wildfires burning across california have destroyed more than 200,000 acres. >> nearly half of that is from one fire in the redding area. we will take you there live along with full coverage on the wildfires burning in the north bay. >> it's our big story this morning. good morning to you on this monday, july 30th. jessica and natasha have the day off. alexis is here. >> yeah. >> thank you. nice to be here, reggie. you are never more than seven minutes away from the accuweather forecast. let's get over to meteorologist mike nicco. >> thank you very much. all right. let's talk about what's going to happen here and sprinkle throughout the morning forecast. we will talk more about the fires across the north bay and the air quality across the entire state. we are like the oasis in the desert. we have the sea breeze. see the winds blowin from the ocean inland and you look at the cloud cover out there right now, there's actually some mist to deal with. also our air quality not a concern. our fire danger not a concern. here's a concern as you see some of the haze and mist hanging over the san mateo bridge.

mid to upper 50s, very cool, 50s at the coast, inland we'll go from 78 to 88. warming frietrend from noon to . most of us in the 50s at the coast, 60s and 70s towards 7:00. high cloud and hazy sunshine this afternoon. over to alexis who is double dipping this morning, traffic this time. >> doing okay here. one incident today and that is a sig alert in the north bay. southbound 101 past cloverdale. you're seeing the purple that means the road is closed and all lanes blocked due to a fatal crash around 11:30 last night. there is a detour, not much of a backup approaching that. we will keep an eye on that for later this morning. live look at the richmond/san rafael bridge. so far so good here as well. light volumes pretty much the way all of our traffic cameras look at this point. we are getting new video from the air of the massive carr fire burning in and around redding. this was shot thursday night and you can see the flames ripping

through a neighborhood. erratic winds led to theire growing out of control. the death toll and homes destroyed continues to increase. >> yeah. this is devastating. abc 7 news reporter dion limb has been in redding since friday and joins us live this morning. hi, dion. >> alexis and reggie, good morning. yes, we are in one of the hardest hit areas of redding, 15 minutes northwest of downtown and the smell of smoke is still so thick in the air. as we were driving along this morning, we came along this giant tree just toppled on its side undoubtedly by the high winds and flames which also took down this home you see behind me. now nearly 40,000 people have been evacuated since the fire started and for many this has become their new normal. sh fire spreading to om cal fire 95,000 be acres but containment, the god news, has more than tripled toicture

come from a marina at whiskey town lake where you can see there dozens of burned out boats one of the most badly damaged area the berry lake subdivision. police are still concerned about hot spots and live gas lines. many homeowners were turned away. >> we're anxious to get home. >> to get home. my children and our cats are in lake california and we've been staying in an rv part. we didn't have anybody that could take all of us. >> reporter: now out of the devastation stories of resilience as well. we learned of a sheriff's deputy who lost his home early thursday, but has continued to serve his community, helping with the evacuations. we've met so many selfless souls out here in shasta county. now, a sixth life we have learned has been claimed by these fires. the sheriff tells me the man who died refused to evacuate his home, just another example of

how quickly these flames can move and how by not evacuating you're not only putting your own life at risk but also the lives of first responders. in redding this morning, dion lim, abc 7 news. >> thank you. this 14 foot albino python among the many missing pets after the carr fire. look at this. it belongs to redding reptiles, the owner is trying to find a home for 200 other rep tiles. closer to home cal fire is combing two fires and calling it the mendocino complex fire. the ranch and river fires have burned a combined 30,500 acres which is 10% containment. more than 10,000 structures are threatened and six homes destroyed. more mandatory evacuations were issued last night. abc 7 news reporter lilian kim has the latest from lakeport. >> reporter: the flames are getting closer to can clear lake and many of the towns alongside it are under mandatory evak

wayses. main street is a ghost town. there are few who are staying put. >> if it stays on the other side of 29 i'm not worried. if it were to jump 29, i think i would be more worried about it. >> reporter: ashes falling all over town, those who have left are doing what they can to insure their homes remain standing. the carr family is heading the warning and spent the afternoon packing as much as they could. >> there's so many people, kids, walk around, it's smoky, ashes everywhere. the tree. i mean it's sad. >> reporter: shelters have opened up, many evacuees gathered at twin pine casino in middletown. >> i've been in a flood before but never been in a fire. am i going to go home to a bunch of ashes or my house? >> reporter: now we're here and it's just take a deep breath. it's just one of those. you don't realize how upsetting it is until you are in the

it happens so fast. >> there's a beam underneath the house that caught on fire and it's red tagged. i have to go. and i'm just going to do my best. >> no one has been hurt and the cause of that fire is still under investigation. we know the identity of the firefighter who died battling the ferguson fire west of yosemite. >> he's been identifieds as 33-year-old ryan hughes a captain of the arrowhead interagency hot shots and originally from hawaii. a tree fell on to him yesterday morning while engaging in a tactical operation. earlier this month a bulldozer operator died in the fire. here are some new photos from east of yosemite. you can see how poor the air quality is right now and in some places you can only see about a half mile ahead. full containment is not expected until august 15th. yosemite is expected to reopen on friday. you can find immediate fire updates on your devices by downloading our abc 7 news app and enabling push alerts.

