but we're going to begin with that urgent manhunt in nashville. the city is on edge as police undergo investigations to find out if those deadly shootings are connected. steve osunsami is there with more. good morning, steve. >> reporter: good morning to you, michael. police are really worried about this one. they're telling residents not to go out alone, to be on the lookout. they say that no wallet or watch is worth taking a life, but these killers they're telling us this morning, don't seem to understand that. the manhunt is on this morning for men seen in this surveillance video driving this black chevy sedan. they're seen robbing and shooting victims, and police are calling them cold-blooded killers. >> i've lived in nashville all my life. i've never got up to see two people shot, one person dead. three people shot. >> reporter: three people have been shot and killed in the last nine days. another barely survived, and the shootings were just a few months apart. >> officers throughout the city

are on the lookout for two cold-blooded killers who obviously have no respect whatsoever for the sanctity of human life. >> reporter: on friday 30-year-old jamie sarrantonio and bartley teal were shot and killed outside a bar where they were celebrating his birthday. police say the robbers demanded teal's belongings and opened fire. his friends can't believe he's gone. >> he was everybody's friend. >> he's a huge part in why we are what we are. >> reporter: three days earlier on august 14th, kendall rice was robbed and killed on his way to a bus stop. about a week before that, a woman was shot in the back walking her dog around 1:00 a.m. she's alive today but paralyzed. her husband is a crew member for the band one republic. >> she is now in a wheelchair and going through multiple surgeries. >> reporter: the band expressing their concerns about the shooting, starting a gofundme page to help the couple.

speaking to "gma" by phone overnight, the woman's husband telling us he worries for his and his wife's safety. >> i don't feel safe where we are right now with what's going on. my wife is the toughest person i have ever, ever encountered in my life. nothing short of a miracle. >> reporter: police say the tips are now starting to come in as they continue to share pictures of those two men seen on that surveillance video driving that black sedan, but they are still telling residents they need to be on the lookout, paula. >> we're hoping they're able to locate the killers soon. steve, thank you. we want to move now to those violent storms ripping through the heartland right now. severe thunderstorms and several tornados have been reported. those storms are moving eastgica hi there, ginger. >> storm chasers getting us close to the violent tornados. the debris and the cows running there. this system that produced these tornados looks a whole lot more

like something we would see in may than late august. >> hit the barn. >> reporter: tornados throwing debris within severe storms sunday. >> it's on the road. >> reporter: at least five reported twisters from oklahoma to missouri. >> there goes another roof. >> reporter: trees plucked from the ground. gusts up to 60 miles per hour tearing off roofs in oklahoma. more than a dozen people were injured while waiting for a backstreet boys concert saturday night when winds knocked down an entrance tent. >> it's heart-breaking for the people there waiting for a concert, and they had to be wheeled out on a stretcher. >> reporter: overnight a flash flood emergency in raleigh, north carolina. more than four inches of rain swamping streets. in new york a man dying when he was struck by lightning at a state park on long island. >> now all eyes on the powerful low that's going east and north. you can see the flash flood warnings that are still attached to it, and also preventive in parts of wisconsin because even

parts of chicago will end up with heavy rains from this. where you'll see the potential for a tornado is southern indiana and east to nashville. keeping an eye on severe storms. tomorrow, get another shot at this from erie, down to charlottesville, george. we'll be watching this one as it exits finally on wednesday. >> could be a wet week. ginger, thanks very much. the latest on the mueller investigation. new reports president trump's white house lawyer has cooperated extensively with the special counsel. drawing fire from trump as his personal lawyer, michael cohen, is under pressure from prosecutors in new york. abc's terry moran is at the white house. good morning, terry. >> reporter: good morning, george. this morning the president is back here at the white house after spending the weekend golfing with senator rand paul among others and steaming about the story and the coverage of how his white house counsel, don mcgahn, is cooperating a lot with the russia investigation. the president is blasting a "new

