deck. >> abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo has been in this traffic mess all morning long. good morning, amanda. >> good morning. a lot of people frustrated, wanting to make it across the bay bridge but that is not going to happen. i'm going to move out of the way so you can see the stopped traffic. we did connect with chp in the last 15 minutes and while they couldn't offer me a suspect description they tell me there were cameras in the area of that fatal shooting that happened around 2:23 this morning and they are hopeful they will be able to pull footage from those cameras to really give us a description hopefully some time soon. let's get you caught up if you're just joining us, around 2:23, police did receive a call of a driver who heard about five gun shots after hearing those gun shots an suv actually swerved into the car, in the suv, there were three people, the driver of the suv was shot and killed, a second passenger

also suffered some gunshot wounds and a third injured in the crash. the person that they crashed into is doing all right this morning but so many people here making their commute into the east bay. we connected with a dozen people walking off the bay bridge saying they missed their flights. one man woke up two hours for a 6:00 a.m. flight, his first day of work, he was expected to land somewhere, now he's walking off trying to get to san francisco international airport, hopefully he still has a job by the time that he lands, but a lot of people out here really just trying to get going. it's been like this more than three hours now. you can tell just how bad it is because i'm actually in a lane of traffic. no one is moving. it was actually one lane was open about two hours ago. that only lasted about 30 minutes. we were able to move about a mile and a half.

instantly it was shut down again, i'm told because of new evidence that was found the investigation into that deadly shooting and subsequent crash continues. we're trying to make our way to treasure island to connect with chp with more information. for now making calls from the road. reporting live on the bay bridge, amanda del castillo abc 7 news. and as amanda said some folks trying to walk off the bridge. that is not recommended by chp. i know it's frustrating but you are certainly advised to stay in your vehicle. want to take you back live to sky 7. they're giving us a glimpse of the investigation here. the lower deck of the bay bridge fully blocked due to the investigation that was new information from amanda. she said they briefly were letting drivers through and opened up one lane, a couple hours ago, then found new evidence and decided to shut down all lanes once again. really a ton of frustration but this y the other

negotiation skills and cheerful spirit. her family confirmed to us the flight was a business trip. the pilot declared emergency right before the plane crashed into the mall parking lot. the plane was registered to a san francisco real estate company. investigators from the faa and ntsb this morning are trying to determine what caused the crash. cal fire still struggling to fight the mendocino complex fires this morning as flames burn out of control. the agency now says the ranch and river fires nearly 267,000 acres. burn areas cover mendocino, lake and colusa counties and the fires destroyed 68 homes and 9300 structures are still threatened. the ranch fire i firefighters don't expect to have full containment until next

wednesday. a pg&e lineman has been killed working near the car fire in shasta county. 21-year-old jay ayeta was working on power restoration when killed in a vehicle accident. pg&e says he worked for the company two years. he was a native of uganda who moved to santa rosa. his cousin told us how proud she was of him. >> i was proud. and when he graduated and he got a job and a house, it seemed like he was really doing good. safety measures for employees working near fire zones. a gofundme page has been established by friends to help his family with expenses and more than $25,000 has been raised. >> mendocino san jose international airport will become the first airport on the west coast to use facial recognition technology on all international flights.

abc 7 traffic with alexis smith. >> don't have good news for drivers trying to take the bay bridge eastbound from san francisco but want to head back to sky 7. looks like we're making progress here. all lanes blocked coming up on four hours now due to the shooting investigation. followed by a crash. one person dead, another injured today. we have vehicles across all lanes for this investigation. i'm seeing everything pushed to the right side now. giving me hope that i think we may get a lane or two open in the next few minutes. have not confirmed that with chp. what it looks like they are working on. upper deck of the bay bridge heavy traffic from the toll plaza to treasure island due to a disabled bus blocking one lane. tough morning on the roads. check in with meteorologist mike

nicco. >> all right, alexis. thank you very much. you are never more than seven minutes away. let's talk temperatures 49 daly city, half moon bay, menlo park 50, pacifica 51 and 52 to 54 f about the rest of the peninsula. you can see from sutro tower it's a pretty clear morning away from the coast. watch the warmth if you're exercise this afternoon. it's going to be warmer than yesterday. sunny spots at our beaches around santa cruz where we could reach 80, small craft advisory going to be out playing on the bay. north of the bay bridge begins at noon, south of the bay bridge it begins at 3:00 and goes through 9:00 with winds up to 30 miles per hour. a look at the conditions, no red flag warning, no high fire danger right now. winds in the 10 to 15 degree range over the mendocino county complex or the mendocino complex fires there. the smoke will blow southeast away from us. because the winds have called down temperatures in the mid 90s to nearly 100 the rest of the week.

