woodrow, abc 7 news. >> you've been covering this for a while so a couple years back bart was criticized because they had camera that's didn't work and now they want to have cameras that do work and they're being criticized for installing those cameras. so they can't win here. when will they take up this issue of surveillance cameras? >> reporter: so that next meeting that they're having on september 13th will be looking at the surveillance video issue again and as you said, it's one that a lot of people have a lot of thoughts on and at that meeting, the board will discuss and vote, they say they'll vote on what to do with the data that's collected from those surveillance cameras, both the cameras that they have now and the ones that they might add later. they need a surveillance camera policy and that they'll vote on that policy on september 13th. this is a policy that has been two years, two years in the making. >> wow. all right. that's a long time. thank you.

nightmarish turn in what was already a tragic story. police announced today that 47-year-old woman set herself on fire and that's what started the house fire that killed her twin daughters. 14-year-old trin and tram tran. one daughter an 11-year-old did escape and was injured in the fire but is expected to fully recovered and she's now staying with her father. a verified gofundme page was set up to support the tran family. it's raised almost $9,000. you can find the link to it on our website. emotional testimony today from family members of those who died in the warehouse fire in oakland. it was at the two day sentencing hearing for the men accused of being responsible for the fire. the two story warehouse packed with wooden pallets and powered by a make shift electrical system exploded in flames. they pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter and are expected to be sentenced to nine and six years respectively.

we'll hear from family members at 5:00. california's largest fire ever recorded is now more than half contained. fire officials say its still going to take several more weeks to fully surround this massive wildfire. the men din 475 square acres. it is at 51% containment. more residents were able to return to their homes today. people living in spring valley, high valley and the double eagle communities are now in evacuation advisory. people have go home but they have to be ready to leave again if conditions do change. now the carr fire. it's 48% contained. more than 177,000 acres have burned and there's been another death related to the fire. this morning a heavy equipment operator on his way to fight that fire was killed in a single car accident on highway 99. 40-year-old andrew brake was a six year veteran of cal fire.

now to the fire danger in southern california, the holy fire burning in cleveland national forest exploded to more than 9,600 acres this morning and is still only 5% contained. about 20,000 people near lake elsinore or under evacuation orders, others are ready to go. >> firefighters are trying to protect us, protect our community and try to do their best to risk their lives and, you know, try to take this fire down as soon as possible. >> this is video of a retardient drop in an effort to stop the flames. one man has been arrested and charged w charged with intentionally starting the fire. >> here's the general picture in terms of fire conditions. temperatures are in the middle 90s near most of these fires with low humidity under 25% and wind gusting 15 miles per hour in many locations.

given those conditions, red flag warnings in effect until 11:00 p.m. saturday for lake county and surrounding areas. gusts will range from 15 to 20 miles an hour. now today as you probably know it's the spare the air day. tomorrow air quality will improve despite the continuing presence of haze. we'll have moderate to good air quality across most of the bay area. nonetheless, look at the air quality alert area covering a huge portion of central california and it's not likely to get any better over the next couple days as fires continue to burn. larry? >> thank you. sky 7 was over a mystery boat that ran aground at the berkeley marina. the owner wasin inte for salvaging this vessel. if its still out there a week from today, the east bay regional park district has the authority to scrap it. this boat is a safety hazard where it sits right now.

there are disturbing new allegation abouts that compound in new mexico where investigators say 11 children were living in horrific conditions. >> marcy gonzalez has the latest. >> reporter: this desert compound home prosecutors say to 11 children and where the family of a missing 3-year-old from georgia says the child remains were found. >> we did find remains of a young boy. we discovered the remains yesterd yesterday. >> reporter: during raids at this compound in new mexico over the past week authorities discovered those remains they say still haven't been positively identified as this boy and say they found his father within arsenal of weapons charging him and four other adults living there with multiple counts of child abuse accusing them of holding their 11 children ages 1 to 15 with no food or clean water. in filthy conditions with no hygiene or medical care.

the father of one of the adults charged says the group was trying to create their own community and that his son texted him last week that they were struggling. >> they was saying that they was in dire need. they had ran out of money and they, you know, were starving. >> reporter: according to court documents, the foster family of one of the rescued children claims he was training the child in the use of an assault rifle in preparation for future school shootings. >> there was a shooting range built on the west side of the property. >> reporter: he has not yet entered a plea but his attorney denies the allegations against him. prosecutors are asking for him to be held without bail. marcy gonzalez, abc 7 news, los angeles. palo alto police say christian david poppy of henderson nevada during a traffic stop. investigators say he fired several shots at another man following a confrontation in the

