he told them he was picking things up from a family member's house but officers say he did not live there. if you're just joining us, good morning to you. quick update on weather and traffic and start with mike. >> take a look at what's going on. we'll head north and get back to the winds. red flag warning. the high fire danger continues for about 143,000 people from mount shasta to corning which does include lakehead, redding and red bluff. let's take a look at what's going on as far as the winds. or temperatures. especially around lake port, upper 90s and mid 90s a few more days after that and then down to 87 by sunday. hopefully the trend continues. the winds are going t afternoon and into the evening hours, and they get up around 20 to 25 miles per hour tomorrow. we're going to definitely have some serious issues there and we have the poor air quality down to our south in the san joaquin valley. those areas and the state's poor

air quality coming up next. a look at the roads this morning, mike, overall we are fairly quiet, westbound 580 tracy to dublin in the yellow at 45 minutes, westbound antioch to concord, 14, san rafael to san francisco no issues for you that's coming in at 15 minutes and here is a look at the drive southbound 101. not going to have too much company. next traffic update right around 4:40. the latest on the carr fre in shasta county it is huge. firefighters believe they are making some progress after what was a devastating weekend. >> six people are now confirmed dead including two firefighters, several more are missing. cal fire says the fire in redding has burned more than buildis and thousands more aree0 threatened. it is only 17% contained. amo melody bledsoe, james

roberts and 4-year-old emily roberts. they died after fire swept through their home. we are hearing from melody's husband ed and how he tried to save them. >> i talked to junior on the phone until he died. he just kept saying grandpa, he said, come get me. he said come and get me. the fire is coming in the back door. i said i'm right down the road. he said come and get us. emily said, i love you, grandpa. grandma says i love you grandpa. and junior says i love you. come and get us. i said i'm on my way. i said -- he talked until he died. i tried to call him back. it went to nothing. poor babies and my wife. what did i do wrong? >> just gives you chills. they did not have time to get out. just awful to hear. here's an eerie sign in an area destroyed by the carr fire.

this lake used to be filled with boats. reporter laura anthony has more from redding. >> reporter: at whiskey town lake the carr fire burned all around and right to the water's edge. even destroying dozens of boats as they sat on the water. the wreckage of most of those that burned now just a blur beneath the water's surface. >> they let one in. >> reporter: the people who live here are resilient like raymond a resident of merry lake back at home. >> i'm kind of hanging out waiting for the power to come on. i had a bunch of food in my refrigerator and freezer and and didn't want to lose it. i had a generator and more or less took this opportunity to try to keep everything going. >> reporter: neighbor reggie has been here since the fire started. >> what's that been like? >> not fun. there's no power. no air conditioning. no fans. no nothing. >> why didn't you leave? >> because i want to make sure this house stays here. >> reporter: laura anthony, abc

7 news. two people under arrest for suspected looting in redding. >> 19-year-old jack vanning and jade ball were taken into custody. officers were patrolling when a homeowner flagged them down to report shoot prints. a second home was broken into. the suspects were found nearby with items that tied them to the burglaries. we are staying on top of the fires burning in northern california. at 5:00 a.m., abc 7 news anchor dion limb will join us live from redding and the latest on the carr fire including the conditions firefighters and residents are facing today. also find updated information on our website, abc7news.com and always on the abc 7 news app. happening today the suspect accused of killing his safeway co-worker in santa clara is scheduled to appear in court. 25-year-old gage mccartney set to be arraigned this afternoon. the body of 54-year-old ray hyde was found across the street from the store ten days ago. mccartney was scheduled to be

arraigned friday but excused because of an illness. in the court statement of facts mccartney says the two got into an altercation and he says he squeezed hyde's neck with his hands causing hyde to fall to the ground and he said he decided to walk home. hyde's body was found the next morning. also happening today, a group of bay area mothers will hold a three-day hunger strike in oakland to demand justice for migrant families. moms rising is calling for children to be reunited with their family. the government under a thursday deadline to reunify 2500 children separated from their parents and more than 1800 have been reunited but hundreds remain apart. the strike starts at 8:00 this morning outside the oakland federal building. president trump is threatening to shut down the government over immigration. in a tweet he says, i would be willing to shut down the government in the democrats do not give us the votes for border security which includes the wall. the chairman of the republican congressional campaign committee says congress would keep the government open with less than