flip the metering lights on. next time you catch a flight you could be tracked even physically followed by air marshals even if you aren't on a watch list and have done nothing wrong. the program called quiet skies, although just hearing about it now, it's been going on for years. matt keller like for us at the san jose airport. matt? >> good morning, rej, reggie. it was a secret program until now. even air marshals aren't fans of what they're doing. what are they doing? the quiet skies program specifically targets u.s. citizens not in the terrorist screening database or suspected of wrongdoing, according to the tsa. as first revealed, under the program thousands of unsuspecting americans have been watched by armed, undercover air marshal. they took notes on what they do, who they talk to, if they use the bathroom. >> we're seeing examples of the tsa following around people who

nice refreshing change. a look at low clouds, never completely leave the bay today from the richmond/san rafael bridge to the san mateo bridge. it's going to be cloudy along most of the coast during the afternoon hours. let's see what it does to structures. we've got the 70s around milpitas and sunnyvale. los gatos, 90s, morgan hill and gilroy. 80, the exception. most of us in the 70s on the peninsula today. very comfortable weather. upper 50s to low 60s along the breezy coast and only mid 60s around downtown and south san francisco. sausalito. low to mid 80s most of the north bay. cloverdale, ukiah, ones degrees. temperatures once again. the breezies keep us in the upper 60s, low upper 70s along the east bay shore. upper 80s to low 90s in the inland neighborhoods. mid 50s to low 60s.

my accuweather seven-day forecast we are really locked into this pattern that will see some minor cooling, possibly as we get a more stubborn sea breeze for thursday and friday and then saturday and sunday. temperatures close to average. not much of a change. alexis? >> sounds good. not much has changed with the commute this morning either. we're still looking at our one and only blocking issue in the north bay here. southbound 101 past cloverdale. we still have all lanes blocked due to a sig alert. solo vehicle fatal collision around 11:30 last night. we don't have an estimate on when lanes will reopen but an oil spill and some debris involved too. they're still working on the cleanup process. about six hours later. we are seeing some fog out there this morning. i saw some on the bay bridge on my commute today and seeing a little bit here on the golden gate bridge. as of right now we don't have any dense fog advisories issued. >> another person has driven off a cliff in big sur and the driver has died. the crash happened six miles south of where an oregon woman

over the weekend. cal fire is calling it the mendocino complex fire. a a amy hollyfield joins us live with more. >> 10,000 have been ordered to evacuate. power knocked out for 40,000, making the triple-digit temperatures uncomfortable. the fire forced evacuations on the west and north shores of clearlake. the fire is now at 30,500 acres. the town of lakeport is empty and has ash falling on it. the fire has destroyed six homes. the sheriff told residents it is getting ugly and time to go. >> sundays, so many kids and people walk around. it's smoky, ashes everywhere. the trees. it's sad. >> reporter: look at the lake. it is so quiet, you do not see the usual summer activity going on right now. this fire is 10% contained. we doxpt un the

fire and any progress they made later this morning. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. speaking of lakeport, police are patrolling the evacuated areas trying to keep homes safe. this man is behind bars. officers arrested 35-year-old sean moreyson in an evacuation area in lakeport. police say they found him looking into windows of evacuated homes. officers say he told them he was picking things up up from a family member's house but officers say he did not live there. firefighters believe they are making some progress after a devastating weekend. >> six people are now confirmed dead including two firefighters and several more this morning are still missing. live to redding, here is a look from turquoise court, one of the hardest hit neighborhoods. lake redding estates. see the devastation left behind. home after home. all you see are some of the

foundations and fire places. cal fire says the fire in redding has burned more than 95,000 acres, nearly 150 square miles, destroyed more than 800 buildings. thousands more are threatened. it is only 17% contained. among the victims in the carr fire a woman and her two great grandchildren. this is melody bledsoe, james roberts and 4-year-old emily roberts. they died after fire swept through their keswick estates home. we are hearing from melody's husband ed and his heart reas wrenching account of how he tried to save them. >> i talked to junior on the phone until he died. he just kept saying grandpa, he said, come get me. he said come and get me. the fire is coming in the back door. i said i'm right down the road. he said come and get us. emily said, i love you, grandpa. grandma says i love you grandpa. and junior says i love you. come and get us. i said i'm on my way.

