oakland police telling us it's in the area of the station and that one person was hurt. we'll update you as soon as we have more details calling for a change at the santa rita jail, a large group gathered protesting the release of female inmates in the early morning hours. >> this comes after the death of a young woman. abc 7 news reporter matt keller live outside the jail with the story. matt? >> change could be coming soon. state senator skinner plans on introducing a bill so people aren't released in the middle of the night from jail. a rally was held at jail followed with a nearly two-mile walk to the dublin bart station. they were protesting the release of female inmates in the early morning hours. this push for change comes nearly one month after the death of 26-year-old jessica st. louis. she was released around 1:30 in the morning after dead at the d bart station. while foul play has been ruled out, it does highlight the issue

yosemite for a time. two firefighters died in that fire that grew to 97,000 acres. the cause of the fire is unknown. california lawmakers will not take up a proposal to protect electrical utilities from financial liabilities for wildfires. >> lawmakers tell "the chronicle" there's not enough time in this session to settle the issue. current state law holds utilities for damage for fires ignited by their equipment. supporters of the proposal like governor brown fear utilities could go bankrupt or significantly raise prices for customers. critics say changing the liability would raise insurance premiums and remove incentives for utilities to do everything they can to prevent fires a celebrated poet from the east bay was killed while crossing the street in berkeley. poetry foundation.org posted the tribute to tom clark. he was hit by a car crossing a road called the alameda in berkeley on friday night.

police say clark was not in a crosswalk when a driver who had a green light struck him. in addition to poetry he wrote about sports and penned biographies, many focused on the lives of beat generation write years san francisco coffee roaster four barrel has not changed ownership as promised after the founder was accused of sexual assault and harassment. neither of the two remaining owners plan to divest and make it employee owned. they have focused on rebuilding the company's culture since the january lawsuit. they also say their staff has completed harassment, inclusivity and bias training first responders rescued three people after their boat ran aground in san jose. it happened yesterday in the neighborhood right on the bay. an adult and two kids were on the 16-foot boat that ended up stuck in the mud when the tide went out and called for help and two rescue boats from the fire department responded. the owner of the boat will need to wait until the tide comes back in to recover his vessel

and everything was quiet. >> investigators say a 20-year-old man was shot and expected to survive. one man from washington state who police say was visiting the home got arrested. police aren't sure if he played a role in the shooting new details involving the accident at a backstreet boys concert in oklahoma over the weekend. >> we are hearing from one of the fans injured after a storm caused part of a structure to collapse. at least 14 people were hurt. windstar said it began evacuating fans when lightning was reported in the area saturday afternoon. 150 concertgoers didn't leave. high winds knocked over an entrance and this video shows the metal scaffolding on the ground. >> i never knew it was falling until -- i didn't know it fell until well after. i was hit in the head and on the something happened and blood is literally pouring out of my head. >> the backstreet boys tweeted s meag slamming the organization and its chairwoman gretchen carlson

resident with spanish identity documents. local media is reporting the man was from nigeria. happening today, san francisco unified students go back to school, but there are questions about how some of them will get there. >> muni has been facing a driver shortage recently. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live for us in russian hill. hi, amy. >> hi, good morning, reggie. at the academy of science and technology. there are several bus stops around the school here at polk and francisco. the kids who take the bus here, could be a little late today on this first day of school. muni has an operator shortage. san francisco school officials went ahead and put out a warning to its campuses that children and staff might be late arriving to school because of this shortage. muni responded saying officials moved 72 employees from part time to full time to provide more coverage. they did that on friday and that should bring them about 700 more service hours a day.

they think that will have a huge impact this week. everyone is on notice just in case this first day of school might have some delays. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. what a pain. a three-car side show on the bay bridge shut down all five westbound lanes yesterday at 10:45 in the morning. one driver crashed or broke an axle doing doughnuts and got arrested for reckless driving. the rest got away. an hour after the bay bridge side show a san francisco woman sf the bridge. like what hec gp a excessive speeds. it was chaos out here. i thought, this is worse than usual mary morris lives nearby and saw the parking lot side show. as an illustration, while we

were shooting the story about side shows, a side show showed up and performed doughnuts. developing news on the mendocino complex fires. cal fire issued new mandatory evacuations last night. >> this is the area north of the glenn line east of the mendocino national forest boundary, south of county road 308 and west of county road 306. >> the ranch fire is part of the mendocino complex that's now 76% contained, burning more than 340,000 acres. cal fire expects to have full containment by september 1st. crews announced full containment on the ferguson fire around yosemite that burned nearly 97,000 acres. for the deadly carr fire in shasta and trinity counties it has burned 227,000 acres and 85% contained but does not have an expected containment date we sent this push alert at 10:00 soon after the new evacuations were issued.
