the deadly shooting on the bay bridge yesterday morning. it left the eastbound morning commute at a standstill for hours. >> abc 7 news reporter amanda is live at the bay bridge toll plaza with an update on the investigation. amanda. >> reggie, jessica, the driver who was shot and killed yesterday has been identified as 31-year-old darryl stinett of texas. the person who pulled the trigger remains at large. at 2:23 a.m., he was behind the wheel of the suv. he and two passengers were traveling eastbound on the lower deck of the east bay bridge when someone fired bullets into the vehicle killing the texas man. the two male passengers were also shot. one man has been discharged from san francisco general hospital. the other is in fair condition. the shooting investigation shut down all lanes of the lower deck for more than four hours yesterday morning. once we got through, we connected with raul lopez, the man who got caught, i should

say, in the line of fire. and his car was hit by stinett's suv. he explains the experience. >> once you hear the fire pops, the guy in the suv hits me, and we both turn around. i'm lucky the other cars didn't hit me or hit him. >> frightening situation. the chp says there's no reason to believe the shooting was completely random. we know officers are continuing to review footage and examine evidence collected at the scene. we're told that chp is looking for a silver or gray sedan or small suv, and in the next hour, we'll hear from chp officers about their investigation. from now, reporting live at the bay bridge toll plaza. >> thank you, amanda. it's a fire that's making state history. the mendocino complex fire is now the largest california wildfire ever. >> together, the ranch and river fires have burned nearly 284,000 acres. the larger ranch fire is just 21% contained. last year's thomas fire in

southern california held the previous record as the state's fire. that burned 282,000 acres. meanwhile, fire crews still on the scene of a small grass fire that threatened some structures last night. >> this broke out just after 9:00 at leslie and roof roads in gilroy. hilly terrain made it challenging for fire crews to access the fire, and at last check, the fire had burned five acres of grass. firefighters have stopped the spread, but they are still trying to contain it. roads are closed in the area because of the fire engines that have responded. crews in southern california have a burning fire. the latest update came in at about 8:00 last night. the fire had burned 4,000 acres with zero percent containment. at least two firefighters are being treated for heat related injuries because they're also dealing with triple digit

temperatures. meanwhile, two hikers also in that area getting trapped near the fire. you can see a helicopter wooping in there and hoisting two people to safety. the fire is burning near a popular trail. within the next few days, the ntsb plans to release its preliminary investigation report about the plane from the east bay that crashed in orange county. video shows the small plane taking a nose dive on sunday. it had taken off from concord. the pilot was a ceo of a san francisco company called category 3. his wife lara was also on the plane as well as her coworkers. they worked at a real estate office in danville. hakimi's son naveed was also on board. >> just about remembering those we lost and letting the families know that our thoughts and prayers are with them, and whatever we can do to help, we will. >> the final crash report isn't expected for at least a year. >> an update now on a fire that killed three people, including

14-year-old twins. vallejo police are now treating the case as a homicide. the home went up in flames sunday morning. a younger sister escaped and flagged down a police car. the twins and presumably their mother did not make it. investigators tell abc 7 news it looks like the fire was set deliberately. friends of the two girls said there had been some problems at the home but would not elaborate. the girls went to bethel high school in vallejo. >> a modesto man will spent 15 years in prison for his role in a plot to kill people at san francisco's pier 39. a judge sentenced everitt jameson yesterday. he pleaded gate of trying to help isis carry out an attack last fall. he told an undercover agent he planned to use pipe bombs and then shoot at people running away. once he's released from prison, he'll spend the rest of his life on probation. >> a group of san francisco

tenants are suing lanlereds claiming the landlords are using the ellis act to discrimination against the lgbtq community. neighbors rallied in front of a house near the corner of guerrero and 15th streets to protest the eviction. the tenants include three drag queens and a gay man. among the other claims they have, the lawsuit alleges the landlords disposed of patio furniture and a barbecue to discourage lgbtq parties. >> we used to do four, five, six, ten barbecues a year, hang out with friends back there. we haven't been able to do that in two and a half years, which means they don't want our kind of people on their property. >> we should note the landlords say the allegations are false. you are never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. let's take a look at temperatures. we've got mid 50s just about all the way across. top to bottom, east bay shore from richmond at 53. same thing at san leandro.

