predicted. plus, the saucy scandal surrounding the u.s. pizza museum opening today. and the gut-busting, calorie-crashing megaburger. forget a quarter pounder. would you eat a seven-pounder? good friday morning. i'm maggie rulli in for diane macedo. >> i'm kendis gibson. we begin with a major ruling from a federal judge halting the deportation of a mother and child after their plane had even taken off. >> the judge threatened to hold attorney general jeff sessions in contempt and ordered the government to immediately bring the family back to the united states to seek asylum. abc's stephanie ramos has the new details. good morning, stephanie. >> reporter: hey, maggie and kendis, good morning. when it comes to the trump administration's new policy toward asylum seekers, the aclu says there's this disregard for the life-or-death circumstance that these immigrant women and

children are facing. a mother and daughter seeking asylum in the u.s. were deported by the trump administration while their case was still being heard in court. during their hearing, u.s. district judge emmet sullivan was told the mom and daughter were already on their way back to el salvador. reacting to the news, the judge said, this is pretty outrageous. somebody in pursuit of justice in a united states court is just spirited away while her attorneys are arguing for justice for her? he immediately ordered the government to turn their plane around and threatened contempt charges starting with attorney general jeff sessions if the situation isn't fixed. the aclu representing the pair tweeted, the mother and daughter are still going to have to fight the trump administration's illegal new asylum policy. they're challenging a recent policy change by the justice department that aims to speed up the removal of asylum seekers who fail to prove their cases.

this comes just as the parents of first lady melania trump officially became u.s. citizens through a process the president has repeatedly criticized as chain migration. >> under the current broken system, a single immigrant can bring in virtually unlimited numbers of distant relatives. >> the lottery system and chain migration, we're going to end them fast. >> reporter: the president's in-laws moved to the united states from slovenia and were just recently sponsored by their daughter. their attorney says they received no special treatment. sources tell abc news the mother and daughter ordered back to the u.s. are now on their way to a detention facility in texas. back over to you guys. >> they still have a long legal battle ahead. stephanie ramos, thank you. a state of emergency has now been declared and 20,000 people have been ordered to evacuate in southern california where the wildfire known as the holy fire has exploded in size. you can see the flames here. they're edging even closer to more homes in riverside county.

fire crews have been working around the clock. authorities say a man feuding with his neighbors set the fire. it's now spread to more than 10,000 acres. one resident caught this firenado. here we have abc's will carr who is on the front lines. >> reporter: this fire has made a serious run. you can see those flames racing up this hillside. check out just how close we are to homes in this area. we have firefighters up here standing their ground doing everything they can to protect these homes. you can see them spraying these flames down. >> meanwhile, eight deaths are now blamed on the wildfire burning around redding, california, including a fire mechanic killed in a traffic accident. well, the stage is set for a series of protests that could turn violent this weekend one year after the deadly clashes in charlottesville, virginia. the white supremacist who organized that rally is now planning a demonstration just steps from the white house. counterprotesters hope to outnumber them while police hope to keep the two sides far apart.

this morning, preparations are under way to mark the anniversary of this deadly violence in charlottesville, virginia. white nationalists and neo-nazis protesting the removal of a confederate statue and were met by counterprotesters. the sides engaged in violent brawls, and counterprotester heather heyer was killed when she was struck by a car that plowed into a crowd. >> i think there's blame on both sides. >> reporter: sunday marks one year since the deadly clash. virginia has declared a state of emergency in case of protests but many of the same groups are instead planning to protest here, washington, d.c.'s lafayette square park, just feet from the white house. >> we, the people of washington, d.c., say unequivocally that we denounce hate, we announce -- we denounce anti-semitism, and we denounce the rhetoric that we expect to hear this sunday. >> reporter: organizers of the unite the right rally have a permit to march and demonstrate

as do groups like black lives matter and even someone who will burn a confederate flag. members of the answer coalition are ready. >> we also don't believe that if ignored these groups will just go away. we believe that if ignored they will become emboldened and they will continue to grow, and we really can't allow that to happen. >> reporter: there's been an increase in acts of hate and white supremacist propaganda since charlottesville. by one count more than 3,000 incidents, mostly in the eastern u.s. in d.c. this weekend airbnb is warning it may expel anyone attending the alt-right rally as it did in charlottesville. and in addition to charlottesville and washington, police across the country are on alert for possible protests this weekend. the state department is calling for an investigation into air strikes led by saudi arabia that have left dozens of children dead in neighboring yemen. the u.s. has denied involvement in thursday's air strike, which apparently hit a school bus packed with children on a field trip. but the u.s. has been supplying

critically injured taken to local hospitals. a one stop assistance center for those affectedy the mendocino complex fire is now open. >> the smaller river fire is 87% contained and the ranch fire at 49% containment. fire officials say it will still take until at least next month to fully surround these fires. they've destroyed 119 homes, 9,000 structures are still threatened. the assistance center will help with everything from insurance matters to debris removal to food and medical care. it's at the alpine senior center, it will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. every day through next friday. the mendocino complex fires and other fires have made liability a hot topic at the state capital in sacramento, the main issue who should beonsiblt.
