and greyhound buses will use the new sales force transit center. they've been waiting years to move in and they're not the only ones who can't wait. >> cornell bernard joins us live after battling the crowds at today's public party. >> reporter: deon and eric, i wasn't the only one wanting to look inside the new sales force transit center. the crowds were massive today for this preview event. there were even concerns about overcrowding here. police turned some people away, limiting access to the new sales force transit center's public open house after huge crowds showed up. the doors opened at 11:00 a.m., and by noon this was what we saw. a sea of curious spectators wanting to get new center. >> connects sf to the bay. there's been a lot of investment, this is a big deal, i'm impressed. >> reporter: the $2.26 billion transit center is impressive. 1 million square feet. four levels above ground

connecting commuters with the bay area. a commute game changer for lisa. >> i don't live super close to bart in oakland, so there's a lot of transbay buses closer to my house. i'll probably choose to use that. >> this is going to work for you? >> yeah. >> reporter: folks were grabbing pictures on the center's cable stay bridge which will allow transit buss to fly over downtown's traffic snarls. >> people are going to cross over six busy streets of photographic during congested hours and never touch a city street if they come from the east bay on ac transit. >> reporter: the crown jewel might be the five-acre rooftop park, a place to hang out and take in the skyline vazg. hub. it's a place where people can gather. and it's been a great day so far. >> talk about letting the sun shine in. one of the coolest features is the steel oculus. a giant skylight which brings sunshine and light four stories

find your bus and what else is open on the center on the abc 7 news app. a three-alarm fire in daly city had people worried enough to evacuate. abc 7 news was on sylvan street where smoke rose from one building at about 4:00 this afternoon. neighbors you see filled the street, watching firefighters go to work. the fire was contained and there are no reports of injuries. now to the latest on our california wildfires. we'll start with the one burning closest to the bay area. the so-called nelson fire triggered evacuations in fairfield yesterday. that fire sparked along i-80 in the afternoon and grew quickly to 1,000 acres. one home did burn down. the fire is now 65% contained and forward progress has been stopped. a drone is giving us a new view of the devastation in redding from the carr fire. it's become one of the most destructive wildfires in california history, wiping out more than 1,000 homes. containment is at 55%, but firefighters are worried because there's a red flag warning until 11:00 p.m.

drew tuma has new details. >> in redding today it was hot, a high of 102 earlier this afternoon. and it remains breezy with low humidity. so it's for that fact we have that red flag warning in effect. not only around redding but as far south as lake county. we have the south-southwest gusts 20 to 30 mires at times. humidity very low. under those conditions, fires can easily start and spread. air quality still an issue to our east. in the central valley you can see all that area shaded in gray is an air quality alert, smoke from nearby fires continuing to pour into the valley. it has not been able to move out. so that air quality alert will stay in effect for many days. the reason why our air quality is decent here locally, look at those winds onshore bringing in fresh air across the region. in fact for the second half of the weekend on sunday, no matter where you live in the bay area

because of higher fire containment, you're looking at very good air quality the next 24 hours. cooler air is moving in as well the next 24 hours. we'll have those numbers and the full accuweather forecast in a few minutes. the largest wildfire in state history, the mendocino complex, burned over 325,000 acres and is now 67% contained. near yosemite, the ferguson fire is 82% contained and less than 100,000 acres. yosemite valley is going to reopen to visitors on tuesday. southern california, the so-called holy fire is 29% contained. but firefighters think they can contain it fully by wednesday. almost 22,000 acres are burned. this fire was started by arson. the suspect, forrest gordon clark, made a bizarre first appearance before a judge yesterday acting so strangely that his arraignment was postponed for a week. in developing news now, we learned a construction worker has died after getting hit by a steel beam in san francisco.

abc 7 news was at the west portal muni station following yesterday's tragedy inside the twin peaks tunnel. the mayor's office says construction on the project has stopped while cal osha and san francisco police investigate what happened. some vacaville streets were shut down this morning while several law enforcement agencies escorted the body of chp moik officer kirk grist to vaca hills chapel funeral home. the 46-year-old 19-year chp veteran was killed in fairfield when a pickup truck veered off the road hitting him and the car he'd pulled over on i-80. "the vacaville reporter" posted video of today's procession on its facebook page. a memorial fund has been set up for the officer through the chp's credit union. head to abc7news.com for a link to donate. if you have the abc news app, you got this push alert. dead birds, mosquito test positive for west nile virus in discovery bay area. the virus has been found in two dead birds and in several mosquitos.

