weekend for us. for other people it's going to be a weekend of trepidation, maybe very anxious as 11:00 today through 11:00 saturday evening a high fire danger, red flag warning for mendocino county for the carr fire and just about the entire sierra and so we need to be careful and very cognizant of what's going on around us at that time. you may have to leave quickly. all right. back at home, yeah, starts off with more sunshine today. we're still in the mid to upper 50s at 7:00. my accuweather 12-hour planner showing temperatures a little warmer around the bay from mid 70s to even warmer inland in the low 90s. let's find out about that friday commute. hey, alexis. >> looking great right now. in fact check out the bay bridge toll plaza no metering lights. that typically happens around 5:30, maybe a few minutes later on a friday. middle of the summer, a lot and aren't coe a heading into work today. pretty smooth drive. drive times looking great for the commute, westbound 80,

highway 4 to the maze, 19 minutes, 9 minutes across the bridge through the toll plaza, and san francisco to sfo, that's wide open in the green at nine minutes. thanks. new evacuations are being ordered near the mendocino complex fires. >> this is a closer look at the ranch fire. new evacuation orders are issued for parts of lake county near the east side of the national forest on the map shown in orange. evacuation warnings have been issued for parts of western county near leesville along with lucerne and clear lake oaks area in lake county. we also do have video of a terrifying moment for a ukiah mother of three. >> you find yourself trapped on highway 20 on sunday when the >> i can't see anything. you can barely hear her say she

couldn't see anything because the smoke was so thick she didn't know how to get around this. fortunately, a caltrans tree crew supervisor was there and came to the rescue so he knocked on her window and guided newman out of harm's way and ended up saving the entire family. >> thank goodness. here's a look at the latest numbers on the mendocino complex fires. the ranch fire burned nearly 84,000 acres, it's 33% contained. to the south the river fire has grown to 41,000 acres, containment has increased to 50%. the deadly ferguson fire burning inside yosemite national park. >> new video from the scene. this is a car driving toward yosemite. you can see an orange glow in the sky outside this window. heavy smoke is forcing yosemite valley and other parts of the park to close until at least sunday. four of the five entrance to the park are closed because of this wildfire. since the ferguson fire began

july 13th it's burned more than 69,000 acres and 41% contained. two firefighters have died battling those flames. >> firefighters from down under are responding to calls for help in the u.s. nearly 200 fire personnel from australia and new zealand left sydney and they will arrive in idaho and spend six weeks fighting fires on the west coast. crews from australia and new zealand are well prepared to fight fires in california. their fire organizations are similar to the u.s. national fire organization in training requirements and structures. we're always updating abc7news.com and our abc 7 news app with the very latest information on all of the fires burning here in northern california. if you're using the app make sure to enable push alerts. developing the new out of concord, police looking for a murder suspect considered armed and dangerous. investigators say this is terrance dixon accused of killing someone he knew, a man named michael downey. police found downey's body at

his concord home on pine creek way last friday. they are still looking for the victim's car which was stolen. the license plate at the bottom of your screen. so if you see dixon or you see this car, call law enforcement immediately. do not approach him. turning to the long lines, let's face it, the dmv pretty much gives all of us a headache. >> a little good news, much needed relief coming tomorrow as some of the offices start saturday service. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live in san jose. matt? >> good morning, jessica and reggie. we're about two hours away from the office here in san jose from opening up and we already have our first person in line, anthony. he just told me he took a vacation day to come here early to wait in line to be the first one here at the dmv. you don't have to take a day off. that's because they're going to be opening up on saturdays. the saturday hours are expanding

to more dmv field offices. 60 offices across california open from 8:00 to 5:00 p.m., 14 in the bay area, including daly city and hayward. it's gotten so bad some people say they've waited in lines nine hours or longer. the dmv says that's because of the implementation of real i.d. people can't get those on-line or through the mail. they have to show up. the dmv opened up the san jose driver's license processing center and the oakland office an hour earlier during the week to help cut down those long lines. the dmv says they're working on hiring more employees to help but until then, it's best to try to make an appointment al those those could be months out or show up a couple hours before the dmv opens so you can be first in line like anthony. a list of the dmvs opening up on saturday on abc7news.com. reporting live here in san jose, matt keller,ne president tru

press secretary sean spicer revealing some of the most trying moments in his time in the white house and spoke to a sold out crowd last night at the commonwealth club in san francisco. spicer said that there were a number of things that he wished he could have done differently including his infamous first press briefing which focused on inauguration attendance numbers. after that breaching he got a surprising call from the president. >> he said, what was that? i'm like, what do you mean in like i went in tough. he's like, that was horrible. >> spicer is on a tour speaking about his new book "the briefing." on his resignation spicer said he knew there was no coming back from some of his blunders and says melania trump is the president's closest adviser and he believes the mueller ivestigation should continue until its conclusion. another bay area city tackling concerns over flavored tobacco products. >> strangers risk their own lives to save another after a fiery crash. the incredible action caught on camera.

