the fry way at 98th avenue. no estimated time when the lanes will reopen. officers are investigating the crash as a possible dui. a pilot and his passenger are safe this morning after landing on an east bay highway bringing traffic to a stand still. this is new dash cam video showing the plane landing on interstate 580 in unincorporated san leandro last night. the plane was supposed to land at the hayward executive airport. >> reporter: here's something you don't see everybody day, a plane on the highway. >> this is crazy to see something like this. its just unbelievable. lshe you see a plane land on the freeway like this incredible. >> at 6:46 saturday afternoon, a man and woman who was his passenger made an emergency landing just before the 154th

avenue exit. the pilot told the chp the fuel line snapped and caused the plane to lose pressure. >> it was like boom. like a car was going out of gas or something. then it hit the ground. and all i could do is just run and scream and say a plane is on our freeway. >> chp says he has never seen anything like it. the agency released this aerial footage the aircraft near the right lane. >> not every day. first of my career. i've seen it throughout the state. first i know in the bay area. >> the two inside the plane walked away without any injuries and no one was hurt. there was also no damage to surrounding structures including the freeway or the plane. but, of course, the saturday evening commute was snarled as crews worked to remove the air kr craft from the state. >> you can have all the traffic in the world just as long as nobody gets hurt. >> the investigation into exactly what forced that emergency landing is still

underway. just a miracle that everyone walked away without a scratch. abc 7 news. we want to update you very quickly on our breaking news at the top of the hour. the lanes that have been shut down on northbound 880 because of a car crash that left someone dead, all lanes had had been closed. the chp is just reporting that all northbound lanes on 880 have reopened. this crash was near the oakland coliseum. developing news on the theft of a plane at seattle's airport. we're hearing from the baggage hand willer's family who say they are in shock at what he did. investigators say richard russell is the horizon air employee who stole the aircraft and later crashed it killing himself. one of his friends read a statement from the family. that statement says, "bebo, russell's nickname, was warm,

kind, and gentle." >> we are devastated by these events and jesus is truly the only one holding this family together right now. without him, we would be hopeless. as the voice recordings show, his intent was not to harm anyone. he was right in saying that there are so many people who have loved him. >> federal investigators are now in seattle trying to determine how russell gained access to that plane. experts say the industry will likely prompt a major review of industry security measures. united airlines is apologizing to passengers for flight delays it blames on a problem with one of its computer systems. abc 7 news was inside terminal three at san francisco international airport yesterday where passengers were waiting for word on when their flights would leave. some delays were several hours long. sfo happens to be a major hub for united.

the airline says a foation il b issue. work is resuming on the twin peaks tunnel project following the death of a kroucticonstruct worker. abc news was there shortly after a steel beam fell on a worker inside the tunnel on friday. officials immediately shut down the job site. paramedics rushed the man to zuckerberg general hospital where he died. he was a signal technician for an oakland based company. both san francisco police and cal osha are investigating the accidents. the tunnel is undergoing major upgrade work since june. today ma y violent clash during a white nationalist rally that left a woman dead. heather hire is her name. and she died last year in charlottesville, virginia. security is tight. police on high alert in

preparation for rallies there and in washington, d.c. abc news reporter ty hernandez has the detailed. >> reporter: tight security in virginia on saturday, police arresting at least three people. the goner declaring a state of emergency hoping to avoid a repeat of last year when protests turned deadly. police blocking off streets, mobilizing hundreds of officers preparing for sunday's event. jason kessler, one of the organizers of last year's unite the right event, says he is not a racist, calling himself a civil rights advocate for white people. >> white people are about to become a minority in both the united states and in europe. i think we're facing epidemic levels of anti-white discrimination. >> reporter: this year the unite the right 2 rally will be held in lafayette park in front of the white house on sunday. president trump criticized for his response to the violence last year tweeting, "the riots in charlottesville last year

resulted in senseless death. i condemn all types of racism and acts of violence. peace to all americans." an anti-facist group quietly marrh charlottesville saturday afternoon paying tribute to heather hire, the 32-year-old woman killed when a man drove his car into a crowd during last year's protest. the group leaving messages at the site of her death, heather's mother also there to honor her daughter. >> we're trying to make the world a better place and either get onboard or get out of the way. >> reporter: on sunday, she will stand with many of the people who marched with her daughter last year. ty hernandez, abc news, new york. a bay area lawmaker is eyeing a possible run for the white house in 2020. eric swalwell was in iowa yesterday addressing voters. he calls president trump a wrecking ball and urged the crowd to support democrats. this is the tenth time he's been in iowa since president trump took office. he told cnn reporter jake tapper

cornell bernard has a look. >> police turned some people away, limiting access to the new sales force transit center public open house. after huge crowds showed up. this was what we saw. a sea of curious spectators wanting to get their first look at the new center. >> it connects sf to the bay. i can tell there is a lot of investment. this is a big deal. >> reporter: the $2.26 billion transit center is impressive, one million square feet, four levels above ground connecting commuters with a bay area. a commute game changer for lisa. >> i don't live super close to bart. so there are a lot of bus that's go closer to my house. i'll choose to use that now. >> so this is going to work for you? >> yeah. >> reporter: folks were grabbing pictures on the center's cable bridge which will allow transit buses to fly over the snarls. >> they're going to go over the traffic during congested hours and they'll never touch the street. >> reporter: the five acre roof