i said -- he talked until he died. i tried to call him back. it went to nothing. poor babies and my wife. what did i do wrong? >> just gives you chills. they did not have time to get out. >> the car koig has -- carr fire have destroyed boats at whiskey town lake. >> the people of the town are resilient. one has not left and is waiting for the power to come back on where he lives. he's using generators until that happens. his neighbor has been there since the fire started. >> what's that been like? >> not fun. no power so there's no air conditioning no fans, no nothing. >> why didn't you leave? >> i want to make sure this house stays here. >> tough choices for these people who live in these areas. he says he ran out of food, but his neighbors helped out and

made him breakfast. >> as soon as we received updated numbers from the carr fire and sending out alerts for local evacuations and updates on the abc 7 news app. customize what alerts you want when. developing news, people at the scene of a triple shooting in antioch where one is dead and two others went to the hospital. >> it happened at 1:20 in the parking lot of applebee's near the antioch bart station. police arrived to find two victims, one pronounced dead at the scene and a third person driven to the hospital by friends. the investigation is in its early stages and so far no word on what led up to the shootings. new overnight a woman under arrest after a chase on 280. this porsche led officers from hillsborough to san jose reaching speeds above 140 miles an hour. california highway patrol officers tried to pull the car over near black mountain road just after 1:30. the driver took off and that chase went on for more than 30

miles until san jose police put out spike strips. the woman eventually surrendered near the winchester off ramp and the car had no plates. 130 miles per hour. that's a fast one. imagine how many miles she covered in that. let's talk about what's going on. we have coverage of fog that's developing across the north bay. ook at this, around santa rosa,. visibility around a mile. going to keep an eye on this as it could get thicker during mth morning. low to mid 50s throughout the north bay. the rest of our neighborhoods we have low 50s around san francisco and daly city, mid to upper 50s for the rest of us. you get to warmer temperatures around the south bay, brentwood and tracy mid 60s. let's go back to the south bay, 87, that is pretty cloudy outside. less likelihood of you getting drizzle here. if you're on a ferry we have gusty breezes through the delta

and a summer sprea taking mass transit. the only thing not average the cloud cover. mxture of low clouds and high clouds. low clouds will go away but the high clouds will take the place. filtered sunshine and haze in the north bay. cloudy and 55 in the morning. noon 67. then in the mid 80s during the afternoon hours. the quick drop down to 69 by 8:00. in the east bay valleys warm from time to time. at 8:00, 62. we're near 80 at noon. and upper 80s to low 90s during the afternoon hours and our last stop we'll go back down to the south bay where we have temperatures around 80 for the better part of the afternoon hours and the high clouds will drop us down to 81 by 7:00. ought to be a gorgeous sunset with the high clouds. imagine driving 140 miles per hour? >> no, i definitely can't. especially with police chasing you. doesn't sound like a good idea. >> could we go that fast if we wanted to on the roads? >> some areas, they're pretty empty so far. our one and only incident in

more than 2500 children separated from their parents. hundreds remain apart. the strike starts at 8:00 this morning outside the oakland federal building. president trump threatening to shut down the government over immigration. a tweet he says, i would be willing to shut down government if the democrats do not give us the votes for border security which includes the wall. the chairman of the republican congressional campaign committee says congress would keep the government open. with less than 100 days from the midterm elections, congress is scrambling to secure $5 billion for border security in the next funding bill. they need to lock in the votes before the money runs out september 30th. a public school in san francisco could be shelter to 20 families who don't have a permanent home. the board of supervisors will take a final vote tomorrow to approve the program at buena vista man school in the mission. the board approved about $700,000 in funding for one year. the principal and vice principal

san francisco looking great in the green at 9 minutes. check in with meteorologist mike nicco. >> thank you very much. we'll start with the fire conditions and they're getting better all the time, around lake berryessa, we have temperatures at 26, winds less than mainly ten miles per hour and humidity 68%. the temperatures still going to be pretty warm today and tomorrow upper 90s and then we taper down to 88 by sunday. that's good news. that will give the firefighters a little bit of a boost in their spirit knowing they have better weather coming. 74 up around redding with 61% humidity. notice calm conditions, temperatures here look at 106 down to about 97 sunday. still very hot. as far as our poor air quality it's around fresno, bakersfield, sacramento, and all through the north bay only going to get worse this afternoon. a group of roller skaters in san francisco fell short of beaking a guinness world record. abc 7 news at hunters shoreline park in san francisco where
