morning. the victim is a 49-year-old man. he is expected to survive. a gun buyback in the east bay will turn weapons into art. abc 7 news was in richmond at civic center plaza. police officers unloaded guns from cars driven by people who wanted to swap them for gift cards or just wanted to get rid of them. the department partnered with a foundation named after a young man who died from gun violence. >> what makes our gun buybacks unique, once the guns have been decommissioned, we distribute them amongst artists to recreate and transform into pieces of art and then we have exhibits called the art of peace exhibits that are used to raise awareness about gun violence. >> the commission of the foundation is to help reduce gun violence, promote peace and offer vocational training for young adults. 60 former cia officials are joining a chorus of national security professionals denouncing president trump's decision to yank the security clearance of former cia director

john brennan. the president himself targeted brennan today once again. >> president trump spending the weekend at his private golf club and wasting no time going after a familiar target. former cia director john brennan. the president tweeting "has anyone looked at the mistakes that john brennan made while se serving as cia director. he'll go down as the worst in history." brennan vowed to fight back saying on msnbc -- >> the fact that he's using a security clearance of a former cia director as a pawn i think he's drunk on power. >> reporter: the move means brennan who served under president trump will no longer have access to classified information. the white house says the move isn't being done to settle scores but many believe the president is sending a strong message to silence his critics. >> if this isn't personal,

didn't he revoke it on others. >> on friday, 65 former cia officers signed a letter condemning the president's decision. in addition to a dozen former security officials who called the president's actions an attempt to "stifle free speech." president trump's next potential target, bruce ohr whose wife worked for the firm producing a document on his alleged ties to russia. a brush fire forced b.a.r.t. to close its richmond station for an hour this afternoon. smoke was rising from richmond around 2:30. b.a.r.t. trains terminated early while crews battled the flames at the end of richmond. the station was reopened just before 4:00. new developments about this year's wildfire season.

the u.s. fire service reports that the estimated area burned in california this year surpassed 1 million acres. the largest wildfire in state history grew slightly overnight. it's 76% contained and scorched 595 square miles. the forest service says soil scientists, road engineers and ecologyists are among a team of people assessing the potential environmental risk. containment is up to 79% in the carr fire. that fire has grown to 350 square miles since it began on july 23rd. cal fire says the fire spread remains within vej takgetation n the burn area. a spare the air issued for today and tomorrow. lisa argen is here with the forecast. lisa, welcome back. >> thanks. temperatures went up today three

more animals have tested positive to the west nile virus. the first cases of the year have been reported in antioch where a dead bird tested positive and in concord earlier cases were confirmed in birds or mosquitoes. the area is entering peak west nile virus season and people in contra costa county should protect themselves from mosquito bites. two police officers in alabama are recognized as heroes after pulling a woman from a burning house. one of the officer's body cams recorded the dramatic moments.

do on this date, 8/18/18, the most popular date of the year because for some people the number 8 is considered lucky. we were at the recorder's office that opened today for weddings due to popular demand. they even extended office hours staying open tonight until 6:00 p.m. due to all of the wedding requests the county offered to marry a couple every half hour. we'll have a live report on the nuptial rush on abc 7 news at 6:00. a man who never even knew he had a daughter met her in sacramento this week. james long was understandably nervous as he waited at sacramento international airport. he said he first heard about his unknown daughter when his brother called out of the blue. >> all these 32 years passed and my brother calls and says, hey, your daughter wants you to call her. she's been looking for you for years and years. >> he's, like, is this samantha? yeah.

and fog. winds up to 23 miles an hour in san francisco. elsewhere, light, 10 to 15 miles an hour. pretty picture from our camera and highlights look like this. cooler inland tomorrow. the cooling continues for the beginning of the week. maybe even some mist and drizzle along the shoreline. seasonal pattern sets up the rest of the week. so if you don't like the heat, we are looking at a good dose of this. the low clouds, the fog to greet you pretty much each and every morning. in fact, moving across the bay by tomorrow morning and then it retreats. unfortunately it's not good enough to clear out the air. another spare the air alert in effect for tomorrow. the orange indicates for sensitive groups where the air will be unhealthy once again in our east bay valleys and particularly in the santa clara valley. keep that in mind if you're going to exercise. maybe good idea to do that earlier or perhaps closer to the bay. so we're looking at overnight lows in the 50s with the low clouds, the fog, and really we're going to see temperatures not stray too much from where we're going to be tomorrow.

but as for hurricane lane, it is continuing to be a force to reckon with. 140 miles an hour west-northwest at 15 miles an hour. this will keep it weakening to a category 3 tomorrow and into tuesday, 115 miles an hour. so if you have plans to visit hawaii, you want to keep that in mind. the wave heights will be up. in san jose tomorrow, the warmest day, 84 and then look at that. the temperatures will begin to settle off just into the low 80s. 80 in milpitas tomorrow. 7 70 in millbrae. by 3:00 nice day. fog in the morning. over to the bay in san leandro and 80 degrees inland. another warm one. hazy. accuweather seven-day forecast, tomorrow inland but around the bay and at the coast more comfortable. you notice temperatures go down through the middle of the week.
