today, cloud cover with a stronger onshore flow. sunrise at 6:23, we will see clearing and sunny skies except at the coast. temperatures will be cooler compared to yesterday so inland areas in the upper 80s around the bay, mid 70s and at the coast the sea breeze really keeps things cool, upper 50s throughout the day. alexis? >> good morning, francis. overall off to a quiet start this morning. taking a look at drive times, westbound 580, tracy to kv the one we can count on to be busy this early in the yellow at 44 minutes. highway 85 to the san jose airport looking great at 11 and northbound 280 between highway 1 and san francisco no issues getting into the city. just ten minutes for you. a live look outside, san jose, 101 and 880 inbound traffic coming towards us. light volume so we're off to a great start this monday morning. the family of the 18-year-old driver involved in a deadly crash over the weekend disputes the chp's assertion she was driving drunk.

>> two other 18-year-olds were killed in the sunday morning crash in walnut creek and abc 7 news reporter matt keller is in the newsroom with more. hi, matt. >> good morning, alexis. the teenage driver ramya ramey is facing dui and manslaughter. chp says she was driving on eastbound highway 24 around 4:00 a.m. when the car fell 40 to 50 feet off the connecter ramp to 680. there were five people in the car, all 18 years old, two men died. ramey and two women suffered major injuries. ramey is under arrest at john muir medical center and her family has been keeping a vigil there and says drinking and driving would be out of character. >> no toxicology reports have come back at this point, so we don't know what actually occurred. everyone right now just needs to be held in prayer. send up good thoughts. i can't begin to imagine the pain that those families are experiencing right now.

>> ramey just graduateded from deer valley high school set to attend the university of pacific. the names of the others have not been released. in the newsroom, matt keller, abc 7 news. federal investigators will send the black boxes from a stolen passenger plane to washington, d.c. they found the flight data recorder and part of the cockpit recorder in the plane's wreckage south of seattle yesterday. the devices should provide clues about what was going on inside the cockpit of the horizon air turboprop. 29-year-old richard russell stole the plane and flew it more than an hour, made wild loops before the plane crashed into an island. people who knew russell are stunned. >> you could tell he was in pain kind of seemed a little delusional and i was just shocked to see that someone who was so nice, so helpful, and caring actually, he cared about his job, to do such a thing. >> authorities are trying to

confirm if recovered human remains are russell. he was a grounds service worker for horizon air and didn't have a pilot's license. salvage crews are waiting for daybreak to free a fishing boat that ran aground in santa cruz. the pacific quest got stuck yesterday near natural bridges state park. the boat carrying about 1200 gallons of diesel. a salvage crew determined it was too hazardous to move the vehicle. they secured it and going to try to remove the fuel and salvage the boat. if you ride bart soon you will see more of the agency's fleet of the future trains. according to the san francisco examiner ten cars will be on the tracks in two weeks. bart may roll out five new cars per month throughout the end of the year. the examiner reports there will be a six-month delay in the delivery of the final order of train cars and are not expected to arrive until april of 2026 which seems a long time from now. the whole projects has cost more than $2.5 billion.

the city of santa clara which owns levi stadium has won a legal fight in its dispute with the 49ers over the team's rent. an arbitrator denied the 49ers requested to reduce their rent by $4.25 million. the team's rent will increase 262,000 to $24.7 million for each year it leases the stadium. the mayor says the decision will allow the city to pay down the stadium's debt more quickly fight shows that city of santa clara and the stadium authority is managing the 49ers instead being managed by them. we would hold them accountable to how they deal with the city. our citizens have allowed them to have their residence here in the city and they need to play fair. >> the 49ers told abc 7 news in a statement that the organization accepts the arbitrator's decision. happening today the state assembly is going to vote on a bill that with would require landlords to accept rent

payments from third parties. if the bill from a san francisco assemblyman passes it will go to the governor's desk. he says when tenants have trouble making rents sometimes the family member or a non-profit will pay. advocates say some landlords refuse the payments as a tactic to evict residents and raise rents. apartment associations are against this measure. developing business news this morning, bay area is taking a huge financial hit following a san francisco jury's $289 million verdict against monsanto which is owned by the drug giant. friday the jury ruled in favor of a former groundskeeper who said exposure to roundup weed killer caused his cancer. shares plunged 11% in trading in europe. bayer bought monsanto in june for $66 billion. the san francisco verdict opens the door for thousands of other claims involving roundup. new developments between north and south korea. the rival nations have agreed to

