those forced out of their homes. the mendocino complex includes the ranch and river fires. the ranch fire has burned just over 40,000 acres. it is 10% contained. the river fire has burned $27,00 27,000 acres. lake county officials say they are creating a big box around s es btoesfie t to go in and protect property. and that is proving to be a big challenge. by the time the complex fire started burning on friday there were already several other fhrou the state. >> then the mepd seeno complex breaks, resources are already committed. we are now facing limited resources to suppress this incident. >> they do have some help from the nevada army national guard. we learn they have joined the fight with helicopters in the

air and crews on the ground. so far lake port has lost ten structures, nowhere near the 1,900 structures or so lost three years ago. and this morning lake county supervisors declared an emergency. >> all right, reggie, thank you. the carr fire in and around redding is still burning out of control threatening more than 2,500 structures. take a look at the map of this burn area. as of this morning 110,000 acres. that's nearly the size of san jose. scott mcclap in redding with more on how residents are coping. >> this fire is scary to us. this is something we haven't seen before in the city zp.

>> reporter: the monstrous carr fire in shasta county, more than one of a dozen fires burning across the state right now. the temperatures are so hot it's creating it's own weather system and can be seen from space. >> we got a few pictures from friends but it was a fire storm when we left. >> reporter: while crews are gaining ground they say they're dealing with the perfect recipe for the flames to spread erratically. those gale force winds are whipping up what crews describe as fire tornados that are destroying everything in their path. >> i saw to the right of me that vortex and that fire moving and i told my daughter, i said get home now, let's leave, that one scares me. >> some of our guys lost their homes as well. probably half of our department

was displaced. >> reporter: also dealing with reports of looting in those abandoned areas. almost 3,000 firefighters are fighting to control the blaze. now take a look at this new tool that cal fire published. people who can't return home can now find out if their house survived the fire. if you're worried about a specific home you can even type in a specific address. but cal fire adds they're still assessing properties and the data is subject to change. new this morning facebook is confirming it's once again -- right before we get to that story, i want to take a look at the weather especially pertaining to that fire fight. >> we do have some good news. all the watches and warnings they expired yesterday. but we do have periods of time where it's going to be harder to fight those fires. mid-90s today all the way

through friday, but look at the mid-80s with higher humidity starting monday and tuesday. winds are going to be picking up a bit this afternoon. then they lay down during the overnight hours, which what we need. more than 100 at least through friday, then some 80s on monday, and here we're looking at winds that are possibly going to be gusting as we head towards 10:00 p.m. this evening. so it looks like it could ramp up a little bit, kristen. now we'll get to the this book story. once again it is confirming it's being used for a political fluence campaign ahead of november's mid-term elections. it just announced it has purged dozens of fake accounts and pages. so far facebook cannot say whether russia is behind this political influence campaign. facebook says the investigation is in the very early stages and adds it still doesn't have all the facts. in the statement the company

said, quote, we face determined well funded adversaries who will never give up and are constantly changing tactics. it's an arms race and we need to constantly approve to. new this morning, cars crushed in a parking garage collapse. officials say the collapse this morning damaged at least 21 cars, but it appears no one was hurt. firefighters are searching through the rubble a second time just to be sure. the cause of it collapse is undetermined. now to the east bay where an arson investigation is under way this morning. someone set fire to a minivan overnight and the fire came dangerously close to a home. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live at contra costa headquarters in concord with the latest. >> reporter: we just got briefed by investigators, and we're told they do have their eye on a possible suspect. first, though, let's get to the fire. this car, this minivan was on

fire in the driveway at this home. firefighters got the call about 2:30 this morning. there was a man inside the home and three kids who were asleep. you can see the fire did do some damage to the stucco on that home and the garage. so it did threaten the home and those people inside. and firefighters say because that car was so close to the home it will make the charges of who did this even more serious. >> it is considered a felony offense, one to start the car on fire but to impact the home that was inhabit at that point it is a felony offense. >> reporter: the homeowner identified saying that person may have had something to do with it. they have not said anything about a possible motive. no arrests at this time have been made. investigate say they're piecing

it together. they have no reason to believe that that car just suddenly caught on fire. reporting live in concord, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. happening today the coopertino city council set to vote on whether to put a head tax on the negative ballot. that would tax businesses based on the number of employees instead of square footage. apple, coopertino's largest employer could potentially have to pay $425 per employee. the company has an estimated 24,000 employees. the city says the money will be transportation solutions. happening today the long awaited trial begins for president trump's former campaign chairman paul manafort. now this is video of what's believed to be manafort arriving at the courthouse in alexandria,

virginia, this morning to face charges of tax evasion and bank fraud. >> reporter: the first criminal trial stemming from the special counsel's investigation is kicking off. >> and paul manafort has done an amazing job. >> reporter: the man at the center former trump campaign chairman paul manafort. >> are there any ties between manafort wro you and your campaign, and putin and the regime? >> reporter: but this trial won't focus on russia or collusion for now. instead it will drill in on manafort's alleged financial fraud. manafort faces 18 counts of financial crimes including allegations he laundered at least $60 million from cnsulting work on behalf hof pro-russian ukrainian politicians and then fumed that money through offshore accounts and in turn lived a lavish

happening today, it's anthony kennedy's last day as a supreme court justice. the 82-year-old is retiring after 30 years on the high court. president trump has nominated brett kavanaugh to replace him. democratic lawmakers have been looking into kavanaugh's rulings. senator joe mansion was the first to sit down with kavanaugh. he says he's not ready to make a final decision on how he will

and unfortunately nothing has improved in the yosemite valley or the park for that matter. this is the live picture. you can see just how gray it is once again. so far we've been immune to that unhealthy air. you can see we're doing good to moderate right now. you start to see some red and magenta and that is unhealthy air for all of us, some of it getting potentially dangerous for those most sensitive around the ferguson fire also around the mendocino fire and carr.car. and temperatures pretty close to average today. you'll need the sunglasses everywhere but the coast.

more patchy drizzle tonight. here's a look what's going on from sutro tower. the smoke while potentially dangerous makes for colorful sunrises during the morning. 50s along the coast in san francisco, 60s around the bay and some 70s inland. 84 at san jose, 73 eventually with some sunshine in santa cruz this afternoon. easily the warm spot along the coast. upper 50s to low 60s along the peninsula coast. if you're heading out to san francisco near 60 at the coast, mid-60s downtown with more sunshine. 60 along the north bay coast, but you can see the temperatures in our valleys low to mid-80s and mid-90s to low 100s up in mendocino and lake counties. 70 in oakland, about
