and where the investigation goes from here. good morning, arlette. good morning, kendis and linda. president trump spent the weekend fuming on twitter. over a new report about the white house counsel's cooperation with the russia investigation. sources tell abc news don mcgahn has met with robert mueller's team at least three times and has been questioned more extensively than any other member of the white house. >> reporter: president trump back at the white house rushing off questions about the white house counsel's role in the russia investigation. >> reporter: mr. president do you still trust don mcgahn. >> reporter: this comes after "new york times" report confirmed by abc that don mcgahn cooperated extensively with the special counsel. the president tweeted the failing "new york times" wrote a fake piece implying that because white house counsel don mcgahn was giving hours of testimony to the special counsel he must be a john dean type rat. i allowed him and all others to testify. i didn't have to.

"new york times" reports michael cohen is being investigated for more than $20 million in loans obtained by his taxi businesses. he's also being investigated for payments during the presidential campaign to women claiming they had affairs with trump. the stark warning this morning from nashville police to its residents not to go outside alone. this after a string of deadly shootings in the city all within a ten-mile radius. police are pleading with anyone with information to come forward. >> reporter: the massive manhunt in nashville intensifying this morning. police search for two men driving this black chevy sedan being called cold-blooded killers. investigators say the men are behind a recent string of random robberies and shootings on the east side of the city. >> i've been in nashville all my life. i've never got up to two people shot, one person dead. three people shot.

>> reporter: authorities say the pair ambushed a group of friends outside a bar friday night. demanding money before gunning down 33-year-old bartley teal and 30-year-old jamie san antonio. >> he just had this soul about him. he was always happy. >> reporter: his band mates called him brandon was killed celebrating his birthday. >> it's not just brandon and jamie. it's the people before them. if this is all connected, there's victims before this. there doesn't need to be another one. >> no. senseless. >> reporter: their murders stoking fear after two other violent attacks. august 8th a woman shot in the back and paralyzed while walking her dogs. her husband a crew member for the band one republic said she's staying anonymous out of fear. on august 14th, 31-year-old kendall rice was robbed and fatally shot while waiting for the bus to go to work.

the car is heating up. it's going to explode. >> it really looks like a horror movie. a wild ride through a blazing forest fire in montana's glacier national park. it wasn't a movie. it was reality for a father and son who were camping in a park when the flames quickly spread around them. >> there was little warning and one decision they made saved their lives. abc's zachary kiesch shows us. >> the car is heating up. it's going to explode. >> reporter: this is cell phone video as a father and son escape a forest fire in montana's glacier national park. they first saw the fire while back country camping near the lake. the duo checking in with park rangers three separate times. lightning igniting fires in the

area, but were told it wasn't expected to spread. >> we watched it a while longer. we realized the fire looked like it had definitely grown. i said to my father we should get out of here. >> do i go? >> we'll find out up up about a minute. >> reporter: that's when they jumped back in the car. >> the wind shifted. the fire got real intense and it got out of control. >> reporter: justin behind the wheel. his dad recording the nightmare. >> oh, my god. >> keep going. >> reporter: the two racing to escape back to the main camp site. fire all around them. >> easy. easy. you can't see. >> reporter: you can hear the fear and indecision cornered by the blaze on a dead end road. >> jesus help us. >> reporter: the two coming across that burning tree which forced them to throw the car in reverse. what they didn't realize at the time that decision likely changing their lives. >> dad, we can't get out. >> when i put the car in a l on i didn't have the headlights anymore. somehow i was able to stay on the road.

>> when that video ends the driver throws the car in reverse a mile and a half down the road out of that ring of hell they went. they were eventually rescued by a couple boaters. they lived to tell this incredible story and have the video to go along with it. zachary kiesch, abc news new york. gretchen carlson the chair woman of miss america who was appointed to address a sexism scandal is now responding to a new controversy. the reigning miss america cara mund claims she's been intimidated and marginalized among sweeping changes at the organization. she's joined a petition calling for carlson to resign. carlson said i've never bullied or silenced you. we acknowledged your grievances and took many steps to make your experience a good one. carlson claims munn's accusations have already coast the pageant financial support. one of the first women to accuse harvey weinstein of sexual assault reportedly paid

"the new york times" reports a young actor claimed asia argento sexually assaulted him. when he was 17 years old and she settled the case for nearly $400,000. during the settlement argento was in a relationship with anthony bourdain. the report claims that bourdain helped argento navigate the matter. a british woman sharing details about her horrifying ordeal at sea after she fell off a cruise ship. kay longstaff was rescued after falling into the adriatic sea some 60 miles from the country of croatia. she was spotted by rescuers and rushed to the hospital. >> i was sitting at the back of the deck. i fell off the back of the norwegian star and i was in the water for ten hours. these wonderful guys rescued me. i am very lucky to be alive. >> i would say. according to one expert more than 300 passengers have gone
