we are so drawn down in the state our resources will be coming from further and further. ordinarily if this was the only fire we would have 600 people here yesterday. >> at least one cabin has gone up in flames. several campgrounds in the area are evacuated. no homes are threatened in lake elsinore, the closest city to the fire. stay with "abc 7 mornings" as we continue tracking these wildfires. find the most up to date fire maps at abc7news.com. >> it's 4:30. just joining us let's get an update on weather and traffic and you are never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. hi, mike. >> hey, jessica, reggie, everybody. here's the latest, fire weather watch and this does include mendocino, up to the carr fire and this begins at 2:00 tomorrow afternoon through saturday at 11:00. we'll have the winds pick up at of the southwest at 35 miles per hour and the humidity levels

drop down to 20%. i wouldn't be surprised if this was upgraded tomorrow. back here at home we still have the sea breeze saving us for now. we checked our air quality it's okay but going to get worse as the day unfolds and that haze and the smoke in the upper parts of the atmosphere starts to roll down to the ground. the most likely areas for poor air quality the east bay and south bay and well into the north bay. notice it's going to be warmer inland also. >> mike, we have a dense fog advisory for golden gate bridge this morning. looking at this traffic camera it's not looking too bad right now. definitely a little haze, maybe mist too. i had to flip my wipers on when i got into san francisco this morning. it is possible. it's out there in some areas this morning. overall we're off to a quiet start, westbound 580 trace to dublin, westbound 4 antioch to concord in the green at 13 and southbound 101 san rafael to san francisco looking great. we'll head back to a rollover crash coming up next. >> thanks. developing news now on the

persistent long lines at the dmv. >> state lawmakers will continue to push for an audit of the agency. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo live in san jose for us. amanda? >> jessica, reggie, promising news from the dmv this morning. more being done to reduce the wait times. we got a look at the automated kiosk option which will help customers with check-in and the approach will involve the department bringing in more employees, shifting operating hours to start earlier and using text notifications. san jose neighbors say the news seems promising but they're skeptical about the addition of kiosks. >> i don't see many using them because i think many don't know how to use computers. it doesn't seem to help. >> and the last year long wait times have drawn scrutiny from lawmakers and in just a few

hours assemblyman jim patterson will be presenting an audit request. he's demanding accountability for what he says is a deeply mismanaged agency. we know that the -- my lawmakers have felt the department prepared poorly for the expected increase of visitors, especially with the new addition of that federally mandated request. those require in person visits. we're going to look into that and be back at 5:30. reporting live outside of dmv in san jose, amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. >> thank you. jury deliberations set to begin in the case against monsanto. closing arguments wrapped up in a san francisco superior courtroom yesterday. 37-year-old dwyane lee johnson filed a civil suit against the pesticide manufacturer. he worked for the school district as a pest manager and a large part of his job was spraying roundup weed killer.

johnson's attorneys say after two and a half years of spraying the pesticide 30 times a year he was diagnosed with nonhodgkins lymphoma. >> i want monsanto to be punished for what they done and if it requires one big case to change their conduct to put a warning on the label, then absolutely. >> the message from that evidence is clear and it's that this cancer was not caused by ranger pro. >> the trial has been precedent setting as it is the first of thousands of similar lawsuits. plaintiffs seeking more than $39 million in compensatory damages and $373 million in punitive damages. the man wanted for a double stabbing at the macarthur bart station is in jail. u.s. marshals took solomon espinosa into custody yesterday. he was wanted in connection with an attack on a richmond bart train on friday.

one of the victims cut on the arm and the other on the face. the votes are in after a high-stakes election in ohio. the results are too close to call. the special congressional election is a key test for president trump and the republicans' fight to keep control on capitol hill. more from abc news director mary alice parks. >> reporter: overnight, just three months before the midterm elections in november, a major political matchup coming down to the final few votes. president trump tweeting that his visit to ohio's 12th congressional district was enough to help republican troy balderson eek out a win in the special election. balderson thanked the president in his speech. >> over the next three months i'm going to do everything i can to keep america great again. >> reporter: late into the night, the race still too close to call. many provisional ballots remain uncounted. the race could end up in a

recount. the fanailbiter letting both sis claim a victory. danny o'connor made up huge ground in this area that had been a republican stronghold for decades. the last time a republican won this district by over 30 points. the state's republican governor john kasich summarized the race on "abc's this week" over the weekend. >> it's kind of shocking. this should be a slam dunk and it's not. >> reporter: another race the president thought he would be able to put away cleanly the republican gubernatorial race in kansas. a dead heat with the incumbent governor. mary alice parks, abc news, new york. this is san jose at 87 where it's cloudy right now. clean air and 59 degrees, but this area the santa clara valley

and our inland neighborhoods that have the potential of poor air quality from the smoke all from those wildfires to our north and to our south. here's a look at the fog i'm watching form also around petaluma. visibility a mile up to three miles in santa rosa and two at half moon bay. a little mist along the coast once again this morning. be careful for that. let's talk temperatures and neighborhoods. low to mid 60s pittsburgh, antioch and brentwood. mainly mid to upper 50s elsewhere in our inland east bay neighborhoods. what's going on, you can see the clouds hanging low from our exploratorium camera at pier 15. the foggy spots this morning when driving. ferry ride to small craft advisory today. mass transit, spare the air, use it as much as you can. let's take a look at one of those areas that's going to warm into the 80s today. that would be the north bay after starting off with fog and clouds and 55 this morning. total sunshine except for the haze, the film in the air once again. we'll warm to 74 at noon. 77 by about 6:00. down into the 60s by 8:00. it will be pretty comfortable.