we have some low clouds along the coast from san francisco down towards santa crews. a lot of clear skies out there. the wind is blowing and sea breeze picking up. and that's going to bring us good air qualit once again to date. it's going to be good from north bay all the way around the bay area to the santa clara valley. higher containment on fires and on shore breeze. you can see with the flags blowing, that on shore breeze is going to cool temperatures down a little bit by a couple degrees. here's a live shot now. we're looking out towards san francisco. there is the trans america tower. we see some of the low clouds and also clear skies over parts of the bay area. san francisco is currently 57, oakland 56. mountain view, 61. san jose, 62. morgan hill, 63 right now. and this time from the east bay hills, we can see those low clouds near the tower. but it is clear over the bay. so more temperatures for you in the 50s and 60s. santa rosa is a cooler spot at 53 degrees.

fairfield, 61. concord, 64 degrees already and that's where we'll see things warm up into the 90s. forecast animation shows some clouds along the coast during the next hour. and then it goes south. we'll see high clouds passing through as well this afternoon and this evening. this is from post tropical storm john and then watch as the clouds fill in again overnight to tomorrow morning. so if you want to see the meteor showers, you'll want to stay away from the coast as well. highs to day range from 60s to 90. partly cloudy conditions at the beaches. half moon bay, 64 degrees. san francisco, 67. oakland, warming up to 73. and nice weather in the south bay. 86 degrees for you there. we'll see some low 90s in the inland areas. that's when we'll see some hazy skies also in parts of the north bay. now if you are heading to outside lands, a little more cloud cover today. yesterday was sunny and gorgeous. today, few more clouds. slightly cooler weather. and definitely have a jacket.

it is going to get chilly down to 55 degrees if you're staying to watch the janet jackson concert. here's a look at your forecast for the giants game. so different story. the other side of san francisco. the closer you are to the bay, the more sunshine there is. that's where things warm up to 67 degrees this afternoon. so have your sun glass it's you're headed to the giants game. here's the seven day forecast. breezy afternoon. still hitting the low 90s inland. and around the bay, upper 70s at the coast. low 60s. temperatures continue to drop towards the middle of the week. on shore flow increases. that again also brings us better air quality. and then we start to warm back up again as high pressure builds inland getting hot by next weekend. >> all right. i'd love to go see miss jackson. >> yes! i'm going to actually try to see i. >> thank you, frances. cal fire wants to remind everyone to have a plan for all your pets in case of emergency.

that reminder along with a couple of photos was posted on cal fire's facebook page. this is grant the gold fish. a cal fire crew along with corning police department officers fed the little guy while his family was evacuated because of the car fire. engine 1489 left this note which reads, fed your fish a few sprinkles. sorry if we were not supposed to. i'm sure the family was grateful. the officers also signed and dated it with good luck. santa claira has grown, few think of it as cowboy country but an event is celebrating the area's love of rodeos. the gillroy rodeo was last held in 1956. david louie shows us why we're >> reporter: six straight months of work to get this facility ready. the rodeo is back after a 62-year absence thanks to eric martin who runs major

next month, climate experts will descend on the bay area for the global action climate summit. right now visitors to san francisco's exploratorium can get a jump on the summit with our special exhibit that includes a tour of a high-tech research ship. here's abc 7 news anchor dan ashley. >> reporter: for much of the year, the research ship sailed the high seas for noa.

[ beep ] looping and rolling, pursued fighter jets providing proving this was no ordinary air show. that plane stolen, surprising controllers when it barged on to the runway. >> reporter: at the controls, 29-year-old richard russell, a horizon airline baggage handler. he passed background checks and worked for horizon for 3 1/2 years, even posting about his job on youtube. >> i'm a ground service agent. that mean i lift a lot of bags. >> reporter: fighters scramble

from portland flying faster than the speed of sound. intercepting russell south of seattle. they are prepared to shoot him down as controllers try to talk him down. >> listen, let's try to land that airplane safely and not hurt anybody on the ground. >> i don't know, man. i don't want to. i was kind of hoping that was going to be it. >> 75 minutes after takeoff, the plane crashes into a small island. russell is killed. >> i have a lot of people that care about me. it's going to disappoint them that i did this. i would like to apologize to each and every one of them. >> reporter: commercial air airplanes don't have door locks or ignition keys. they can be easily started using a checklist. there are questions about how russell was able to learn just enough to get that plane off the ground and why. the pierce county sheriff described russell as suicidal. the fbi says this does not appear to be terrorist but it is a big red flag for aviation security. however, the airline says it's still too early to talk about

i would have a tendency to keep the original name just for historical purposes. >> reporter: banners proclaiming the east cut pay hommage to history mentioning the gold rush and old coffee manufacturers in the neighborhood. >> a name is a name. as long as it's not offensive, i'm fine with that. >> they allow the residents around here to vote on it or how did they decide? >> reporter: actually, a community benefit district made up of 4500 property owners, business, and residential came up with the name. andrew robinson is executive director. >> the city doesn't get involved in of neighborhoods but they are organic and come from the community. >> on the website, the east cut is described as one of san francisco's most forward thinking and hospitable neighborhoods. but here's the question -- what does east cut mean? >> i don't really know. >> historic reference to the second street cut which was a leveling of what then was the highest point of rancon hill to allow goods and services to move
