a body found in rural iowa is feared to be that of missing college student mollie tibbetts. we're following the latest information on that discovery and talking to those who knew the tibbetts family from their time in the east bay. good morning. thanks for joining us. chris aziz will be in later today. we have team coverage. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield talked with friends of the family. we'll start with elizabeth hur who is following the investigation from washington. >> reporter: officials in iowa

say they'll hold a press conference later today and will share a significant amount of information at that time. for now they're only confirming it is in connection with the mollie tibbetts investigation. a tireless search for a missing college student in iowa potentially coming to a tragic end with the discovery of a body. authorities for now only confirming a body was located and say they're working to make a positive id. mollie tibbetts, the 20-year-old university of iowa student last seen going for a run in brooklyn, iowa on july 17. when she didn't show up for work, her co-workers reported her missing. at the time she was living with her boyfriend. police say he was not a suspect. >> try to put yourself in our shoes. what if somebody has taken someone you love so much and just had the courage to come forward. >> we're all in this together. >>orks p remained o bringlick

tight-lipped about the investigation while family, friends and strangers searched desperate desperately, searching for her safe return. >> the reward in this case broke local records, reaching nearly $400,000. today when reached for comment, mollie's father told abc news, no comment. i'm elizabeth hur, abc 7 news. mollie tibbetts went to school and services with her family at corpus christi church in piedmont. that's where we find abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield. >> reporter: good morning. this was the family's church when the family lived here. the principal of the school here tels us she started the morning off with an assembly and told the kids the news she had heard about mollie. those who knew mollie and her family said they were really hoping she was going to turn out to be okay. >> our whole family -- we're

heartbroken. we're really heartbroken, and so heartbroken for the family. >> linda saffer had to tell her college aged daughter libby that her childhood friend mollie was presumed dead. she just found a picture ovf th girls from first communiocommun. >> it's every parent's nightmare and just so sad. it's so wrong. she had so much to give. >> mollie tibbetts started kindergarten in oakland and met life life friends at car pus christy catholic church. ann woods has been in frequent contact with mollie's mom since her disappearance. this morning, she couldn't believe the news. >> having it sink in is just so unbelievable and crazily surreal. ann said the last time she spoke

any minute. it's not clear if co-n is cooperating with prosecutors. new at 11:00, authorities released the booking photo after a sideshow on the upper deck of the bay bridge on sunday morning. 21-year-old gable yell moya was arrested on exhibition of scene. this is the scene before 11:00 a.m. at least three white cars doing doughnuts on the upper deck. it caused a backup that lasted for about an hour. mora's car broke down. his car was also impounded for 30 days. body camera video obtained by abc 7 news shows the alameda county sheriff's office may have illegally recorded at least one confidential conversation between a juvenile suspect and his attorney. >> i've got to bring the public defender back first. >> do you record that or no? >> it's not admissible, but i

record it. what if he decides to molest him in there? >> the person in the video with a body cam with a sheriff's sergeant. he indiana aets that recording privileged conversation may be standard practice. secretly recording a conversation between a person in custody and a person's attorney is a felony under california law. the alameda county sheriff's office issued a statement that says we are very aware of the incident and are doing an internal review of all incidents at our' den township substation. to the update on the mendocino complex and car are carr fires. it appears crews are losing ground on the ranch fire, the larger of the two fires that make up the mendocino complex fires. containment went down from 74% to 67%. the ranch fire has now burned more than 355,000 acres. the river fire is 100% contained. it has burned nearly 49,000

acres. this map shows the new numbers of the carr fire in shasta and trinity counties. it's 90% contained, burned nearly 230,000 acres. as the fight continues weat. that should be good news, mike. >> absolutely. cooler weather and the breezes won't pick up too much. there's so much dry vegetation in the mendocino national forest, that's why it's been building to the north. the winds will blow from southwest to northeast across that area. right now over the river fire they're south. and over the ranch they're fairly calm. temperatures 71 and 63. that's very conducive to the firefighters there. high temperatures will hang from the upper 80s to near 90 degrees, even cooling off a little bit by monday. it doesn't look like it will get too breezy the next several days. some of the fastest breezes will be today. notice they're pushing all the smoke away from us as they blow to the southwest to northeast. during the overnight hours they

new this morning, a man who authorities believe is the last-known nazi war criminal living in the u.s. has been arrested and deported to germany. president trump ordered agents to remove 95-year-old man from his home in queens, new york. justice department officials say he was an armed guard at a death camp in poland and lied to u.s. immigration officials when he came here in 1949. he said he was a farm worker. he's denied being a nazi collaborator. happening today, president trump poised to roll back regulations on coal-fired power emissions. the clean power plant was the centerpiece of president obama's efforts to slow goble warming. now the trump administration is

preparing a new plan to give states broad authority to determine how to restrict carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions. this is according to the associated press. the new plan will let states relax pollution rules for power plants that need upgrades. new developments this morning, the kremlin is denying reports that russia is targeting november's midterm elections with cyberattacks. this follows microsoft saying it stopped russian hackers last week. "the new york times" reports a russian group known as fancy bear was involved. that's the same organization suspected of hacking into the democratic national committee in 2016. this time it looks like fancy bear went after republican senate candidates and at least two conservative groups. new this morning, u.s. states are spendig hundreds of millions of dollars to ramp up cyber security ahead of the midterm elections. california is the biggest recipient of the $380 million authorized by congress to combat hackers looking to disrupt the u.s. midterm elections.

happening right now, prosecutors from throughout the state are meeting in orange county this morning to provide an update on the golden state killer case. here is an update. we just learned that joseph james dee anglo will be prosecuted in sacramento county. that's where he's currently being held. das from six california counties are banning together for one trial. this will encompass 13 counts of

brentwood. that's the exception. and that's where we've seeing a little sunshine. the rest of us in the low to mid 60s. you may need a light jacket if you're heading out for lunch over the next hour or so. in emeryville, you can see how stubborn the clouds are. a little sunshine during the afternoon hours, especially inland. it will be harder around the bay and the coast. clouds will return to all neighborhoods tonight. i don't think the atmosphere is going to be quite as juiced tomorrow morning as it was this morning. had to use the windshield wipers several times and they weren't happy, kind of bounced across the windshield. might be time to change those. we're stuck in a bowl of cool air coming straight down from canada. it's also bringing all that smoke from the fires in canada and depositing it mainly in washington, oregon and idaho and the norther part of our state. it's not quite making it down to us. it's also venting our smoke away from us. in that respect the clean air is going to hang around.

look at the temperatures today. barely 80s around morganville, livermore, antioch, fairfield. 90s in ukiah. everybody else in the 70s. richmond and oakland mid 60s there. a's fans, how about that? first place. what a march this team is making. they never give up. 7:05 first pitch, 61 tonight as they try to push the rangers down farther away from us. 59 degrees. will need something to stay warm at the coliseum. had drizzle this morning. you can see it smeared across the golden gate camera here. let's talk about what's going to happen the next 12 hours. temperatures will try to jump into the 70s inland, but then quickly back in the 60s by 8:00 and down into the 50s by midnight. we'll hold steady as the return from 51 in cloverdale. some of us will need the
