omarosa says, when she was called into a closed door meeting with the chief of staff, she knew it was about something very serious. she went in prepared to record the conversation she says for her protection. >> reporter: omarosa manigault newman adamant she quit her job at the white house -- >> i resigned. >> reporter: is now claiming she was fired. she has proof she was threatened to stay quiet. >> it's important to understand if we make this a friendly departure we can all be -- look at your time at the white house as a year of service to the nation and then you can go on without any type of difficulty in the future relative to your reputation. >> it's very obvious a threat. >> reporter: during her appearance on "meet the press" omarosa said she secretly recorded chief of staff john kelly firing her in the situation room. >> i protected myself because this is a white house where

message to the white house yet again. fewer than 30 members took their call for civil rights to washington, d.c. the organizer tweeted overnight it was a solid success. this after being met by hundreds of angry demonstrators looking to end the spread of white suprema supremacy. >> reporter: one year after the deadly rally in charlottesville, virginia some of the people tried to organize the same protest in our nation's capital, just a few feet away from the white house. the unit the right rally organizer telling us his people were afraid to show up. the few that made it out were met by hundreds of counter protesters. >> not going to stand for hatred and fascism in the united states of america. >> reporter: law enforcement from multiple agencies trying to keep both sides separate. >> clearly america and washington, d.c. reject their

of domestic abuse as he faces a primary race tomorrow. keith ellison is accused of dragging his exgirlfriend off a bed while yelling obscenities. the woman and her son say there's a tape of the incident. ellison insists there's no tape because it never happened. he's the deputy chairman of the dnc. after six terms in congress, he's running for attorney general of minnesota. >> a republican running for the florida legislature has been accused of lying about being a college graduate and posting a fake diploma. she posted this diploma and then got a question questioning her background. miami of ohio said she attended their school, but never graduated and it's never even offered a marketing degree as printed on the diploma. >> she didn't have a degree. not only that, but the diploma she was holding was most likely a fake. there were great inconsistencies on it. which led the university to

>> reporter: government security experts tell us the system isn't designed to catch people like russell who appeared to have a clean record. were their mental health warning signs that family and colleagues mare have missed? clayton sandell seattle. a priest who survived a plane crash made his return to the altar. the reverend esequiel sanchez celebrated mass at his parish outside of chicago along with seven other crash survivors. father sanchez had suggested earlier that everyone's survival was miraculous. yesterday, he underscored it was the heroes among the survivors who were the real miracle. >> i, as well as other brothers and sisters, were in that crash. could have easily run away as fast as we could. but there were brothers and sisters inside the plane that as soon as they got out, they went back. to help others get out. >> the aeromexico plane went

down shortly after takeoff. 49 of the 103 passengers were injured, but everybody survived. there are new calls for the football coach of the university of maryland to be fired after he was put on leave. head coach d.j. dierken was suspended after the death of a player, jordan mcnair, collapsed during practice in june and died of heat stroke. it comes as current and former players described to espn what they called a toxic culture of fear and intimidation inside the school's football program. an attorney for mcnair's family says dierken should be fired and is considering a lawsuit. tiger woods turned back the clock during the pga championships, just not enough. tiger woods, the four-time tournament champion cut seven strokes off his deficit in the last day in st. louis. but it wasn't enough. brooks koepka won his second major of the year. and another rookie brought joy to chicago cubs fans. the cubs were down 3-0 to washington in the ninth.

it's blowing to 21 miles in fairfield right now. i'll have more coming up. how is the traffic looking? >> we are starting off with one issue this morning. let's head to the union city area. two-car crash on the northbound side of the nimitz. two vehicles involved like i mentioned. does sound like one person has injuries and the far right lane is blocked. emergency crews are on the scene. at one point we had all lanes blocked but they were able to open up most of the roadway. a quick check of golden gate bridge not looking terrible at the moment but chp has issued a dense fog advisory, so certainly could be low visibility in some areas and we could see this thicken up throughout the morning. happening now, residents in bay point warned this morning that a brush fire burning near north broadway could be hazardous to their health. it says the smoke could irritate the eyes, skin and nose or

throat. contra costa fire is monitoring the situation. breaking news in san jose, crews had to pull six people out of a minivan following a crash on southbound 101 near capital expressway just before 1:00 this morning. the chp says the van was rear ended and that's what caused it to land on its side. the fire department says it took 45 minutes to rescue all people in the van. three weeks were involved and two others had to go to the hospital and they are expected to survive. chp says one driver was taken into custody and the cause of the wreck is under investigation. happening now, the spectacular new salesforce transit center is in the firsts full day of service and the commute as well. >> the center stretches three blocks along south of market. it's bordered by mission and howard streets and second and beil. tens of thousands are expected to pass through every day. busses have started using it. ace transit workers snapped these photos when the first busses arrived at the transit
