicks off in 15 minutes.

this is video showing barriers going up along the route yesterday. runners are gathering at the start line at mission street and the embarcadaro. we have a map showing the route. runners will dash along the golden gate bridge and run past at&t park. back out live now, there are a lot of street closures in effect. give yourself plenty of time if you have to be somewhere in the city this morning. good morning, i'm meteorologist, frances dinglasan. we'll head over to the redding area where there's a red flag warning in effect through tomorrow. high temperatures. there could be gusts up to 30 miles an hour and low humidity throughout the day. current conditions right now, cooler, 69 degrees. winds are gusting 4 miles per hour but pick up this afternoon and this evening.

now, redding, unfortunately, is going to be hot all week long. we have temperatures that will be well above 100 degrees. in fact, 108 expected today. still, over triple digits throughout the week. also, just a heads up, a reminder, there's an air quality alert in effect for the central part of the state, due to the ferguson fire. you can see how widespread the smoke affected the state from yosemite to bakersfield. it is unhealthy air. if you are sensitive to smoke, limit your time outdoors. we have the fog and low clouds. we had to use our wipers in san francisco and the same thing will happen tomorrow. we see the low clouds spreading into the bay and parts of the east bay. current temperatures right now, mostly in the 50s. san francisco, 52. navato, 46. clear lake is and los gatos right now. we in a few

minutes. right now, temperatures are in the low 50s. we have fog, drizzle in san fran wl mostly cloudy. temperatures will be on the cool side for the next few hours in the low to mid-50s by 11:00. midday, we see a break in some of the clouds and then temperatures will start to climb up. there will be that sea breeze of 10-20 miles per hour. if you are running in the race or watching, grab a jacket. we have a giants game today. it will be breezy at 1:00, we hit 60, climbing up to 64 degrees by this afternoon. here are the highs today. very close to yesterday's numbers. we are stuck in the summertime pattern. we have upper 50s at the coast. half-moon bay, 57. san francisco, 64. oakland, for the last day of the art and soul festival, you warm up to 73 degrees. san jose, mid-80s.

redding, the river ranch fires in lake county and the steele fire in napa county. governor jerry brown declared states of emergency in three counties. fires there have destroyed homes. in napa county, homes have been evacuated in berryessa after a wildfire broke out yesterday afternoon. eight homes have been destroyed or damaged. that fire burned at least 150 acres. it is 10% contained. evacuation orders expanded dramatically because of wildfires there. the mendocino fires scorched 14,000 acres and led to widespread evacuations. residents in lake port and upper lake have been advised to evacuate. the most devastating fire, the carr fire, right now, is exploding in size.

it's burned nearly 84,000 acres and it is showing no signs of slowing down. abcs alex stone has the latest. >> reporter: the fires, so far unstoppable. flames racing hundreds of buildings gone. >> you cannot predict where the fire is going next. >> reporter: new evacuations ordered as people living near the carr fire are told to get out with your life. >> if you feel like you need to leave and nobody's told you, leave. there's a reason the hair on the back of your neck stands up, sometimes. you should listen to that. >> reporter: over 3,000 firefighters are throwing everything they can at these fierce flames. the fire so massive, smoke can be seen from space. so powerful, it's producing fire tornadoes of flame, ash and combustible gas. over 80,000 acres burned over 500 buildings destroyed. nearly 5,000 more threatened.

38,000 people forced to flee their homes. >> i had, literally everything i can think of that is valuable and shoved it in my car as fast as possible. >> reporter: the fire deadly, killing two firefighters and a family says a great grandmother and two children killed. at least a dozen people are missing. at a community meeting, a promise for residents. >> we are doing everything we can to get those areas secure and safe, to get you back into your homes and area so that you can make an assessment of the damages. >> reporter: alex stone, abc news, redding, california. >> unfortunately, redding is not going to get relief from the triple digit weather anytime soon. the temperatures there are expected to reach 100 degrees each of the next seven days. it's been the same for the past two weeks. this created near ideal conditions for fires to thrive.

that carr fire is hitting close to home for us here at abc 7 news. we have staff members who are redding natives as well as our former executive producer kerry. kerry has been posting videos to facebook on what she's been seeing. >> this whole subdivision is gone. i think i have seen a couple houses at the entrance. the second entrance at land park off buena. a couple houses were good. everything, once you get inside and turn on ferington, looks like it is gone. here is a house in front of us. again, fire with no -- the question i think everyone has is why certain homes geto stay sta. in a second, i'm going to come up on one that is still standing. other than that, the neodste.

oh, this is just heart breaking. >> many bay area firefighters are on the front lines. alameda county firefighter shared this video. you can see it illustrating how extreme conditions are in redding and the danger that crews are facing. police say looters are now targeting evacuated neighborhoods in redding. several incidents are being reported every day. >> people driving through neighborhoods, going around the roadblocks, shouldering doors, getting into residents that maybe haven't been burnt. they are looking to steal items from the residents. >> the police chief says they have identity fied several suspects, but no arrests, yet. patrols are being increased in the neighborhoods, specifically looking for looters. california's attorney general is warning of price gouging for gas, housing and other essential services during these times of emergencies.

people who lost everhing d country fires are hoping to pay it forward. volunteers are collecting donations for animals and their owners near redding. abc 7 news reporter is in sonoma with the details. >> we feel their pain. we truly do. >> barbara knows what it's like to run from a fire. she nearly lost her prize horses moose and boomer last october when the wildfires destroyed the stable and her riding school. >> time to pay it forward. so many people helped me out during the fire. >> reporter: they want to help evacuees and their animals of the carr fire collecting donations of food to send up north. >> horses, dogs, cats, cows, chickens, goats, whatever, they all need to eat. >> reporter: she's put out the word for donations on facebook and making pleas in person. >> anything you can think of someone would need for their pet or livestock is what we are looking for. >> brocco's old bar and feed

energy, will or commitment to do something she reveres. her last day will be august 22nd. they will discuss the process for a replacement for the remaining two years of her term. one city in contra costa county could be a step closer to a medical marijuana dispensary. the planning commission is expected to decide tomorrow whether to recommend approving the permit. if approved, the cannabis dispensary would share a building with an athletic training facility. whatever the decision, the city council can appeal. the commission meets at 7:00 tomorrow night. after michael cohen's claim that president trump knew about the 2016 trump tower meeting with russian contacts, intelligence committee member senator james langford will appear on "this week." you can watch the interview on "this week" at 8:00 this

this time, we are showing you a live shot,anafl here. you can see the gray skies. santa rosa, the cooler locations, low 50s. navato cooler, 48 degrees. vacaville is 56 degrees. here is how it plays out today. we have the cloud cover mostly along the coast in parts of the bay. by lunchtime, we'll see more clearing. the high clouds are passing through the afternoon. that's from the monsoonal moisture near the california, southern end of the state sweeping through, starting tonight and the next couple days. it's not going to have a big effect on temperatures. they are high clouds passing through. look for upper 50s once again at the coast with that on shore flow keeping things cool. san francisco, warming up to 64 degrees. oakland, all the events in the east bay, comfortable. sunshine this afternoon, temperatures in the low 70s and freemont warming up to 77.