union city, 56. the warm spot. keep heading to the east, 60s in the east bay valleys. livermore the except at 58. los gatos, 56. 48, novato, and santa rosa and looks like daly city, and also down towards pacifica at 50 degrees. here's a look at some of the fog you'll contend with across the golden gate bridge. air issues if you're out exercising this afternoon. lake, mendocino, and out towards tracy. beaches cool and breezy today, even cooler than yesterday, and out on the bay, small craft advisory starts at noon for the entire bay, and it goes until 9:00 this evening. that's when it will be breezy and choppy. up in the north bay, 58 with partly cloudy conditions at 8:00. 79 at noon. hanging out in the mid 80s during the afternoon hours. look a that, comfortable 71 by 8:00. and then east bay valley, 64 at 8:00, and 82 at noon, and

hanging out in the low to mid 90s this afternoon. going to be another kind of stuffy one in the east bay valleys. we'll look at the accuweather seven-day forecast, even hotter weather coming, but right now, let's see what alexis is watching. >> not too much. it's been a really quiet start to the tuesday morning commute. certainly some good news there. we are hearing reports of a brush fire, though, on northbound 680 before bear eesa road. sounds like possibly brush on the side of the freeway. fire crews are responding, not seeing delays right now. doesn't sound like it's too major but i'm keeping an eye on that. we have a giants day game today. if you're planning on taking golden gate ferry to the game, there's overflow parking available at redwood high school in the east lot, and they'll run shirtals to the terminal at 10:36, 10:46, and 10:26. that's a 12:45 start for the giants. >> in today's gma first look, we're hearic from a texas a&m senior who took her graduation photo with a giant alligator.

and you're looking live at san jose. 87, just south of mineta san jose international, and just to the east of the shark tank. it's clear right now at about 63 degrees. you're going to jump up to 86 today. 4 degrees warmer than average in napa at 87. the biggest jump is the inland east bay neighborhoods. 6 degrees warmer in livermore at 94. san francisco, you're cooler because of the clouds and mist and sea breeze that will hang around all day. >> new this morning, the wist hollywood city council has passed a largely symbolic resolution asking for the removal of president trump's star from the hollywood walk of fame. the star was destroyed two weeks ago by a man with a pick ax. council members raised concerned about president trump's treatment of women and

nationwide, including palo alto. when it comes in range of a traffic transmitting signal, an icon of a traffic light appears. it counts down the seconds until the light will turn green. the tech has a lot of potential. >> next step is to reverse that and have the vehicle send information to the traffic signal so that we can then have the vehicle be the detector versus an in-ground loop orvideo detection. >> other cities include arcadeio, las vegas, and portland. >> amazon's echo has taken over tens of millions of households but it's far from taking over the online shopping market. the information out of the 50 million users, just 100,000 of them have bought something using the voice assistant. of course, it's difficult to buy stuff when you can't actually see it or check out reviews. but amazon originally had high hopes that the echo would lead to a boom in online purchases. so far, it doesn't appear to be

the case. and that, folks, is the newest verz of spacex's rockett 9 rocket successfully blasting off to space from cape canaveral overnight. the variant can be reused up to ten times, making missions in outer space much cheaper. the rocket debuted in may. it's already been used three times. the mission is carrying telecommunication satellite equipment for indonesia. >> those 11 bank employees in the south bay who won $543 million in the mega millions jackpot say they plan on keeping their jobs. the employees work at this wells fargo branch in san jose. they each put in $2 into the office pool and ended up after federal taxes with at least $19 million each. wells fargo has brought other

problems. >> go in and make friends with them now. >> let's talk about what's going on outside. if you have friends coming into sfo or business acquaintance, partly cloudy and 54 degrees. there's a possibility of some delays there. stronger sea breeze today, but still going to be hot inland while all rest of us will be comfortable. tonight, low clouds and fog come back. we have a warming trend still coming, but by the weekend, going to be nonexistent. great for outdoor activities. here's a look at the yare caw of low pressure, so dominant over the eastern pacific. today, bringing us more of a sea breeze. the closer you are to the breeze coming off the cool water, the cooler you'll be this afternoon. sunnyvale, 81. low to mid 90s around los gatos and morgan hill. low to mid 80s on the peninsula today. as you head northward towards the san bruno gap where the cool air is shootin through, mid to upper 70s. along the coast, see the white? the clouds going to be more stubborn today. that means upper 50s to low 60s.

