bay. take a look outside, we have overcast skies in san francisco. your 12-hour planner today, the areas of dense fog first thing and we will see sunnier skies prevailing but the morning cloud cover will take its time clearing out of the region. by 4:00, it is a cooler afternoon compared to the weekend. 70s and 80s away from the coast. that's weather and a check of the roads with alexis. good morning. >> good morning. our first incident of the morning, a three-car crash just in on westbound 80 right around leisure town and it is blocking the left lane. sounds like emergency crews are there. a tow truck is there as well and working on moving this off to the shoulder. stop-and-go traffic, coming in from highway 4 or the hercules area. other than that it has been quiet so far this morning. a live look at the san jose highway 87 camera right around the airport. no incident or delays there. that is how most of your commutes are going so far today developing news this morning after a shooting near the fruitvale bart station. we are working to get details on a specific location.

oakland police telling us it's in the area of the station and that one person was hurt. we'll update you as soon as we have more details calling for a change at the santa rita jail, a large group gathered protesting the release of female inmates in the early morning hours. >> this comes after the death of a young woman. abc 7 news reporter matt keller live outside the jail with the story. matt? >> change could be coming soon. state senator skinner plans on introducing a bill so people aren't released in the middle of the night from jail. a rally was held at jail followed with a nearly two-mile walk to the dublin bart station. they were protesting the release of female inmates in the early morning hours. this push for change comes nearly one month after the death of 26-year-old jessica st. louis. she was released around 1:30 in the morning after dead at the d bart station. while foul play has been ruled out, it does highlight the issue

of releasing vulnerable people at a time of day when they're less likely to get help. >> we're still totally shocked by the situation that took place for them to release her at such a late hour in the morning as you can see, it's totally dark, with just the bart ticket and no cell phone, with allowing her to have no communication with us. we did not kno released. >> reporter: the coroner says st. louis's death appears to be from a drug overdose. the sheriff's office says it's obligated to release people when their sentences are complete regardless of what time it is. reporting live in dublin, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thank you. family, friends and classmates paid tribute to two high school graduates killed in a crash blamed on underaged drinking. abc 7 news was at antioch's deer valley high school yesterday that's where 18 doves were released in memory of

fagorala and john yesterday. it would have been fagorala's 18th birthday. the twins' mother spoke at the gathering. >> this is not a grieving moment, but dakarai's name means happy so get happy feelings, happy feet, happy tears, pray for one another, love on your parents. >> an 18-year-old woman faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and dui for the crash that killed the two. her car plunged off a freeway overpass in walnut creek on august 12th fire officials issued new evacuations last night for the ranch fire. >> you can see the new order's highlighted north of the glenn line east of the mendocino facial forest. the fire has burned over 340,000 acres making it the largest wildfire in state history. crews battling the ferguson wildfire have reached full containment. >> the wildfire started july 13th in mariposa and shut down

yosemite for a time. two firefighters died in that fire that grew to 97,000 acres. the cause of the fire is unknown. california lawmakers will not take up a proposal to protect electrical utilities from financial liabilities for wildfires. >> lawmakers tell "the chronicle" there's not enough time in this session to settle the issue. current state law holds utilities for damage for fires ignited by their equipment. supporters of the proposal like governor brown fear utilities could go bankrupt or significantly raise prices for customers. critics say changing the liability would raise insurance premiums and remove incentives for utilities to do everything they can to prevent fires a celebrated poet from the east bay was killed while crossing the street in berkeley. poetry foundation.org posted the tribute to tom clark. he was hit by a car crossing a road called the alameda in berkeley on friday night.

police say clark was not in a crosswalk when a driver who had a green light struck him. in addition to poetry he wrote about sports and penned biographies, many focused on the lives of beat generation write years san francisco coffee roaster four barrel has not changed ownership as promised after the founder was accused of sexual assault and harassment. neither of the two remaining owners plan to divest and make it employee owned. they have focused on rebuilding the company's culture since the january lawsuit. they also say their staff has completed harassment, inclusivity and bias training first responders rescued three people after their boat ran aground in san jose. it happened yesterday in the neighborhood right on the bay. an adult and two kids were on the 16-foot boat that ended up stuck in the mud when the tide went out and called for help and two rescue boats from the fire department responded. the owner of the boat will need to wait until the tide comes back in to recover his vessel

and everyone is okay and time now approaching 5:07 on this monday morning. a look at our temperatures in the south bay, good morning, san jose, waking up to 55 degrees. 60 in mountain view. area wide we're mainly in the 50s. the lone exception is in the north bay. you can see, good morning, waking up to a chill in the atmosphere, upper 40s. hour by hour and time out the cloud cover overhead right now across the majority of the region. 7:00 see gray on the screen indicating the marine layer is with us. a gradual clearing to the coastline today. by 10:00 in the morning seeing fog over san francisco, some patchy fog still around the east bay shoreline, but into the afternoon by 1:00, you can see the cloud cover confined to the immediate coastline. today will be cooler than it was over the weekend, but we will still have that haze in our atmosphere. the air quality later on this afternoon is moderate across the board. you will notice we have the haze once again. not a spare the air day in effect but know if you have