island today. officials believe baggage handler richard russell died last night. russell worked at horizon over three years and had clearance to be around planes. alaska airlines owns horizon and the ceo pledged to prevent similar incidents. >> we pride ourselves in being a leader in safety, and we will be a leader on this issue. so we will be looking at it. but we're less than 24 hours after the incident. it's far too early to say what additional procedures we might implement. >> people on the ground captured video of the plane flying above them, while military jets chased it moments before last night's fiery crash. three people have been arrested in charlottesville, virginia, as the city remembers the violent and deadly events from last year. demonstrators today marched through the downtown area remembering heather heyer, killed during a violent clash between protesters in what was billed as a unite the right rally.

have in our night sky all year. it looks to be clear overnight tonight, even close to the coast. good news there. right now temperatures 64 in san francisco. we're just a degree shy of 75 in oakland. 80 in san jose. 95 in brentwood. santa rosa, napa, it's warm, mid 80s at this hour. overnight tonight, here's the call. we'll have patchy fog mainly after midnight along the coast. fog will not be widespread. that marine layer is very compressed the next 12 hours. a lot of us will have clear skies, perfect for viewing that meteor shower. winds tomorrow morning light across the region. you get that daytime heating that mixes up the atmosphere. winds become more active. so tomorrow once again very similar to how we are right now. we expect those winds onshore about 10 to 25 miles an hour. so your 12-hour day planner for your sunday, you can sunup 6:22 a.m. sunshine midday. in the afternoon winds pick up. a lot of outdoor activities

turning hot again inland once again. baseball's all-time home run king is being immortalized by the giants. they are retiring barry bonds' number 25. the ceremony taking place moments ago at at&t park before tonight's game. bonds played 22 major league seasons, 15 with the giants. he retired in 2007. he holds too many records to name. he slams 762 career home runs, including 73 in a single season. he will go down as one of the greatest baseball players of all-time. >> number 25 has meant a lot to me throughout my career. and is even more special that i got to share that number with my dad. >> i didn't know that he would be as good as he is now. but when they said to me, he can hit a ball further than you, i said, uh-uh, i don't think so.

i said, i don't think so. >> that is great. tiger woods in the hunt at a major, has the golf world buzzing. tiger trying to chase down his first major championship in 10 years. third round of the pga championship. we will start with the shot of the day. par 3 16 from matt wallace. 232 yards, in the hole for an ace. that is a hole in one. he is tied for 21st at 5 under. brooks koepka was 5 under on the front nine. looked like he was going to run away with this. sets up an easy birdie. tiger was 4 under on the front nine. this is one he'll remember. three-putting for par on 17. he's 8 under, four back of the lead. yesterday's leader, gary woodland, was 1 over. he's still tied for third thanks to the birdie on 14. adam scott shot the low round of the day. 5 under. he's alone in second at 10 under par after the birdie on 17. koepka with bogeys on 14 and 15, but saves par here on 16. he then birdied 17.

he is your leader at 12 under par, finishing the day 4 under for the round. scott is in second. jon rahm, ricky fourler, and woodland in third place. tiger woods is in the hunt, he is in a tie for sixth. there are ten players within four shots of the lead. just win, baby. that's what the raiders did in their opener against the lions. head coach jon gruden is not exactly celebrating. the raiders beat the lions 16-10 last night. it was gruden's first game back on an nfl sideline as a head coach in ten years. raiders made big plays but also mistakes. for example marshawn lynch breaking free from apparent 60-yard touchdown run, but it was called back because of a penalty. holding. >> you know, you can't win in this league in the regular season and make mistakes like that. but there were some good moments. the guys played well tonight. >> goes out there, breaks the plate for 65, 70 yards. i think that definitely makes

you -- makes everybody else get their adrenaline pumped up, they're ready to go play. shoot, he was excited about it. he came off, he was talking about how we need to go out there and do better than that. the 49ers also won their preseason but it came with a price. niners beat the cowboys 24-1 on a seven-yard touchdown pass from nick mullins to ritchie james with under 20 seconds to play on thursday night. a number of 49ers were banged up in the game. linebacker malcolm smith hurt his hamstring. solomon thomas left the game after hitting his head on the ground. unfortunately injury is are a big part of preseason. >> that's what scares you about training camp, that's what scares you about the preseason. you kind of want the game to end when those things start happening. you want those guys when the season starts. we also need to practice and get better. it's something that you've got to deal with, it's part of this business.
