fairfield, 10:00 and san francisco will still be under some clouds and by lunchtime in the afternoon, the clouds will retreat and san jose warming up in the low to mid-80s and we'll see some of the warmest temperatures in the inland areas and low 90s there. this evening should be nice and clear and grab a jacket, specially near the coast where the sea breeze will keep things cool, but inland will be a little mild tonight and we have a bigger cooldown on the way, kate, and i'll tell you about that with the accuweather seven-day forecast. we do have developing news out of the east bay this morning. police in richmond are investigating some sort of incident involving multiple cars. it happened last night around 10:00 on 13thanee sel evidenc mthe ground as officers investigate the scene. we do have calls into the police department to try and find out all of the details. a mechanic who stole an empty alaska airlines jet is dead after the plane crashed. video shows the large turboprop

plane doing stunts. officials say a horizon airline ground employee who was suicidal stole the plane, norad had to respond with f-15 fighter jets. the plane started to nosedive right there and then crashed off of an island just off pugit sound. officials believed the pilot was the only one who died in the crash. the horizon airlines coo shared this statement. >> we believe it was taken by a single horizon air employee and that no other passengers or crew were onboard. shortly thereafter it crashed near ketron island by south tacoma. our hearts are with the family of the individual aboard as well as all our alaska air and horizon air officials say the pa 29-year-old man from pierce county, washington. nobody else was involved. developing news in solano county. firefighters continue battling the nelson fire. it just before 5:00 near

fairfield. 1,000 acres have burned and it is now 70% contained and abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard has more. >> a wall of flames raced down a hillside surrounding homes in the gold ridge neighborhood of fairfield. firefighters made a stand, confronting the fire before it crossed hancock drive. >> all my sprinklers are on, front and back. i did everything that i could do. >> homeownerelis dozier got his family to safety when mandatory evacuation orders came down. >> everybody is out and everybody is gone. the fire is not too far from us now. >> you're nstaying. >> yes, i am. this is my house. this is their future. >> one rancher moving his cattle to a safer location as flames marched down the hill upon earlier, our cameras captured the fire moments after it started, off interstate 80. within minutes it was fully

engulfed headed towards homes in paradise valley. police telling neighbors to go. >> they came in the house and told uso t o. >> fire lines and they protected homes from flames. >> they told us we this to evacuate. it's been an experience. this is our retirement home. i can't afford to have it burn. >> fairfield high school became an evacuation shelter. residents of paradise valley retirement community making the best of a scary time. >> we were just sitting down to have dinner and then they told us to evacuate and then we just sat in the auditorium down there until they told us to come here. >> not far away, flames from this ferocious grass fire was still on the move. it is still unknown if it was on the move. one neighborhood was also under evacuation orders and it is still unknown how this fire started. in fairfield, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. >> all right, thanks, cornell. and now to the mendocino complex

fire which has burned more than 325,00067% and cal fire expects full containment by september 1st. the fire has now destroyed 119 homes. two firefighters have been injured and some mandatory evacuations do remain in place. the fire started two weeks ago and is now the largest wildfire in california history. now to a tragedy that claimed two lives including that of a chp officer. 46-year-old officer kurt griess was killed during a traffic stop on interstate 80 in fairfield yesterday. abc 7 news anchor eric thomas has it. >> motorcycles led the van carrying the body of a fallen chp officer from the hospital to the solano county coroner's office. curbing griess, a former marine spent 19 years with the highway patrol and 16 working out of the fairfield office. today is a tough day. it's a tough day for the frantic calls about an accident

on the shoulder of interstate 80 at manuel campos parkway. wnd passerby, a motorcycle involved, possibly a chp motor officer that was hit by a vehicle while he was on a traffic stop. >> indeed, griess had pulled over the driver of a saturn and moments later, disaster. >> for some reason the driver of the three-quarter ton pickup left the main portion of the roadway and traveled on to the shoulder and struck officer griess. >> cpr in progress on chp officer at this time. >> copy. >> he and the driver of the vehicle he pulled over were both rushed to nearby medical center where both were pronounced dead. chp officers andorceme co condolences to his family. >> he loved what he did and he loved being a chp motorcycle

