uc berkeley scientists are gathering information on the smoke. leslie brinkly joins us live now with more on the story. the smoke is clearing up, you can feel the air. look at the horizon from the berkeley hills and you might wonder where am i? it is a whiteout, or a smokeout, if you try really try, you can make out al ka traz and the g golden gate bridge. >> i have been here before and i know it is and sad.

santa clara sheriff's deputies are looking for someone that attacked an elderly woman in her home. deputies were called yesterday morning, they say an 83-year-old woman confronted three men that entered her house. she was treated for nonlife threatening injuries. the sheriff's office says they're following up on a number of leads. >> what would you do for love? one woman allegedly posed as a sheriff's deputy to get a boyfriend out of jail. nicholas lowe is shown walking out of jail like a free man. they were going to be acceptability to southern california where they are wanted for identity theft and other crimes, she bonded out and e-mailed a forged release document for her the swral, sjail. she was claiming to be a

that these sicientists will change that. the chemicals are sold to companies that use them to make a wide range of products from padded jackets to perfume. there is more plastic entering the waste stream. >> a lot of packagers are movering away from glass and card board and moving to plastic that is cheaper. we're seeing an increase. >> they will partner with bio selection. the two scientists that co-founded bio selection are both 24 and they started working on the concept as high school students. the process they developed not only helps to solve what to do with certain plastics, but also create a new source of chemicals that would require petroleum to make. they plan to locate labs on
