near 80s around the bay. looking at the roads we have one significant collision this morning although the backup doesn't look as bad as it did a few minutes ago. northbound 680 it was blocking all lanes a few minutes ago. crews were able to open the far left lane. you may want to stick to 880 to bypass that. no word on how long it will take to clean up. to dublin, already at 32 minutes. westbound 4 in the green at 13 and southbound 101 to san francisco you're looking okay at 16 minutes. a retired redwood police officer is in custody after a 17 hour standoff. >> he was taken into custody around 7:30 last night. it started with a report of a domestic violence assault. we're told the female victim is

okay. he's identified as 55-year-old james mcgee. >> we knew he had police training, so we approached it in a way that would be the safest way to resolve it. >> pretty surprising. it's pretty quiet here. >> people along windsor way were told to shelter in place. happening today, more testimony at the sentencing hearing for the two men charged in oakland's ghost ship warehouse fire. families of the people killed in the fire are slamming the plea deal. families are calling the agreement a sweetheart deal. al men na-and harris had their back to the stand during part of the testimony yesterday. >> they should have faced us.

they should have looked at us. >> the sentence is unfair, it's unbalanced. it's neglect. >> they could have faced life in prison if convicted in trial. they already spent a year in jail and could end up serving only half of the sentence with good behavior. the fire took 36 lives and we have not forgotten them. you can read about them on our website and app. the first sexual abuse lawsuit will be filed against presentation high school and its current president and former principal, mary miller. last year a group of alumni accused the call girls school of failing to report sexual abuse complaints. several have alleged the school covered up more than a dozen cases that go back at least three decades. school officials said the campus responded appropriately to

reports of sexual harassment or abuse. they say the allegations are different now than what was reported to the school at the time. earlier this year the then principal, mary miller, declined our request for an interview but said we cannot erase the feelings or change the perceptions of some. but we can learn from it and move forward with greater resolve. a federal judge stopped the deportation in progress yesterday, threatened to hold attorney general jeff sessions and other homeland officials in contempt if the mother and daughter were not returned to the u.s. >> reporter: a mother and daughter seeking asylum in the u.s. were deported by the trump administration while their case was still being heard in court. during their hearing, the judge was told the mom and daughter were already on their way back to el salvador, reacting to the news the judge said this is

outrageous, somebody in pursuit of justice in a united states court is spirited away while her attorneys are arguing for justice for her. he immediately ordered the government to turn their plane around and threatened contempt charges starting with attorney general jeff sessions if the situation isn't fixed. the aclu tweeted, the mother and daughter are going to have to fight the trump administration's policy. they're challenging a policy change that aims to speed up the removal of asylum seekers who fail to prove their cases. this comes as the parents of first lady melania trump became citizens through a process the president has repeatedly criticized as chain migration. >> under the current system, a single immigrant can bring in virtually unlimited numbers of distant relatives. >> the lottery system and chain migration, we're going to end

starting sunday it will be the hub for bus service and muni buses have already been using the center. the jazz fest kicks off. the festival features r&b and nationally recognized as one of the biggest latin festivals in one of the country. the main stage in downtown san jose, headliners including herb albert and lanny hall, johnny kill, and kool & gang. celebrate good times, come on. i'm guessing the folks going to jazz fest can maybe wear shorts and a t-shirt as opposed to everyone outside lance who will be in their winter coat. >> exactly. of course, it's going to be nice down in san jose. perfect weather.

but right now we are dealing with fog and low clouds you can see it with live doppler 7, some of the fog has creeped in across san francisco into parts of the bay. here's the golden gate bridge, you can barely see the lane changer. so we have dense fog this morning near the coast and then it's going to be very warm to hot inland with lingering smoke through parts of the north bay and east bay valleys. but cooler and better air quality comes in today and continues into the weekend. highs today in the south bay, san jose will be 86, gilroy 96 degrees and santa cruz 75 degrees. for the echb for the events going around the bay, perfect weather. check out the coast, still cool there with the sea breeze and cloud cover. only 60s for the sunset

district. mid 90s through napa, and that's where we'll see the hazy skies. and it's a pool day if you're heading to the inland areas or staying there. almost near 100 in brentwood. here's the seven day forecast. so we've got still a very warm day but we have the hazy skies in the inland areas and east bay areas, slightly cooler and better air quality saturday, sunday and into monday. love to hear that news. and traffic looking great so far this morning, too. we had an early issue on 680, that is gone. one potential problem on eastbound 580. the lighter side of traffic, it does sound like we have a solo vehicle crash, seeing heavy traffic in the area, it's in the construction zone, they're doing grinding and epaing work. at least one lane closed. and then the typical heavy traffic on the westbound side out of tracey.