100 days from the midterm elections congress is scrambling to secure $5 billion for border security in the next funding bill. they need to lock in the votes before the money runs out september 30th. construction crews are starting a year-long projects to inside suicide barriers on the golden gate bridge. work started at the marine ig, big crates of equipment delivered over the past few weeks and inside are pieces of the platform that willen constructed underneath the span so workers can safely install the suicide prevention net. you will not be able to actually see the construction when you cross the bridge. the suicide barrier projects is expected to be done by january of 2021. happening today, first round matches begin in the silicon valley tennis tournament. it's the lead off event to the u.s. open in new york. used to be held at stanford but officials moved it to get more exposure for corporate sponsors and expand amenities to fans and

it's hot in many areas, fresno and palm springs over 100 degrees. 91 in yosemite with our best threat of thunderstorms. it's going to be hazy just about everywhere outside the bay area today. all the way through at least saturday, up in tahoe. happening today, the man accused of killing five people at a maryland newspaper will make his first court appearance. 38-year-old jared ramos is accused of opening fire in the newsroom of the capital gazette last month. a grand jury indicted him on 23 charges and he has not entered a plea. he reportedly had a long, antagonistic relationship with the paper. the gazette had written about him pleading guilty to harassing a woman. a violent week in oakland police officers took on a team of men and women in basketball. kate larson has the story. >> reporter: oakland pd ditched the gun beltsz and badges in favor of something a little more

be around the state. misty spots, cool and cloudy and the middle of the week we'll see a little cooling trend inland. notice pretty much got the same pattern. look at the clouds coming up from the south as we have high pressure to our east and the low to our west. the periphery once again is going to be the warmest but not as warm as it was last week. barely into the 90s around morgan hill and gilroy. we have 68 millbrae, 72 san mateo. we'll get to 80 in redwood city. most of us in the mid to upper 70s on the peninsula. upper 50s to low 60s along the coast. mid '60s downtown and south san francisco 64 to 65 degrees. to the north bay we'll have 80s. over on the east bay around the low to mid 70s. inland the temperatures once again in the 90 degree range. toight see we'll cool off nicely back into the mid to upper 50s. my accuweather seven-day forecast. when i said minor cooling just a couple degrees inland.

first pitch at 7:05, a cool 63 degrees, dropping down to about 58 degrees under a partly sunny sky. the a's are 6-4 in the last ten games. the air quality around the state, coming up next. here's reggie with more news. thanks, mike. one city in contra costa county could be a step closer to having medical marijuana dispensary. the martinez planning commission expected to decide today whether to recommend approve a conditional use permit. the cannabis dispensary would share a building with an athletic training facility. whatever they decide the city council can appeal. the commission meets at 7:00 tonight. vermont senator bernie sanders made medicare for all a cornerstone of his presidential campaign and a study shows how much that would cost. >> government health care spending would increase by more than $32.5 trillion over ten years to provide medicare for everyone. that's from a study by libertarian policy institute at george mason university.

the study found the proposal would deliver savings on drug costs and administration but increase demand would drive up spending. sanders calls the study misleading. you are never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast faergts. here's a look at what's going on as far as live doppler 7. we have clouds and a little bit of mist, but i'm going to show you some of the current conditions up around some of our fires and they're very good this morning with temperatures in the 60s and 70s like around lake berryessa and the humidity 64%. we like to see the winds a little slower but the temperature is down compared to what it's going to be during the afternoon hours. all the 90s will taper into the 80s. 74 right now near redding, winds are lighter but the humidity we would like it to be better and 63%. we're going to be in the 100s through saturday. looking at the poor air quality it's already out there or it's going to be that way for fresno, as you head towards sacramento, we're going to be fine because of the sea breezep and then the

poor air quality will continue through the northern parts of the valley into reno. taking a look at the roads this morning, we have one issue to get to in the north bay, actually want to correct myself, i said this crash happened around 2:15, it was back around 11:30 last flight. a solo vehicle fatality collision. the vehicle left the roadway and all southbound lanes of 101 past cloverdale are closed. not a backup at this point. a quick detour you will have to take. things aren't too slow in the area right now. westbound 580 at north flynn tough spot to have anything blocking. hearing about debris blocking a couple lanes through the altamont pass through tracy. a group of roller skaters in san francisco fell short of breaking a guinness world record. abc 7 news was at hunters point where skaters from two clubs tried breaking the record for the longest chain of skaters. wheels. i love that name.