respiratory issues you want to take it easy with the air quality at moderate levels. right now overcast skies. your three-day forecast will feature 70s and 80s later this afternoon. tomorrow is the coolest day, tuesday, we'll see temperatures slightly below average for this time of the year and comfortable weather hits us on wednesday. no intense heat is lingering in the east bay. that's good news. a check of the roads on this early morning. >> mostly good news this mornin too. we are checking out golden gate bridge right now. i know drew has been talking about fog in the north bay. not looking terrible and we don't have a dense fog advisory issued by chp. that could change. it does tend to thicken up throughout the morning. something we are keeping an eye on but not a major factor once you make it this far south. drive times looking good. westbound 580 tracy to dublin. southbound 680 dublin to mission boulevard in the green and northbound 85 to cupertino wide open at 15 minutes. >> thanks. today's "gma" first look the

colorado father who reportedly confessed to killing his wife and two daughters is expected to be formally charged today. this morning we're hearing from the mother's friends and co-workers. here's clayton sandell. >> in this morning's "gma" first look the last friend to see shanann watts alive is speaking out. nicole says she knew something wasn't right. 2:00 a.m. monday she says she dropped shanann watts at home from a late business trip. >> she went inside, turned around and waved at me and shut the door. >> several hours later she says the 34-year-old mother of two isn't answering her phone. she misses a doctor's appointment. shanann was 15 weeks pregnant. >> she was going to get to hear the baby's heartbeat. >> she says when she alerted shanann's husband chris, he seemed unconcerned his wife and daughters, 3-year-old celeste and 4-year-old bela, were missing. she calls police. >> he kept saying he didn't know where she was.

and everything was quiet. >> investigators say a 20-year-old man was shot and expected to survive. one man from washington state who police say was visiting the home got arrested. police aren't sure if he played a role in the shooting new details involving the accident at a backstreet boys concert in oklahoma over the weekend. >> we are hearing from one of the fans injured after a storm caused part of a structure to collapse. at least 14 people were hurt. windstar said it began evacuating fans when lightning was reported in the area saturday afternoon. 150 concertgoers didn't leave. high winds knocked over an entrance and this video shows the metal scaffolding on the ground. >> i never knew it was falling until -- i didn't know it fell until well after. i was hit in the head and on the something happened and blood is literally pouring out of my head. >> the backstreet boys tweeted s meag slamming the organization and its chairwoman gretchen carlson

accusing the leadership of bullying and intimidation. cara munn says the current ceo silenced and marginalized her. she denies the bullying and surprised and saddened about the allegations. 19 are calling for the resignation of carlson and the board of trusties. >> i thi-- trustees. >> it will send a message to the public we are willing to do the right thing so that miss america will not have to go through what cara has gone through. >> carlson said the miss america organization can no longer offer $75,000 in scholarships as a result of the allegations in the letter. >> federal prosecutors are considering filing bank fraud charges against president trump's former attorney and so-called fixer michael cohen. "the new york times" reports authorities are looking at whether cohn committed bank fraud of greater than $20 million. investigators have focused on loans obtained by taxi companies

owned by cohn and his family. uber drivers at san francisco international airport are getting clobbered by tickets they're not aware they had and have no way to appeal. the violations are for not displaying an uber sticker. uber deducts the cost from the driverer a earnings. it's $100 a pop. they billed uber in fines last year. drivers say the airport doesn't provide them with evidence of the violation. sfo says the companies must initiate any appeals it is being called the miracle on the mound. >> a nun threw out the ceremonial first pitch at a baseball game and delivered it as though guided by a higher power. john donovan was there. >> reporter: with a mitt on her hand and a spring in her step sister mary jo took the mound last night before the white sox played, not the shy type at all, to throw the ceremonial first pitch. that she signaled to her

monday at 7:00 in the morning, later today you see a lot of cloud cover, that gray shading on your screen, and it will take its time pulling back to the coast. the marine layer is deep right now. what that means, that thick cloud cover will take its time breaking down. by 10:00 this morning, still cloudy over san francisco, still seeing patchy fog in the east bay shoreline. away from the coast a lot of sunshine. later this afternoon it will be a cooler afternoon compared to the weekend. highs a little bit below average for this time of the year. that will feel nice for a lot of folks. 87 a high in concord, 65 in san francisco, 69 in oakland, 81 the high in santa rosa. if you are traveling today to so cal, l.a., much warmer than san francisco at 85. 103 in fresno. accuweather seven-day forecast, cooler afternoon today, the coolest day all week is tomorrow. coastal drizzle and temperatures stay either at or just slightly below average for this time of the year through the weekend. a check of the roads with alexis. >> good morning, drew. yeah overall it has been a quiet