then mid 60s in downtown to upper 60s in south san francisco and sausalito. low 60s, a little more sunshine around the north bay coast. as you move inland, we'll have sunshine and mid 80s to mid 90s. east bay shore, one of the mildest spots with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s here and some of our hottest temperatures, mid to upper 90s in the east bay valleys even as you het to brentwood, 102. my seven-day forecast, going to stay halt inland wednesday and thursday, but the bay will get a touch of that as we reach the mid 80s. near 70 at the coast thursday, and by the time we get to saturday and sunday, back to the 60s. low 60s at the coast, near 80 around the bay, and near 90 inland. that looks pretty good. alexis. >> it sure does. the roads are looking good, too. we really have not had any major problems so far today. just looking at typical slow spots starting to fill in, and one getting out of tracy. westbound 205 to 580, down to 7 miles per hour, and 14 miles per hour respectively. no issues for the north bay so

far this morning. here's a live look at 101 through the san rafael stretch. we could have fog. golden gate bridge is looking pretty foggy, but no dense fog advisory in effect right now. the only drive time in the red that is slow, westbound 580, tracy to dublin, up to about 54 minutes. southbound 680, dublin to mission boulevard in the green at 16, and highway 85, 101 to cupertino looking great at 13 minutes. you guys have got to take a look at this incredible video from a highway in toronto. follow the blue circle. a car plows through a green suv that was stranded on the median. hard to watch. debris and people go flying everywhere. on the left, a man in shorts picking himself off the road. he had been thrown from the white car. now, i know you're thinking how is anyone even alive after this. two people were hospitalized, they are okay. and the video was captured by a tow truck driver getting set up in front of this disabled vehicle. and on his facebook page, he said people need to slow down.

breeze. you can see the winds all blowing from the oceans into our neighborhoods. even some mist along the coast and into san francisco with the clouds covering the embarcadero, at least the top of that, and the salesforce camera at pier 15. let's roll out the 12-hour planner. the morning temperatures remain the same. mid to upper 50s. the afternoon temperatures just slightly cooler at the coast and around the bay because of the slower sunshine. but inland, we're still going to hit the 90s. pretty comfortable evening on the way. 50s at the coast to 60s around the bay and 70s inland. let's find out about the morning commute. >> hey, yeah. no major issues so far this morning. looking live at the bay bridge where we had a night mare on the eastbound side yesterday. today, looking great. looking at a little fog when you make it over to the san francisco side, and got word that the metering lights are on if you're coming in from the east bay. that happened around 5:26 this morning. it's ramping up but that's about it.

drive times for a lot of the bridges looking great. westbound 580, just seven minutes. 13 minutes across the san mateo bridge, and westbound 84 across the dumbarton bridge in the green at nine minutes. >> thank you. this morning, b.a.r.t. riders may notice more officers as the agency is trying to reassure riders the system is safe. >> this after a series of high profile and deadly attacks. b.a.r.t. is attempting to repair its image and holes in its security. amy hollyfield is live in pleasanton. >> hi. b.a.r.t. officials have spent the last two weeks reviewing the system's security. and looking for ideas on how to improve it, but one idea officials have makes some riders a bit uncomfortable. the proposal is to take -- add facial recognition technology to the cameras in the system. the idea is that it would find people who pose a known threat and get them out of the system. get them off the trains. but when you ask riders about

it, they aren't so sure this is the right answer. >> that would be good. it would be okay, but you know, privacy. you don't want to cross that line. you know? just, you know, targeting somebody. >> kind of a big brother dragnet approach. this is very targeted of folks who have a warrant out for their arrest. >> that's one idea. one part of b.a.r.t.'s plan is already in effect. you will now see more officers patrolling the system. b.a.r.t. has temporarily canceled days off for its officers so they will now be working six ten-hour days a week. this is temporary, but officials say does boost the visible presence of officers. so proposals like this one can be done with the general managers authority, but other ideas like the facial recognition technology, that needs the board's approval. that idea will be presented to the board at this week's meeting

on thursday. reporting live from the dublin b.a.r.t. station, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> abc7news.com and the app full of b.a.r.t. resources including advice on what you should do if you feel unsafe on the system. the mendocino complex wildfire is now the largest wildfire event in california history. >> it's made up of two fires but crews are treating this as one event, and together, the ranch and river fires have scorched 283,000 acres. the smaller river fire is 58% contained. the ranch fire, just 21% contained. firefighters say this is one of the most challenging wildfie seasons they have seen. >> we're looking at over 629,000 acres of ground and vegetation burned in the state of california since july 1st of this year. last year, same period of time, 223,000 acres. mendocino complex surpasses last year's massive thomas fire which burned in santa barbara