officer and he'll be dearly missed. >> the second victim is described as a 49-year-old man from vallejo. officer griess was said to be very active in his community in the schools and he leaves behind a wife and three children. in fairfield, eric thomas, abc 7 news. >> so sad. you can show your support for officer griess through this facebook page that we have created. just go to the abc 7 facebook page and you can share it that way. new this morning, community groups hoping a proposed plan in one san francisco neighborhood will help employ tens of thousands of local residents. the central soma plan would create about 8,000 more homes and more than 33,000 jobs over the next 20 years. those jobs include security guards, custodians, engineers and programmers. the board of supervisors will discuss the proposal next month when it return from summer recess. happening today, the public can get a first look inside the

will have to bow down to president trump. >> tara palmery, abc news, washington. now an accuweather update, from abc 7 moshings. >> good morning i'm meteorologist frances dinglasan and they've shown some of the coastal clouds moving into the bay. it was much clearer this morning and it will quickly pull back. let me show you what's going on upstairs and this is post tropical storm john and it will kick up high clouds over the next couple of days and we'll also have this trough of low pressure that will increase the onshore flow and so temperatures will be coming down in the interior areas. it's also giving us some gusty conditions and parts of northern california which is why a red flag warning is in effect until 11:00 tonight. this is for the lake county and surrounding areas including the redding and the carr fire. humidity will drop 10% to 20% this afternoon. check out this live shot in san rafael where we have blue, clear

skies. air quality much improved this weekend and in fact, it will be good from the north bay down to the santa clara valley for both saturday and sunday. so great-looking weekend ahead. here is a live shot from sutro as we look at the low clouds and fog making its way past the golden gate bridge and you notice it's not too much of a thick layer and that will pull back very quickly. in san francisco, it's 39 degree and the oakland, san jose, already at 67 and half moon bay where it's cool where it's cloudier at 55 degrees and out toward the bay bridge in san francisco and you see the low clouds in the sutro tower and in santa rosa, lots of 60s through napa and novato and concord even at 74 degrees right now and livermore at 68 degrees and i'll show you the latest forecast animation which shows some cloud cover during the 9:00 hour and still along parts of the coast there just south of san

francisco and notice, these are the high clouds passing through from post tropical storm john, but look at this, tonight will be clearer so we've got some clear conditions. it will be cool and breezy out there, though, today. so grab a jack fed you're heading outside tonight if you have evening plans. 60s at the coast to low 90s inland. cooler for inland locations and at the coast, pretty steady. so the sea breeze will pick up this afternoon and san francisco, 65 degrees and san rafael, 82 and napa 84, even though we have good air quality, we'll still see hazy skies especially the closer you are to the mendocino counties especially one in the solano county area and through parts of interior valleys and we'll see low 90s through concord, antioch and sano jose 83 degrees and palo alto, 77. also if you're headed to outside lands we'll see brighter skies and only warming up into the lo6

charlie bring so much joy to these girls and boys. you wouldn't know it to look at their smiling faces, but they live with debilitating disorders that affect their immune systems including arthritis. the arthritis foundation statistics are shocking. the disorders affect nearly 300,000 children under the age of 16 in the united states and. >> i had mine since i was 2. >> what is it look to have an auto immune disease? >> sometimes it's hard because not a lot of yours rss yo when we come to this camp they have a lot of issues and it's really fun. >> i jumped off a swing set and i sprained my knee and it kept hurting and then they realized it was more than an injury. >> sometimes when you're sick your joints attack themselves and it makes it hard