hold a third summit between their leaders by the end of next month. it's set to happen in the north korean capital of pyongyang. it comes following more high-level talks along the border. north korea's nuclear arsenal remains a hot topic and has been the source of tension following a summit between president trump and north korea's kim jong-un. you are never more than seven minutes away from the accuweather forecast. you're starting off with live doppler 7. much more extensive cloud cover over the bay area. we could see drizzle. i had to use my wipers a couple times this morning in san francisco. visibility is a bit limited the closer to the coast right now. it's three miles in half moon bay, five to six miles in santa rosa and petaluma. elsewhere not bad. temperatures right now are in the 50s and 60s. 55 in san francisco, hayward, mountain view at 61 and san jose. it's a little bit cooler as you step out the door this morning and that's what you can expect this afternoon as well. so highs coming down a little bit for everybody. in the inland areas, we're only

leasing any more tapes. live in new york, abc 7 news. california is projected to add 2 million jobs in the next decade with most of the growth in sectors that require college degrees. that's according to the california employment development department. a major exception is personal care aides which doesn't require a degree. the job could see nearly 40% growth. some jobs expected to shrink include parking enforcement workers and typists. the job of news reporter is expected to grow by 2.6%. >> it is? >> i know. that's a little surprising to me too. >> so the demise of our industry has been exaggerated. >> maybe. 2.6% growth coming up. >> yeah. two children whose dad has been deployed with the u.s. coast guard for the past year got a huge surprise at a baseball game. >> i can never get enough. 9-year-old sash sa and 6-year-old jonna was sashshah was chosen to play deal or no

a look at live doppler 7 and the satellite image. we have the fog and onshore flow pushing the clouds in. temperatures right now are mainly in the 50s, few 60s out there. concord already warming up to 63 degrees. san francisco currently 55 degrees and oakland is 59 degrees. and highs today, they're going to be a little bit cooler compared to yesterday because of the continued onshore flow. so look for 60s at the coast to upper 80s, possibly 90s out there through fairfield and warmer temperatures ukiah and laport will see hazy conditions, air quality good around the bay area. san francisco warming up to 64 degrees, oakland 69 degrees, and san jose will be warm at 83 degrees. we still could see high clouds passing through and that's all from post-tropical storm john. lows tonight will be in the 50s. we could see drizzle once again. a little bit more of a stronger push so unfortunately notice temperatures will continue to

francisco bay ferry. if you're up before 4:30, congratulations. you may have caught a glimpse of the perseid meteor shower. this is video from bosnia where stargazers checked things out. the perseid meteor was expected to be more spectacular than usual because there was minimal light pollution from the moon. more than 500 gathered at chabot hoping to see meteors. >> we thought about national parks or away from the city. this is a perfect places because i think we should have a good view of the stars. >> hopefully they did. the perseid meteor shower occurs when earth passes through the path of comet swift tuttle running into a stream of debris the comet leaves behind. early this morning was your chance but the perseid meteor shower runs until august 24th. little cloudy so i don't know if it was god view. >> fingers crossed they got to

minutes away from weather. back to school day for the oakland unified school district. when you wake the kids up around 8:00, cloudy, temperatures in the upper 50s and then sunshine this afternoon and then we'll be climbing into the 60s. 66 degrees by 3:00 this afternoon. reggie? >> take a look at this crazy videos. dozens of cars crashing into each other in a river. heavy weekend thunderstorms swept through new jersey causing the peckman river in little falls to flood. the rising waters washed away vehicles from a nearby car dealership and shooting range and right into the river. >> that's a mess. hundreds of runners and walkers probably nurse something aching muscles this morning from the oakland half marathon and 5k in oakland. obviously. >> yes. and we were there as people crossed the finish line right back where they started. runners and walkers said they were happy with the course and their finish times but surprised