start to the workweek here seeing mostly green on our traffic maps. red if you are coming in through the area. westbound between highway 4 and san pablo avenue a line of red, sounds like we had a crash in that area. plan on delays if you are trying to get closer to the bay bridge. still no metering lights once you make it to the toll plaza. a quick check outside here is southbound 680 through walnut creek. a little fog showing up here. that is starting to fill in too right around main street. no significant delays. that commute is looking good this morning as well. highway patrol officers arrested two drivers in richmond on suspicion of racing on 580 at speeds up to 100 miles an hour. the cars were pulled over near marina bay parkway. both drivers were taken into custody and face reckless driving and speeding charges and their cars will be impounded for 30 days a family owned restaurant in svedast meal. abc 7 news was in san rafael yesterday where pted in

line to have one last brunch at bogie's cafe. the restaurant opened 29 years ago. the owners say business is good but they're closing because of an unresolved issue involving the americans with disabilities act. >> if it wasn't for bogie's we wouldn't know the people we know now and the friendships we've made. that's more valuable than anything. that's priceless. >> i always said the cafe was here for the betterment of others. >> the brother and sister team that run anyone who has driven on national avenue in hayward has seen these giant plastic characters and curious people got a chance to see them up close yesterday. bell plastics owns a wide range of artificial ambassadors from old businesses and once a year they let the public get an up close look. >> the only time during the year that we open the building. you can come in and wander around and look at stuff.

afternoon with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. pretty much where we should be for this time of the year. let's see how we're doing on the roads. >> we're doing okay in most areas, drew. i want to flip over on our traffic maps and zoom into westbound 80. we have heavy traffic. sounds like we have late roadwork through the highway 4 interchange into the pinol area. a couple areas they're working on clearing. the rest of our drive times are looking good. southbound 101 santa rosa to petaluma 13 minutes, westbound 580 castro valley to the maze in the green, northbound 101 to highway 85 just 14 minutes developing news out of spain where police shot and killed a man who was attacking officers with a knife. that attack happened inside a police station in a district outside barcelona. state media says the attacker was a 29-year-old algerian

resident with spanish identity documents. local media is reporting the man was from nigeria. happening today, san francisco unified students go back to school, but there are questions about how some of them will get there. >> muni has been facing a driver shortage recently. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live for us in russian hill. hi, amy. >> hi, good morning, reggie. at the academy of science and technology. there are several bus stops around the school here at polk and francisco. the kids who take the bus here, could be a little late today on this first day of school. muni has an operator shortage. san francisco school officials went ahead and put out a warning to its campuses that children and staff might be late arriving to school because of this shortage. muni responded saying officials moved 72 employees from part time to full time to provide more coverage. they did that on friday and that should bring them about 700 more service hours a day.

were shooting the story about side shows, a side show showed up and performed doughnuts. developing news on the mendocino complex fires. cal fire issued new mandatory evacuations last night. >> this is the area north of the glenn line east of the mendocino national forest boundary, south of county road 308 and west of county road 306. >> the ranch fire is part of the mendocino complex that's now 76% contained, burning more than 340,000 acres. cal fire expects to have full containment by september 1st. crews announced full containment on the ferguson fire around yosemite that burned nearly 97,000 acres. for the deadly carr fire in shasta and trinity counties it has burned 227,000 acres and 85% contained but does not have an expected containment date we sent this push alert at 10:00 soon after the new evacuations were issued.

sexually assaulted him. according to the "new york times" asia argento paid $380,000 to her accuser jimmy bennett who was 17 at the time. in a notice of intent to sue, bennett says the actress sexually assaulted him in a southern california hotel in 2013. argento was one of the first women to publicly accuse harvey weinstein of sexual assault happening today, the attorney for a man arrested by i.c.e. in san bernardino plans to file a motion to have him released on bond. the man was taken into custody wednesday when he and his pregnant wife were stopped at a gas station on the way to the hospital to deliver their baby. i.c.e. says arrona-lara is wanted in mexico on homicide charges. his attorney denies any criminal history in mexico. i.c.e. is moving forward with proceedings to have him deported. president trump is trying to discredit a "new york times" report that white house counsel met with special counsel robert mueller. the report confirmed by abc news says that white house counsel

don mcgahn cooperated extensively with the special counsel into russia's meddling with the election. in a tweet mr. trump sai allowed mcgahn to fully cooperate with the special counsel. meanwhile, president trump's lawyer rudy giuliani said he's not going to rush the president into testifying with the special counsel. giuliani says the president could get trapped into perjury. he then said this. >> when you tell me that, you know, he should testify because he's going to tell the truth and shouldn't worry that's silly because it's somebody's version of the truth, not the truth. he didn't have a conversation -- >> truth is truth. i don't mean to go like -- >> no, it isn't truth. truth isn't truth. >> that truth isn't truth line now getting a lot of attention this morning. sources tell abc news among the topics mueller wanted to speak with mcgahn circumstances surrounding the firing of former fbi director james comey time approaching 5:38 a.m. on this morning morning.