hurts. i used to have it in my ankles and now i have knees, my fingers and my back. >> i have juvenile arthritis which is like kind of something in the joint which it can swell up sometimes and i have it in my knees and my ankles. >> what do you have to do to manage your condition? i take weekly shots which i'm taking enbrel right now. ♪ ♪ the kids don't let their health problems stop them when it comes to camp activities. they are here with camp milagros which has been here for 17 years and some of those original campers are now back as junior counselors. >> it's really nice to be able to connect with the kids because i've been in their -- in their o go to school and have to explain to teachers that you're suffering from a chronic illness. >> i remember my second year at camp milagros before they found a medication that worked my foot was super swollen and i had to be piggybacked around camp and

now i'm you have moving with the kids and stuff and i wouldn't be in this position if it weren't for the help of the doctors. >> camp milagros always has a medical team at camp who volunteer their time, including a pediatric rheumatologist with lucille packard children's hospital stanford. they have many medications, sometimes injections and they aren't comfortable or parents aren't comfortable sending their kids to a camp where they might not have oversight. >> i use it as an opportunity to remind them they are just regular kids and they're just a small piece of their pie and that they can do anything and everything other kids do. >> the camp is free and provided by the taylor family foundation which was founded by elaine tylor to help children with life-threatening and life-altering conditions and the foundation can use help all year round. >> donations, cash donations because that's how we fund the programs. but beyond that, there are in-kind donations so there can

despite so many other fires it's clear in most parts of the righ. we will have good air quality and there will be lingering haze in parts of the north bay especially the closer you are to the mendocino complex fires. here's a look at live doppler 7 and the satellite image. the clouds have moved in, but it will quickly clear. here is a live shot from the sutro tower, here's your 12-hour day planner which you can always download by searching the accuweather app. we have coastal clouds to deal with, but by this afternoon it will be breezy and the clouds will clear and we'll see high clouds passing through and much-improved air quality, slightly cooler temperatures inland and only in the low 90s today. around the bay, upper 7 ons and up the coast, the sea breeze will keep things cool. sun sets at 8:07 so grab a jack fed you're headed outdoors because things will cool down quickly and even more in the accuweather forecast coming up.

kate? >> looks good, france, thank you. developing news out of solano county this morning. fire crews, woed through the night to contain a fast-moving fire burning through fairfield and they are making progress. the fire is now 70% contained and the fire broke out just before 5:00 p.m. on cherry glen road near interstate 80. the good news is as of midnight all evacuation orders were lifted. at least one structure was lot of in the fire and the fire burned about 1,000 acres. down to southern california, the holy fire in the cleveland national forest is exploding in size. it is now more than 19,000 acres and just 10% contained. crews are rushing to keep it from reaching neighborhoods near lake elsinore. yesterday, take a look. the man accused of starting the fire made his first court appearance. after refusing to come out of his cell on thursday, forrest gordon clark stood before a judge in a bizarre appearance that included several outbursts. >> arson, aggravated arson --

>> it's a lie! >> criminal threats. these are just allegations, sir. >> correct.>>e is facing six fe accounts in total and his bail is set at $1 million. progress is being made on the ferguson fire which is allowing the national park service to re-open yosemite val owe tuesday. all main roads into yosemite including highway 140 will be open as well except highway 41 at the southern end of the park. 41 will remain closed from warona to the valley floor for at least another week. >> a san francisco jury has awarded a terminally ill bay area man $289 million from monsanto. that's the company that makes the weed killer round up. arma dates explains the landmar decision that pacts hundredof s country. >> dewneohon became overwhelmed with emotion after the jury made its decision. >> am glad to be here to help

with this decision after i learned about round up and glyphosate. >> he regularly used glyphosate-based round up while working as a groundskeeper for the benicia school district. after three and a half years he was diagnosed with non-hodgkin's lymphoma. >> did you find by clear and convincing evidence that monsanto acted with malice and oppression? answer, yes. >> hundreds of lawsuits targeting round up will now proceed to trial. >> you did something wrong and now you have to pay, and i cannot say how important this case is. >> monsanto vowed to fight the ruling. >> we will appeal. this is the beginning, obviously, of a very, very long process, but as i said at the start, the verdict has not changed the science. >> johnson hopes it will bring more attention to the possible dangers of glyphosate. >> the cause is way bigger than me. >> ama date, abc 7 news. the world health organization classifies

