the father of a newborn gunned down on the bay bridge. for the first time we are hearing from the family of the texas movie producer whose violent death caused hours of chaos during monday morning's commute. right now police are still looking for the gunman in yesterday's deadly shooting. and as they do that a father in texas can't figure why someone would have wanted to kill his son. he was working in san francisco

over the weekend and leaves behind two boys including a newborn. amanda? >> reporter: reggie, he says his 31-year-old son was a father of two young children. he says the family is originally from texas, but darryl junior was in san francisco for the weekend for work. he was in san francisco for the weekend working the music entertainment scene as an artist, manager, promoter and marketer. >> he was in san francisco doing a job, and when they finished the job they left, and that's the end of my son right there. >> early monday morning darryl, jr. was driving this black suv heading eastbond on i-80. he was approaching treasure island when someone in a gray or silver sedan fired shots

him and injuring two others. he picked up the phone and called the medical examiner himself. >> he said, yeah, i can tell you his height, gave me some stuff, you know, markings on his body and i knew right then that was my son. >> reporter: a man family and friends have always called him little pooh. darryl, jr. was dad to a 10-year-old and newborn baby. >> his oldest son adored him, he just thinks the world of him, thinks he's mr. super man. >> reporter: for now the stanettes don't know what to think. >> i went through this before and by all means don't want to be going through it now.

>> reporter: the two men with stanette was taken to san francisco hospital with gunshot wounds, one of them was released yesterday and the second is in fair condition. >> amanda, thank you. and now to lake county where te mendocino complex is the biggest wildfire in state history. state officials are making some significant progress. not over yet. > not over yet, reggie. we just got some new numbers in the last few hours and a notable update is the containment. that a drop of 1% from earlier this morning, but we also have learned that crews made significant headway in the river fire. that is now 78% contained. so that is the big headline out of that. the entire complex as burned

more than 200,000 acres, 100 structures are destroyed, 75 of those are homes. meanwhile up north in the redding area firefighters still battling the deadly carr fire. that's now burned more than 167,000 acres. and a huge fire that sparked yesterday grew quickly overnight forcing evacuations there. it's being called the holy fire. the fire has burned 4,000 acres and still only 2% contained this midday, and at least two firefighters are being treated for heat related injuries. there is a red flagace for part california right now. so reggie, a good reminder for everyone to be mindful as this fire season is off to a deadly and historic start.

>> looks like firefighters don't have to worry about the winds today. the heat is another story. what do you see? >> i've got some details. there's no fire related watches, warnings or advisories out there. let me show you what's going on up around the ranch fire, river fire. you can see the latest outline now about to surround the indian valley reservoir. calm conditions there but up in the hills about 2,800 feet you can see northwest winds 10 to 15 miles per hour. then they calm down at night which hopefully will allow them to get containment at a greater area than what they have right now. the problem with these firefighters look at the temperatures flirting with 100 today, tomorrow and through the early parts of next week. s far it's been murky through our neighborhoods, but most of that smoke is well above where we are breathing right now. i'll let you know if that's going to change coming up.

video shows the plane taking a nosedive on sunday. it took off from concord. his wife laura was also on the plane as well as her coworkers. they worked at a real estate auf office in danville. a scene we have watched far too often, reports of an active shooter at a school or concert and we depend on our officers to end it. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield has been watching this live in dublin. >> reporter: hey, reggie. yeah they're using these blue plastic guns and firing plastic bullets at other so aheca rce fce and makineast ablo getms

to be stopped. the key now is to get in right away. that's just one of many lessons law enforcement has learned from real shootings. >> whoever gets their first you need to move to the crisis and of the crisis immediately. there's no waiting for s.w.a.t. to come anywhere. >> reporter: law enforcement says being here makes a huge difference. in the past they found themselves trying to do in warehouses. >> there are desks and locked doors and obstacles in the way officers have to work through. that's important. a big warehouse is just a sterile environment. >> reporter: one thing officers have unfortunately are plenty of examples to learn from. they tell the students this is one way to do it not the way. >> so the training is always evolving. so whether it's something like the parkland shooting or san

