investigators believe they have now found the bodies of all three. her husband confessing to killing them after hours after pleading for their return. abc's clayton sandell has the latest and you spoke with friends who said they never thought something like this was possible. >> reporter: and good morning, david. yeah, that's right. friends tell us that chris watts seemed like a devoted father and family man, but when his family went missing, they say he cried. never showed any emotion. that is behavior, they say they now recognize, as a major red flag. shackled and wearing an orange jumpsuit, chris watts listened as a judge read him his rights, uttering few words. just days earlier, watts was talking a lot more on tv, pleading for his missing family to come home. >> if you are out there, just come back. >> reporter: but on thursday, police believe they found the body of 34-year-old shanann daughts arby.o eum company >> say hi. >> hi.

>> reporter: shanann, 4-year-old bella, and 3-year-old celeste vanished monday. shanann was 15 weeks pregnant, missing a doctor's apartment. watts admitting that he and shanann had a disagreement earlier that day. >> we had an emotional conversation, but i'll leave it at that. >> i feel so stupid, like, we were duped by one of our good friends. >> reporter: nicholas and amanda were close friends of the watts', before chris' arrest. standing by his side, even opening their own home tuesday night. >> we feel so stupid about that now, like, trusting him to stay the night in the same house as our daughter. i mean, i'll never let that go. >> we thought we were doing the right thing by trying to be a good friend to him. >> reporter: later learning of chris' arrest, and according to denver 7 news, a report from two law enforcement sources about his apparent confession. do you feel betrayed? >> oh, my god. like, yeah, like -- >> at no time in the 48, 72 hours we were with him did he ever, ever show remorse. >> right?

>> he never once cried, which i guess is now a red flag. >> i know. he was worried with how this -- how he's being looked at. you know what i mean? he was worried with what people were saying. >> reporter: very concerned with how he was being perceived. >> yeah, he was. i didn't think much of it, until that fbi agent was, like, sounds like he is looking for ideas. >> reporter: our affiliate, denver 7, said the girls' bodies were found concealed in oil and gas tanks. the petroleum company where watts worked says they fired him on wednesday, the same day he was arrested. david. >> that's truly horrific. clayton, our thanks to you again this morning. i want to bring in former fbi agent brad garrett, and you have studied so many of these interviews with people who then turn suspects. this husband had just been pleading for his wife's return hours before this reported confession, and i wanted you to take a look at what you made of this. >> okay. >> if you are out there, just just come back. i just want them back. i just want them to come back.

knocking over this small plane in tulsa, oklahoma. thankfully, no one hurt. this morning, severe weather in the south injuring 12 people, 3 in critical condition after a tent collapsed outside of birmingham, alabama. >> there is a tent that has blown over and several people are injured. >> reporter: tables flipped, water coolers tossed on the grass. the storm spreading to the south, lightning illuminating the sky in orlando, florida. in oklahoma, nearly 5 inches of rain falling. this car needed to be towed out of the floodwaters. others diverting off the road for drier ground as torrential rains hit the sooner state. the wind hitting tree limbs across this yard, a car barricaded in the driveway. and in minnesota, vikings fans forced to evacuate training camp due to lightning. and it is all moving towards the east, the northeast later on today.ow things will time out. that tropical moisture being fed in, could see some severe weather later on today.

strong winds, large hail, and maybe an isolated tornado up through the delaware gap to the capital district of albany. and the front drags back throughout saturday. and for the first half of the week, looks to be pretty soggy in the way of flash flooding. michael and robin, back over to you. >> thank you so much, rob. robin? new developments in the sex abuse scandal rocking the catholic church. the vatican breaking its silence, expressing quote shame and sorrow over the allegations made in a grand jury report that involved more than 300 priests. more than 1,000 abuse survivors and spans more than 70 years in pennsylvania. the vatican spokesperson says that survivors should know that quote the pope is on their side, david. rob we'll turn to new fallout for president trump and his decision to revoke the security clearance of john brennan and the white house then issuing that list of others warning that they could be next. the president revoking clearance for essentially someone who criticized him, and new this morning, other top intelligence officials are coming to brennan's defense. one saying, make me the next one. he revoked the navy admiral that