glyphosate as probably carcinogenic. the cpa ruled it as possibly not carcinogenic. >> a judge has rejected the deal for the two ghost ship fire defendants, derick almena and alex hairs had to account for the 36 people killed in the fire. almena's appeared to play the largest role in the decision which was brokered by a previous judge. a witness statement he made while in jail is still problematic for him. >> he playoffs jectiwas project others which this court doesn't appreciate. he want, you know, total apology. it seems to be the case that one of these defendants just did not show adequate remorse especially in his previous written statement. >> both defendants could reach separate deals with prosecutors or go to trial. the next court date is this friday and we've been covering the ghost ship fire since it happened in december 2016.

allowed to post pages if they don't have the authorization process and they uncovered new efforts to meddle with u.s. politics ahead of the midterm elections. medical services are about to expand dramatically in san francisco's mission district. sutter health is about to open its new addition to st. luke's hospital which will be named the mission bernal campus later this month. the upgraded facility include private maternity rooms with great bathtubs as well as high-tech innovations throughout huge jump in available emergency room beds for patients in and around the mission. >> we're a community hospital and we have a very busy emergency department. our emergency department at this campus has 16 bays. it's about four times the size of our current emergency department, the community is going to absolutely love it. >> the hospital says it expects to coordinate with zuckerberg's san francisco enrgeneral to han the er overloads on busy days and it is getting ready to open

so a professional new york racer and covergirl model from the north bay is putting those pursuits to help people and animals near the mendocino complex fire. here she is, shelina moreda started during last year's fires. the organization developed a system to help get animals out of the fire zones. we know there have been so many in these fires. so far during the mendocino complex fires, they've been able to rescue 100 animals. >> we pulled a dog out of the fires that had been burned. his whole bod he singe marcos it, his nose was burned and his paw, the pads had them coming off of them. when you see things like that you have to step up and help your neighbor out and it's what everybody is supposed to be doing and i don't think people do it enough. >> moreda has been working on three hours of sleep to help these people and animals.

already at this hour and i want to show you the last six hours and what's been going on with the satellite image because we have a couple of factors influencing our weather. we have the post tropical storm john. this will kick up some high clouds over the next couple of days and we also have this trough of low pressure approaching to the north of us and that's going to increase the sea breeze and that's going to drop temperatures a little bit. >> they also a red flag warning in effect because of the gusty conditions up to 30 miles per hour and this is for the lake county area for the mendocino cmplex fires and gusts up to 30 and relative humidity will come down 10% to 20%, but that expires tonight at 11:00. enjoy this beautiful view as we look out toward the bay and glittering water and air quality has improved and in fact, from the bay area and air quality management district. we're expecting good air quality from the north bay all of the way to santa clara valley today and tomorrow. we'll still see haze from the mendocino complex fire, but air

quality should be good. we're looking at sutro that will cool things down just a little bit for us and it helps improve the air quality. in san francisco it's currently 49 degrees, and san joss e 67. half moon bay cooler, and cloudy at the coast and 55 degrees right now. from the east bay we're looking at san francisco and the low clouds along the coast. there are more temperatures for you. lots of 60s out there through santa rosa and concord already up to 74 degrees and livermore currently 68 degrees. our latest forecast animation shows much less cloud cover for today. in fact, during the 9:00 hour, just some clouds along the coast and then you'll see a pullback pretty quickly and then tonight we'll see lots of clear skies. there are the passing high clouds and we'll see that through the afternoon and clearer tonight. so if you are heading out and you have dinner plan, grab a jacket because when we have clear skies things cool down much more quickly overnight.