francisco chronicle." the paper spoke with leeroy westerly, a professor specializing in wildfire and climatology and says it's ongoing warming and accelerated climate change driving the fires. >> back to the breaking news we've been following throughout the morning a closure eastbound on the bay bridge. you have to feel for these drivers at this point. it's such a nightmare. >> they've been sitting there some of them for several hours, alexis smith has been following it and you noticed something they may be doing on the bay bridge right now. >> well, hopefully they're getting ready to open up lanes but not for sure yet. we have a better look at things due to sky 7 being in the area for us. i wanted them to show you this. a bunch of motorcyclists who worked their way to the front of the closure and then the rest of these drivers just sitting behind them and, of course, there's a squad car, chp, just in front with the closure. follow sky 7 up, quite a ways up for the investigation and the vehicles involved in the investigation were spread across

all five lanes a short time ago. now i'm noticing they are pushed off to the right-hand side. that's giving me a little hope they're getting close to wrapping this up or containing it and they will hopefully be able to open up a couple more lanes. look closely, it's tough, the lower deck, you can see everybody is pushed off to the right-hand side. not sure. chp telling us they still don't have an estimate for when these lanes will get back open. it is brutal. i can't stress this enough. i want to flip over to my traffic maps and show you what this backup is like. you're jammed into the sonoma area of san francisco due to the sig alert and then the westbound side really heavy too in the same area, westbound 80 past treasure island a disabled vehicle still in the middle lane, long delays into the maze and beyond at this point. either direction of bay bridge is brutal. check in with meteorologist mike nicco with a look at the forecast. >> hey, alexis. you are never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. think about jumping on a ferry instead of bay bridge pretty quiet on the water this morning. the fact that it's going to be a

little sunny when you get over the water. start at one of the coasts or at one of the bay shorelines it's a little cloudy there from the exploratorium camera. sunny around the bay and inland, warming trend, cool lows, and clear around the bay and coast tonight and then the extended we're looking at inland heat wave because we have high pressure to our west. low pressure to our west. high pressure to our east. then you can see it pumping up that heat from the desert southwest and our air is dry right now also. we start off with san francisco low cloud cover 52, work into the mid to upper 60s during the afternoon hours. marina and also you saw ingleside about 70 degrees. along the east bay shore, 55, 70 noon, mid to upper 70s during the afternoon hours. as we head over to the peninsula, it's mainly clear this morning, 56, see a lot of sunshine this afternoon, mid 70s to mid 80s along the coast in the mid 60s, down in the south bay just about total sunshine from 80 in milpitas, 99 gilroy,

we are looking live at sky 7. you can see the lower deck of the bay bridge near the bottom of the screen, they're showing us this has spilled over on to surface streets. folks are trying to get off of this backup which don't blame them. some still trying to get on to the bay bridge. they are not realizing what is going on. this is having a ripple effect we're into prime rush hour here. this is total nightmare on the roads. again if you are just joining us a deadly shooting investigation right around treasure island just west of treasure island on eastbound 80 and we're going to follow sky 7 here you can see it's grid lokds. we've seen folks out of their vehicles all mornin. our reporter amanda del castillo she was just told she needed to move the location of our news van here. so we'll get the latest as soon as possible. a lot of these folks stuck about four hours now. the shooting occurred around 2:30 just before that, and that investigation continues. this is just brutal. i also want to mention this is really strange, i've had a few people point out google maps and

tracking from san rafael where police are investigating an officer-involved shooting. it left a man with some life-threatening injuries and authorities say a san rafael officer shot and critically hurt the man. they say was threatening police with two knives. shooting happened just after 9:00 last night. it happened on belvedere streets. police have not released his identity. >> the ntsb working to find out what brought down a plane. >> the plane took off from buchanan airfield in concord yesterday before crashing two miles short of john wayne airport in santa ana. this morning we are learning the identities of everyone on board. amy hollyfield is live in danville with more on the story. >> reporter: hi, good morning, jessica. we know the names of those victims, three listed as working here at pacific union real estate here in danville.

the victims range in age from 29 to 62. let me get you the list of those names. the list of those victims. the three women who are listed as working at pacific union in danville, floria hakimi, lara shepherd and nasim ghanadan. also killed in the crash, navid hakimi and scott shepherd listed as the pilot. the plane crashed into a shopping center parking not santa ana in orange county. it killed everyone on board. a witness said that she heard a loud noise come from the the good news, no one was hurt on the ground, some saying that was a miracle. a car was crashed into on the ground. it was parked there and the owner inside a store. the pilot declared an emergency in the air and was given permission to land at orange county's john wayne airport

moments before the crash but ended up crashing about a mile away. the ntsb is investigating the cause of the accident. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> okay. i want to jump in with breaking news. want to go back live to sky 7, we have movement on the lower deck of the bay bridge. if you've been with us all morning, we've had a deadly shooting investigation, eastbound 80 west of treasure island since about 2:30 this morning and we have had absolute gridlock. no one getting by for hours. just saw this a few moments ago they did release traffic, does look like we have at least one or two lanes on the right-hand side blocked and also saw what looked like a vehicle with perhaps overheating issue and engine issue blocking one of the middle lanes further back. obviously, we've had vehicles sitting here idling for hours. that could be an issue this morning. the big news, jessica and reggie, looks like we have movement again, few lanes open. an update in a moment.