>> "abc 7 mornings.." >> all news. >> a rescue caught on camera after a crash in southern california. look at this, chp officers and some good samaritans saving a man from a burning car wednesday morning. the driver was unconscious but strangers on the freeway stopped to help chp officers and they arrived there o the scene. together they were able to pull the driver from the car. chp says that man and at least one other person were taken to the hospital with injuries. new developments now on the carr fire. firefighters and sheriff deputies from the menlo park fire protection district will fine drones over the redding area to assess the damage >> they've done this before in the tubs fire last year. they flew over the fountain grove area including the devastated coffey park neighborhood. that's what you're looking at here.

bandit" too. let's jump back into the 2000s, shall we? >> let's. >> completely lost our young audience this morning. >> i know. google it, right. isn't that what you say? all right. a look at what's going on at the golden gate. the low clouds and the possibility of mist along the coast but that's where it stops. in fact, look at our east bay valleys and there is no sign of the metering lights clouds there. more sunshine, warmth and more haze today. clouds to sun will happen again tomorrow, but we have a see-saw weekend where the temperatures will be cooler sunday before an inland heat wave develops next week. start in san francisco, waking up mainly cloudy, 54. the sunshine and temperatures hitting the low 60s at the coast and mid to upper 60s on the bayside. wouldn't be surprised if a few neighborhoods hit 70 the next few days. mostly cloudy 54, sunshine, breezy and temperatures in the low to upper 70s. most of us in the low to mid 70s. peninsula, partly cloudy this morning, comfortable 55 degrees. we'll be at 71 in millbrae. 82 redwood city. low 60s at the coast.

as we head down into the south bay we're starting off clear and 59 and we'll have sunshine and temperatures mainly in the 80s until los gatos and southward towards gilroy. low to mid 90s. north bay a little fog around napa, visibility a mile, mid to upper 80s this afternoon and haze from the mendocino complex fires. inland we'll have haze today and look at the temperatures here. all of us in the 90s if not the upper 90s around brentwood and discovery bay. tomorrow more of the same, few degrees cooler sunday but look at the 100s come back by wednesday inland. mid 60s around the bay but comfortable mid 60s at the coast. >> good morning. we don't have any major issues. we are looking good right now. we do have one crash blocking the left lane, westbound 92 just before 101 in the foster city area. that is starting to cause a backup. it didn't sound very serious initially but the fire department is on the scene and both vehicles involved are on the left shoulder. i am keeping an eye on that but that is pretty much it at the moment. check out the bay bridge toll plaza. still no metering lights.

now look at this, isn't that a gorgeous sunrise. you're seeing the smoke more this morning than yesterday morning and that's going to be the case today. our air quality is going to be good, but we're going to be a little hazier in the north bay and east bay than we were yesterday. we're going to be a little warmer. starting off pretty much the same this morning in my accuweather 12-hour planner, but ending up at the 60s at the coast, 75 around the bay and 92 inland. always download our app. it's free. >> good morning, mike. we have one new issue to talk about in the east bay, four-car collision inside caldecott tunnel. sounds like in bore number 3 on westbound 24. the inbound side of traffic. that is starting to back up into the arenda area. so that's about all the information i have at this point. not sure how serious that collision is or if there are injuries. seeing some red. better news here in the foster city area, westbound 92 before the 101 merge. a crash on the shoulder. fire crews were blocking the left lane but have cleared the scene and all lanes back open.

the slight backup seeing approaching the 101 should clear out shortly. next traffic update at 6:40. >> thanks. later this morning a funeral is going to be held in oakland for nia wilson. >> she's the young woman fatally stabbed at the macarthur bart station last month. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is joining us from the newsroom with a look ahead. >> hi, jessica. the murder of nia wilson captured national attention. u.s. congresswoman barbara lee is scheduled to speak at the funeral this morning. several celebrities spoke out on social media about the death of 18-year-old nia wilson. a gofundme account has brought in $91,000 for her family. she was stabbed to death on the macarthur bart platform. her sister was also stabbed, but survived. police call the attack random and unprovoked. her family now plans to sue bart saying her death could have been prevented. the man accused of killing her had been stopped for fare evasion a few days earlier and her family says he should not have been allowed back into the

complex fires threaten more neighborhoods in lake county. >> the ranch fire has grown to nearly 84,000 acres and only 33% contained. mandatory evacuations are issued for part of lake county near the east side of the mendocino national forest. and to the south, the river fire has grown to 41,000 acres, containment there at 50%. that has gone up fortunately. cal fire says the flames are being fueled by hot temperatures and difficult to access terrain. fire crews are focused on structure protection with 8200 threatened. officials are trying to stop the ranch fire's northern push towards lake pillsbury, community full of summer rentals. firefighters in shasta county say they're making progress getting people back home. this morning only five neighborhoods in redding and some scattered areas remain evacuated. the carr fire has burned nearly 127,000 acres since it began

