community tells me her community feels a little safer tonight. live in oakland, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. >> thank you. abc 7 news was also in san jose where hundreds of people enjoyed national night out at emma prusch farm park. the captain believes an evening of family fun can build year round trust between the citizens and the officers who serve them. >> our job is to go out in the community and be one with the community and work with them closely to help them solve crimes, to help them help themselves in their own neighborhood. getting neighbors to meet neighbors they've maybe never met before. >> while younger kids enjoyed getting their faces kidse til e a zip-line. well, the dmv is taking new steps to reduce wait times that can sometimes take up to eight hours. abc 7 news was at the san jose driver's license processing center today where one of the new options is available. take a look. it's an automated kiosk to help customers check in. the dmv is also bringing in more employee, opening some offices

earlier and working on a text notification program to alert waiting customers. people in san jose liked the idea of the kiosks, but weren't sure they would be effective. >> i don't see many people using them. i think because many people don't know how to use computers or something. but it doesn't seem to help. >> today state lawmakers questioned the dmv director about the wait time. she apologized saying they're caused by a higher demand for new federally mandated real ids. >> elon musk rocked investors with 61 characters on twitter about his multimillion-dollar plans to take the electric carmaker private. nasdaq even suspended the buying and selling of tesla's stock for a short time. but when trading resumed tesla gained more than $37 in value closing at $379.57. musk says no final decision has been made, but he explained that tesla shareholders could remain as investors or have their stock bought at $420 per share.

the larger of two fires that make up the mendocino complex fire incident is burning out of control. tonight it's just 20% contained. that's down from 30% last night, and it's moved from lake county into colusa county. firefighters are gaining control of the smaller of the two fires near ukiah, allowing many evacuees to return home. people in upper lake today said firefighters did an incredible job holding back the flames. >> at points, hundreds. 100 feet high back there. it was just like an oven coming towards us. >> the whole back is burnt, and the sides over here. but they stuck it out and saved our park. >> the combined fires have grown to 292,000 acres, becoming the largest wildfire incident in california history. president trump spoke up for the first time today about the california wildfires. >> it's been a very tough situation taking place in california for a number of years. and we're going to have to have some meetings about it, because

there are reasons and things you can do mitigate what's happening. >> his comments referenced a tweet he sent sunday saying the wildfires are, quote, made much worse by bad environmental laws, and water is foolishly being diverted into the pacific ocean. cal fire replied saying there is no water shortage, and climate change is what is making these fires worse. take a look. we want to give you a little perspective on the size of the mendocino complex fires. take a look. they would cover most of the bay area. >> now there will be a spare the air alert tomorrow because of smog and wildfire smoke. this is what it looked like from our tower cameras at sunset. gorgeous sunsets but rle spencer? >> no doubt quality is deg. this satellite looping image will give an dwlofd buildup of smoke and particulate matter. even ash moving not only to the bay area, but a wide expansion of the state. but certainly we're beginning to sense it here. well can smell it and even taste it sometimes in the air.

now the air qualities declining to the point that tomorrow is going to be a spare the air day here in the bay area. we'll have moderate air quality in most locations, but it will be poor in the inland east bay and the santa clara valley. and this air quality forecast for tomorrow shows you what's happening here with the yellow and green dots indicate a good air quality. notice a couple of the orange dots in the inland east bay, represent diagnose decline in air quality in those regions. and of course farther to the east it's all red and orange, indicating unhealthful air. dan? >> spencer, thanks very much. >> the suspect in a double stabbing at the macarthur bart station saturday night has been arrested. 27-year-old solomon espinosa, this man was taken into custody by u.s. marshals early this afternoon. he was wanted in connection with an attack that happened on a richmond-bound bart train. one of the victims was cut on the arm. the other had a cut to the face. neither injury is life threatening. new at 11:00, a man is alive tonight after his car plunged 300 feet off a remote road in

marin county. another driver happened to see it happen and called for help. that other driver point rescuers to the wrecked car dangling in a tree in deep foliage. firefighters worked for an hour to free that man this afternoon. rescuers then carried him to alpine dam where awaiting chp chopper took him to a trauma center. well, if you live or work in san francisco, you now have a new online tool to help find out if construction and other projects will affect your commute. san francisco's mta has unveiled this website. it lets you focus on a single nighborhood the find out about changes to muni service, bike lanes, or parking. the mta says suggestion and complaints from commuters inspired this interactive map. you can find it by going to our website, abc7news.com. well, a warning for parents as you start your become to school e your child sick. tackling the nightly struggle of getting kids to go to bed. how some popular disney characters could help. and glitz and glamour on the jade carpet.