russia investigation, going after bob mueller and his democrat thugs who spent over 30 hours with the white house counsel. he's reacting to a "new york times" report confirmed by abc news that don mcgahn cooperated extensively with robert mueller's russia investigation. tweeting over the weekend, the failing "new york times" wrote a fake piece today, reporting mcgahn spent 30 hours talking to robert mueller. he must be a john dean type rat. but i allowed him and all others to testify. trump's reference there to president nixon's white house counsel during watergate prompted a tweet from john dean himself. i doubt you have any idea what mcgahn has told mueller. however, he didn't know i would be telling the truth. rudy giuliani said he's been assured by trump's legal team that mcgahn was a, quote, strong witness for the president.

lawyer for donald trump, knows a lot about his history and his businesses, is now under scrutiny for $20 million and more in bank loans. prosecutors looking at bank fraud and tax fraud charges. they could use that potentially to lean on him to find out what he does know about president trump. >> either both in campaign finance cases and potentially in the mueller investigation as well. also on another front, terry, john brennan the former cia director under president obama of course, had his security clearance revoked by president trump last week. the president threatening to revoke other security clearances, but brennan also threatening legal action. >> reporter: that's right. john brennan decided to fight back not he claims for his own security clearance but in order to set a precedent that presidents should not be able to willy nilly for purely political reasons strike people's security clearances. he is looking at his legal options, although the supreme court has given the president a lot of power in this area. >> you've got over 100 former

cia officials protesting the president's actions. terry moran, thanks very much. paula? we go now to asia argento. one of the first people to accuse harvey weinstein of sexual assault, well, she is under fire this morning. a new report claims she paid off her own accuser, a young actor who says she sexually assaulted him when he was only 17 years old. abc's linsey davis is here with more. linsey, this is just a shocking development. >> reporter: a lot of people didn't see this coming. good morning, paula. his name is jimmy bennett, and according to his lawyer, seeing argento present herself as a victim of sexual assault caused him to speak out about his own encounter in a hotel room in 2013. his lawyer calls what happened sexual battery. he says the fallout was so traumatic, it threatened bennett's mental health. as one of the first actresses to step forward and accuse harvey movement, taking the film industry to task for a culture she says protects sexual abusers.

"the new york times" reports it received court documents from an anonymous encrypted e-mail, outlining a $380,000 settlement between argento and the former child actor after he alleged argento had sexually assaulted him in a california hotel room back in 2013. in 2013 argento posted this photo of herself and bennett on her instagram account with the caption, my son, my love, until i will live. "the new york times" says the

court documents viewed by the paper, bennett claims that argento gave him alcohol and kissed him before engaging in sexual activity. "the times" said there's also a photo of the two in bed together. in 2014 argento posted this photo of herself and winona ryder hugging bennett. fellow actress and weinstein accuser, rose mcgowan, tweeted about argento this morning saying, our commonality is shared pain of being assaulted by harvey weinstein. my heart is broken. i will continue my work on behalf of victims everywhere. argento is not part of the six felony counts that weinstein faces in new york. no word from argento about this. >> we'll be waiting for that. thanks very much. pope francis speaking out on the issue of sexual abuse this morning, issuing a letter to catholics around the world. he writes, we are not where we should have been, that we did not act in a timely manner. we didn't realize the magnitude and gravity of the damage done to so many lives. we showed no care for the little

ones. we abandoned them. he also says he has to take action, and no effort must be spared for the culture, and prevent the possibility of it being covered up and perpetua d perpetuated. michael. >> thank you, george. now to the growing outrage after immigration officials detained a man who was taking his pregnant wife to the hospital to give birth. he was taken into custody. she was left to drive herself to the hospital. now officials claim they had good reason to take him in. abc's marci gonzalez has the story. >> reporter: immigration officials explaining this arrest and prompting new questions this morning. joel arrona-lara in the u.s. illegally from mexico, taking his wife to the hospital to deliver their baby, pulling into this southern california gas station when you see their vehicle surrounded. surveillance video shows him being handcuffed and taken into custody, his wife left alone, seen here crying, later driving herself for her scheduled c-section and giving birth to their son. when i asked, why are you taking