over saw the operation that killed bin laden, he said it would be an honor to have his clearance withdrawn as well. let's get to our chief white house correspondent on this. jon, this was rather significant. >> reporter: sure was, david. this was some of the most experienced and well-regarded former intelligence officials coming out with a statement overnight, criticizing the president's move to revoke that security clearance for john brennan as inconsiderate and unprecedented. in a statement, they say, you don't have to agree with what john brennan says. again, not all of us do. but you have to agree with his right to say it. we have never before seen the approval or removal of a security clearance used as a political tool as was done in this case. now this statement was signed by the people who ran the cia under every president, david, going back to ronald reagan. and it comes as you mentioned, admiral william mcraven, the person who oversaw the raid that killed osama bin laden, writing an open letter to the president saying, quote, i would consider

it an honor if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so i can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency. just a reminder, david, there are many reasons why former officials have security clearances. perhaps the most important is that they represent the institutional knowledge of the intelligence community and continue to provide advice to current officials. >> should there be another national emergency, great point, jon. and some breaking news overnight on the president's plans for a military parade down pennsylvania avenue. the new cost of it was something, like, $92 million in taxpayer money. now it's been postponed? >> reporter: it has. this was a postponement that was announced right after that cost estimate was made public. the american legion for one came out to say that that money would be better spent providing for veterans and not a big show of force on pennsylvania avenue.

[ applause ] yeah. thank you. we really do appreciate speaking with you for a few moments here, smokey. tell us that first time when you all were just children, when you met aretha for the first time. >> well, robin, i actually met aretha when i was 8 years old. they moved to detroit from buffalo, new york, she and her entire family, and her brother who was closest to her, cecil, was my lifelong ace boom guy. so the first day i met him, he was brought to the neighborhood by a guy named richard who was one of our friends, and most of us who were playing who brought cecil around, and introduced him, and so we went around to see his new house. now in the middle of the hood, you know, i lived in the hood, there were these two plush blocks, and they were just so out of place because there were mansions there,hey lived on bos

boulevard, and we go into the house, and there's the furniture and all that. i had never been in a mansion before, but let me say this too. they were not mansion people. they were just regular, down to earth people. but anyway, we go in, and we're looking all around, and i hear music coming from a room, and i hear piano being played and i hear this little voice singing, and i look in, and there is aretha sitting at the piano, singing and playing almost like she sang and played in her adult life, but she was probably about 5 years old or so, and she just had it. >> oh, my. yes. and what was it like years later to be performing with her as you did? the duets that you all did together. what was it look performing with her? >> well, you know, i don't separate the performing part from just the love part, you know? >> mm-hmm. >> aretha and i were just tight, and ewiwe had a wonderful,

wonderful friendship that lasted throughout her entire life, and she was my longest friend who was still -- up until the day before yesterday, she was my longest friend on earth. all my other friends we grew up with were gone. >> yeah. we saw some video from the 1960s of you all together, and you both, to go from where you did to the heights of your careers to king and queen of motown, what was that like seeing you guys rise together? to motown fame through the decades. >> well, let's see. aretha was never be motown, you know? wanted it badly. we all did, and she was never with motown, but she was family. that's how we conducted ourselves, was family. it would be a great thing for her to be with motown, but we

were not that fortunate. >> to see you all grow together, whether or not she was with motown, and she will be considered part of motown family, as you said, but what was it like to see knew from the age of 5, and you both to reach the fame, and the appreciation that you had? >> you know, robin, we always had a relationship that was almost like it had nothing to do with show business. it was just, you know, when we were kids, when we were young, we all wanted that, and those of us who were blessed enough to get it, there were a lot of people in our neighborhood like diana ross lived four doors down the street. the temptations lived three blocks over. there were a lot of us in that neighborhood, and those of us who were blessed enough to get our wish or our dream to be in show business, we just always had regular relationships. we very seldom -- when we got together, even talked about show business. >> it's this friendship. we'll put up a picture you