afternoon. it's houston against the astros. what's traffic going to be like? >> one way you can always tell the giants have a game is by looking at the bay bridge toll plaza. if you are just a late commuter from the east bay you are getting in this game day traffic. but once you make it past the meter lights the rest isn't too bad. and a little bit of heavy traffic around the surface streets around the ballpark, too. quick check on mass transit if you do take the san francisco ferry back to vallejo they do have a lot of traffic. thousands of homeless people on the streets of san francisco. how officials are reaching out to help them. also the father of a missing college student says he has a theory on how she disappeared. and really different kind of ride

federal appeals court today arguing against president trump's border wall, specifically california contends the trump administration overreached by waiving environmental reviews to speed construction of the wall. those reviews are subject to prolonged legal challenges that can delay or even derail projects. in february a u.s. district judge sided with the administration leading to today's appeal. san francisco becoming more proactive to address homelessness. a three month assessment blitz is now under way. in november the people with the biggest need will be placed into supportive housing. this is all part of mayor london breed's $60 million effort to address homelessness in the city. despite the name it's not quite like uber still. it will get you around. and investigators keeping a close eye on tesla after elon musk's latest tweet.

all right, let's take a look and show you what's going on. you can see that's the visible satellite and in all that murkiness and haze you see, that is the smoke during the overnight hours that due to high pressure overtaking our state didn't vent off to the east like it has been. it's just sitting here and just kind of meandering around. in fact it's starting to fill in more and more neighborhoods as you look. in fact it goes all the way to the central sections of the

valley indefinitely until they can get that ferguson fire out. and now you've got the holy fire also feeding smoke into that area. let's take a look. already red, that is unhealthy amounts of pollution in the air for everybody. orange for the most sensitive, yellow is what we like to see. and green, you just don't see a lot of it away from the coast. a lot of orange and red. unfortunately it's going to stay that way for the next several days. that's all the smoke and it's filtering our sunshine and our temperatures are anywhere from 5 to 15 degrees cooler like like e rosa now 62. 50s in oakland and some 70s as you head into the east bay valleys and south bay. in fact, this is beautiful picture of the sandwich of clouds we're dealing with right now. the low clouds there you go, and that's the smoke unfortunately. thankfully, it is staying in the

upper parts of the atmosphere. so we're going to have a smoky sky today some of that smoke could come down, and that's why we have an air quality advisory for our north bay and east bay neighborhoods. it's not a warning but just to let you know there will be some spots once in a while that could get a little dicy. that's going to see some relief from the heat that's going to build up the next couple of days. today though if you're out on the beaches some air quality issues. you can see the small craft advisory from noon to 9:00 and all those areas in yellow. 70s for the rest of the bay, 80s in the south bay and east bay. and temperature will be around 62 degrees with hazy sunshine. tonight it's african-american heritage night over at the a's as they welcome the dodgers. first pitch will be about 67,

and drop down so grab a coat there. you can see even with the smoke the warmth is going to take over tomorrow into thursday and linger inland. by the time we get to saturday and sunday, temperatures back to average. >> we have to be the only ballpark in the country hat has a 62 degree high today. >> it's crazy. other teams come in here and it's really the fall. the stock market is speculating about the future of tesla after a tweet from ceo elon musk. and here it is. he tweeted i'm considering taking tesla private at $420. funding secured. shares for the palo alto based company jumped at the news. tesla has been publicly traded since 2010 and so far we haven't heard another peep from musk. if you get frustrated when amazon alexa can't answer your

question, well for the next few days amazon will be rolling out voice updates. that allows your assistant to memorize your question and get back to you when it can answer it. google sold more speakers than amazon during the first quarter this year. great story here about an amish man in michigan who's putting a new spin on ride sharing. he makes some extra cash on the% weekends giving rides in his horse and buggy. and he is calling it amish uber. $5 and he'll offer you tours of his tiny town. for the record he isn't aff affiliated with uber in anyway. there is no app. you actually have to hail him on the road the old-fashioned way, but he thinks that uber is, quote, pretty cool. no more touring for lady gaga in the near future.