my husband, they said somebody had reported us, she says. three days after the arrest i.c.e. telling abc news he was detained for being in the country illegally. then hours later, updating their statement saying, mr. arrona-lara was brought to our attention due to an outstanding warrant issued for his arrest in mexico on homicide charges. >> it looks like i.c.e. was doing their job. it's a question of why didn't they release both sets of documents or information at the same time. >> reporter: i.c.e. explaining they didn't release the warrant information right away because they were working to confirm it. but the mexican attorney general office and national security commission tell abc news they have no record of a record against arrona lara. and now the family attorney denies the allegations. >> they may be trying to justifying the stop. because of the outrage they're getting, this pregnant woman, and he gets picked up, and i think they are trying to cover their tracks. >> reporter: his attorney says he plans to file a motion today asking to have him released on bond as i.c.e. moves forward

with proceedings to have him deported, michael. >> thank you so much, marci. george? an amazing survival story. a woman fell off a cruise ship and spent ten hours in the water stranded before help came along. gio benitez is here with the story. good morning, gio. >> reporter: good morning. this happened in the middle of the night and the nearest land was 60 miles away and somehow she was found alive and well, so well that she's talking about it this morning. >> i am very lucky to be alive. >> reporter: for this woman who only wants to be known as kay, a relaxing trip to venice on a norwegian cruise ship became an all out emergency. >> i fell off the back of "the norwegian star," and i was in the water for ten hours. so these wonderful guys rescued me. >> reporter: one passenger taking this photo showing where kay fell off the boat right before midnight saturday, 60 miles off croatia's coast. alerting the coast guard, a rescue boat scrambling finding

her swimming sunday morning ten hours later. if that rescue sounds like a miracle, that's because data suggests it's extremely rare. one academic who tracks this says more than 300 passengers have gone overboard since 2000, and only 17% have been rescued. incredibly, it also happened another cruise ship spotting him off the coast of cuba, he was still alive 22 hours later. >> i was on the lifeboat, and i was part of the crew that pulled him out of the water. he was obviously distressed from being in the water so long. >> reporter: following kay's incident, norwegian telling us this morning, we are very happy that the individual who is a uk resident is safe and will soon be reunited with friends and family. and again, kay is doing well this morning. she was taken to a local hospital but is said to be in good condition. the rest of the trip was delayed so the cruise line is figuring out how to get those passengers back home on time, but boy oh boy. all around good news for this woman.

>> i would say so. >> thanks very much. >> wow. what a story. we're going to go to another story, an incredible and terrifying video, showing a car driving through a wild fire. a father and son racing down the road desperately trying to escape the intense blaze in glacier national park in montana. take a look at this. >> the car is heating up. it's going to explode. jesus, god help us. >> the flames heating up that car as you hear them describe it as they are inside that inferno. a tree fell blocking their way, but they backed up and were able to go in reverse to get out just in time. we're glad the father and son are safe. >> you can hear the panic in their voice. they stopped recording about that moment they put it in reverse, and they drove a mile and a half to get out and escaped through a lake, but can you imagine being in that situation? >> that's scary. terrifying. let's go back >> and unfortunately, a lot of people have been in that situation, and those wildfires

george. that friend said her last good-bye to shanann watts right here in front of the family home. but when police later arrested chris watts for allegedly murdering his wife and two daughters, she tells me she was not surprised. nicole atkinson said she knew something wasn't right. 2:00 a.m. monday she says she dropped her friend, shanann watts, at home late from a business trip. >> she walked inside and waved and shut the door. >> reporter: but several hours later, she says the 34-year-old mother of two isn't answering her phone. she misses a doctor's appointment. shanann was 15 weeks pregnant. >> she was going to hear the baby's heartbeat and s s or she was doing. >> reporter: atkinson said, when she alerted chris, he seemed unconcerned that his wife and daughters, 3-year-old celeste and 4-year-old bella, were missing. >> shanann, bella, celeste, if you are out there, just come back. like, if somebody has her, just please bring her back. >> reporter: she calls police. >> he just kept saying he didn't know where she was, that she was on a play date, but he couldn't

