vehicle. from there, the patrol car collided with a parked semi-truck. >> the semi-truck was parked in the center of the roadway where they often stage coming into the port area, the impact and damage so great the officer was trapped inside his vehicle. snow the oakland police officers tried to attempt to get the door open to get the officer out. they were not able to. >> the oakland fire department extricated the officer from his vehicle. police say he was not conscious at the time. >> we have witnesses, we have the drivers. everybody stayed on scene and everybody was cooperating. the truck driver says he was sleeping inside the truck when the collision occurred. >> there was a fire truck here. the door was stuck.

>> reporter: middle harbor road remains closed as a thorough investigation was completed. later this afternoon, tow trucks removed the vehicles from the scene. police say the driver of the semi-truck you just heard from moments ago and the driver of the civilian vehicle are both okay. as for the report of that suspicious person, police say when officers arrived at the scene, their focus shifted to the hurt officer. live at oakland, abc7 news. thank you. we're learning more about the two teenagers killed in a suspected dui crash in walnut creek. they're identified as 17-year-old dakaai fagorala and 18-year-old john walizada. both graduated last year. two others were hurt in the sunday morning crash. police say rami was intoxicated but her family disputes that. she's under arrest for multiple

counts of felony manslaughter and dui. the man accused of being the golden gate killer has a new charge. they charged the 72-year-old with claude snelling's death trying to protect his daughter. >> notice joseph deangelo was working as a police officer in the city of ex-setter from 1973 to august of 1976. the period of time in which the cases were occur is in the city and at the time of the smelling homicide. >> deangelo is now in a sacramento county jail, accused of several murders across the state in the 1970s and '80s. launching a new tips website continuing to search for mollie tibbetts, she has been missing

nearly a month now. finding mollie.iowa.gov, they want to talk to anyone who may have seen her in these areas on july 18th. they're looking into all possibilities. >> it is possible mollie came into contact with someone who caused her harm. this person may not necessarily be a member of our community but likely have familiarity with the area. >> the reward to find mollie is more than $366,000. she grew up in the east bay before moving to iowa. slightly cooler temperatures are helping crews battling wildfires around the state. there are more than a dozen burning across california. the mendocino complex fires made up of the ranch and river fighters are at 59 and 93% containment respectively. the blazes have destroyed more than 100 homes and burned 525 square miles making it the

largest wildfire in state history. farther north, the car fire in shasta county is 61% contained. this is another massive blaze burning 203,000 acre, become one of the most destructive fires in our history, burning more than 1,000 homes and other structures near the city of redding. it has so far been linked to eight deaths. crews battling the holy fire are reporting excellent progress as well. containment, 52%, up considerably from saturday, just 10% contained. it burned more than 23,000 acres and 12 structures. it broke out a week ago today and at its height forced the evacuation of more than 20,000 people. to the ferguson fire 93% contained with 96,000 acres burned. it has subsided enough the national park service will open yosemite valley tomorrow. closed since the 25th. at the southern edge of the park

>> check out the flooding in the town of derby, pennsylvania, downpours caused flooding and two cars had to be rescued from a car stuck in the flooding. we are hearing from a man who captured incredible video in the east bay showing a small plane landing on the freeway. this is the emergency landing eric gear witnessed saturday. look at this plane coming down, near the 164th avenue exit in ashland. the pilot called the highway patrol the fuel line snapped and what caused the plane to lose pressure. >> it swooped down and hovered there for a little bit and found a clearing and dropped right down. he didn't hit-traffic, impressive maneuver. >> high on adrenaline at the time and hoping everybody would be okay. >> the two people inside, the pilot and passenger are both okay after this. no damage in fact was reported

at all. >> that's incredible. nearly two million workers in california may be impacted by a state supreme court ruling that could turn them into company employees instead of independent contractors. lobbying from employers against it and labor leaders for it. looking at the divisive >> reporter: many of these hauling trucks are independent contractors who pick the hauls and drive theirselves. ride share drivers and taxi share drivers and hairstylists and many others say the state supreme court take is a way their independence and could also hurt their income. >> i will make less income if i work for the company because the company will give me only eight hours. now, i can work four hours in the morning and four hour in the night time. >> reporter: the court decision sets new definitions for

independent contractors. the california chamber of commerce and coalition of employers are urging the state legislature to put a temporary hold on implementation on the court decision. >> reporter: the independent contractors are plan stating rally wednesday but some already meeting with the individual lawmakers. this is state senator jim bell of san jose. labor groups don't want legislators to intervene with the court's decision and argue it will help more than 2 million workers in california. >> they don't get minimum wage or overtime and social security. that changes with dyna mex. it's a blockbuster case because it changes the status of a large number of workers. >> reporter: there's no indication yet what sacramento lawmakers will do. in san jose, david louie, abc7 news. there's also the possibility of lawsuits that could take years to resolve. a new report suggests google is tracking your whereabouts,

beginning a push through the golden gate and the bay. we will see the fog expanding overnight. average temperatures with us tomorrow and warmer pattern developing after midweek. the forecast looks like this. starting at 7:00 this evening, you see the fog not only pushing out over the bay but well beyond and inland areas get a patch of fog overnight and high clouds over the bay area as well. when the morning commute gets under way, possible a few areas can see slightly reduced visibility because of the fog, overhead high clouds and later in the morning we see the fog pulling back slowly to the coastline by midday slow lingering inland and clouds over the coastline. pretty much the same range we have seen the last couple weeks. mid to upper 60s, mild to inland east bay, upper 50s and 60s as low. in the north bay valley, lows to

live where you live, abc7 news. >> the stories making headlines at 4:30, an oakland police officer is in critical condition after an early morning accident. the officer was responding to a suspicious person call near the city of oakland. his patrol car hit another car and slammed into a semi-truck. he is fairly new to the force and the son of a lieutenant. abc7 news tweeted the reward

to find a missing woman with bay area tie is growing. she disappeared almost a month ago while jogging in iowa. she grew up in this area and the reward has topped $300,000. president trump has signed the allocation act for increasing defense spending, $16 billion, the senate to approve it in june. the wreckage of a plane stolen in seattle and intentionally crashed nearby. security questions remain about how the ground crew employee was able to take it for a joyride. >> reporter: richard russell, who took that passenger jet from a seattle airport on a 75 minute joyride apparently had a clean record but officials are now wondering if there were mental health warning signs that were missed. >> are you sure he's not going to hit us? >> reporter: this was the frightening view of the sky

showing the passenger plane, which russell, a baggage handler stole from the seattle airport. >> i played video games before. i know what i'm doing a little bit. >> reporter: russell, who had no pilot's license and no known experience somehow knew how to take off and fly the plane. he had no ties to terrorism. he passed federal background checks, even extra security measures at that airport. >> we have gotten information all security protocols were handle appropriately at the airport. >> reporter: before his so-called joyride ended in a fiery crash, russell expressed remorse. >> just a broken guy, has a few screws loose, i guess. never really knew it until now. >> reporter: as investigators in seattle try to figure out how to keep this from happening again. authorities are investigating an apparently deliberate plane crash into this home.

47-year-old dwayne, a licensed pilot intentionally crashed into his own home. >> it's a ball of fire. it's hot. >> reporter: the crash happening hours after he was arrested and released on domestic violence charges. he died in the crash. his wife and a juvenile inside the home were able to escape without injuries. >> he is described as an experienced pilot. investigators are hoping what is recovered from the seattle plane will provide insight in how richard russell was able to steal an airplane at one of the nation's busiest airport. abc7 news, back to a florida man seen in a surveillance video shooting a man in another parking spot will face charges after all. state prosecutors issued an arrest warrant for michael
