app. mostly sunny conditions and just a few patches of fog near the coast. hazy skies in parts of the north baidu to fires this afternoon and the temperatures will be mild to very warm again. inland in the mid-90s. around the bay low 80s and at the coast, breezy and temperatures still in the low 60s today. sun sets at 8:15. we'll see increasing clouds and a cooler day on tap tomorrow and i'll tell you when you can expect triple digit heat coming up. chris? >> thanks. overnight, a deadly helicopter crashed. 18 people killed when it went down shortly after tackoff. this is video after the crash. the russian airliner says it appears the blades collided with another helicopter that took off from the pad earlier. all 18 people onboard died. here at home, we're expecting an update following a shooting in palo alto. it happened near the safeway in

midtown last night. thankfully no one was hurt, but the shooter was able to escape. officers spotted the car and cha chased it to highway 101. it is not clear what led up to the shooting. official his to close it overnight following stabbing. it happened where nia wilson was stabbed to death last month. cornell bernard has the latest. the macarthur bart station of the closed friday night as police investigated a fight and double stabbing. >> it was very scary e especially after something that happened recently. >> zanita saw one man who had been slashed. >> the one who had a slash on his face, like, an inch, he was just holding his face while he was bleeding. >> reporter: bart officials say a fight broke out between two men on a richmond-bound train

and one witness said it was violent. >> two people just punching each other. it was just super, super aggressive and enough to bleed and blood staining the chairs. >> one man suffered a knife wound to his arm and another to his face and it happened an hour after a vigil for nia wilson. she was fatally stabbed in the station last month. >> it was nia that died on that platform. a small group gathered to honor the 18-year-old when died in the unprovoked attack. her sister was also stabbed, but survived. 27-year-old suspect john cowell is charged with her murder. so far police have no motive, but some believe it was racially motive. >> i don't think anything like this ever ends. >> reporter: bart officials say wounds to both men are considered non-life threatening and no arrests have been made. in oakland, cornell barnard, nbc

custody. the incident happened in a safeway parking lot in kernville. this is vid why of the sonoma county bomb squad blowing up a backpack that they believe belonged to the suspect. witnesses say they saw a man ignite a device and thrown under a patrol car. one safeway employee was hurt when the device exploded. >> we had a report of one woman fell to the ground after the explosion and she declined medical attention. they spotted the suspect and chased him down and the suspect's name has not been released. 5:06 is our time. a couch frame hit the vehicle they were in. abc 7 news was at the crossing of church hill avenue and alma street. the collision happened around 6:00 last night. it remains under investigation. none of the nearly 300 passengers on the train were hurt. abinvestigation into this crash in fremont. we are told the truck overturned

near interstate 680 and then landed on a car. as nasty as the crash looks, the two drivers survived and the injuries are not considered life-threatening. police were still on the scene last night hours after it happened. there is a new center to help guide the homeless off the streets in san francisco. the mayor joined at the circle navigation center. it used to be a caltrans parking lot. the new center is only the beginning. >> many of you know my top priority as mayor is to make sure that we're moving our homeless population out of tents, off the streets and into permanent housing because the 7500 people, each have lives and stories that are amazing. >> the center should be able to help 125 people at a time. it wic and eventually

permanent housing. a head's up for bart passengers. major repairs are impacting service between the east bay and san francisco. trains will not be running between the west oakland and 19th street stations and ac trance sit running free shuttle busses. you can now visit more than a dozen bay area dmv offices on saturdays. these extended hours start today. it's all an effort to reduce the long line, the wait times partly due to the real i.d. requirements. by 2020 you'll need a new california i.d. or driver's license to get through airport security. the application has to be done in person and making an appointment is highly recommended. you can get a complete list of offices open on saturdays. time is 5:08 and frances is tracking accuweather forecast. >> we have clear skies over the bayiary and we're looking down toward san francisco where it's currently 56 degrees and we have i'll tell acceaer seven-day

meteorologist frances dinglasan coming up, but first, we're getting a first look at this nearly completed rooftop park in san francisco. this is video from drone view 7 showing the transit center. a big block party will mark the opening in exactly one week. abc 7 news anchor dan ashley has a sneak peek. >> reporter: for a lucky group of neighbors and commuters walking through the transit center's rooftop park was like taking a stroll in california, passing trees and plants from every corner of the state and beyond. >> these are the mexican farm plant. >> the park sits on roughly five acres, 75 feet above the sidewalks below. designers staggered the trees and plants to create shifting environments along the way from cactus gardens to lush, green forests. >> what we wanted to do was really highlight the climate and the kind of conditions we have here in san francisco. >> the landscape stretches not just in front of you, but above and below, as well.

