toll. >> a country that once bought our recyclable items put the brakes on the purchases. >> cornell has the fall-out.fal. >> reporter: marin recycling company calling this a crisis. they never planned to get in the storage business but that's what's happening. check out this tower of plastic because they can't get rid of it and their main buyer isn't buying. this is only the beginning. recycling trucks are unloading paper and plastic by the minute at marin recycling center. finding space for those items has become a giant problem. they're running out of room. >> there's a lot of it and doubles since last week. >> reporter: kimberly isn't joking, 10 feet high stretching as long as a football field. >> no, we can't go one more bale

that's a nearly 4,000 foot mountain, the kind that usually looms over central contra costa county. usually more like a hazy shadow if you can see it at all. >> you can see it and smell it, it's not good for you. >> reporter: director for the bay area air quality management district. the ongoing mendocino complex fire is only part of the problem. much of this smoke is coming from other fires as far away as oregon and british columbia. >> it shows you how far fog and smoke can travel. down to the bay area from british columbia and we get stuff from china once in a while. >> reporter: at walnut creek parents made the best of smog clearing wind to get their children outside for a while. >> we saw it looked like a pretty good day and thought it would be a good day to come out and let them enjoy the sun a little bit.

>> it's been so bad, let's check in with sandy. >> it will improve the latter part of the work week but not all areas. look at part of the problem. the wind is not terribly strong and transporting some smoke into our area. you see a little smoke and haze from the mt. tam cam. the air quality will be moderate across the entire bay area and extended through thursday due to the smoke from the wildfires out west. still moderate air quality in the bay area through thursday but improvement as the winds begin to pick up? sandy, thanks so much. falling tree branches from a fire retardant drop likely killed a firefighter, a preliminary report. battalion chief matthew burchett

was one of 37 firefighters from utah called to help retain our firefighters here. taking immediate action saying firefighters need to stay clear of hazards when there is an air drop. funeral services were held for 42-year-old burchett. thousands said good-bye to this father and husband. the search for a man has come to an end. the body of scott tenczars with found in the northeast region of the park according to park officials. he was considered an experienced hiker last seen july 25th. the cause of the death is under investigation. a uc berkeley professor has been suspended for three years without pay for sexually harassing a graduate student. nezar alsayyad engaged in a

pattern of harassment that created a host file environment. the chancellor would not address it specifically saying doing so would violate the confidentiality of the procedures but she talked about the university's position regarding harassment. >> the campus has no tolerance for sexual harassment. we aspire to be a harassment-free environment and i think we're seeing real progress there. >> the complaint was filed in 2016 by a uc doctoral candidate and he has denied misconduct. a man was run over and dragged three-quarters of a mile before the driver realized he was under her car. it happened on borgess lane near agnes court. live in vallejo with the story. >> reporter: police say it is possible someone other than this driver had already hit this man or that he was already in the

roadway. tonight, that driver is cooperating with police. so far she has not been charged or cited. vallejo police say just before 2:00 a.m., a driver called them to report a man underneath her car. markings in the roadway show where the man's shirt, shoes and bracelet came off. police say the woman didn't realize the man was underneath her car until she drove three-quarter of a mile home. >> i've been doing this job 23 years. this is probably the second or third where i had someone drug at some point. where they didn't necessarily know immediately there was a body. >> reporter: the coroner's office identified the body as 47-year-old of vallejo. neighbors were stunned. >> it's pretty tragic. i don't understand how anybody can hit them and not be cognizant of that. >> reporter: police say the victim may have already been

down. >> there's no damage to the windshield or front hood or grill. >> reporter: the driver was driving on a suspended license and police aren't certain why and she had an related warrant for theft. >> the consented to drug and alcohol tests. >> reporter: there were no objective signs to suggest she was under the influence. police say they're now trying to get in touch with the victim's family to get a better sense where he may have been coming from or going to overnight when this happened. melanie, abc news. >> thank you. looking for more drivers involved in a sideshow on the bay bridge. watch. this was the scene just before 11:00 a.m. yesterday. at least three white cars doing donuts on the upper deck. one of the cars broke down. officers arrested one driver from stockton, impounding his

civil suit one might ever imagine novato. she is suing her former pastor for nearly tearing apart her marriage. >> at the time i was under his spell. >> reporter: they have been married almost nine years and had four children. not only did they worship at the quest church they also worked there. problems began when the couple had marital issues and trusted pastor joe evans for guidance. she said she pastor took personal information and her boss to manipulate her into an affair about her problems. >> i wanted my husband to be more romantic. if i had a really hard day with the kids i wanted him to draw me a bulb bath. every day that week on my desk at work, he would leave a different piece of a bubble bath kit. >> this is not just my client's pastor, my client's employer,

her marital counselor. >> reporter: ultimately kimberly says she and pastor every had a three month relationship that led to a pregnancy. the pastor's solution, she says, was to have an abortion, reluctantly, kimberly did, feeling powerless. >> it's not affair, abuse of power, a name for it, clergy sexual abuse. >> reporter: the pastor was not available for comment nor did anyone come to the door. our hearts go out to the people in this and we're just doing our best to take care of the people who attend the church. as for kimberly and her husband, chris, they're still together working on their relationship. novato, abc7 news. san francisco mayor sent a scathing letter to the department of transportation today placing the problems at the feet of top officials. the letter outlined dissatisfaction with a number of

issues starting with service delays related to the twin peeks tunnel project and poor vetting of construction contractors. a worker died at the construction site earlier this month. >> a traffic calming plan in san francisco has been anything but calming to neighbors and now the city is working to fix it. a recently installed traffic circle is at the center of the problem, originally designed to allow traffic to flow along mccallister without stopping, as you say. neighbors say it was so confusing driers spent most of the time honking or yelling at each other and pedestrians and her young daughter say the cars were a nightmare. >> cars were flying through and honking horns and scary. cars were coming at you and didn't know what to do. especially with a toddler it was hard to cross the street. it was scary. >> the city has since made the

intersection a four-way stop again. officials tell abc7 news they're working with neighbors on a more permanent solution. asking people to stop slushing their contact lenses. they found about 20% of contact lensers flush their used lenses down the toilet. that means as much as 23 tons of plastics end up in the ocean each year. the study says consumers should instead discard them in the trash. netflix is making a big promise to its customers. >> michael finney is here. >> no commercials. netflix says it is not planning to add commercials. some users last week spotted videos playing between episodes of shows and kicked off speculation netflix would soon add ads. it said it was testing promotions for other shows and movies.

promotions, not commercials. netflix points out there will always be a skip button. did you know the way you type on a phone screen or keyboard on your computer can be as unique as your fingerprints or facial features? it's true. called behavioral biometrics. the "new york times" reporting banks and retailers are tracking how you type, slap and track to prevent fraud. they will use your online movements to prevent suspicious transactions. in fact, how you sign on can soon be used as a password to allow entry into the sites. americans are eating out a lot. it went up 25%. the biggest on record. people are indeed eating out more, however, some of the increased spending is due to large restaurants upping their