nine days ago. it is now 37% contained. more than 1500 structures have burned, about 1,000 of those are homes. six people have died. more members of the california air national guard are being deployed in the fire zones. this is the 146th air wing leaving the national guard station in oxnard on their way to the disaster areas late yesterday. firefighters from australia and new zealand on their way to help fight fires throughout the west. for the latest information on the fires go to abc7news.com or use the abc 7 news app. details on evacuations and maps of the fire zones, enable push alerts to get the latest breaking fire news when it happens. police in san jose need your help to identify a man found dead at an apartment complex. take a look at this sketch. this man was found in a parking lot on indian wells court at burnle road on june 19th. the county coroner says he is of

latino descent in early to mid 20s wearing a royal blue colored jacket, blue socks and shoes and black shorts. police say they have found the driver of a big rig that hit and killed a cyclist in lafayette. it happened in the area of reliez valley road and withers avenue. see sky 7 was above the scene. the bicyclist died at the hospital. we're told the driver was not detained. investigators are still looking for witnesses to the crash. new at 6:00 a.m., the mother of the missing college student who spent part of her childhood in oakland is not giving up hope. mollie tibbett's mom believes her daughter was abducted and is now being held captive. the 20-year-old university of iowa student vanished m two w ago. she was last spotted going for a jog in brooklyn, iowa. this morning, the missing woman's boyfriend dalton jack talked to "gma" and he has a message for anyone who might

know something about her mysterious disappearance. >> just try to put yourself in our shoes. what if somebody had taken somebody that you loved so much and just have the courage to come forward and give the information to the police. >> police have said mollie's boyfriend is not considered a suspect. you can watch the entire interview coming up at 7:00 a.m. on "gma." you are never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. now that the sun is up we're seeing the first signs of that haze and smoke moving into our east bay valleys as we look from our east bay hills camera. you can see that film in the air. the good news for the north bay, because it's venting out of your neighborhoods and heading to the south, your air quality has improved in lake and mendocino counties while the rest of us are still okay, even though you can see the canopy of crud in the air. now in the sierra, absolutely unhealthy for all of us and for mount shasta northward unhealthy.

back at home a good to moderate to be mo down in the south bay low to mid 50s in most neighborhoods, warmer in san jose 63 and up in the hills, los gatos 70. pretty much 50s everywhere until you get to the north bay, novato in the upper 40s. look at this picture. no mist, no drizzle, except for right near the peninsula coast this morning. so enjoy better driving conditions. if you're going to be out on the water we have the small craft advisory in the afternoon hours and mass transit if you're going from like san francisco where it's going to be in the mid 60s to our east bay valleys, mid 90s. a 30 degree summer spread today. we have a heat wave building in the accuweather seven-day forecast. first want to turn it over to alexis and find out how is the commute this morning. >> slow spot in the east bay, back to caldecott tunnel a four-car crash on westbound 24. sounds like that is blocking the left lane of bore number three and that has things backed up into arenda. unfortunately that is definitely causing a bit of a delay.

the air quality warning it's open ended now. the officials saying until they can get the fire under control the air quality is going to be unhealthy for everybody you see in the gray here until that time has developed and who knows when that will be. hopefully in the next several days. we just don't know. all right. here's a look at the other areas that will have high fire danger in the red. see chico and sacramento, mid 90s, in palm springs and high fire danger in the sierra, especially tahoe through saturday, hazy sunday and gets warm monday, tuesday, wednesday. you've probably seen this by now but if you haven't stop and look. a rare firenado in redding. now we know that the wind speeds from one of these reached the level of an ef-3 tornado. the national weather service and cal fire are assessing the storm damage and say early indications put the maximum wind speeds more than 143 miles per hour. not only are you battling the fire, you're battling wind and battling the combination of

some other things to look at also as you can see from the exploratorium, yeah, there's a few clouds around oakland and up towards emeryville and along the coast in san francisco but the rest of us a lot of sunshine this morning. we're starting off drier, ending up warmer today and tomorrow and then we have a robust warming trend. the clouds coming across san francisco and golden gate trying to fill in the east bay shoreline. they will get as far south as hayward and quickly return to the coast where we'll see sunshine like we did yesterday, even more so and that's going to help your temperatures jump up a little bit also. 76 in santa cruz, the warmest spot along the coast today. look at the low to mid 90s, los gatos, morgan hill and gilroy. low to mid 80s for the south bay. 82 redwood city, palo alto 80, everybody in the 70s on a breezy peninsula this afternoon. breezy along the coast with the extra sunshine. check out the upper 60s for downtown, south san francisco and sausalito. mid to upper 80s most of the north bay, little breezy once again where it's calmer it's going to be warmer, cloverdale,