and ventura counties. >> in redding, firefighters are making progress on the carr fire. they have it 47% contained. the carr fire has destroyed nearly 1100 homes and burned 164,000 acres of land. it's blamed for at least seven deaths. meanwhile, the airbnb community opening its doors to wildfire evacuees and relief workers. each stay is free. you can find beds or rooms at airbnb.com. if you would like to help, you can offer the use of your own home. >> the sonoma county board of supervisor will consider a plan to install a network of web cameras to help emergency responders spot wildfires. it would cost the county $475,000. eight cameras would be positioned on communication towers and other existing structures to spot fires in the lake sonoma watershed. the technicians creating the cameras hope they'll one day allow firefighters to detect wildfires the moment they begin. >> happening today, california lawmakers will hold a joint

hearing to try to solve the issue of those extremely long wait times at state dmv offices. phil ting from san francisco and jim frasier from contra costa county will spearhead efforts to find solutions. wait times have grown out of control because of a crush of people trying to get the federally compliant real i.d. the dmv recently expanded saturday hours to try to cut down on wait times. now to the peninsula where one city the debating how high the buildings should rise into the sky. they were at san mateo city haunl as the city council rejected a ballot proposal. it would have asked voters to extend the city's current five-story limit for another ten years. that limit expires in 2020. supporters of the proposal says the city doesn't have the infrastructure to support taller buildings and the large population that would come along with it. opponents argue the city needs more housing. san francisco police want to find two people who beat and robbed an elderly man. police say the attackers were a

man and woman who offered the 86-year-old a ride. happened in the mission district saent night. police say the attackers asked the man if he needed a ride near 16th and hoff streets. he got in, they asked for his money, and then punched him as he tried to get out. the man expected to be okay. >> the paul manafort trial continues today in verirginia there was damaging testimony yesterday in the trial. the prosecution's star witness rick gates took the stand and testified he helped his former boss commit crimes. manafort's accused of falsifying tax returns and failing to report millions in income. gates told jurors that over several years. they hid their income in foreign bank accounts. he says at least some of the money that was hidden came from manafort's work on behalf of ukrainian politicians with deep ties to russia. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. let's get the current conditions up in the mendocino complex fires. the ranch fire, calm in the

valleys. temperature, 61. up about 2800 feet, though, in the river fire, we did have winds gusting out of the northwest at 14 to 22 just about an hour ago. so even at night, the higher elevations are still staying breezy. in the lower elevations, it's going to remain calm through 10:00 and we'll pick up this afternoon, possibly up to 15 miles per hour at 4:00, and then the winds taper once again. so in that respect, conditions improving for the firefighters, and in this respect, getting more dangerous as we'll reach 98 today. 100 tomorrow and thursday. and then mid to upper 90s all the way through monday. cool weather right now, as we take a look at our east bay valleys. temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s in most neighborhoods. 63 in danville, 62 in pleasanton. antioch at 69, some of the warm spots. that's about all of the areas we have save the south bay. 65 in san jose. low to mid 50s around the bay shore, and upper 40s to low 50s in the north bay. quick look at the san mateo bridge.

back to chicago one day later on another american flight. the airlie blaming the issue on miscommunication. two fast paced programs are getting east bay kids off the streets and onto a course that challenges their physical and mental skills. in richmond, the city recently opened a new bmx bike course called dirt world. city funds and donations helped build the course in hopes of luring kids off the streets. that's where the program flood the streets with bikes is based. founder howard cato was paralyzed during a shooting, and cato says what fueled his rehabilitation was the goal of returning to bmx bike racing. >> they helped me get back into it, so i think for me, it's pretty much helping give back to my community for the good things it has done to me, i can help the next kid do that. >> both dirt world and flood the streets with bikes have partnered with gofundme to raise money for those programs. if you would like more

90s to 102 in the east bay valleys. tonight's temperature, 51 in santa rosa to antioch at about 64. my accuweather seven-day forecast, still have the mid to upper 90s and near 100 wednesday and thursday. inland with low to mid 80s around the bay and comfortable around the coast in the 60s. >> hey, good morning. i want to head back to the south bay where it sounds like crews are still on the scene of some type of brush fire. they are still sorting out the exact location, but it is right around the northbound side of 680 around berryessa road. we could have an on ramp or off ramp blocked in the area. i don't believe we have lanes on the main line blocked. also seeing a little bit of heavy traffic in northbound 101 between 280, 680, about halfway to the 880 merge. down to 16 miles per hour. no incidents reported in that area, so seems like it's a little early for that to be in the red. i'm keeping an eye on that, too. you're okay once you make it to 880, though.
