girls. 3-year-old celeste and 4-year-old bella. he says he witnessed her actively strangling one of their daughters on a baby monitor while the other lay sprawled out on her bed already blue and that prompted him in a fit of rage to then strangle her. it also reveals he was actively involved in an affair with a co-worker after denying it to police. he says that morning he and his wife had a discussion about separation. >> he wasn't being the loving chris that he normally was. >> reporter: nicole atkinson said he was acting strange lately and was the last person to see shanann alive after a business trip. >> when we go on trips like this shanann blows my phone up the next day and i didn't get that early morning text. >> reporter: when she learned the 34-year-old mother also missed a doctor's appointment, she alerted chris and then called police. >> he kept saying he didn't know

citizenship questions. we turn now to the russia investigation. in a new interview president trump says he's worried that sitting down with mueller could be a perjury trap and making a new claim he could run the mueller investigation himself if he wanted to. this all comes as we learn that the top lawyer in the white house has now become an inside source for mueller. a abc's arlette saenz has details. >> reporter: good morning. in that reuters interview president trump says the white house is a smooth running machine except when comes to the russia investigation and asserts he has the power to intervene at any time. after months of saying he'd like to talk with robert mueller -- >> i would love to speak. nobody wants to speak more than me. >> reporter: -- president trump is revealing his concern saying it could be a perjury trap telling reuters he is worried mueller could pit his statements against those of others who have testified like former fbi

director james comey. he says even if i am telling the truth, that makes me a liar, that's no good. he also declared he could run the russia investigation if he wanted to saying i can go in and i could do whatever. i could run it if i want but i decided to stay out. he added i'm totally allowed to be involved if i wanted to be. so far i haven't chosen to be involved. i'll stay out and the president with a new attack tweeting mueller is disgraced and discredited calling his team a group of thugs. this comes after reports that a top white house lawyer has become a key witness for the special counsel. >> was it a mistake to have you speak without limits to special counsel mueller? >> reporter: white house counsel don mcgahn not responding to questions about his talks with investigators. "the new york times" reported mcgahn met with mueller's team at least three times for a total of 30 hours. more than any white house staffer interviewed.

we're back with video of a small plane falling out of the sky over phoenix. the pilot and passenger were killed when this home built plane crashed into an intersection. at least two cars were hit. no word yet on exactly what caused the crash. russian hackers now reportedly targeting conservative groups in the united states who oppose president trump. "the new york times" reports microsoft has uncovered hackers

with ties to the russian government creating fake webs e websites posing as the hudson institute and the international republican institute. the report says the hackers have targeted conservative think tanks that are pushing for continued sanctions against moscow. michigan's top public health official will stand trial for manslaught manslaughter for two deaths. nick lyon waited too long to alert the public. two men died from the disease caused by the city of flint switching its drinking water source in 2014. they say he knew of the outbreak but waited a year to inform the public. he denies any wrongdoing. the epa is releasing a plan to roll back restrictions on coal fired power plants imposed by the obama administration. it would allow states to relax pollution rules for power plants that need upgrades. the plan could set up a lengthy court battle. drinking milk at breakfast

how about the morning commute? >> hey, good morning. we have one early trouble spot in the concord area. southbound 680, a little closer to pacheco. we have a solo vehicle crash. emergency crews are there and they're taking away the right lane. hopefully they'll have that cleared before anything gets slowed down in that area. the bay bridge commute, no delays coming through the toll plaza and the rest of the way into san francisco looking great. we'll check on drive times up next. >> san francisco's muni director could face a tough performance review after being criticized by the mayor. mayor london breed blasted the agency over a number of issues. it expressed disappointment with the service delays tied to the twin peeks tunnel project and vetting of contractors. a worker died add a construction site earlier this month. b.a.r.t. is conducting a study to see what it would take to replace the current fare gates.