going to be tough to be outside with the poor air quality. >> the next couple days it sounds like. >> with the fire watch, that means conditions possibly getting worse as we head towards the weekend. something we both have to watch. >> you hate to hear that. we are quiet on the roads. spare the air day today. if you can use mass transit, or carpool, that is highly recommended. we are looking at the early drivers here on the bay bridge. we had a problem disabled vehicle westbound 80 around ninth street in san francisco. they were able to clear that. chp arrived quickly and got that out of the way and we're not seeing any delays from the eastern span of the bay bridge into the city. want to zoom in quickly to another potential problem in the east bay. does sound like it is the eastbound side of 24. rollover crash. sounds like the driver is not at the scene, but the vehicle is upside down. the off ramp blocked right now but that's about it. that is a developing situation. we'll take a look at drive times coming up next.

. you are never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. >> this is "abc 7 mornings." >> as if we need another threat out there. the highest fire danger is around los angeles up in the mountains and this is until 10:00 this evening. thankfully a very sparsely populated area but it would thin our already stretched out resources. hopefully that doesn't come to fruition. you can see the poor air quality as close as discovery bay and tracy and the entire san joaquin valley into the sierra again today. as far as temperatures, you can see the heat. 107 in palm springs, 104 fresno, mid to upper 90s through the central valley to 87 in tahoe. thinking about heading up that way any time soon we still got in unhealthy air through friday. >> thanks, mike. amazon looking for 200 people to fill work from home jobs. >> the company posted the openings. the position in different fields like customer service, sales and human resources. although work from home means you don't necessarily have to go into the office, the company

>> reporter: don't know where that is? the east cut is the rebranding of rancon hill, part of south beach, a new name itself, and about 30 blocks surrounding the transbay terminal. >> it's probably cool for all the hipsters to say i live in the east cut. it sounds edgy, i guess. >> names do change over time, but i would have a tendency to keep the original name just for historical purposes. >> reporter: banners proclaiming the east cut pay homage to history mentioning the gold rush and old coffee manufacturers in the neighborhood. >> as long as it's not offensive, i'm fine with it. >> do they allow the residents around here to vote on it? how did they decide? >> reporter: a community benefit district made up of about 4500 property owners, business and residential, came up with the name. andrew robinson is executive director. >> if the city doesn't get involved in the naming of neighborhoods, they are organic and come from the community. >> reporter: on its website the

most of the south bay in the low to mid 80s with san jose checking in at 85 degrees. we've got a lot of mid to upper 70s on the peninsula. redwood city about 80. towards los altos the warm spot. still not a lot of sunshine. notice the upper 60s in downtown and south san francisco and south sausalito. mid to upper 80s through most of the north bay valleys. you get around 100 in lakeport and ukiah. unfortunately the firefighters there dealing with the heat. mid to upper 70s along the east bay shore and our last stop will be our inland neighborhoods, low to upper 90s. as far as temperatures, comfortable tonight. we will fall back into the 50s. low clouds, fog and mist. my accuweather seven-day forecast, the temperatures ramp up tomorrow and hold for friday and saturday, and sunday and monday relax back to average. >> overall it has been a quiet

start on the roads although we have dense fog advisory in effect for golden gate bridge and i have the visibility layer on our traffic maps. live doppler 7 picking up pretty dense fog along the 101 corridor. we have a crash on the northbound 101 before state route 37. solo vehicle. sounds like it cut across all lanes and now off on the shoulder waiting for the tow truck to take that one away. drive times looking good. richmond-san rafael bridge 13 minutes, and 8 minute drive across dumbarton. a jacksonville, florida, teen who says he was kicked out of his home by his parents because of his sexual orientation will pay nothing to go to his dream school next month. >> georgetown university adjusted 18-year-old seth owens' financial aid package reducing his contribution from $20,000 to zero. owens' aid package had been based on his parents' ability to

sunol glen, 62 at 9:00 a.m. what's going on with hector as it barrels on the islands. it continues to weaken, category 3, 125-mile-per-hour winds moving to the west at 16, going to go south of the islands where it's going to be breezy with a potential of flooding rains and definitely dangerous surf. here's alexis. >> good morning, mike. a new problem in the north bay. want to take you up to the point ray station area where we have got downed power lines that has state route 1 closed in both directions there south of drake boulevard off of shoreline highway. this is a sig alert. it sounds like there was a fire involved with these lines down too. no vehicles are getting by. the fire department is saying it's going to be an hour before they can get these cleared out of the roadway. not great if you are trying to travel through that area. san mateo bridge looking good. light volume so far on westbound 92. next traffic update at 5:00.

>> thanks. amazing story here. a wedding d that a teenager who nearly drowned won't forget. cindy and zach edwards were posing for wedding photos on a beach in alabama last week when a woman came up and said someone was struggling in the water. zach happens to be a former lifeguard and member of the coast guard and his new wife told him to get moving. >> she said don't worry about your pants, just go. you got to listen to your wife, otherwise you're in trouble. >> he went to take off his bottoms, you don't have time. the guy kept drifting further out and he was struggling. >> good man. zach pulled the teen to shore with the help of other rescuers. the young man survived and began his senior year of high school on monday. as you can see they continued taking their wedding photos. >> wow. that's great. that's a great story. fight for 15 is the slogan for groups pushing to raise minimum wage to $15 an hour and new at 5:00, why one bay area city is considering freezing its