give us the name of the friend. >> reporter: a neighbor's security camera footage adds to the mystery. >> it shows chris leaving that morning. there was no movement in between the times of me dropping her off, chris leaving and then me coming back. >> what does that tell you? >> there was something seriously wrong. >> reporter: investigators believe watts drove the bodies of his wife and girls to his company's property. >> i didn't want to think that they weren't coming back. >> reporter: on facebook shanann often posted videos of a seemingly happy family. >> he stuck around and he stuck around because he was the one for me, and he is amazing, and i can't tell you how wonderful he is. >> reporter: but atkinson says shanann told her chris had recently become standoffish, their marriage strained. >> he wasn't being the loving chris that he normally was. he wasn't touching or hugging or

"the heart is deceitful" among all things. when bennett was 17, his lawyer said he went to see argento in her california hotel room where he claims argento sexually assaulted him. social media. >> what are some of those risks? there are legitimate concerns about their children, revealing too much? >> parents tell us they're worried about their kids sharing too much information with potentially dangerous individuals. like where they are going, whether they are alone. and they can get fired or lose a job opportunity. these are young adults who need to work and be responsible. lastly, you don't want someone to take those images and use them and catfish someone or pretend to be you. >> in this circumstance alec baldwin's daughter is in that in between stage before she's an adult. but she is relying on her parents for money. a lot of kids in that particular age group are, but when do you start having these conversations with your kids? at a very young age? >> kids as early as 5 are asking for smartphones. you want to set rules in your house when it's appropriate to use social media. for some families it's 12, 13, 14. next you want the limits and standards early. you want to tell them what's acceptable and not acceptable to

sleep, you put a blanket over the top. it's 89 degrees today. it's baking. so the question if we put this thermometer inside the stroller, put the cover down as you would when baby is napping and cover it with a blanket how hot will it get? this blanket is a slim muslin, and it seems really breathable. but i check it after just ten minutes. wow. it's 98, almost 99 degrees. it's gone up almost ten degrees. that's hot for a baby. we tried the same thing with a thick blanket. it's 102 degrees and only a little bit hotter than when we had the thin muslin blanket on top. there's no baby here. there's no breath being expelled. no 98-degree heat generator. meaning that stroller seat could get hotter. if you think walking ventilates the stroller, think again. ten minutes walking, we checked the temperature again.

we are back now with a new study that may change everything you think you know about picky eaters. abc's chief medical correspondent jen ashton will be live in just a moment. first why pressuring kids to eat won't make a difference. >> reporter: picky eaters, if you don't know one personally, you've seen one in the movies. >> open. >> like riley from "inside out." >> hold on guys. it's broccoli! >> reporter: don't pressure your picky eater. it doesn't work. new research shows forcing kids to eat foods they don't like won't change their ways or if they have picky habits later. it will make it tense at mealtime. experts say picky eating is common in toddlers and you can go up to age 6. babies grow so much during the first year often tripling their weight. it's normal for their appetite to slow down. and also normal for parents to

for themselves, but if you really look at this, the don'ts are, you have to kind of take a macro global view for this. first of all pressuring is not going to help. we didn't need a study to tell us that. it does confirm it. remember the development tasks of a toddler. they're allowed to have their preferences. this is the me era. i want to do it by myself. i want to make the decision. it's about the me and the i. you should acknowledge that and honor it. don't make mealtime a battle. we have to take a big, long view on this, and realize it's not just what they eat at every meal. what are they getting in 24 hours, and over a week that really matters? >> what about those kids that never eat? >> were you one of those kids? i have feel like we should have mama strahan. >> what do you guys think? no. >> as a mother i had one child who had sushi by the age of 2 and the other who ate a completely white meal until they were 10. in terms of the warning signs, when you take your child to the