abc 7.com. a man got caught in a vacation rental scam. he found the perfect place in the heart of paris and didn't find out what was going on until after he paid. michael finney helped him get somewe. >> it's a great place. i still lookal it. >> orlando san vicente found it on travelocity.com. >> reporter: a modern penthouse in the heart of paris. >> right by the louvre. >> the listing showed luxurious rooms with sweeping views, big enough for his whole family. >> so i reserved it online through travelocity. >> reporter: his excitement was building until he heard from the listing company. >> i saw that they wanted a transfer in cash. >> the listing agent required him to wire the $3400 payment to a bank in greece. >> i'm aware of wire fraud and that's when i kind of got a little bit concerned. >> he called travelocity. was this listing legit?

>> yes, that's the procedure, you can send the money. >> orlando wired the money. >> they would keep on stalling and stalling. >> and then his e-mails started bouncing back. the company disappeared and so did r did rolando's $3400. >> travelocity refunded the $500, but not the rest of the money. rest assured we're working on it. he said travelocity promised to contact the listing agent. >> we were never able to confirm that you paid. >> he had trusted travelocity's advice to send the money and it was a scam. >> if it's on your website then you guys are responsible for it. >> what they said was it's out of our hands. we don't have your money. he contacted 7 on your side and we contacted travelocity. the site does scrutinize listed. travelocity said it is possible

alaska and that will fill in overnight into tomorrow dropping temperatures to today. i want to show you the visible satellite image from yesterday because you can see the smoke coming from all these big fires through redding and through the mendocino complex. look at how the winds are coming from the northwest and all of the smoke is drifting out west and even smoke from the ferguson fire and affecting parts of central california. so highs today will range from the 60s at the coast to 90s once again. it will be breezy this afternoon. look for a high of 68 in san francisco. okland, 75 and san jose, 74 and we'll see hazy skies through parts of the north bay and possibly even as far south as santa rosa and napa and some hazy, hazy area, far east as well and some warmer temperatures there like antioch, 93 degrees and there is an adobo festival. plenty of sunshine all day long

lake oaks and the cowell mountain recreation area are included. earlier some evacuation orders were lifted for the lake port area. students in lake port were supposed to go to school next week, but administrators have delayed the start for two weeks. both fires have expanded and have burned a combined 157,000 acres. firefighters hope to have them contained in about a week and a half. today governor brown will be in shasta county touring the area charred by the carr fire. the fire has destroyed nearly a dozen homes. residents in the river ridge neighborhood in redding were allowed back in last night. many of the homes there are now gone. the fight has been incredibly tough for redding firefighters. some of their homes were destroyed and the department lost one of their own. abc 7 news report amanda dell castillo his moro what firefighters are doing to help.

>> reporter: firefighters continue battling what is now called the sixth most destructive fire in california history. the carr fire has burned more than 1500 structures including the homes of redding firefighters. among the six people killed, redding fire inspector jeremy stoke. >> my understanding is he was simply assisting an evacuation. >> reporter: a hometown hero like so many others. the carr fire isn't cutting them a break either. many of them haven't been able to take more than a moment to breathe after losing a brother or losing their home. >> they're still active out on the lines trying to defend those neighborhoods and trying to save other, their friends, families and neighbors. >> reporter: their pain is felt across the country including here in the bay area. gabriel merrick worked alongside stoke before joining alameda county fire. >> i was able to work with him and you can rely on that guy on just about anything you need. >> merrick and the alameda county firefighters association

i'm laerl beil. >> i'm frances dinglasan and we have a clear start to the weekend. notice the clouds are mainly off it is coa and in inland areas and lots of clear skies right now over the bay area. also there is a red flag warning still in effect until 11:00 tonight and this is through parts of northern california again for redding and also the areas of the mendocino complex fires. gusts, ridge gusts can be anywhere from 25 to 35 miles per hour, and then higher for the sierra ridge gusts that can reach to 65 miles per hour and humidity will be low and hot and dry conditions will continue throughout the week even after the red flag warning expires, but here are some of the clear skies over the bay area and you can see it from the live view in san francisco. look at that. you can almost see the sunrise in a preview. oakland, 58 and san jose, 68 degrees and half moon bay only in the 40s and 48 right you in.
