grow again. wayne friedman, nbc 7 news. >> thank you so much, wayne. at 469 square files, the mendocino complex fire is the largest in state history. to put it in perspective, the city of los angeles is 468.7 square miles. on the east coast, the fire is massively larger than the entire five boroughs of new york city. those five boroughs encompass 304 square miles. at least 58 major fires are burning in california right now. there's so many fires spread out so far, firefighters are coming from out of the country to help battle all the flames. in northern california, the carr fire has now burned more than 173,000 acres and is 47% contained. yosemite national park reopened this morning, but only for residents. it's been closed for more than a week because of the ferguson fire. those residents were warned not to drink or cook with the tap

water until further notice. the ferguson fire has burned 91,000 acres and is at 38% containment. police arrested a man in connection with the southern california wildfire that burned 12 cabins and led to evacuations. 51-year-old forest gordon clark is being held on $1 million bail. he was arrested in connection with the so-called holy fire which has burned six square miles and is still only 5% contained. today the trump administration ordered federal agencies to override endangered special protections to prioritize using water to fight wildfires in california. the director by commerce secretary wilbur ross comes after the tweet that said they didn't have enough water to fight the fires. we reached out about today's announcement and they the same statement.

manteca police to help morning. a multimillion dollar settlement has been reached over that gas blowout, the methane release forced thousands from their homes three years ago. the leak lasted four months and prompted many health complaints. it was the largest single release of methane in u.s. history. under the $120 million settlement, so cal gas will reimburse local, county and state governments for costs associated with the blowout. jury deliberations under way in the case of weed killer manufacturing, dwayne lee johnson filed the suit against the pesticide manufacturer. after 2 1/2 years of spraying the pesticide, he was diagnosed with non-hodgkin's lymphoma. abc 7 has obtained a copy of the jury verdict instruction form. if you'd like to what the jury must consider, go to

fest on abc and then abc 7 news at 11:00. some events can be life changing tragedies, also triumphs. the superintendent that claimed the life of a young boy's mother and left the child injured, has become a ray of hope thousands of miles away in africa. the update today is truly heartwarming. >> we first told you about abdul when he was 6 years old. he was injured in an auto accident when he was three months old, ejected from a car as it overturned 13 times. the accident took his mother's life and left abdul with traumatic brain injury. he's now ten years old. over the past five years, his father has been paying forward the kindness and support he received to help similar kids with disabilities in his native sierra leone in west africa, a nation where years of civil war have left young poem without limbs and physical therapy. a foundation has been created and >> it feels good to help other