>> hallelujah. >> what we've been waiting for since 2:30 this morning. grateful for all those people stuck waiting there for hours. thank you so much. fingers crossed it stays open. we had it open and then shut down again. arson investigators this morning looking into what started a fire that killed 14-year-old twin girls and their mother. the 14-year-old twins trinh and tram tran and a woman who was their mother became trapped when their house on georgia street caught fire. the twins' 11-year-old sister managed to escape from a side window and flagged down a police officer who happened to be driving by. last night friends stopped by to pay their repsects to the family. >> they were really sweet to me. they would always talk to me. one had a really fun attitude and was really loving and they were good girls. >> investigators won't say why,

but they believe the fire is suspicious and calling it an active criminal investigation. the wildfires burning in mendocino, and lake counties, exploded in size over the weekend to a combined 267,000 acres burned. >> some new evacuations were ordered yesterday and others were also lifted as firefighters worked to get a handle on the river and the ranch fires. cal fire said some of the weather helped out yesterday. the fires have destroyed 68 homes, 15,000 structures are still threatened, though. crews have 58% containment of the river fire, 23% of the ranch fire. crews from australia and new zealand are expected to arrive in redding to help in the battle against the carr fire. the deployment made up of nearly 150 specialists in fire management. the carr fire has burned 160,000 acres of land and 43% contained. stay on top of breaking fire

updates with our abc 7 news app. download it and enable push alerts. this morning bart police are searching for the attackers who targeted passengers in two separate incidents last week. the most recent attack happened saturday morning. a 23-year-old san jose state student headed home for the weekend was attacked from behind at the richmond station. the victim suffered a concussion, broken teeth, and possible broken jaw. police say the suspect ran away. police also looking for this man 27-year-old solomon espinoza accused of using a box cutter to slash two passengers at the macarthur bart station in oakland friday night. both victims did survive. espinoza did not know them. three bart officers and two oakland police officers were at the station at the time. the suspect managed to escape from the station, though. macarthur bart station is the same station where 18-year-old

nia wilson was stabbed to death two weeks ago. 27-year-old john cowell still charged in her murder. now abc 7 traffic with alexis smith. >> i want to start off with the good news. we have the three left lanes open on the lower deck of the bay bridge. this is huge. if you've been with us all morning you know we had a full closure of eastbound 80 west of treasure island due to a deadly deadly shooting investigation. we have problems sky 7 zooming in on a couple issues. we have a disabled vehicle in the right lane within that backup. i saw a u-haul with the issue that looks like we had a hood up in that situation and another vehicle that looked like it was stalled out too. i believe this white truck is stalled out. unfortunately we see this quite often. if we have a lengthy closure like this, we have vehicles with mechanical issues and people who run out of gas. and then we see secondary collisions too because everyone wants to move badly they've been stuck for hours and and driving

stock exchange this morning as trading gets under way. we are down about 75 points. investors will be watching the s&p 500 this week because it could hit a new all-time high. okay. let's get back to our breaking news on the bay bridge. traffic at a standstill virtually the entire morning commute. check in with alexis. >> things are starting to look better although this is definitely still a traffic alert this morning. we have the three left lanes open, the two right lanes blocked due to the deadly shooting investigation around 2:30 this morning. we had all lanes blocked for nearly four hours so sky 7 showing us traffic is moving. it's not moving quickly but it is moving. so certainly some better news that does open up significantly once you make it past yerba buena island there. what's happening is, folks are getting past this investigation scene. looks like we still have chp and the medical examiner taking up the two right lanes. several disabled vehicles within the backup. folks sitting here so long, i'm guessing we had cars overheat and possibly ran out of gas and

francisco. we've got mid 70s, richard, oakland, san mateo and start to hit the 80s around fremont and palo alto. and san jose low to mid 80s there. you get out to the periphery, milpitas 94. 80 vallejo, 86 napa, 93 in santa rosa and around the lakeport fire temperatures in the low 90s today. these are some of our coolest temperatures moving forward. here's the key. look what happens tonight. we still have cloud cover along the coast, a little like this morning, making a late push across san francisco and san bernardino gap. temperatures from the mid 50s to 60s. pretty good sleeping weather. my accuweather seven-day forecast. two to four degrees warming tomorrow and wednesday into thursday we start pushing the mid 60s to 70s at the coast, mid 80s to 90s around the bay and triple digits inland. the heat will hang on around the bay and inland friday and then we fall back to seasonal temperatures for saturday and sunday. have a good day.

>> mike, thank you. returning now to the plane crash in southern california that killed five people as we told you earlier, several victims were from the bay area. >> and this morning investigators from the ntsb will return to the crash site to try to find out what went wrong.rkm knbc live in santa ana this morning. mark? >> yeah. the ntsb arrived late last night. we are told that we should be expecting them to return shortly to continue their investigation into what exactly happened with this crash. the aftermath and the wreckage. you can see right here behind us. amazingly despite this happening in the middle of the day, nobody on the ground was injured. now the investigation ongoing into what caused this plane to go down killing everyone on board. authorities say the pilot did make a mayday call moments before the crash. other witnesses said the engine had cut out as that plane spiraled toward the ground crashing outside this staples office supply store.