parking lot of a safeway. police have yet to identify or locate the other man who took off in a white lexus suv. the reason for the confrontation is unknown and it's unclear whether the men knew each other and if the man who took off in the suv was hit by gunfire. new information on a desperate search for the missing iowa college student that has bay area ties. a man who may have been the last person to see mollie tib bets is now speaking exclusively to abc 7 news. the night before she was reported missing he saw her. it was not the first time he had seen her running several times a week. >> she jogged down the street, up the hill and it was just nothing of it until i heard somebody was missing and it really hit me and it's like i haven't seen that runner since then. >> law enforcement is not commenting about riley or any other potential witnesses. investigators say they've received nearly 800 tips about this case and the reward for

temperatures have climbed high in some spots. here's a view on sunny skies in areas right now. still breezy all around the bay area. talk about a warmup. check out the 24 hour temperature change most bay area locations right now are abo eight to 12 degrees warmer than they were at this hour yesterday. that's a significant warmup especially with all that haze and smoke hanging in the area as you can see here from this view from the tower looking northward. 69 degrees here in san francisco right now. 80 in oakland, san jose, 89, 100 at morgan hill, 59 at half moon bay. the sky looks fairly blue and not too haze. 83 in napa, 99 in fairfield, concord 95, 100 at livermore. looking at a smokey sky. these are our forecast features.

very warm inland again tomorrow perhaps not triple digit warm but still quite warm. air quality improves tomorrow cooler patternegins this weekend. whew. happy for that. overnight, a look for low temperatures under mainly clear skies away from the coast. in the mid-to-upper 50s. pretty much the range we have seen the last few weeks or so. less fog overnight. tomorrow, sunny skies, breezy at the coast. mainly mid and upper 70s around the bay and mainly mid-90s inland tomorrow where we had nearly 100 today. looking ahead beyond tomorrow, saturday will see minor cooling. the cooling will continue on sunday. temperatures settle back into a more seasonal average range and that will be the picture on monday as well. here we go with the accuweathera seven-day forecast. low '90s on saturday and most inland areas will probably not even reach 90 on sunday but then temperatures bounce back a

thking about pubc policy as it relates to these fires we need to address what needs to be discussed and dealt with at the short-term and we need to be invested in long-term solutions and so immediately it's about bringing the resources through fema and wherever else they may exist to fight the fires that are raging right now. bringing the fema resources and other resources where they may exist to helping the families who have been displaced and there are hundreds, especially over the last three years, many of whom from three years ago still have not been place and situated. helping them all rebuild their lives and rebuild their communities so there's that immediate work that needs to happen. there's also the work that needs to happen as we discussed looking at prevention -- >> you're listening live, she's california fire zone answering questions right now about the

(vo) ask your health care provider about tresiba®. announcer: live where you live, this is abc 7 news. and here are the headlines just past 4:30. a deadly fire that killed a woman and her twin daughters was caused by the mother setting herself on fire. a third daughter was able to escape that blaze. the fire started early on sunday morning. it was immediately considered to be suspicious. another firefighter assigned to the carr fire has died. the heavy equipment operator was killed in a traffic accident on highway 99. this is the third firefighter to die so far in that carr fire. and from the fire lines in lake county we're hearing stories of people coming to the aid of neighbors as well as their animals. one young woman who's saving the world one animal at a time.

news app. the trump administration making its strongest push yet for the establishment of a u.s. space force. today vice president pence announced the pentagon's detailed plan to create what would be the sixth branch of the military and the first new one in 70 years. mr. pence warned of the advancements potential adversaries are making and issued a call to arms to preserve america's dominance in space. >> now the time is come to write the next great chapter in the history of our armed forces. to prepare for the next battlefield where america's best and bravest will be called to deter and defeat a new generation of threats to our people. >> the creation of a space force would need congressional approval, the pentagon's top brass is reportedly luke warm about this idea with some expressing concern about adding yet another layer of bureaucracy. what do you think about a u.s. space force and let us know what you think and see the answers in realtime? >> people have already started

m mary ann wynn is one of the originals. we're also joined by marsha mather swift who is the executive director of rosie the riftor trust. you're one of the many women who worked in factory or ship yards during world war ii. talk about what you did. >> i was a pipe welder. i came from minnesota, 1944 after i graduated from high school and i just turned 18 years old. i was a pipe welder and the men would set up the pipes and we would weld them together and when we got them all welded, they'd take them to the ship and they were already welded in place, welded so they could put them right in place. >> that is incredible. you actually brought a picture here. do we have this picture to show where she's 18? any way, you are here in this picture with all these other women. this is so incredible and you've noticed a greater awareness actually of an appreciation of rosies in the past few years,

expected tonight at 7:00 but as you can see people have not wait today pay their respects to the young people killed here. you can see candles, lots of flowers and there's especially sad about the twin girls lost here over the weekend. what started as a suspicious fire investigation has now been deemed a suicide and double homicide. the police say 47-year-old mau dow set herself on fire on sunday morning around 2:45. her 11-year-old daughter escaped the burning home from a window. she flagged down a nearby officer for help. the 14-year-old twins trin and tran did not survive. investigators say both physical and electronic evidence as well as victim and witness statements support their belief that dau ignited the deadly fire. friend
